This is the second or third time I have been here for Happy Hour and I probably wil not return. My friends and I like to enjoy a Happy Hour with drink and appetizer specials, which they do have but I have experienced much better Happy Hours with better deals. For example, they offer $2.00 off glasses of wine. I ordered a house Sauvignon Blanc and they asked if I wanted a 6 or 9 oz. pour. I had the 9 oz. glass and when the bill came it was $13.00 a glass. That is not a happy hour special to me. They also offer bar bites for $3.99 and have many choices. We got the coconut shrimp, tex mex egg rolls, and buffalo chicken bites. They were all just average. I think there are many restaurants that offer 1/2 price apps. at Happy Hour that are so much better. I know this place is usually very crowded and they have an extensive menu. I do like the location and atmosphere. Great outdoor space when the weather is good. To me the food is average and I am not impressed with their Happy Hour. read more

Firstly, bad choice of the restaurant's name. Makes me think of "Marty McFly" And that's not a good association. So. I went there at 7 on a Saturday night. The place was packed and VERY noisy. Bad acoustics. It was difficult to carry on a dinner conversation. Then, strangely, a "musical" duo arrived and began playing MOR tunes which only added to the din...can't imagine what the management is thinking (this is not a bar or a club; the entertainment, and I use the term loosely, was completely inappropriate to the situation and venue). AND, to make matters worse, those two guys were pretty bad. People in the bar area sounded like a large pack of drunken hyenas. Their were also three large TVs looming over all making for far too much stimulation. So much for relaxing, pleasant ambiance. The food: I ordered a pasta with sweet sausage and dried tomatoes and other ingredients which was inedibly salty. So over salted that I had a salty aftertaste hours after eating very little of it. The pasta was undercooked. They took the price off the tab without argument. The service was decent but nothing stellar. We went there this past Sunday for lunch, it was our second time there and the first time was terrible but they had just opened so we thought we would give them another try....big mistake. I ordered a French dip sandwich and the best part of it was the soggy roll. The meat was like the worst store bought roast beef you could find, thankfully they only put 2 slices on it. The waitress was terrible, she brought us the wrong drinks when she eventually brought them. So I have been here in the past and the food choices are abundant so its a good choice for the whole family. Well our last experience had us leaving before we even ordered! There was no one greeting people or even seating anyone when we walked in so we waited, finally a young girl appearing to be a server grabbed some menus and went to seat us. The restaurant was quite empty and she brings is to this little table (the 2 men that are with us are very tall guys.) So before we sit we politely ask if we can sit at one of the larger booths. She rolls her eyes, doesn't say a word, slams the menus on the counter while she looks for a different spot (which all around us is empty.) Walks back to a table, slams the menus on it that a little dish flies across the table and walks to the kitchen without a word. Puzzled we all sit down and feel uneasy. As we watch her, the kitchen is open and visible to where we are sitting. She proceeds to talk to one of the kitchen staff and and he looks right over at us. If you want a meal that makes your tastebuds sing. If you want a place that you can't wait to go back to, because you crave their food... Don't go here. If you want an overwhelming menu, mediocre food, enjoy the taste of dirty fry-o-lator oil with charred bits, a huge drink selection, in a fun atmosphere.. This place is for you. Also the service is good. But, when an entire plate is left almost untouched, you should be asked if something's wrong. My guess is that the waitstaff must know the food isn't that great and they just don't want to open that door . Dining room managers should make it their business to work the room and observe. It's also my personal policy to not ask for a redo . If a chef/cook knows how to "make it better", that means they conscientiously sent it out "sub par" originally . Culinary school trained eye or not - burnt and greasy is pretty obvious . We are friendly, generous diners but generally will just not revisit a place where they're not astute and food is just ok. There are lots of other places to try. They should slim down the menu, create some signature pub bites and focus on doing fewer things, better. The bar has a cool, modern-industrial pub look and is very nice. Spend your time there, drinking and snacking with friends and you'll have a fun evening . read more

Well before last night this was one of my favorite happy hour spots to go. Last night I was out with a few business associates. When I got up to go to the restroom I slipped and ended up falling because something was making the floor slick (later that evening 3 other people came forward and slipped in the same area). Several of the server's saw me fall and came forward. They filled out an accident report and offered me ice for my foot which I had injured along with my knee. When our bill came I was a bit shocked to see that they had not done ANYTHING for us. They hadn't even taken 1 thing off the bill. I asked to speak with the manager who came to our table and said "Well just so you know it is documented in the report that you had 2 martini's before you fell." Really.... I had 2 Martini's in 3 hours... this had NOTHING to do with me falling. In the end they took 1 drink and a desert off the bill but now I not only hurt myself but was being accused of being falling down drunk in front of business associates. Called Ray Harper (the owner) to complain. He spent about 20 minutes basically telling me how ALL consumers suck, tell lies, and are sue happy and so for this reason he will offer nothing if your injured in his establishments because to do so is an admission of guilt! Perhaps Mr. Harper if you took care of your clients you wouldn't have to worry about being sued! This could have been taken care of last night. Instead I was now insulted twice because your floor was dirty! Completely disgusted... Will never go again and will tell everyone I know what a disgrace your place is. read more

We decided to spend a celebratory family meal here after an event. I have an allergy to gluten but was assured by the waiter that I could comfortably order from any meal on the overly-huge menu that had a g-f designation. I did. The waiter noted my allergy on her order and took it to the kitchen. It took 45 minutes for our meal to arrive. When it did, I asked the man bringing my order if it indeed was gluten free. He said, "Yes." After a few bites I recognized trouble and called the waiter over. She was alarmed and recognized immediately that they had given me a regular roll. She whisked it away and grabbed the manager who dashed over with a report form, which I filled out. I told her that I had made my order clear with the waiter and that the bus boy had told me that it was gluten free. She replied, "Oh, they don't know anything about it." Because apparently they don't train any of the staff who deliver the actual food on food allergy issues. How is this even possible? And why would he have assured me it was safe to eat? How can they even claim that any diner can order food safely? The meal was ruined...I had to wait 20 minutes for a new meal, which by then I was too nauseous to eat anyway. My children and husband were alarmed, knowing that I would spend the rest of the evening ill. The current practice at this restaurant is reprehensible, and I shudder when I think of the implications of all of the people who have probably been eating ingredients they did not expect. We will definitely not be returning to this place or any other Maggie McFly's in the future. read more

My first time at the restaurant, and my last. I brought my family of five for lunch, and I visited the restroom.. went to wash my hands and found NO SOAP! Three dispensers, and all empty, and an employee using the hand dryer.. I said there is no soap, she said she is going to go wash them in the back. And I told someone so they could have them filled. Went back to the table and wish I'd walked out then and there.. but we were hungry and my three children wanted to eat. We ordered, our meals, and that's where it got worse. Our food was really not good. It all tasted like cardboard and the burgers gave my children stomach aches. This restaurant was recommended by many and always looks very busy, but for the life of me I cannot figure out why.. I have been to a different Maggie McFlys and could not believe how bad the food was here. Our waitress was nice, but service was so slow and careless. We ordered the fried avocado, which I was super excited for, and it was awful. The pieces were dumped on the plate and so soaked with grease it was puddling on the plate. We couldn't even eat it. When our meals finally came nothing was better. My scallops were so gummy and chewy I couldn't eat them. My boyfriend's burger was missing toppings, and the fries were cold. I don't mean luke warm, I mean inedibly cold. My mothers sandwich was too tough to bite through and her sweet potato fries were soggy. I could not believe it. Eventually our waitress came and I was able to tell her that things were not right. The manager came to speak with us and took my scallops and the avocado off the bill, which I appreciate but still everything was just so bad. I would go back to the location in Manchester but I definitely won't be coming back to this one. read more

This place has a HUGE menu and lots of gluten-free options for the gf diner. I love that they have a separate fryer - gf diners get to indulge in things not normally offered in other restaurants. The service is generally quick and friendly - this place does get busy over the lunch hour so I suggest going closer to the opening time to get in and out quickly. I could not believe how bad my lunch experience was today. We were seated and received water, after that no waitress/waiter would stop at our table until we stood up and asked someone. I ordered a large salad and my dish came with the corner chipped out of it and we were given no utensils. Again we had to stand to get the waitress back to our table and she took the salad and instead of replacing it, just served it on another dish. At this time, I had no dressing. The soup was cold by this time. I cannot believe any restaurant would transfer food from a chipped plate and expect the customer to eat it. The most unprofessional bar staff ever! Stopped at the new Maggy McFly's in Glastonbury for a salad and a drink at the bar -- it was a journey from incredibly horrible service, poor sanitation process and a level of unprofessionalism that is appalling. Our experience began with a bartender who seeming could not understand that when someone tells him that they are allergic to, its OK to sneak in a pinch anyway as the customer will never notice. I was very clear (as I have to be) that I am dangerously allergic to horseradish and that I wanted a tomato juice, with citron vodka, lemon, lime & celery -- NO SPICE WHATSOEVER. I watched in disbelief as he made the drink to my order and then filled the remaining 1/4 of the glass with Bloody Mary mix. When I questioned him, he looked at me like I had two heads and then tried to use the same glass to make another drink and I had to insist that he make a drink in a fresh glass. We ordered dinner salads and had to ask for table setups twice. I ordered sashimi style tuna and asked once again that the wasabi dressing be left off my salad and that the staff we cautious not to cross contaminate it with any wasabi - again the horseradish allergy. My salad was delivered with the aforementioned wasabi dressing on the side, which the bartender threw in the trash and delivered the order hoping I would not notice. He was very annoyed that I asked that it be remade due to potential contamination. And then it got worse . . . The bar staff proceeded to bring all the dirty ketchup bottles and place them right in front of us so they could wipe the lids and rims with a bar rag for our enjoyment. They were all chatting and proceeded to splash us both with dirty water until we asked that they stop. The staff also continually threw the dregs of drinks into the sink for our enjoyment and continued to put all the dirty barware in front of us while we ate. Never once did anyone ask if we wanted another drink (REALLY???) or check to see if our meals were OK. They were too busy chatting each other up and checking their cell phones . We also observed that they were rinsing (not washing) and reusing cocktail shakers. With this year's flu at epidemic proportions, this is a frightening practice. They offer drinks with light up ice cubes, talk about an opportunity to make someone sick if these are reused and not properly washed. If this is how the bar is run, I would be frightened to see the condition and practices in the kitchen. We could not get out of here quick enough and would not return unless their is a major change in their sanitary practices and training of the staff. Between the sanitation issues and the potential to be sent to the hospital with a sever allergy reaction (potentially life threatenting), its just not worth it. read more

I take my 79 year old mother to McFlys every Sunday along with onne or two of my siblings and friends. I've been at least 8 times and honestly can't complain abou this place. The staff is absolutely wonderful, attentive and knowledgable about the menu. We have never had to wait for a table fornmore than 5 minutes, and the menu is huge and diverse .... Appetizers, especially the meatballs are to die for. Salads have always been fresh and sandwiches were a hefty portion, very generous. I don't go to mcFlys for the bathrooms like some reviewers are complaining about - I go to enjoy a relaxing time with my family who drive up from Hamden to join us most weeks. We are never rushed and the servers are great with my mother (who needs her meals ASAP since she has an incredible appetite!) Go and enjoy this new restaurant and give it a chance. One or two bad experiences is not fair to a place that has just opened ....I think it's great. read more

Today was our second time here...the first was a terrible experience...I ordered a signature drink off the menu...the waiter came back and said they didn't have all the ingredients for that drink..so I looked and chose another..again he came back to say he was sorry they couldn't make that drink either...really?...two drinks...I said never mind bring me water...then if was time to order food..my boyfriend ordered a special..and yes...they were out of it...so needless to say we weren't going to go back but after a year or so we decided to try again...first they sit us at a very tiny table about a foot from the bar..in the pathway of where people were standing waiting for a seat at the bar.....the floors were dirty with napkins and straw papers everywhere...so...I ordered the Barbie dream house signature drink...it's suppose to have pop rocks on the rim..but...they were out of them...so it's not really a signature drink if you run out of all the ingredients..but the kicker is they didn't bother telling me...they brought the drink and hoped i wouldn't notice..I guess...so ok...moving along.....the main entree was ok..can't complain...nothing to write home about but not bad...so on to dessert...they advertise Nora's cupcakes so I ordered one...the waiter came back and guess what?..they didn't have it..they only had 3 left to choose from...ok it's not like its really late..we got there at about 6:30 or so....and to be out of desserts that early...so then they said ok we can take 10% off the bill...we did not ask for that they offered...good thing I looked at the bill closely which I don't do very often because on the bill were the desserts that we didn't have because they didn't have them to give to us! This will be the last time we dine here and we dine out a lot and like to make recommendations but we won't be doing that for this establishment read more

Loved it, had a surprise birthday party for boyfriend here and it was amazing. Service was great, even though 2 meals were late, we were given 15% off our bill and free salad and soup on the house. This was my 4th visit this year and I am sad to say that the quality and taste of the food has deteriorated. It is the small things, too much roux/ flour in the clam chowder, not enough blue cheese dressing on the buffalo chicken salad, no coffee in the tiramisu. While nothing was fatally bad it was not to the standard of past meals. However, the biggest disappointment was the lobster tacos (14.95 + 9.00 for the lobster) they were soaked in an overwhelming chipotle sauce. When we complained they removed 8.00 from the check allowing us to pay 15.00 for the rice side. Finally, when offered dessert we all said yes enthusiastically. The waitress brought one menu for 6 people. This restaurant started off great when it first opened. However, over time the attention to detail and staff training have definitely started to suffer. The other day got a roast beef club rather than turkey. We're not people who make modifications to orders and they can't even manage to get it right. What an amazing place! Atmosphere is awesome and clean. Bar is huge. Food is absolutely amazing!! All local fresh ingredients! I've never been here before but will definitely be coming back with my friends and family!! I cannot say enough about how delicious the food was! My husband had the jambalaya and the local homemade sausage was incredible. Not too spicy, but just the right amount of spice! I ordered the Back East Beer battered fish and chips and I have to tell you it was, hands down, the best I've ever had! It's conveniently located in the Buckland mall. I highly suggest you go here and see the 10 page menu for yourself and have an amazing dinner. The drinks were also amazing. I got a Barbie martini and it was rimmed with pop rocks! Maggie McFly's in Glastonbury has an amazing and large selection to choose from. They have a bunch of appetizers, entrees, soups, sandwiches, pizzas, and desserts to select from. I have been to this location a few times for lunch, and every time the order was excellent. My only issue with this location was the cleanliness. I noticed on my last visit that my plate and some of my silverware could have been washed better. I probably should have notified my server and asked for a new plate and silverware, but I decided not to. Besides of this little mishap, this place is great!! read more

I agree the menu is way to large, My first thought was that was that the restaurant is confused...who am I? Irish Pub, Mexican, Gourmet Pizza? In my opinion pick something and do it well. Our dinner was served by a very nice helpful young man though he was lacking in the training and knowledge a good manager should and must provide their serversI Was also surprised to find the owner was on vacation. Just seems to me only open two weeks and the owner should be there. Now for the food...I had a burger and fries and was pleasantly surprised, fries were excellent, crisp not salty or over or under done, burger was juicy and food exactly how I wanted. My two guests had pasta dishes, both were ok, though a side salad was an extra charge and was just iceberg lettuce a piece of onion a little celery and a bit of tomato..no bread was ever offered. To me the meal was a little overprice for one glass of wine, 2 cokes and a dessert 75.00 plus 20% grat. Go back ehh. read more

my first visit here was better than my second. Good hamburgers, good tacos, horrible ribs and even more horrible desserts. The display case of beautiful desserts is very deceiving. I have tried a couple and they dont even resemble whats in the case. The ribs are way overcooked and tasteless. Just go for drinks and maybe a burger and it will probably be ok. The food has to get better than this or they wont last. The bar makes good martinis. Someone compared plan b, well I hate plan b and dont understand why anyone likes their tasteless, overpriced hamburgers. So I dont think thats a good comparison. Maggies does have better burgers than plan b, but so dont a lot of places. Go to Goldburgers in Newington. read more
