Since the beginning of the pandemic my dad has been harping about the pancit malabon here. He wanted it for his birthday while they were closed and because it's a bit far from home I haven't been had the chance to try it until recently. It's. So. GOOD. For those that don't know, pancit malabon is a drier form of pancit palabok. Think dry chow fun vs. wet chow fun. The balance of flavor was amazing and reminded me of my mom's cooking. In every bite there's a seafood, garlic and lemon flavor. They're also generous with the egg and shrimp and portion. While I was there I also picked up turon (banana and jackfruit egg roll, huge portions of banana and jack fruit), veggie lumpia (which is served with this amazing garlic vinegar that has the right mix of sour, salt and but of sweetness), chicken asado siopao (huge meat portion, great flavor), ube macapuno cupcake and buko pandan cupcake (both are buttery and execute the flavor well). Everything I tried was amazing! I'm super critical about flipino food, as is my dad and he had not one complaint about the food. If anything he was giddy to have something he remembered from a party over a year ago! Lastly, they are practicing social distancing so be patient with the line. The girl was super patient and friendly when I went, so I'm not sure about what other reviewers have stated about the service. THE UBE HALAYA IS A MUST TRY! Ang sobrang sarap! The place is really clean and I love the display of all the baked goods and everything! I was just in Cerritos with my family and we were craving dessert after eating at Pinoy Pinay, so we made a stop at Luisa & Son for the bibingka. However, they ran out of bibingka since it was already 30 minutes before closing on a Friday night. The worker told us that bibingka is usually sold on the weekends (Saturday and Sunday) though! So instead, we got the Ube Halaya and the buko pandan cupcakes. 1. Ube Halaya: best to eat when chilled, so make sure to keep it inside the refrigerator. When I took my first bite, it was mouthwatering good. The texture was so creamy and sticky at the same time. If they had an ube flavor at Cold Stone Creamery, this would be it. It was not too sweet as well. It was very difficult to put down. The total came out to $7.99 for one of these. 2. Buko pandan (coconut) cupcake: make sure to keep in the fridge as well to let it last longer. And the best way to prepare it is by warming it in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds. Then, you are enjoying the goodness of the buko pandan. It's a really nice dessert or snack! They have a wide variety of cupcakes on the shelf as well! Definitely will be back soon! read more

Yelp challenge 2015 266/365 Polvorons, empanadas, ensaymada....all my favorite Filipino treats within this tiny, hole in the ground bakery in a Artesia stripmall. I think I like to eat this stuff more than my husband. He first fed me these treats in the year 2000, when we visited Manila. Huge shoutout to Joseph A and Maggie C for recommending this chain bakery. Empanadas are hard to come by, especially since my South St favorites closed down a while back. The chicken empanadas here are super small, about 2 Bites and your done. That is why they are so cheap $8.00 and some change for a dozen. If you purchase less than a dozen they charge you for a box. I picked up about a dozen Polvorons @ .45 each, a dozen, plus 1 empanadas and some regular ensaymadas for under $20.00. Inhaled an empanada before I even left the parking lot. The empanada was good minus the raisins. Service here is not as friendly as other places I've been to. Its strictly business here. Zero small talk. If you wanna chat, they don't want to chat with you. I had to order my dozen empanadas twice. The first employee never boxed them for me. She was busy gossiping to the other girl. I asked for peanut ampoa / lowua, but they had no idea what I was talking about. Nobody ever knows what Im talking about. They had a incubator here, which made me sad. #745 read more

Ensenada? No, no, no! Not the city in Baja California!! It's ensaymada.. Ensaymada is a sweet bread pastry influenced by the Spaniards who came to the Philippines. There are many variations of ensaymada amongst Filipino bakeries but Luisa & Sons does it well. Ensaymada is a sweet bread with butter and sugar on top. A savory version has shredded cheese on top. Sweeter versions include ube (similar to taro), macapuno (variety of coconut sweetened), buko pandan (buko - young coconut, pandan - Asian herb). Luisa & Sons also sells other Filipino desserts and goods. From bibingka (rice cake), cassava cake, egg pie (heard it's good), hopia (bean pastry), empanada, cheese rolls (knock off from Porto's), turon (plantain egg roll) to name a few things. I bought one of each type of ensaymada ($1.59 -$1.79/ea) and they were most definitely delicious once warmed up. I also bought hopia ($0.60/ea) and yema (milk candy) ($0.45/ea). The monggo hopia isn't good at all. It's dry inside and the exterior is way too starchy. Jenny's Bakery in Carson makes a great version. I didn't like the bibingka here at all. It was too dense and not as fluffy as Tony's in Carson. On the other hand, the buko pandan yema is delish. Service here is non-existent and not helpful. This is something common amongst a lot of mom and pop Asian restaurants and bakeries who are truly cooks and bakers but not the best at marketing business. You can tell the difference if you've been to Red Ribbon or Jollibee which are corporate. The employees are polite and helpful, however, pricing is significantly higher by quite a bit. Pick your poison! Higher prices or non-existent service. Nonetheless, the ensaymada is good here! read more

I bought every ube product they had from breads to candies, and prices were surprisingly lower than I expected. The taste was the perfect consistency & sweetness together for this popular purple yam. I haven't been to this establishment, but I've been given goodies from this place. I'm EXTREMELY picky when it comes to siopao. I don't care for the hard boiled egg and its flavor mixed in with my meats. I have to say, however, the Asado Siopao is bomb here. Probably not the best I've had but pretty damn close. It doesn't come with the egg inside, the pork is tender and very well seasoned, and the flavor is super rich. The only con I have is the amount of fat it contains. Sometimes I'm chewing on big ass pieces of fat and I have to spit it out. EW..... They come with extra sauce, if you like your siopao extra juicy. I didn't care for the pollo version so sticking to the asado. Will def make an effort to stop in to try their other goodies next time I'm in the area. read more

Halo halo is delicious. Came here after a recommendation from a friendly stranger. They offer lumpia, fried treats, and baked goods. I had ordered here for 30 pieces of chicken empanada, 15 yellow hopia, and 15 red bean hopia. I had originally tried to order 15 Ube hopia and 15 pork hopia, but they ran out of both. The staff was quite rude over the phone, but it there defense, it seemed quite busy. I got to the store for pick up and they were not too busy and had only 1 or 2 customers, and they were still a bit rude. The feel of the staff wasn't too inviting or welcoming, and I had noticed that some of the hopia that supposedly ran out were available and were still there. I did enjoy the chicken empanadas, but they were a bit too bready and not too special in my taste. The store is quite small, the parking lot is almost always full and tight parking. I do recommend the leche flan and the ube paste dish. Try to call ahead and early if you want to get the items you want in amount that you want. read more

BEST FILIPINO BAKERY IN TOWN!! Luisa & Son is my family's go-to filipino bakery because all the sweets they offer are very delicious! Some of our favorite pastries here are the Cheese Tart, Hopia, Ensaymada, Egg Pie, Buko Pie, Yema Cake, and Ube Yema Cake. I would recommend the Ube Yema Cake because it's definitely the best Ube Cake I've had since the cake has generous amount of Ube Halaya. The Ube Yema Cake is their new offering and it definitely sells out really quick. If you want to try this cake, come here on a Sunday morning. Other than baked goods, this shop also sells various Filipino foods. I've only had their Okoy, Camaron, and Kikiam, which were all pretty good. This has a Valerio vibe (for this who are familiar with Valerio bakery). I thought it would be more like Red Ribbon bakeshop but it's very small. The best ones are the cheese bars. The ube hopia was just ok but the filling is ample. The other good thing we bought were the chicken empanada although Red Ribbon has the best in my opinion. My father buys me bread and canned cheese here because its cheaper than Red Ribbon. My mother likes the turon. The cashier is so pale. I've been living in the area for years and this is still my family's go to Filipino bakery! I keep coming back for their ensaymada (especially the ube ensaymada), porn asado siopao (comes in a container of 4), and their polvoron. Everything always taste so good and fresh. I'm breaking it down one by one. Chicken empanada is 4 out of 5. Chicken can be on dry side at times and small portion the empanada is too small I feel like it's getting smaller each time I visit. Putobongbong - comes with butter and rolled in coconut shavings but comes with brown sugar? Thought it was white sugar ?... anyway this isn't the REAL stuff it's basically tapioca rolled. Not cooked the way it should be with the coals and banana leaves so... don't spend your money on this it's imitation however I know it's hard to make the real stuff though so if it's it, don't try it. 1.5 stars out of 5. Siopao: chicken asado taste best out of all of them I'm not big fan of any of the bola bola flavor it taste as if the meat isn't cooked all the way sometimes. However the sauce it comes with is great! The bread was a bit on the dry side also, not moist and sweet like when I first bought it, I was disappointed since I've purchased from here four times already, 3 out of 5 stars. Imbutido taste good but my mom's is better but the portion is right price... could be lower. 4 out of 5. Yema: pretty good when it comes to their candy making skills, actually it's 5 out of 5. This place is a classic shop that looks like how it would in the Philippines. I love the authentic feeling you get when shopping in here. The Ube deserts and bakery is my favorite. The Ube bread barely has enough Ube in it but still delicious. The prices are more than fair and they have cakes, wrapped candy, chips, and muffins. There is AC but no bathroom. There are usually 2 cashiers so it can be a wait if there are more than 5 people in line but it's worth it! read more

I could've easily gave this bakery a 4 star experience for their good selection of Filipino desserts and pastries that tastes really good. But the lady who worked the counter that day wasn't welcoming and it kinda spoiled it all. Anyways, I made the drive here the first time and ended up buying just one thing, and that was their "Ube Halaya" ($6.99). It's buttery, milky and sweet, all mushed into this thick cold dessert served in a tray. All I can say this mashed up, purple yam was pure goodness and I had to comeback for more. Second time around, I was in for not only one thing but to try out their pastries. So I grabbed a hand basket and picked out: Pork Bola Bola and Pork Asado Siopaos, Buko Pandan and Ube Cupcakes, Chicken Embutido. From their hot oven I got a Mini Chicken Empanada, Red Bean and Ube Hopia for .70 cents each. I liked the "Buko Pandan Cupcake" this tasted good because it was soft and buttery, you can taste the coconut textures inside as well. You'll find the prices here pretty cheap, especially the pastries but the cold desserts and frozen goods can be on the high side. Now for the experience inside. First off, this place was blastin' Christmas music and its only September. There's a speaker system hanging in the front of the shop and the music was loud when standing by the bakery racks near the entrance. They probably want to haunt you with early holiday music to ruin your shopping experience and turn you away quickly, like an old Filipino granny chasing you out with her flip flops on her hand. Once I got inside I wasn't greeted, there was a lady on the counter and there was a guy working in the back. I was looking for desserts in the fridge, the guy worker walked next to me and didn't acknowledge. As I was ready to checkout, the place started to have a little bit more customers, like four people inside. While I stood in line, a customer asked the cashier lady if they had something available, she gave him an unpleasant answer, (so, I guess that was a no). When it was my turn to get rung up, the lady seemed rushed, I was standing striking distance from her and she was like "next customer!" I'm freakin' standing right in front of the counter. I asked the her if she had some "newly made Casava Cake" She said "there's some in the fridge" then I told the her "yes, but the ones inside the fridge are stamped old and outdated". Then she said no. The lady didn't even bother to go the back and check (how lazy) and I still got that "GTFO" vibe here. When the lady started bagging my stuff, she had that annoyed look on her face when she couldn't spread open the plastic bag properly. Lastly, when the lady closed out the transaction, she was sloppy putting my debit card on the counter and didn't even say thank you. I just grabbed my shopping bag and left pissed. When I got home I realized I wasn't handed a receipt. Other than Luisa & Son's good bakery offerings, they need to put the proper people in place and model good behaviors. read more

Yes, I've tasted baked goods as well as their hot foods from L&S throughout the years mainly from private parties. Whether it's their bibingka, palabok, ensymeda, polvoron, ube halaya, etc...I've always liked everything that's come from here. No wow factor as you walk in except for this odd looking statue of what appears to be an Indigenous looking woman made from cheap looking thin like aluminum metal, with chicken legs. Yes. Chicken legs. I am 100% Pinay and I haven't a clue where the connection is. But anyway. So no decor to impress you. Plain ole grey walls. Naked to the eye. But the smell of a bakery certainly warrant your wandering eye to explore the small place. And exploring I did! If given a choice, I can probably eat a dozen of each in one sitting. Pan de sal - Yes. Everything else - No. No: Their snacks and pastries are average. Bean hopia was too crumbly and on the dry side. Ube hopia was too sweet. Polvoron was too buttery and borderline being a shortbread cookie. Maybe: Empanadas were stereotypical empanadas. It's exactly what you expect when you think of an empanada. Turon is done right. Yes: Pan de sal is really good when it's a fresh batch. Comparable to the ones in the Philippines or the fresh baked ones from Valerio's. So at least they have that going for them. read more

The best siopao in town! AKA Filipino pork buns. Oooooh yeah! :) Whenever I'm in the area, it is A-MUST to stop by and hoard on as many siopaos as I can get my hands on. PORK ASADO SIOPAO---Braised pork in sweet marinade filling. You'll come across chunks of sticky meat as you bite into this thing and perhaps a piece or two of pork belly fat. Scrumptious! There is also a chicken version of this but I definitely recommend the pork. PORK BOLA-BOLA SIOPAO--Meatballs if you will. This is one of the best of its kind. Stuffed with sweet Chinese sausage and salted egg together with ground meat and some spices, this bun is as flavorful as it can get. Sweet and salty, yes, that's my middle name :) A favorite! Also comes in chicken and yet again, I highly recommend the pork. ---Tip---These are sold frozen so you can buy as many of these suckers without fear of spoilage. I just store them in the freezer and thaw overnight in the fridge if I plan to eat one the next day. To reheat, remove from packaging and wrap with wet paper towel to keep the moisture of the bun, then microwave for about a minute. Make sure to remove the paper on the bottom before eating. Enjoy! P.S. For more flavor, ask for extra sauce to-go. These are already pre-packed in small plastic containers and are free of charge. Pour some on the siopao before digging in but it really isn't necessary if you ask me. The buns are already packed with so much greatness inside and out! P.P.S. This bakeshop also specializes in ENSAYMADA (a pastry originating from Mallorca, Spain, that the Filipinos have adopted under the Spanish colony ages ago). Made out of flour, eggs, sugar, and lard, this is typically eaten as merienda (afternoon snack). It comes in many variations ranging from cheese, ube, ube macapuno, plain, etc. All of which are delicately flavored, fluffy, and quite filling. You have to try this!
