I've been a dedicated customer of Mahalo since they opened a couple of months ago. It's in this small strip next to some Mexican businesses, and right next to a fruiteria shop. After reading high-rated reviews and seeing their food photos, I was set to try them out! They sell delicious Hawaiian dishes such as chicken katsu, BBQ short ribs, BBQ chicken, kalua pork, crispy shrimp, spam musubi, and more! I've never had real Hawaiian food before, so I can't judge whether the flavors are authentic or not, but I can say that the food is DELICIOUS. The galbi's seasoning does taste like some of the Korean BBQ restaurants in town though. My favorite order is their A3 Hawaiian BBQ Mix combo, which comes with BBQ chicken, short ribs, BBQ beef, two scoops of rice, macaroni salad & steamed cabbage. The portions are enormous and I love every meat that I got. I'm usually not a huge fan of teriyaki chicken, but they season it so well and the chicken stays juicy even after a couple of days. The galbi is soft and their BBQ beef is delicious as well. I just love how much food I get each time because it fills me up for 3 meals (I just need to cook extra rice). I recently tried their crab rangoons and fries as well. I don't like crab rangoons, but I think I'll be coming back here frequently just to grab some. The crab rangoons are SUPER CRISPY, and they give this Hawaiian sauce (not your typical red Chinese dipping sauce) with the appetizer and I literally can't stop thinking about it. It's the perfect combination. I regret not buying more and stocking up before the winter storm here in Dallas! The owner is super nice as well. There's never anyone in the restaurant when I visit which is sad because they deserve more love for how delicious their food is. Hawaiian Bros used to be my go-to back in 2019, but I recently went and it was disappointing. Today, I left finally the day where I wanted to have just plain but flavorful protein with rice. Tada! Hawaiian comes to mind right away and this day was my excuse to visit Mahalo. Small shop with a few tables for dine in. Order ahead if you don't want to wait for a long time for your food but I heard them said in the back "I guess everybody got hungry at the same time" while I'm waiting for my food. It wasn't a big deal for me as I know the food will come out freshly cooked. I had their B1 which is the BBQ Beef. Sliced prime rib marinated in their special sauce. Served on a bed of cabbage with white rice and macaroni salad. Good quality meat, delicious flavors and great service. Crab Rangoon was good but the short rib was so chewy. I got a mini plate with short rib and meat quality wasn't the best. It was also very chewy and flavor wasn't that Hawaiian. It was more teriyaki. I would come back and try something else. read more

Everything is cooked to order and it took about 15 mins so order ahead of you can The chicken is fattier than other places. I'm assuming this is because they use thigh meat vs breast meat. I'd order to go vs eating inside since it's small with only 4 tables and it's very warm and stuffy inside as if the AC can't keep up. read more

I have to say I was very disappointed with this place, pictures online, when I ordered were completely different from what I received! The food was okay, nothing special, I got the jumbo shrimp appetizer. Doesn't taste that good. The fries online looked amazing well seasoned Parmesan fries. What I got was soggy salty fries. I will say the customer service was great, if you were to eat in the ambiance is also good. Had delivery and enjoyed all the dishes. They were good, not great. But they were certainly solidly good. I am a little spoiled for Hawaiaan food as I live in Seattle (visting family in Dallas where I grew up as a teen), and we have many Hawaiian's who have settled in Seattle. Ordered A3 the bbq chicken, bbq beef and bbq beef short ribs. My wife and kid ordered the mini meal kalua pork. Each of their meals come with a side of rice, cabbage and Mac salad. The mini meals are a good portion if you want a half portion. They're a good value as well. For my first bite from my Hawaiian bbq combo, I had the bbq beef and it's delicious. Every bite is crispy charred and tender. Ther beef has a chew but it's sweet and caramelized has a nice crispy exterior and soft inside. You get one short rib that's a quarter inch thin and about a foot long. It's definitely enough. It has nice fatty bits and has a nice sear from a hot grill. The short rib is delicious as well. Had a bite of the Kulua pork and it's excellent. One of the better smoked pork I've had. I've been to Hawaii and it's juicier than what you get at some of the big luau. They have a nice spicy sauce that adds a good kick. My kid usually doesn't like it and ate half of it with my wife. The pork is smoky and nicely seasoned. The spicy red sauce goes well with it to add some slight sweet and a small bit of heat to it. Overall, would definitely go back again to support this place. read more

We had two orders, 1 bbq chicken and chicken katsu and 1 bbq beef, short ribs, chicken. They messed up 1 order. Instead of having the chicken katsu, they gave us pulled pork. No biggie because we were excited to try their food. As we were eating, we found something green in the pulled pork. It looked like a piece of a sponge you use to wash the dishes. Everything lacked in flavor besides the bbq beef. We don't know if we came on a bad night but we will not return. read more

It was about a 15 mins wait. The clerk was very nice. He told me for every order of $30, you get a free soda. He brought our food out to us and came back and asked if we needed anything else. The food was good. Isn't the best I had. I had the BBQ Mixed. Came with Ribs, Steak and Chicken. Not as sweet and I thought which I like. The beef was a little chewy. I ate of the musubi and it was good. Just needed a little more sauce which they gave me on the side. The mac was just a tad bit bland. Other than that, everything was good. I would stay away from the teriyaki chicken- Mahalo may have started cutting corners as I recall that I enjoyed their food before. Mahalo is a little gem. We used to have a Hawaiian place near us that we ordered from all the time but they closed down. it took us forever to find another place. We tried Hawaiian Bros but honestly they don't even compare to this place. Hawaiian Bros is like crazy salty, that's all i taste ever. Mahalo makes it right. It's kind of a hole in the wall place but don't let that fool you. they are super nice, I made an order online to pick up and misread the description. I thought the meal I ordered would come with more macaroni salad. After looking up the listing online, I realized 'woops, nope I'm wrong'. The guy was so nice though and just threw in extra macaroni salad on the house. I threw in extra tip to cover the extra macaroni salad, they were so nice. did not want them to lose out on profit. Honestly, don't want any way of them closing like the other Hawaiian place we loved. We absolutely love their macaroni salad, honestly Hawaiian macaroni salad is awesome. it doesn't have that terrible vinegar after taste like the other places. Their macaroni salad is like little scoops of heaven. We always want a ton of it. My Dr would not be happy with this. Their Chicken Katsu is on point, super crispy AND juicy at the same time. Most of the time I get it and it's dry but not at this place. Every time they make it right. It stays crispy even as a leftover and heated up in the microwave! Their BBQ chicken is like how I remember getting it from Hawaii. it's not all slathered with crazy sauce to mask the terrible chicken, like some places.... The chicken is grilled just right, juicy, and has great flavor from their marinade. The BBQ beef is another that we love a lot, they don't have it in giant chunks, they slice it thin and it's just right. BBQ Beef should be thin slices and not gigantic chunks to work out your jaw. We go here often and tend to order family sized meals. They cook their food the Hawaiian way and hopefully people recognize them. read more

Plates at $10-$14, everything, I mean everything, tasted like it was off the shelf or from a frozen food box and reheated. Mushy fries, from frozen fish filets that were the size of two fish sticks, but tasted like freezer air. Rice cooked so long ago you could spackle a wall with it. Fried shrimp that I wouldn't feed a starving man. And the teriyaki sauce, set solid like Granny's home canned jam. All this reheated/frozen food stuffs and it still took them a little over 30 minutes to bring out the order in an empty restaurant. Best Hawaiian food I've ever eaten. The portions are huge and absolutely delicious. I had the BBQ Chicken and Pork Combo. It came with rice, steamed cabbage, and macaroni salad. Most Hawaiian macaroni salad has tuna in it but theirs doesn't. I actually prefer it without the tuna. The sauces that came with it were perfectly balanced and delicious.
