This review is long overdue. My son and I stopped in Lowboy late last year, I think it was around Christmas. We'd arrived next door to Donna's to do a walk in and had a bit of a wait. We decided we'd grab drinks here while we waited. It was a rainy evening and we tucked into a perfect little booth/high-top right outside of the main bar. My son had a beer and I had the whiskey sour off of their HH menu. Service was great and the vibes were immaculate. It's the perfect area of LA, that doesn't feel like LA. The crowd is great and right around 5p you can expect a lot of rollover from people waiting on a table next door, mixed with folks intentionally coming here to hang and grab drinks/food. The menu looked soooooo good. My son wanted to order one of everything, I had to convince him we couldn't since we were in store for a really big dinner next door. This would be such a fun spot for GNO, a first date or 300th date, fam bam time, you name it. It's super chill, the drinks were good and the food looks super satisfying. Now, here's my one and only complaint, and it's a big one: On June 19th at 4:45pm, my husband (who is Black) and I (Afro-Latina) stopped in for a beer and a burger before heading to Chavez Ravine for Black Heritage Night. It was Juneteenth. Unfortunately, the experience we had with the female bartender working at that time was extremely disappointing and upsetting. We were completely ignored for over 10 minutes, while we watched her serve and warmly interact with other guests--especially white guests. When my husband finally had to physically move closer to another couple at the bar just to get her attention, she responded with visible attitude. Not only was she rude throughout the brief interaction, but she also got our order wrong. The whole encounter felt pointed and ironic, especially at a bar that claims to "celebrate" Black History Month. Inclusion doesn't stop in February. It shouldn't be performative. We came in to support your business on a day that holds deep cultural meaning, and we left feeling disrespected and unseen. Do better. read more

I've gone to both Lowboy and Bar Flores numerous times and the female bartender (brunette bob) seemed so agitated that my friend and I were the first to sit at the bar for service. I work in hospitality and I totally understand if you're still doing prep in the beginning of service, but a simple "welcome, anywhere you'd like" or a "I'll be right with you in a moment" would've been helpful instead of being short and stared at for the 'audacity' at sitting at the bar. I really liked Lowboy for a delicious lunch fix when you are craving a good smash-style burger. I tried their Low burger with the gator fries and yum! The burger Patties are thin and lacy and their Low Burger is loaded with sweet grilled onions, red pepper jam, and their delicious "two" thousand island dressing (I guess this is their secret sauce). And it's all encased inside a soft, pillowy potato bun. Got the burger with their gator fries - don't worry, no alligators were harmed in the making of these fries. They are loaded with more thousand island dressing, cheese, and pickles and these are some of the best loaded fries I have had. The fries are shoestring and crisped to perfection and they pair so well with the sauce and toppings. You're going to need a fork and lotsa napkins for this one. I also tried their breakfast burrito which also came with fries inside the burrito itself! Genius. Love that this place is open late! We walked from the Echoplex after a great show. The ambiance is not what I expected, it was so much nicer and had really great vibes plus great music. I was tipsy and wanted a fat meal so I ordered their Bacon Burger which came with a great in house BBQ sauce which is sweet and savory , grilled onions and their amazing bacon. Their fries were pretty damn good too and they aren't shy on the salt. They are closer to shoe string style and we're super fresh. To balance everything, I also ordered their Cesar salad and OMG it was fire!!! Lots of shaved pieces of fresh Parm, chopped fresh Romain and some type bread crumble.
