I used to frequent this location when I lived in the area. After relocating, I ordered for pick up two times in the last couple of weeks. The first time, guy at the front seemed to not have the best attitude (mind you I tipped) and not even a "thank you" just hands me my order, seemed irritated. Second time, still couldn't show basic courtesy (both times off times where it wasn't busy at all) so I've decided to find something closer to where I've relocated. Last night I ordered takeout from Madam Mam's. I placed the order online, entered my own credit card information, and planned to drive over and pick up the food myself. No server. No table. No delivery driver. No dining experience at all. Then, right before checkout, the screen asked if I wanted to leave an 18%, 20%, or 22% tip. For what exactly? At that moment, I felt something many consumers are beginning to feel: tipping culture has spun completely out of control. Tipping was traditionally meant to reward service -- exceptional attentiveness, hospitality, effort, and care. You tipped a waiter who took care of your table for an hour and made your evening enjoyable. You tipped a bartender who remembered your drink. You tipped a delivery driver navigating traffic and weather to bring food to your door. But now we are being prompted to tip for almost every transaction imaginable. Order online? Tip. Pick up your own food? Tip. Buy a coffee? Tip. Stand at a counter for two minutes? Tip. Use a self-checkout kiosk? Somehow, probably tip. Consumers are increasingly being asked to subsidize ordinary business operations while companies shift more of the financial responsibility onto customers. In the case of takeout, the customer is often doing nearly everything themselves. We place the order, pay online, drive to the restaurant, use our own gas, and carry the food home. We are not using tables, servers, dishes, or extended staff attention. Yet somehow the suggested gratuity percentages mirror those of full-service dining. What makes it especially frustrating is the psychological pressure built into modern payment systems. Those large preset buttons -- 18%, 20%, 22% -- are designed to make people feel uncomfortable selecting "No Tip." The experience no longer feels like genuine appreciation for service. It feels like obligation, guilt, and social coercion. And it is everywhere now, including places like Starbucks, where customers are routinely prompted to tip for transactions that were once considered standard counter service. This does not mean workers are the problem. Many employees are underpaid, and most people genuinely appreciate hardworking staff. The real issue is that tipping expectations have expanded far beyond their original purpose. At some point, consumers are allowed to ask a reasonable question: when did simply doing your job become something that automatically requires a 20% bonus from the customer? Tipping should be about rewarding meaningful service, not pressuring customers during every digital checkout screen in America. read more

I've been eating at Madam Mam's for two decades, before the literal divorce with Sap's and they had to split restaurants. Madam Mam's and Sap's have the best chicken pad Thai. Now I'm especially drawn to Madam Mam's because kids eat free all day Monday through Wednesday! We ordered our son the fried rice, with one egg roll, and two pot stickers. They allow two free kids' entrees for each paid adult entree. Minus one star for slow service. read more

Twice now I've ordered it at spice level one and it doesn't seem to matter, I get my food covered in red chili flakes. Their online menu is way too unclear and needs updating. Is 5 the spiciest or is 1? Also, their online menu has zero descriptions or photos of their food. They got our (mine and girlfriend) orders mixed up. View photo descriptions. Overall just an ok experience. Service was fine no problems there. Friendly and semi attentive. I ordered the egg rolls for a $6 starter. I was less than impressed as they had more of a rubbery texture as opposed to crispy. I expected the latter. Another disappointment was lack of flavor and somewhat greasy. I would not order those again nor recommend them. For my main course I was delighted to find Khao Soi on the menu. I ordered this yellow curry dish with beef for the protein of choice. The curry was nice and flavorful with just the right amount of heat. The noodles were done just right and coupled with the curry they saved the dish. It was lacking on amount of beef and onion. I was expecting more of both. If I am ever here again and order this dish I will ask for extra. Most likely won't happen. MEH for me. I always go back to Madam Mam's for F11 lol Guay Teaw Kua Gai with Beef is soooooo good. Stir-fried wide rice noodles are seasoned with soy sauce, garlic, and sometimes a hint of sugar, giving it a savory and slightly sweet flavor. It is served with a side of fresh lettuce for added freshness. We also always order Som Tum (Papaya Salad); it is incredibly refreshing and packed with flavor. Overall: Madam Mam's is delicious! I really like this location because there's plenty of parking and plenty of space in the restaurant. You don't feel like you're sitting on top of another group at all. They have a huge menu and make it easier for you to order by assigning a number and letter to the dish. Our server was on it. She wasn't overbearing or gone for too long and she also used a cart to carry the food which I thought was smart! What I Got: - Satay - this is one of my favorite satays. Very well seasoned and comes with a peanut butter sauce and fresh cucumber salad that pairs well with the sauce. - Pad Prik Khing - This packs some heat (not unbearbalr but it is very spicy). I liked it a lot, however, it does has a strong basil taste. - Pad Prik Pao w/ added vegetables - Similar to the pad prik khing except the sauce is different and a little less bold but still really good. I've been here quite a few times, but I'm just now getting to reviewing it. I absolutely love this place. My favorite dish is the crab fried rice. Although I will say since I've been coming here for years, I can definitely tell that the amount of crap that they put in the rice has changed over the years. It's still good though. My husband enjoys their food also and loves alternating between dishes. He loves their level of spice. You can't go wrong with anything here. I didn't get a picture of the Brussel sprouts before I thought about getting a picture, it has extra sauce at the bottom that it swims in. You can't go wrong with any appetizer. Service: I have no complaints. They have always been nice and super attentive. Ambiance: The booths are nice. They're pretty good about putting big tables together if needed. We were visiting Austin and were recommended to try this spot and it did not disappoint. The staff was very friendly and had our group of six seated very quickly. For apps we ordered the brussels sprouts and roasted chili edamame. Both dish were fantastic. The brussels sprouts were super crispy and savory; the chili sauce on the edamame was amazing, you can add it to your rice for extra flavor! For entrees we ordered the Sen Lek Hang, crab fried rice & kao soi. The portions were all very generous. The fried rice didn't look like much at first, but the flavor was amazing. It tasted like the rice was cooked in a seafood broth. The kao soi was the best in my opinion; it's a bit on the spicier side but the curry flavor was excellent. I don't understand the bad reviews!! But I've only tried two dishes here and it was a takeout order. I have heard from my fiancé the pad se ew wasn't great but we truly enjoyed the Ka prao and the egg omelette dish. Decent pricing too. They both arrived still hot and ready to eat. The egg omelette flavoring was just right. The ka prao was soooo spicy! But good savory and sweet flavor. Definitely ask them to go easy on the spice level if you can't tolerate spicy usually. This place used to be one of the best to go for Thai food. I would give them 5 stars consistently a few years ago. Food was great, service used be nice and it was cleaner. Last couple of times I went there it was very disappointing. I am not going back. Floors are so dirty and sticky, smell inside is not fresh and somewhat unpleasant, bathrooms are poor maintained, service with attitude and food is not as great as it used to be. Speaking of portions, they did increase prices by 35% but portions did not stay the same, instead they became smaller. Complete disappointment. We live closer to the 26th location but that location doesn't offer the P8S, so we always go to this location for it! Crispy sprouts. 4.5/5 Crab Fried Rice - Fatty, slightly crispy and smoky. This visit they undersalted. 3.5/5 Pad thai - I haven't bothered with this one in a long time. First time I got it was great, but it's been soggy and bland since. 2/5 Midnight Kiss/Amazing Thailand - Consistent. Crispy wings with my personal favorite sauces from them. 4.5/5 Crying Tiger - Sometimes they'll overcook the steak, but I had no issues with my most recent visit. The charred, smoky beef with the sauce is great. Wish there was more toasted rice for a nuttier flavor and SPICINESS to live up to its name. 3.5/5 Thai Green Tea - SWEET and STRONG. 4/5 Mango Sticky - Impossible to mess up but they gave a laughable portion of mango last time. 3/5 read more

Food was excellent as always from this place, except for the lack of shrimp deveining skills of the cook. Must have hired new cooks for this location and not properly trained. See picture. There were even some in the shrimp fried rice like that. Uck! Rest of the food was great. I love the Khao Soi. Not many Thai places in the U.S. serve it, and the ones that do can't hold a candle to Madam Mam's. It is HUGE! filling and always just the right spice. Prices are higher than I remember, but no surprise in this day and age. We tried their spicy edamame and it was out of this world. I would have given this location five stars like I did long time ago over 14 years for the south Austin location, but this place's bathroom was D I S G U S T I N G. I mean nasty dirty. Lucky I used it afterwards or would have lost my appetite. That and the shrimp knocked two stars off. Hope they read this and improve, as this is one of my most favorite Thai restaurants. read more
