Friendly service, good-sized portions, and fairly broad menu with numerous choose-your-protein options. Perhaps I ordered wrong, but I thought the flavors to be a little toned down. I had the lemongrass noodles with chicken and found it to be a Viet/Thai hybrid but blander than it looked. The Vermicelli Noodle dish is more akin to a Vietnamese bun if that's what you're looking for. The warm noodles doused with the nuoc cham sauce made the lemongrass noodles a little mushy. Still appreciate the fresh salad in the dish and overall generous ingredients. Pick another dish from the menu and you'll probably be OK with it. I came in for lunch and ordered chicken satay (a Thai staple) and a chicken stir fry. The Satay may have been the worse that Ive ever had. It came cold, thin and dry. It was a fairly busy lunch so impossible to get anyone to talk to about it. They were short staffed and paid no attention to me after taking my order and bringing the food to my table. I ordered a Happy Buddha beer and the Green Curry fried rice and it arrived fairly quickly. The rice was delicious, but was literally just rice, chicken and green beans in a delicious green curry sauce. Shout out for my exceptional lunch at Mai Thai. This small restaurant was near my hotel and I was really impressed with the food. I ordered the eggplant delight ($11.00) and it was delicious. I've had this dish before and it's amazing if prepared properly. The small delicate eggplants should be used with just the right amount of spice and Mai Thai nailed it. I knew my lunch would be amazing when I heard the wok sizzling in the kitchen. Service was efficient. The atmosphere is not much one way or the other. This was an occasional lunch spot that I went to during SXSW. Close to the Austin Convention Center, it was easy to head over there and grab lunch in between sessions. All the food we tried at Mai Thai was delicious and well priced for what you get. Here are the menu items that we ordered: - Soft Spring Roll appetizer - rice paper wrap stuffed with vermicelli, lettuce, cucumber, sprouts, tofu (you can get shrimp if you want). We normally order to go, but decided to to dine in now that things are getting back to normal post Covid. The food was absolutely amazing! And the prices are extremely reasonable. The best Thai Food in Austin! All of our dishes were extremely fresh, and the servings are huge (even larger than take out). The food is so good, that you continue to eat despite being full haha Definitely worth every bite. Everyone who works there is extremely friendly which is a plus. My husband and I were very underwhelmed. We had the pad Thai and Panang curry. The flavors of both dishes were average but we both agreed that the dishes seemed half made. The Panang curry literally only had tofu and a few pieces of red bell pepper. Most Thai restaurants add a few more veggies. Pad Thai also seemed to be lacking. Restaurant food should look appetizing as well as taste good. My recommendation is to skip this place if you're craving good Thai food and go to Titaya's instead! Walking around looking for a place to eat at 930 and we found this place. Haven't had Thai food in a while so we have it a try. We had Kao Soi, Mai Thai Red Snapper and Wonn Ton Soup. Lots of flavors that my mouth and tummy definitely enjoyed especially the Kao Soi. They close at 10 but they did not once rush us. They even told us to take out time which I'm glad so we could enjoy the food. We're visiting from Hawaii so probably won't get a chance to try it again as we have to explore but I recommend for anyone craving Thai or just plain hungry and want to make your tummy smile. read more

Looking for lots of food downtown? How about something that is relatively inexpensive but still delicious? Look no further, Mai Thai has all that on lock down. I tried the Panang curry, chicken pad thai, beef pad thai, and yellow curry at spiciest. By far, my favorite was the beef pad thai. Usually, I tend to like chicken pad thai more but this place really knows their beef. The spicy curry wasn't bad at all, maybe a little bite but nothing extreme (I also normally don't eat spicy stuff so it's really not that bad in my opinion). Their currys are good but not excellent, I would stick to their noodles since that is the most delicious part of their menu. They really put the right amount peanut sauce so that its not overwhelming. Will definitely be back if I'm craving Thai and don't want to spend more than $15!
