This is everything I expect from a diner. I get that true home like feel when I walk in. Service is usually good and management truly does care. If I ever have a problem they make it right. I don't expect everyone to be perfect all the time especially on a busy night with like a thousand items on the menu. I've only had one single issue out of almost two dozen trips and once I told management it was fixed right away. A large group of us stopped off here for some breakfast before heading over to Englishtown. From the looks of it, this diner seems more swanky. The place is pretty big and clean. We had no problems getting a table for 9 upon arriving. The breakfast menu offered your normal selection of diner breakfast dishes. I had the french toast with cinnamon apples while BF had the corn beef hash. One of my friends had an egg white, spinach, and turkey wrap, except it came without the spinach. Throughout of meal, the servers kept dropping things, or neglecting the water pitcher refilling, which ended up spilling over. Service was definitely lacking. I know it's Sunday, but it's no excuses to leave your tables unattended or keep dropping things all over the floor. Get your act together! read more

Absolutely disgusting. I ordered pancakes and due to a "mix up" in the kitchen, they brought out food that had already started being eaten by someone else. Everyone knows that for each of those people there are probably countless others that were perfectly happy and didn't leave a review. I started coming to this diner long before the new owners took over. I came here before the fire. And I've been coming here frequently since the reopening. I have "made friends" with this diner. You come here long enough and you get to know the place, the people, the owners, the managers, the wait staff. These are GOOD PEOPLE. They are in it for the long haul. They are dedicated to providing great service and great value across a very broad range of tastes and appetites, three meals a day, day and night till 2:00 AM, and on weekends, 24 hours. YOU try doing that. It's not easy. I am *high maintenence* when it comes to food. I know it. They know it. And they jump through hoops if I ask them to. That's my experience, over and over again. I've long ago lost count of the number of friends and clients I've brought to eat here. Nobody has ever been unhappy. So, I just don't understand the negative reviews. Maybe just bad luck? I don't know. Nobody's perfect. There are three other diners in this area about the same distance from my home. If it was worth it, I could drive a few miles more and go to any of several others. Where to begin? I don't usually write reviews but I used to go there a lot, then moved. I was in the area so we stopped in on Sunday night. What a mistake. Things have changed. The food was ok except I wanted my sandwich on rye toast and it came on white. I wasn't going to ask the lady to fix it because not only did she look like a witch, she had the attitude to match. She was downright rude. Plus we had to ask more than once for silverware. It helps to have utensils when you're eating. Needless to say we won't be returning. The need for a late night dinner with a buddy led us to this diner. Since I had never dined there before, I gave it my "standard test" for new eateries. The French Onion Soup was not up to the tangy flavor that I prefer, but it was acceptable. I ordered the Beef Gyro & they accommodated my request to dump the French Fries in favor of more Greek Salad. This is on the positive side. The ingredients were tasty but the Pita Bread seem a bit stale. (Maybe they were running out at the late hour of our visit.) My pal ordered the Bluefish, but they were out of it, so he settled with the Swordfish Steak & Penne Pasta. He indicated that it was tasty & sufficient in size. We both left satisfied by what we had. If you want a late night nosh, you should try this diner. It is a good, solid place but nothing exceptional. If it's open & you want to go a little further, nearby Gus's Diner is a better option. I was looking forward to finally returning back to this diner after their much needed renovation. The outside structure is much bigger and visible driving along Rt. 9. There is ample, private parking and is wheelchair/ handicap accessible. There is a very long bench for those waiting to be seated. They did spiff up the place. I noticed a couple of display cases of pastries and pies. For the amount of money spent in renovating, they should pick better tables and seating for patrons. There seems to be a not so pleasant smell lingering in the air as you enter. Like the smell of dirty dish rag. If it is, then "Englishtown.....We have a Problem".... Our server was pleasant and nice, and attended to our needs the best that she could. The Fried Sea Combo, at $20.00 was not worth it. I can tell that the breaded shrimp was not made fresh and was from a frozen package that they just drop in the fryer. The crab cake does not contain real crab meat but imitation crab. Seasoning was bland, and they used a lot of binders. The Au Jus Black Angus Braised Brisket of Beef was just OK but not memorable. I noticed that when they served the Brisket in a pile, the top layer had the nice, choice slices of brisket, while underneath was the runt of the brisket parts. The home made cabbage that came with the brisket was not what I expected it to look like. It came in shredded and had the color of beets, which showed that they were cooked with beets in the pot. I went here for breakfast with my wife kids an parents. I thought my eggs were cooked perfectly and has the right amount of seasoning. My kids had the waffles which are tremendous and really loved the whip cream and strawberries on top of the waffles. When a 3 and 4 year old see a waffle the size of their face covered with whip cream and strawberries you know they are going to be excited. The coffee kept flowing. I wish I checked yelled before stopping here today. I walk in got seated immediately, I never been here before and wasn't sure what I wanted. The waiter was trying to rush me to order, I ordered the Irish omelette, a waffle and chocolate milk. The chocolate milk was the best thing I ordered. It took a while for the food to come after the order was put in but it wasn't busy at all. I was maybe one of five people in the restaurant as a guest. The food wasn't hot when I got it and I had to butter my own toast. The waiter walked by me 7 times before asking if need anything else. With the amount of food I ordered he should of been asking if I wanted refills. I was thirsty throughout the meal because everything was so salty and was being conservative with my drinking since the service sucked. Now I gotta run and stop somewhere to buy a bottle of water because of how salty and crappy this breakfast has been. I drive by this diner a dozen times a year. Well.. We have frequented this establishment many times before --- however, today... Our waitress had an unprofessional attitude (abrasive, put food items and told us "well you can just grab it" instead of dispersing the ordered items to the individuals). When I went to place an order, I was told they could not accommodate due to no one being in the kitchen to sauté". Additionally, she forgot many items and we had to continue to remind her (which was met with disgust and eye rolling). Then we witnessed another guest receiving the Penne Vodka which supposedly wasn't available, that is when the manager came up with a half ass lie to cover why they couldn't accommodate our food requests. FIRST - I asked the waitress if she could sub breakfast meat (since I'm a vegetarian) for pancakes and she sends the (extremely rude) "manager" over who then tells me to read the menu. The waitress brings over the bill with the meal that I didn't eat because of them still on it. Then the "manager" came over and said "there's nothing wrong with it, you can pay for it". The brisket sandwich on rye was delicious but it needed more fat trimmed off the top of some slices. The fries, cole slaw and pickle were fresh and tasty. My friend had an exceptional and a very generous piece of broiled bluefish. Vegetable sides and the rye bread were also very good. There is room for improvement in the cake department. The lemon coconut cake from the dessert tray was a bit stale. Our waitress could have been a bit more upbeat. It's open late, has a huge menu, features large potions of family recipes that are fairly priced. They also feature a host of freshly prepared, delicious, desserts. As decadent as the desserts look, we always feel a green light to indulge because the entrees, sides, burgers, sandwiches, soups, & salads were prepared with wholesome, healthy, fresh ingredients. This is not the dinner you want to eat at. The service was slow and didn't comply with us. We asked for straws and haven't received them at all.
