The meats aren't what makes Lou's sandwiches on par with the likes of Ike's or Little Lucca's though, it's the sauces. The jalapeño spread along with Lou's patented secret sauce are among items that humankind must preserve at all costs, whatever it takes. Sensational sandwiches. My husband got the LLB and I got the Kick'n RB. We opted for the sourdough rolls instead of the Dutch crunch. I don't understand people complaining about the service. The person taking the orders was quick and efficient. The crew making the sandwiches were kicking out a serious amount of food in short order. It took about 15 minutes to get our sandwiches but in that time they made well over 25 sandwiches out of a very small space. If it takes a while to get your order it's because they have many more in front of yours. These guys don't have time to make small talk. Food = Delicious Service/Waiting = Rough I had the Roma's Special sandwich and it was amazing. Order it on the dutch crunch for sure. The bread is amazing, crunchy on the outside and soft/fluffy on the inside. Whatever sauce and aioli they put on it really makes the sandwich. The meat was delicious and flavorful and all of the produce was crisp and fresh. The location on 15th and Geary is logistically flawed for sure. I would highly recommend calling ahead or ordering online to avoid the wait. I waited 20 minutes for a sandwich, after ordering. That's really the only reason why I didn't give them 5 stars. I will certainly be going back, probably a lot since I live down the block. But next time I'll call ahead or order online with my order. read more

VEGGIE SANDWICH: The ingredients in this sandwich are super fresh & you can really tell in every bite! I got mines without cheese & with the jalapeño sauce on the side because I didn't want it to be over powering. I'm so glad I did because being able to add the jalapeño sauce on every bite was amazing. One sandwich is huge so I suggest you share it if you're not too hungry, but if you are then this will definitely fill you up! Its always packed. I tried the ultimate club and the risky business. The risky business is delicious but it was a bit to peppery for me. And the ultimate club was amazing. The price is within reasonable range and the sandwiches are just as delicious and fulfilling. Recommend their AMI-CADO ($8.25) and their HOT PASTRAMI ($8.25) on dutch rolls. Great combination of marinated meat and fresh vegetables, with a healthy amount of their Special Lou's Sauce! Good size for 2 servings and perfect choice for an outdoor lunch at the park or a hiking trip. Parking is limited but this place is easily accessible by bus. Depends on what time I come but I typically get the same sandwiches; The Original Breakfast Sandwich and the LLB. Both of them are some of the best sandwiches they have to offer. This trip ordered the Original Breakfast Sandwich with double hash brown & double bacon. I tend to double meat every thing because it's better that way. Located right by the 38 bus stop on Geary! Way better than subway. What stood out to me was their portions and how hefty their sandwiches are. Line can get pretty long especially if you come by during lunch time. I usually go for Dutch Crunch with Salami and Pastrami sauce and their Garlic Sauce is the BEST! So much flavor in a sandwich. Their portions are massive and they do cut the sandwich in half for you. I usually eat one half when I buy it and save the other half for dinner. Nice and friendly staff. They have a good amount of seating which is covenient if you want to dine in. Prices are reasonable and good especially for how much food you are getting. This little cafe has the best chowder and sandwiches in San Francisco. Possibly the Bay Area. I had the Risky Business; brisket, crab, pastrami, bacon, pesto, avocado, and all the veggies. The 1st time, i ordered the Roma's club and my friend had the buffalo chicken sandwich. Food: The bread is so fresh, with lots of texture. Their "secret sauce" has just the right kick of spice to it that complements the other parts of the sandwich. They include a generous amount of meat in their sandwiches (other sandwich shops usually skimp). Other ingredients are also fresh and packed so neatly into the crunchy bread! And they always ask at the counter - you have the option of excluding some of the following commonly disliked ingredients : pickle, onions. Price: The sandwiches run on average $8.00/sandwich which may be a little steep. But you definitely get what you pay for ! Wait: They are busier on the weekends especially when everyone's out and about on a sunny SF day because it's perfect to grab a sandwich for a picnic at the beach / park. I've been coming to Lou's for over four years now and through the years it has continued to make sandwiches that make people so happy. I'm eating here right now enjoying their RB Mushroom Sandwich ($7.99). Wonderfully toasted with a generous amount of roast beef--the real kicker to their sandwich is their Special Sauce, a garlic aioli which when combined with their Japalpeño Spread makes for extra good good on the sandwich. I'd highly recommend ordering the RB Mushroom or their Turkey Cranberry Sandwiches; but really, I doubt you can go wrong with any of their sandwiches. Seating is limited and their can be a line to order (it's worth the wait) but pro tip is just call ahead and order for pick up. Lou Ben sandwich $10 I ordered the Lou Ben, following yelp around as I often do to find good eats I came here. This sandwich was good, they have several sandwhiches that have fun names and are creative. The wait was forever and I went past my available lunch time. Seating was minimal so I had to stand and eat and run. Didn't like that to much. The Lou Ben was ok, it was built well and all separated in its groups for a nice looking presentation, the bread was a little dry, I was hoping for more. The meat was good but it's lunch meat so with a sandwich it's all about the final product coming together in 1 bite. This place kind of reminds me of a small Ike's.
