I ordered a chicken arepas that was really flavorful. It had chicken, mozzarella, and grilled onions. Food was really fresh too. Service was a little slow, but staff had good energy. Casual place with a real Latin American feel. I will be back!!!

I absolutely love this spot. The Mechada arepa which consists of skirt steak, platano maduro and cheese is one of my favs. The corn is also so flavorful! It's a must try and you cannot forget your Mojito!!! Everytime I have been the service has always been great, the food is always so flavorful. If you're in the city or just visiting you should def check them out

Found this place on google maps, and I am so glad I did! We ordered the ceviche de pescado as an appetizer. This was among the best ceviche dishes I have ever had. The avocado, fish, onions, tomatoes... all of the ingredients were incredibly fresh. And the passionfruit flavor was phenomenal. The seeds in the dish also added a nice texture that I enjoyed. I would come back here just to get the ceviche (and I probably will, although I'm only in town for 2 weeks). The arepas were also amazing. The Carnicera was me and my boyfriend's favorite; the grilled wagyu skirt steak was very tender and very flavorful. The Buenaventura was also delicious. Overall, I was super impressed by all of the dishes' flavors. Nothing was overpowering, nothing was too salty. The restaurant has a lovely ambiance and our server was very friendly as well.

Come here! I stopped by for a quick lunch before leaving town, and I'm so glad I did. Super cute spot with great decor. All of the staff are really friendly and helpful. I was dining alone so I only ordered the carcinera arepa, which had wagyu steak, plantains, and avocado inside a perfectly cooked shell. The chimichurri sauce was incredibly smooth and tasted amazing on everything. The plantain chips on the side were a nice accompaniment. Wish I had the chance to taste more things on the menu! Will have to wait until the next time I'm in town...

Maïs Arepas is one of those rare places where the food is even better than you remember--why don't I come here more? My favorite street corn I've had outside of Texas, the sauces that accompany the arepas are so flavorful and the staff is so helpful! I'll be back.

Literal hidden gem! Arepas were so good! We were traveling with a friend who has celiacs and she didn't have to worry about anything and was able to really enjoy herself. Had empanadas as an appetizer and the steak arepa. Nicely seasoned and had big pieces of steak in it. Definitely will be back when visiting Nola!

Second time coming here and just as impressed as the first. The service is very attentive and helps explain a lot of items and gave suggestions. Literally cannot go wrong with the mojitos. We got the corn and ceviche to share and then everyone got a different arepa and it was all so good!! The restaurant is cute too. I love it here.

I casually wandered into this spot, and it's now my favorite place in New Orleans. The Colombian food was the best I've ever had, hands down! You have to try the corn and the veggie arepas!! The service was amazing, and the music perfectly set the mood--light Spanish tunes with so much energy!

Comfort food at its finest. I cannot visit without getting the corn, it's so good and I always save the excess sauce to dip my plantain chips in. I've had the whole fried fish which is really good. I've also tried the shrimp (marinera) and chicken (Pollo grilliao) arepas and they are both delicious, hard to chose between the two. The restaurant is pretty small so get there early and if there is a wait head to the bar to get the best sangria in the city! Yum!

Contemporary Colombian arepas. It was clean, a simple menu, and it felt like they cared about the food. The sampler was crispy, each one flavorful and beautifully complimented by the salsa rosada. The limeade was very fresh and not very sweet so don't think soda, think sour lime warhead candy. I got the Choriarepa. Best chorizo I've ever had, seriously. It was such a good meal. The arepa was huge! Each ingredient played off of one another. I also tried a few of my friend's plantains and they hit the nail on the head with that. Kind of pricy but worth it.

Went here our first night in town. Not too long of a wait but does get crowded fast. Waiter was sick and was still working. He was nice but it's different when you work around someone's food. Short and sweet. The Fruit drinks weren't good. It's like you can taste the tap water over the drink idk. It wasn't it. The Corn was cool, I'm not a big fan of the elote. Mini Arepas as an appetizer. Probably didn't need since we got the Arepas as entrees. They were okay. Nothing to brag about. I would look at other appetizers if I had known. But with all that said. The Chicken and Waygu Main entree Arepas was . I can't even remember all that was in there but they made up for everything else. Probably give this another try but they got a lot of competition in New Orleans.

Fresh and delicious cuisine in the CBD, we loved the arepas, roasted corn, crispy mushrooms and assorted veggies. Everything here was tasty, fresh and sent us on a flavorful journey to Columbia. The service was also amazing and the staff was super friendly and attentive. The atmosphere of the restaurant also took us on a journey to Columbia and beyond. 10/10 recommend if you're in the CBD area ^^

We are wanting to come today, party of four for lunch, and would like to know if we need to make a reservation? Also wondering about attire, it's a little hot out these days, me, my wife and our two boys 17 and 13? Thanks in advance.

I would make a reservation just to be safe; it gets pretty crowded. You can probably get away with nicer casual attire

    Is there a Happy Hour?

    yes

Trying to make reservations which is how they are seating right now and there is no option when I call to speak with anyone or to make a reservation. Any suggestions besides just driving down there?

I had to just call and make a reservation with the person who answered. I did call before the dinner hours began, so it wasn't hard to get someone on the phone.

Is this restaurant kid friendly? Are there kid friendly food options available.

Depends on what your kid is used to eating. The menu is online or you can access it on fb. My 7 yr old tried everything we ordered just fine and enjoyed his own meal but he is not a picky eater.

    Is this a party bar?

No. It's a small casual restaurant that has a bar. But it's def family friendly and no late hours.

Can your dishes be prepared dairy free?

Do they have gluten free options?

Hello, Amber. Our menu is 100% gluten free! Any specials we may have containing gluten are prepared off premises.

    Do you take reservations?

Hello, Sabrina! We do accept reservations. Please call during our posted business hours or an hour before opening times and someone can assist you.

The presentation of the food came was amazing. We ordered the linguine and added meatballs, which was well worth it. We also ordered the shrimp & grits, which included Brussels sprouts. Boy, it was sure nice to get some vegetables in my stomach after eating all that yummy fried food during our stay! All in all, both dishes were delicious. It is a little on the pricey side, but after several days of eating in the touristy area of the French Quarter, this was truly a welcome change. Service was polite and attentive. I always appreciate the staff's efforts by making simply making eye contact and smiling (which they did). Seems trivial but I think those small things says a lot about a business. I would recommend this restaurant even if you are not a guest of the hotel.

The ambiance is amazing, plus velvet, emerald and sapphire tone, glitzy, and feels like a good photo op. The bar and cocktail menu looked expansive. However, I was going to be hopping on a meeting, so I could not partake, unfortunately. A group got this impressive tower of espresso martini and everyone seemed to be enjoying their drinks! I wanted that New Orleans seafood but had late lunch, so I opted for just the crispy gulf shrimp on cheesy grits. I really wished I can hungrier because the dish ended up being very heavy. The shrimp were nice and crispy. The charred Brussels sprouts gave me the false sense that this was a healthy dish because I was getting my veggie intake. The bacon jam was sweet and went well with the Brussels sprouts. I loved the combination of the cheesy grits and the Crystal hot sauce. It was the perfect amount of both and some how led me to understand why Americans put hot sauce on their Mac n cheese and some other cheesy dishes after 30 years of not really understanding the attraction to that combo. I got the marinated olives to go so I could have a little snack later. They were just stuff I feel I could get in a jar... not really sure if I could justify the price. I think this is a fine place if you're looking for a photogenic night out drinking with a group of friends. Could be really cute for brunch!

My wife and I visited on our first NoLa trip together about 4 years ago and make it a point to go every time now. Our first time we stopped in for lunch at the bar and had an excellent experience, and decided to return. We came back on the next trip just to grab a drink and a snack before heading down for dinner in the Bywater. The bartender (Chris) gave a bunch of recommendations for places to visit that way, all of which we have done in the past few trips and have loved. But it's this past trip where we were truly blown away. We were in town for JazzFest and after walking back to the French Quarter, we were thinking about food options and decided to take a gamble to see if we could get a seat at the bar or maybe grab a drink for the road before getting food somewhere else. The bar was full when we got there around 8/8:15, but they had a no show and could serve us, as long as we ordered quickly and were ok with the check hitting the table right at 9PM. Given our slightly (perhaps generous) inebriated state from being at the festival all day and being slightly underdressed, we felt this was quite a kind accommodation. With the clear expectations of needing to get our orders in quickly, we wasted no time making a decision on our drinks and a few food options. Despite this need for a quick turn around, at no time did we feel rushed. The food and drinks were absolutely perfect, as they always are. But what impressed us most was the staff. At no point did the hostess or wait staff seem annoyed by us, despite us parachuting in from a music festival and looking like sunburn and poor decisions. By managing expectations on the front end, we never felt rushed despite the need for a quick turn around. They were all lovely, professional, and as cordial as if we were regulars with standing reservations once a week. In terms of atmosphere, it is always perfect: lively and fun for a date night, dinner with friends/family, or just a nice drink before a night out and about. I truly cannot begin to explain how much I love this restaurant and every experience I've had there. The awards and accolades this establishment (a sincere and lofty term Jewel of the South truly deserves) have been awarded are beyond well earned. Restaurants around the country should aspire to provide the quality of food, service, and overall hospitality Jewel of the South provides on a regular basis. It will continue to be our first and foremost recommendation to anyone we know who is going to New Orleans. Bravo! We shall return!

I would use this version as your gold standard when dining out in New Orleans and looking for a perfect Sazerac. We enjoyed watching bartender Rachel craft each drink. Rye whiskey, Peychaud's Bitters, and sugar are stirred in a small pitcher with ice. The serving glass is chilled, then emptied, and finished with an absinthe rinse along the rim. The cocktail is strained into the glass and topped with a lemon peel. The atmosphere makes the experience even better.
