My boyfriend and I started with a glass of wine each and the calamari. I thought it was a bit too chewy, but I loved that it was pan seared. I ordered the pasta alla carbonara and my boyfriend ordered the spagetti ai porcini. Unfortunately my carbonara was made with actual bacon slices rather than pancetta which killed the entire taste. It greasy and extremely salty. Super disappointed considering this dish is highly praised here. Loved, loved,loved this place! It's the most authentic Italian meal I've had outside of Italy. And considering we can't travel there at the moment, this was pure delight! They got it totally right from the soup and salads to the mains. The wine,desserts and coffees were perfect, too. I also loved the ambiance and service. Malaparte has been the Italian restaurant for me and my friends. We celebrated birthdays, bachelorette, promotion events at the restaurant over the years. This place is not the fanciest Italian in the city, it's not Carbone, they have simple yet delicious dishes. My favorite dishes are grilled octopus, porcini mushroom pasta, and the steak (I honestly did not have high expectations on the steak until one time my friend ordered it). Their drink menu is more like what European restaurants would serve. Again nothing fancy, but every house menu drink I've had is more than delicious! I have seen so many pictures of amazing pasta on Instagram lately from Malaparte and am so glad I finally went in for dinner last night-- The meal definitely lived up to my expectations. The space is very cute: lot of wood and brick, intimate, cozy-- The windows are kept open and extend to outdoor seating. Our server was very kind and accommodating, however the table was left unattended a few times-- especially when we were looking to pay the check-- BTW, this place is cash only. With that said, we were very pleased with the food. To start, we got a special-- water melon salad and then the polenta with mushrooms and the grilled calamari, which are both on their menu. The watermelon salad was refreshing and perfect for summer-- We also loved the grilled calamari. The polenta was okay-- not as good as I was expecting. It had some what a chemical-like after taste. This was the only thing that we didn't love. Onto the entrees- we tried the carbonara, the pesto, the DELL'ORTA pizza and the AI CARCIOFI E SFILACCI DI COPPA pizza. Strolled in without a reservation at 10:45pm on a Saturday evening with a party of 3. We all got a bottle of sauce blanc to split to start. We then had prosciutto/burrata and a salad on the specials menu to start. We all ordered the Bolognese for entrees. Found the portions to be wildly different between 3 dishes and the sauce overall could have used more meat and a bit more red pepper to complement the profile throughout. I live in California and I needed to find a restaurant and reserve a table for 20 people outside in NYC for a business trip. Jacob was SO helpful when I called. We went for brunch with some friends from Rome and as much as they were very satisfied with the food we ordered (great Cauliflower Soup and Burgers) they were shocked to see the "gnocchi cacio e pepe al pomodoro" in the menu. Not the case here where the Italian waiter that waited only 2 tables decided to become best friends with the couple and their dog next to me and completely ignored his other table. I had to order the main course with a busboy and after my wine ran out for a long time, I decided to walk inside to pay for my food as I didn't want to disturb my waiter and his conversation with the next table. Big regret trying to support this restaurant while many others with more professional service could use my business. Also the food was edible at best. What a local, neigbourhood gem! We - four adults and two young children - went on A Saturday after spending a few hours at the Whiney Museum. It is small, welcoming and has a nice vibe. (They accept reservations for larger parties) Love this place, I wish it was my neighborhood spot, but I just don't live close enough! ha I got there a bit early, so had some wine at the bar. The bartenders are very friendly and helpful. This is where I found out about a really good white wine...Soave Classico. I've never had it before, highly recommended. Once everyone arrived the wait staff was very helpful with deciding what to get to share, etc. We ended up with the grilled calamari with calamari and the burrata/prosciutto to start....along with a couple bottles of the Soave Classico. Everyone was pleased with the meal. Their home made pasta was really good, but even the regular pasta with their sauces were great! We tried the spaghetti(homemade) al pesto genovese, rigatoni ai porcini, pizza di porcini tartufata, and a special farfalle with salmon. I ordered the Rigatoni a la Norma, the tomato sauce perfectly silky and velvety. The shaved fennel and escarole salad with roasted pine nuts glazed in extra virgin olive oil was smooth, crunchy and salty leaving me wanting more. It was my last evening in the city and I had heard fantastic things about Malaparte. In May 2015, I had a wonderful experience at Malateste, their partner restaurant down the street. Tonino, whom I assume is/was the manager, gave me his card and encouraged me to stop by either location next time I was in the city. So, what better way to celebrate two successful weeks of dissertation research at MoMA 's archives than an awesome Italian meal? Plus, it was absolutely freezing and I was intent on devouring their famed gnocchi and a few glasses of vino. I show up around 8. The restaurant is half full and the bar is packed. I ask the hostess if Antonio is in (here, I admit full fault. It's Tonino). She scoffs at me. I admit my err--obviously there was a huge miscommunication, but I came all that way and was dead set on my solo celebration. I ask for a table for one. The hostess turns to a man I assume is the manager. They whisper back and forth. What is this? TSA airport security? She turns to me and says, "no." Shocked, I reply, "no?!" She says, "no." I leave in disbelief. Never have I encountered such rudeness. Not even in Venice, where restaurant owners ruthlessly tear Americans to shreds and deny tables more often than they offer them did I face this level of disrespect. (Tip for Venice: politely find a spot at the bar, order a glass of wine--points for asking the bartender for his expertise--and cicchetti if it's before 8 p.m. or a charcuterie board. Table will be available before you know it). No, I did not eat at Malaparte and won't go out of my way to come back. read more

Wow, this place is an incredible hidden gem. You literally cannot go wrong here! There are many options for homemade pasta, which is cooked perfectly al dente.
