I stopped here for a quick dinner on a Saturday night. My husband and I arrived and there was one other couple enjoying a meal. During our stay we saw multiple people come in and out for carry out. We started off with an order of shrimp spring rolls. The spring rolls were tasty and definitely recommend using the peanut dipping sauce for some added flavor. My husband and I both ordered our own green curry. I ordered my green curry super Thai spicy but was a little disappointed as my husband's curry was about the same amount of spiciness. I asked for additional spices after my first bite and our waiter delivered. I added the spices to my curry to achieve a more optimal spice level for my liking. I am so confused by all of the great reviews this restaurant is getting! Maybe I ordered wrong or something but I like to think I am very proficient in ordering Thai food and I felt like this place was lacking all of the uniquely Thai flavors I look for. We started with a Tuna Lettuce wrap appetizer. I'm positive the Tuna came from a can and it came with 4 rather shady stalks of lettuce to make the "wraps".. now clearly you couldn't wrap the lettuce around the Tuna due to the fact that it was just romaine stalks but hey .. they can call it lettuce wraps if they want. Whatever they seasoned the tuna salad with was bland and just didn't taste anything like any Thai food I've ever had. It tasted like poorly made tuna salad with some carrots and onions and peanuts mixed in. My fiance ordered the Pad Thai w/Chicken.. it came out looking very pretty but I felt like the flavor was a bit short on the Tamarind paste side of things. The Pad Thai also looked pale.. I suspect that was due to the fact that they used so little Tamarind paste in the recipe. The sour flavor that is provided by Tamarind Past is essential to a good Pad Thai.. I feel like they toned that down to make it a more easily acceptable dish for folks who don't exactly know what to look for in Thai Food. I ordered the Pad Gra Pow which I assumed was a play on Pad Ka-Proa.. boy did I call that wrong. Instead of getting stir fried Thai basil and meat.. I got a Chinese stir fry. Yep .. a straight up Chinese stir fry served with plain old white rice. It had bell peppers and onions galore all the stuff you find in your typical Chinese stir fry.. It even had a generic brown sauce that tasted like Chinese delivery. If there was Thai Basil in this dish I sure as hell couldn't taste it. The Thai Tea was good but unfortunately the straw was about six inches too short for the glass... the free soup and salad that comes with every lunch meal was probably the most tasty thing I had during my visit. There are some notable options missing from this Thai restaurant ... there was no Tiger Cry option .. no Tiger Cry sauce .. in fact Fish Sauce and Lime Juice and Tamarind paste which I would consider the key defining flavors in Thai food were missing from everything. There were no meat salads... which is what I am accustomed to ordering at Thai restaurants. I was also disappointed by the lack of fresh herbal flavor that I find present in almost all Thai Food I did taste a small amount of cilantro in the Tuna.. but not much at all. The food here doesn't taste like Thai food, I think the issue is that the food has been overly Americanized to appeal to a broader subset of customers. I am very disappointed and I wont be going back. I hate seeing some place think they can throw some carrots and peanuts on everything and call it Thai food. I would like to say that despite being horribly busy the staff did a great job of waiting on us. I cant fault the service here but I can easily find fault in the food. read more

When we initially arrived here, around 11:30 a.m. on a Sunday, it was mostly empty. I had originally wanted to try Tarka in the same shopping center, but thought Thai might be a little safer considering my stomach wasn't feeling that awesome after the alcohol-soaked wedding shower the evening before. The decor has a sort of Thai-festive theme and conveyed that IM did seemingly put some thought into the layout and wall adornments. The server warmly greeted us with a broad smile and we did let her know we were waiting on one more person. We promptly ordered our drinks and tofu spring rolls and she stopped every so often to check on us. The spring rolls presentation was quite lovely (I uploaded a photo) and the sauce was interesting - salty tamarind based and seemingly sans peanut. Not too bad. However, the Cashew Tofu entree was freaking delicious. I really have no complaints about it - tofu and cashews were plentiful and delicious. It was more than adequate for two people and then for a couple of bites during the long drive back to Houston. Oh yes, the wine pours were ridiculously generous. That pleased me. This would be five stars if not for the ending of our meal. Once we had finished eating and caught up on current events/gossip, and then some - the restaurant had filled up quite a bit. Which translated to being forgotten. All right, the restaurant had significantly filled since then, but we became slightly annoyed with the extended passage of time. The food, pork fried rice and beef glass stir-fried noodles, were very good with large portions. The pricing here is very reasonable ($~12 per dish). The restaurant is decent with ample seating, though nothing fancy. Both dishes were up-to-taste and filled us very well, but we did have to wait over 15 mins to receive the food. The service was great except for 1 mishaps when we were served the wrong noodle dish. We ordered stir-fried egg noodles but were served glass noodles. When we mentioned this to our server, he said he mis-clicked the menu item but he sounded as if he knew he misclicked without informing us and we found out? He offered to re-make it but because we were quite hungry, we decided to try the glass noodles anyways. Big tip here: Visually know how your ordered dish look like so you don't end up eating something you didn't order. read more

Between Subsin's and Madam Mam's and Thai Passion (all in the area), Thai Fresh, and Titaya's up north (excellent), Austin's thai food scene is becoming competitive! I say, bring the pad thai on. The dining room is lovely and tranquil, but less tranquil is a staff member's adorable young daughter, who had the run of the place the night we visited. We ordered rice balls, chicken larb, and pad thai with shrimp. Our rice balls were crisp outside, with a filling of perfectly cooked rice mixed with curry and coconut milk. Dunked into sweet chili sauce, these are satisfying and super tasty. The larb was less salad-like than I hoped. Typically I like to scoop up mouthfuls of larb with pieces of lettuce. This was more of an "eat with utensils and rice" entree than a salad. The chicken was flavorful and fresh, and the chilis plentiful. Not nuclear-blast hot, but spicy for sure. Pad Thai is excellent; a perfectly balanced tangle of noodles, bean sprouts, and shrimp. Sweet and spicy with sour lime notes. The service was polite and unobtrusive. Without asking, a server brought sriracha and red pepper flakes, labeled, in white ceramic containers - a nice touch, but we didn't use them, as the food was spicy enough and didn't need any doctoring. PLEASE NOTE: there is no beer or wine available. We had thai iced tea, which was good - but a beer with our meal would have been great. read more

I thought the atmosphere here was very relaxed and cute. There were even flowers at every table. This restaurant is perfect for a date night. As for the food, I had the Pad Kee Mao with chicken, and it was amazing! The noodles and chicken were very tender and delicious. The sauce for the dish was very flavorful and spicy. The dish came with a variety of ingredients such as mushrooms, bell peppers, and even a little salad. Overall, I had a great dining experience here. IM Thai Cuisine is definitely one of the better Thai restaurants in Austin. Next time, I think I will try one of their renowned curries. read more

My food was bland. I honestly think it's because I got there 30 mins before closing and that could be my fault but that should not be an excuse for overcooked beef and bland noodles. I have no complaints on the jasmine rice as to be completely honest I like toasty, sticky, rice. (No sarcasm, I'm dead serious) Appetizer: fresh shrimp spring rolls - noodles were super thin, good flavor but noodles and sauce is not what I expected. I thought I would get the standard peanut sauce but I got something else but to be clear this sauce was super good. I should have use it for my noodles. I got the Pad Kee Mao and as far as noodle consistency it was great and not stuck to each other like some places it just didn't taste like anything. The bell-peppers were cooked perfectly but again this "brown sauce," where is it or what is it?? In conclusion: I'll probably come back to try something completely different and hopefully better improve the star rating I gave you. I got super into pad thai about a year ago, i mean like eating it 2 times a week. And when i moved to austin I was scared I wouldnt find a place that I could regularly go to for that fix. I went to a few spots but their pad thai just wasn't what I wanted.. i got luv thai suggested to me and its literally the best restaurant i've been to in austin. They even charged my phone for me once when I was down bad. But these people are super nice, and their food is always a lot and super good. I can't name one bad thing about the crew or establishment. Same great food and same great people running the place. This is my go to Thai in South Austin. Covid has changed the dining experience, but they still have consistently good food and great service. Stumped on what to get? Start with the rice balls and Tom Yum soup. Papaya Salad and Pad Kee Mao Gai for the entrees, followed by Sticky Rice with Mango for desert. You're welcome! read more

I've had my eyes set on LUV Thai Cuisine for sometime now as I'm constantly trying to find new Thai food. My goal is to find the best pad thai in every city I live in. I finally gave LUV Thai a chance after three years in Austin and their pad Thai did not disappoint. I ordered for pick up and the service was quick. My order was ready in no time. I spent little time inside when I picked up but it seemed like a nice place for a date with quiet ambience and nice decor. I really enjoyed their pad Thai and appreciated them setting some of the toppings on the side. We also ordered some shrimp spring rolls, tom kha gai soup, and pineapple fried rice. The shrimp rolls were great and a good value for the price. I liked the tom kha gai soup but it has a different taste than what I'm used to; it has less of the lime and coconut flavor I've had in other places. The rice it came with was a little too mushy for my taste. We enjoyed the fried rice despite it having a bit of a smokey flavor. All in all, if this review were only for the pad Thai it's be rated higher but as a whole it was a good meal from this Thai restaurant in southwest Austin! read more

Eggplant dish is very nice and not one seen often. The special dish list is fish and authentic - possibly a bit much for milder tastes. Appetizers Spring Roll and Egg Roll are spot on and very tasty. I suggest getting both - they complement each other. Ginger Stir Fry - a bit sweet. Sauce was runny but flavorful - style of cooking is much like overseas. Pad Kee Mau - well made with fresh ingredients, not a lot of noodles - tons of meat and vegetables. Sauce very runny - fast stir fry style. I ordered the food online and had it delivered, it was very quick and the order was correct, just surprisingly unflavorful food which was a disappointment. A combination of stiff service, poor quality and not-as-described food, and a chef/owner who glares from the counter gets us to a 1 star valuation for what was hoping to be our new favorite Thai restaurant. Now it is the restaurant we will never return to. We chose this place based on a few factors: very positive reviews, within 10 minutes of our house, and reasonable prices. I'm going to skip all the details but our service was okay if not a little stiff. The problem began when we got our chicken satay. We've never seen a chicken satay covered in sauce...like a light curry or something? It was still served with the traditional peanut sauce on the side but it was literally drenched and sitting in a pool of sauce. Weird. Next we received our "fire pot" tom Kha with shrimp. Hmmm....where is the fire? Our server told us "they dont do that". Hm? I'm sorry you dont do what now? So they serve you the soup in the fire pot setup (the metal thing with hole in middle) but no actual fire. So basically its just harder to scoop. But that's only the start of what was wrong with the soup. It seemed to be terribly over cooked so all the vegetables were mushy and blending into each other. The onions were doing that thing where they turn to mush and start disintegrating into the soup. There was A LOT of lemon grass in it. And the shrimp were obviously old (you can tell by flavor, texture, and how peeled back then sides get.) Basically the soup was awful and not as described. Very disappointing. Then our pad see ew noodles arrived. Well they got the "ew" part right as the noodles were stuck together and horribly undercooked. I'm talking inedible. You know...when you pay no attention and the noodles stick together so they dont even cook? Yeah, like that. So when our server came to ask how everything is I told her it was not very good and explained why. I explained how I was really looking forward to eating there based on the reviews and how disappointed I was when the food came out. Her response was, "Okay" and walked away lol...basically just wanting to get away from me. No understanding, no reassurance that it was a fluke, no real apology or anything, just a look like I made her uncomfortable and her getting away from me. I did not raise my voice, curse, or say anything rude, just basically said what I said here about the food. At this point one of the owners or chefs? (50-60s woman) comes out from the back and glares at us. I only found this out later because my fiance was too embarrassed to mention it at the time. I wouldn't have taken the time to write this review except for that glare. Well here I am glaring back at you and letting everyone who reads this know that there are better, friendlier, more welcoming restaurants in the area. We are still looking forward to finding our new favorite Thai restaurant and the only good thing about our visit here was crossing it off the list. read more

My go to is the pad Thai with shrimp, perfect amount of food, nice and spicy (what I request) and tastes great when placed as a to-go as well. One of our favorites in South Austin. If you are looking for good Thai, this is your spot. It's not very big with small simple tables. I love locally owned business, you can always see youngsters folding napkins or otherwise helping family at this restaurant. Always good service and attention to detail. We have visited multiple times, and food had always been great. Tried variety of dishes and their specials, never been disappointed - curries are delicious, Tom Kha is flavorful, my husband loves theirs salmon dish. You can't go wrong with whatever you choose. Was very tasty. Ordered for delivery via Grub Hub. Rice Balls - Delicious. Great flavor. Just the right amount of curry. Shrimp Paradise - This is more of an eat-in dish, IMO. The batter on the shrimp tends to get "mushy" the longer it sits - soaking grease and steaming itself in the takeaway packaging. I imagine it is delightful when just out of the kitchen. The only other thing I would say is that there is quite a bit more batter than shrimp. Nua Todd (marinated fried beef with crispy garlic) - This was a dish that I've had before elsewhere but didn't make the connection. Likely my fault, but based on the menu description I didn't envision this. With that said, it was very tasty. I would suggest updating the menu to say something like, "similar to beef jerky" as this is exactly what it was. Chewy, tough, dried beef. That isn't a bad thing. Just not something I'd order as an entree - more of an appetizer. All-in-all would definitely recommend you try. I will absolutely be ordering again. read more
