Homemade Matcha Gelato
May C.

We had a great meal at Mama Xita BBQ. We ordered the 2-3 person meat combo, and it was almost more food than the two of us could finish. The meats were delicious, and the side dishes and sauces were all flavorful and paired well with the BBQ. The restaurant has a clean, elegant, and relaxing atmosphere that made it easy to enjoy the meal without feeling rushed. The service was excellent, especially from our server, Joshua. He was friendly, attentive, and made our dining experience smooth from start to finish. We ended the meal with the homemade matcha gelato. It was one of the creamiest gelatos I've had. I personally would have preferred a stronger matcha flavor, but it was still a lovely way to end the meal. I'd happily come back again

I saw mostly 5 star reviews for this new restaurant so I came to try it out Long wait times even on a weeknight, so plan accordingly. I also know someone who put their name down, went home and came back because the wait was over 1 hr. They give 10 min leniency after they call your name. I noticed there was a patio and a waiting room by overhearing the hostess. Unsure what the criteria is, but we weren't offered to go wait in those areas. I also heard some guests had reservations, and I think that's reserved for high level chubby members. I guess you gotta spend a lot of money to get that privilege. Otherwise, expect to wait a while like the rest of us. The ipad where you put your name down is in front of the restaurant, but most people come through the back bc that's where the parking lot is. Our server Bryant was probably the best part about the restaurant experience. He was attentive, and can tell he's out here working hard. I saw him be in charge of a couple of tables besides ours. I think because he was in charge of so many tables, he didn't get to come check on us as often. I also read some other reviewers that the servers cook our meats for us. It wasn't the case for us. They load the meat on the grill and that's it. We flip it/cut it ourselves. We went with the 2-3 people combo, and it ran $90 or so since we have membership. The most tender cut for me was the rib finger. The ginseng one is supposedly their signature, but didn't taste anything ginseng about it. Most of their meats are marinaded, and the marinade is pretty similar to one another. That's why the sesame paste sauce that is usually used in hot pots was a weird idea. I didn't think that sauce went with the meats. They also have other sauces if you ask. It came in a 3 section tray that had a dry rub usually for skewers, a vinegary one, and a garlic tasting one. The garlic one was the best. I also asked for salt and sesame oil, and Bryant gave it to us. The sides included kimchi, potato salad, lettuce, tofu skin, pickled radish, pickle cabbage with cucumber, and seaweed salad. I guess they were trying to do the fusion with Korean and Chinese here. Didn't think any of them tasted exceptional. I think I liked the tofu skin the most. So... overall a 3.5 for the food. The service is a 5/5. Would I come back? Maybe... it is slightly more expensive than Baekjong across the street if you're only ordering food for 2-3 people. I think I liked the sides from them more. Out of the chubby group restaurants I have tried, I think Chubby Cattle is the best because it's AYCE.

Bryant was our server, he was amazing. Very attentive and constantly came by to check in on us even though it was busy on a Thursday night! This review is nothing against him, if you go try it out, Bryant is your guy. I'm giving this a 3 star not because it represents all the food, but because there was a lot of inconsistencies with the food. One thing I recall having trouble with is cooking the food! There was not a lot of space for the fats to drop in the pit, this would start fires well beyond the length of the tongs - I had to constantly wait for fire to die down and rotate around the pit like some imaginary bonfire was in the middle -_- The marinated pork belly was great, so was the rib fingers! I cannot say the other meats were great cuts, they would heavily require the sauces.. speaking of sauces, I don't think the sesame paste had any business being there. Don't get me started on ssamjang (soybean paste), that also did not mesh well with the types of meat. The star was the semi-spicy skewer sauce, that seemed to work best with the non marinated meats. Bryant did suggest us the 2-3 person combo, great amount of food. Even if they only give one rice, we get unlimited potato salad (with our membership), which I thought was the best side they had. I did not like the seaweed or kimchi much.. felt like it was preserved. There was a worry about wait times, the yelp sign in has some wildly inaccurate estimates. Always assume the max wait time +10-15mins. That's what we noticed with others around us as we waited. Would I come here again? Maybe if we selected meats instead of a combo.. maybe. But the sides were overall disappointing. Who knows..

Service was the best 5/5. Chuck roll was honestly the best. Rib fingers were not that good. Lots of remanence to baekjeong minus corn cheese

Long wait but very good! Jacky was our server and the absolute best. He's hilarious and made the dining experience even better. I always find it awkward when the servers cook for you since it's an extra person there but he was chill. The meat was all fresh, sides were good, and soup was yummy. The cold noodles is also a must. It was perfect to pair with the meat. Would skip the corn cheese though.

This place just opened recently, and I really enjoyed my experience here. Our sever was Neal, and he was very nice and helpful to our table. He was very positive, moved fast, and always helped us with our requests. The food there was amazing. We got the combo set for 4-5 people, and there were so many meat choices. The presentation of them was beautiful, and we enjoyed the marinated meats the most. There were also 6 sides presented when you get your table. They're refillable if you order one of the combo sets I believe. The interior looked so cool and futuristic, almost like you were in another world. There were screens all over the place, and the place was new and clean.

overall: food was decent and pretty good experience. service: everyone was super friendly especially our server Jayden. ambiance: can get pretty busy. we went on a tuesday night around 7p and the wait was around an hour. parking: parking can be difficult due to how busy it is.

Long line - one hour before opening for lunch- impossible to get a table

The Ultimate SGV Hype is Real. Mama Xita BBQ in Temple City is officially the hottest newly opened restaurant in the SGV right now, and the hours-long lines prove it. But here is the ultimate pro-tip: do not just stand there and wait in line. Walk right up to the front door and put your name into the iPad on the Yelp waitlist. They will notify you when your table is ready, saving you a ton of standing around. The Food & Concept If you've been to Chubby Cattle, you already know the vibe since Mama Xita is part of their chain. However, there is a major twist: this location is not all-you-can-eat. This is a highly popular, famous BBQ chain from China rooted in northeastern Chinese culinary myths, a region famous for its incredible cattle and sheep. They only do à la carte here, and it can get pricey. Your best bet is to order one of their curated sets, though even the cheapest set for two starts around $98. Service & Experience The service absolutely makes up for the premium price tag. Our waitress, Evelyn, was incredibly friendly, attentive, and helpful. She took care of all the hard work by cooking the meat perfectly right at our table, delivering an overall excellent dining experience. The Parking Nightmare The only major downside is the location's logistics. Parking in this shopping center is an absolute nightmare. Because it shares a lot with several other massively popular restaurants, finding a spot is a real challenge. Give yourself plenty of extra time to hunt for parking, or consider ridesharing if you want to avoid the headache!

Dry aged beef tongue
Jason H.

As someone who was born and raised in Shenyang in the 1980s, I have a deep attachment to traditional Northeastern Chinese charcoal BBQ. To be honest, I didn't come with high expectations since I rarely visit this brand even in Shenyang. It isn't exactly known for great value there--but today my family treated us. That said, this meal pleasantly surprised me. One thing I really appreciated was how the restaurant introduces Shenyang-style BBQ to American customers. Unlike Korean BBQ in Los Angeles, our BBQ is heavily influenced by Korean-Chinese cuisine, with a sesame sauce made from sesame paste, soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, scallions, and cilantro. The marinated meats also tend to have a slightly sweet flavor. Our server, Neal, spent several minutes explaining all of this in English before we ordered, and I really respect that effort. We ordered the 4-5 person combo, plus bibimbap, cold noodles, and dry-aged beef tongue. My daughter absolutely loved the beef tongue--it was rich, juicy, and probably her favorite dish. Chubby Group has always had solid beef quality in my experience. The meat was excellent, but what impressed me even more were the small details. The seasoned tofu strips were simple but perfectly balanced. The soybean paste soup immediately made me want a bowl of rice--it honestly reminded me of home. The buckwheat cold noodles were another highlight. The broth wasn't overly sweet or sour, nor was it as salty as the classic Shenyang version. It found a really nice balance. The bibimbap portion was huge, though the seasoning could have been a little stronger. Neal provided great service, was patient, and even helped grill the meat. It's exciting to see this group expanding so quickly, and I hope they continue to succeed. I'd love to see more authentic Shenyang flavors become popular here in the U.S.

We had a wonderful dining experience at Xi Ta Lao Tai Tai! The food was fresh, flavorful, and the quality exceeded our expectations. The meat was delicious, and everything was served quickly. A special thank you to Joshua for his outstanding service. He was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. His professionalism and warm attitude made our visit even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this restaurant, and we'll definitely be coming back!

餐厅环境优美舒适,装修特别好看。我们三个人一共花了200块。Jacky 很热情服务的很周到。菜品的味道也很好,芝士红薯一般般,别的都很好吃。下次还会再去! The restaurant has a beautiful, comfortable atmosphere and a really attractive interior. The three of us spent a total of 200 yuan. Jacky was very welcoming and provided attentive service. The food tasted great, too; the cheesy sweet potato was just average, but everything else was delicious. I'll definitely be back!

Valeria was the best server and was extra sweet. 5 star review is for her! Food was about a 4

One of the dish we ordered was the house special sauce crab with market price of ~$26 per pound. We added the noodles for $10. Normal practice the server should come and advise on the size of our crab before making so we can choose how big the crab we want for our dish, because we're paying by pound for the dish anyway... but within 2 minutes of placing the order, a crab dish arrived... HA! Problem 1: The server originally tried to give the crab dish to the table next to us and the folks refused the dish... then the server turned around and placed the dish onto our table for us. CLEARLY they made a mistake and made the wrong dish for next table and decide to not waste food and gave it to us. We asked if that was really our dish and they said yes... what a lie! The kitchen took 2 mins to cook our dish? haha...dumb! Next table was there before us and their house special lobster noodles arrived 10-15 minutes later. First they made a mistake, then tried to lie to cover it up. No one is stupid here. We would have been ok if they were honest about it and ask if we would accept that dish with no complain here. Problem 2: The table next to us got their plates changed multiple times and NOT once did someone came to check on us about changing plates. Problem 3: Our bill came. They charged our crab as 2.5 pounds. What a joke! I'm a crab person. I know my crabs. That tiny crab is probably around 1.5 pounds - 2 pounds max. (Check out the picture to see the small crab shell and the tiny pieces of the crab legs and meat pieces on the edge of the plate). The $10 they charged for noodles was a huge portion, but that is not the same value as 1 pound of crab that they overcharged us for the dish. The house special crab was pretty tasty and we like the fried calamari. The veggie was decent and soup was pretty weak... our bill was $150 and I tipped $20 for the experience. Be grateful and work on improving your practice

It's not the best Peking duck I've had, but it definitely did the job in satisfying my craving. We also got the stir fried beef cubes, the braised pork belly with preserved vegetable and stir fried pea shoots. All were super tasty and delicious. Service is decent for a Chinese restaurant and the restaurant does get pretty busy during dinner. Interior ambiance feels somewhere between a casual vs upscale eatery.
