I come here because the food is choke plenty and the prices are really good for the islands. Quality can be a hit or miss depending on what you order. I've been here twice already. The first time I went with a buddy. Everywhere he goes, he tries to order his favorite dish if they have it. His is pork cutlet with gravy. I ordered the ginger chicken although I really like pork cutlet a lot as well! I was hesitant to order the pork cutlet. The cook and maybe the owner aren't local so I wasn't going to take a chance. They looked to be Chinese who just emigrated. My friend's pork cutlet was on the chewy/hard side. (I confirmed when I went by myself on a second visit and ordered it) I ordered cold ginger chicken this first time and I think mine's looked and tasted better than my buddy's order. Both orders came with mac salad and white rice, normal local food staples. They tasted like they should from my local boy palate. In the area so went in to order shrimp broccoli with cake noodle. Waited awhile and finally order was ready. Tables and eating area clean. Cashier yells out your order. When asked if utensils are in the bag she grouchily snapped "inside." Left and took plate home. The broth with the shrimp and broccoli was tasty but cake noodle was very, very HARD and burnt. It was difficult to eat even when soaked in the broth mixture for awhile. It is usually one of my favorites here but not lately. Although traffic in the area, can be hectic at times, there is ample parking available. It's a clean and bright restaurant with an extensive menu and friendly service. I ordered a Mini Mochiko Chicken, the Sesame Shrimp Toast and a Beef Stew Bowl without rice. I did takeout, but on my next visit, I'll dine in. The food came out just prepared and after getting home, I realized I should have eaten there. The quantity of the Mochiko chicken was huge and the cover for the box did not close. It was still warm, crispy and delicious when I got home.The servings are really generous, I was able to get 2 meals out of the Mini Order. The Shrimp Toast was also delicious and that reheated well later that day for Happy Hour. It is hard to find it on a Menu, so I will definitely be back for that. The beef stew was excellent, tender beef, carrots and potato and more than enough gravy. I paid $30.22 (cash) for 3 meals and Happy Hour pupus. Total Winner! Yesterday was my first visit to this hole in the wall. I must have passed by a dozen times but never took notice of it. I was here to get a hamburger steak plate which was highly recommended by a friend. I also picked up an order of roast pork with gravy. The hamburger steak was very delicious. The roast pork was interesting. It had a prominent smoky flavor which combined with the gravy was off putting. I'd prefer it without the gravy. Decided to check lucky box out due to the Cheap Eats segment. A lot of their mini plates are under $10 but the regular plates are a bit more. The portions were very generous each plate felt heavy. It was all made fresh and hot. You can choose to eat in the restaurant it's open seating or you can choose to take it to go. I got a regular plate and there was enough to eat for another meal as leftovers. It did make me a little thirsty after eating. They do use clover for a rewards program so you can sign up and earn with that. The strawberry lemonade was tasty however it seemseemed to be made of fountain lemonade, cut strawberries, and a calpico which I could make myself. If we were to go back, I would definitely want to try their cake noodle or chow fun the floor of the restaurant is linoleum(?) and felt a bit sticky under my shoes. The AC is very cool. I love their chicken katzu...way better than L&L and any other place that I've been to that has chicken katzu on their menu...even better than that place Island Garden in Waipahu. There was 11 of us... and we were lucky to score 2 large tables (surrounded by a few booths, a couple other small tables, and a row of stools along a counter). Menu was huge (local plate lunch faves and Chinese)... perfect to accommodate whatever each was craving. Food came out timely in take-out containers. Portions are great and food was tasty. Fam thanked me for choosing that new spot to grind. It was 10pm Saturday night, parking lot was packed (surrounded by bars and McDonalds) and restaurant remained busy throughout the night till 11pm closing time. Lucky Box is a new takeout spot located next to the Original Pancake House on the corner Dillingham and Waiakamilo. I like that they serve the entire menu from 7am to 11pm. This morning, we got the wagyu loco moco ($16.99), oxtail soup ($24.99), and shrimp toast ($9.99). The wagyu loco moco was the best of the three. I think there is a difference. The beef patty was tastier and softer than usual. But, it was $3 more. Some people may not think it's worth it. The oxtail soup was pricey, as it is at most places, but the meat was tender, and the broth was flavorful. It did have mushrooms, peanuts, and won bok, but no green onions or cilantro. It looked a little sad. The most disappointing dish was the shrimp toast. I wanted to like it so much. This one was tasteless and greasy. The sweet chili sauce that comes with it was delicious, though. I see why they give you a generous helping. You need it to get through the big 6 piece order. Again, I like that you can get the entire menu at 7 am, and that there's free parking. But, I don't know if I will go again. read more

Had lunch at Lucky Box. Ordered the regular garlic chicken plate, cake noodle with beef and broccoli, and shrimp toast. The garlic chicken had good flavor. However, was kind of dry. Tasted similar to the place that was at this spot before, Waikamilo drive inn, but they had bigger pieces of chicken, so maybe helped keep it from drying out as fast. The cake noodle was pretty standard to any cake noodle place. It's not the best, but it's definitely not the worst. They put the gravy/sauce, which was nice to keep the noodles from getting soggy. The shrimp toast was a little hard but unique as this is not a dish you can commonly find in Hawaii. Came with a sweet chili sauce, which made it better. I would say the best thing about this place is the value. Large portions of food. Most plate lunches are under $15 for the regular. read more

The diner is located in the Waiamilo Shopping Plaza. It seems that it opened not too long ago. The inside is pretty clean with maybe about 3 or 4 booths and a few 4 top tables and two 2 tops and a bit counter seatings. The lady that took our order and rang us up was very friendly and welcoming. We ordered a mini pork katsu cutlet . It had one scoop rice, one scoop Mac Salad, and pork katsu with gravy. The Mac salad was not too mayo-y so it was to my liking. The gravy was a bit salty but it had flavor. The Pork Katsu was a bit on the dry side so I wish there was a bit more gravy. The Beef Stew Bowl...was a bit sweet? Maybe tasted more tomato-ee. Not too much sauce vs the amount of rice given. It had beef that was not fork tender, big chunks of carrots, also not fork tender, and potato, which was the only thing that was fork tender. Fish and chips...2 large thin pieces of fish. I think it was deep fried? The breading had a crunch to it. The fish itself tasted a bit sweet but not too much flavor on its own. It needs the tartar sauce. They give loads of fries though. We tried this place for the very first time. We had the chicken Katsu, hamburger steak and the beef curry. They all were okay as none stood out. It wasn't horrible, but the chicken Katsu left a strange oily taste in my mouth. I can't put a finger on what it was, but best way to describe it, is a oily (maybe oil needs to be changed more often) taste. The hamburger steak says homemade, but it was average. Love the food here..location is the old Waiakamilo drive-in.. we got the Fried Chicken Plate that was one of the special plates for $10.99 and the size and thickness of the wing was massive..the flavor had like a slight curry like or coke kind of Asian taste which was bomb and both plate we got got 8 pieces each..my other half couldn't even finish it..I got the Reg BBQ chicken plate and was able to make it all salad with no extra charge and pieces was huge as well..but the Crab Rangoon..I was very pleased..the crab meat I believe was real crab meat..I could taste the guts and glory on the head of the crab which I love love love the most..me and my Ohana will definitely come back here ..super clean..server was sweet and chef was awesome..there was an aunty that ordered her food which she needed a little extra help (she was on a wheelchair) and chef packed her food for her like her request was crazy but he made it possible..even helped her place her plates like 6 of it on her chair..she was so happy and please..made our stay very happy to be there read more

This Lucky Box Restaurant has the worst cashier manners ever! I called in for my $30+ worth of foods, the cashier was extremely rude to me! She was rude over the phone, and she spoke with heavy accent. When I entered the restaurant to pick up my food, I found no clients inside! I only saw a rude Korean looking Chinese older woman! She avoided looking at me for 2 minutes! Then she started to complain so loud about this and that! When I called in to place my orders, she never asked me if I preferred rice, tossed salad or macaroni salad! She was supposed to ask me over the phone! I believe she hates to work there! Place just opened. The menu is vast, if not ambitious. Stopped in on the way to the airport. The gf ordered shrimp and broccoli stir fry. She reports that it wasn't bad. It was similar to what she might make at home. I ordered the regular size lemon chicken, which comes with two scoops of rice and one of mac salad. After a little confusion between this and regular fried chicken, they gave me a small cup of lemon sauce, which I used for dipping. As far as fried chicken goes, yeah, not bad. I will say this... if you are sharing or are looking to have left overs for a second meal, go with the regular size. If you are headed to the airport like I was, go with the mini. The regular had a *lot* of food. Neither of us got anywhere near finished with our food. Prices were not outrageous, which is why I didn't think about the portion size when ordering. read more
