Our family likes coming here. The food is always fresh and you can tell by how busy and packed it can get. It's my daughters favorite Chinese place to go to because she likes the fact that she can eat as much clams and chicken as she wants and then have ice cream afterwards lol. I can't lie we adults also like it because of the variety of seafood choices to select from. You can get crawfish, clams, mussels, oysters, shrimp and sushi. That's just a few of the different parts of the buffet. The staff are nice but they can be a lil more alert on the drink refills. Overall we enjoy the place and would recommend it to anyone who likes to dine at an all you can eat Chinese buffet. read more

Worst buffet I've ever had in my entire life. The food was almost inedible. Everything was dry and gross...Everything! It was just awful, and the waitstaff are friendly but quick for you to pay and leave. The bananas had a red-ish sauce that you would think would be strawberries, but I think they mixed up the cans and put the hot pink Sweet and Sour sauce on it. The wait staff said thats normal. Small selection - only 1 aisle of entree options and there isn't anything spectacular that other buffets of the same sort don't have. Food is okay - the crawfish did not taste fresh. Not many options for sushi either. Servers could be more attentive in refilling our drinks. I probably will not come back. You won't find thrown in fillers like at other large multi table buffets and when tray gets empty it is replaced with a fresh right away. Outstanding buttered whole salmon steamed to perfection. Salt/pepper shrimp, spicy baby clams in shell, mounds of steamed Crawfish, walnut shrimp to die for, salted cracked crab in shell, squid, steamed book choy, spicy green beans, sauteed garlic spinach, spicy pepper beef, crispy orange chicken, glazed chick medallions with vegetables, and more. There is always fried or white rice, lo mein, and two different soups. This restaurant recently opened up in my neighborhood and thought people should know about it. I went here just to try things out since I always like trying new things. This place did not disappoint in that department as there were foods I have never tried before, such as dumplings, pineapple cake, octopus, and fried crabs, in three stations, Salad/Dessert, Appetizer/Main Course, and Sushi. I did not try the sushi because I did not want to. Well, with that, the food had a downside. When I went to plate them, I took one bite and noticed that the food has been chilled enough to be luke warm. Perhaps the food has been standing there for a while, probably due to the lack of customers when I went (place looks like it can hold and feed 100 people but only 12 people, including myself, was there.) Other than that, I had a good time in the buffet, tried mostly every food, as well as desserts, and got decent customer service. Mandarin is awesome! I go there every now and then. By far the best seafood selection in Chelsea and 8.99 all you can eat is not bad especially when they started giving out 10% off coupons after your meals. The staff are super friendly over their and it's usually the same thing each time I go there. Some of the food looks like it had been sitting there for a while others are replaced often. The fact that they have a sushi bar is awesome. I love sushi so unlimited sushi is awesome and their selections are pretty good. Overall is you want a good service Chinese buffet then come to mandarin it's awesome. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it's not super accessible through the MBTA (the only buses being the 116 and 117 that drop you off on broadway at the Stockton street stop, and the 111 that drops you off at Washington and Garfield street.) In search of some good, sloppy Chinese food, I remembered this place had opened awhile back and had still not given it a try. Not generally a fan of the all-you-can eat places (I never seem to get my money's worth), I was swayed by my famished beau, who had been dying for endless piles of friend rice, sweet and sour chicken and (as it turned out) chocolate pudding. The place was busy, despite it being a mid-week dinner, and the buffet was ample enough. The quality of it, though, was a little underwhelming. It's hard to catch buffet food in its prime, understandably, though that's not what cocked my head. It was the lack of cohesion in the types of food (Chinese-meets-Central American-meets-1970s continental) and the odd fact that everything still kind of tasted the same. There was very little vegetarian food in the buffet, with the exception of fried plantains and some lo mein. There was some ho-hum maki sushi of the basic variety, and the dessert section consisted of a little ice cream, pudding and fruit. It was steep for what you can get unless sheer volume is what you are after. As friendly as the servers were and as badly as I feel suggesting it, you'd be best seeking out your sloppy Chinese food somewhere else. read more

This restaurant's buffet selection was very limited, the food was good, but nothing different than you would expect from an average Chinese buffet. There was nothing that I tasted that I disliked. If you're looking for vegetarian options, it's limited to maybe three or four items. The staff was nice enough when they would come by the table, but never came back with drink refills and the person at the register was on a cell phone the entire time talking loudly. The interior and ambience did not feel particularly clean or dirty. For what we paid, I was expecting just a bit more, but it did seem like a place that several families did go to often and did seem to enjoy. This place rocks. For a $12 all you can eat dinner buffet you can't go wrong. This place even serve decent sushi. The crab legs and lo mein was delicious. If they happen to be serving grilled talipia when you go definitely try it (very tasty but becareful of the bones). This place is very clean. Even the bathroom is clean Love it. I'll definitely go there again. Been there quite a few times over the last year and the food is still good. Don't be expecting a 5 star meal and you will go home happy. read more

Went for lunch today with a friend that came to visit from CT. This was my 2nd time eating lunch there. Today was a disaster! I know for a fact that buffet restaurants are supposed to keep food in open trays at a temperature of 140 degrees. All the food I put on my plate from these "hot" trays were cold when I sat down at the table. I notified a waiter who came and stuck his finger(yikes) in the food telling me.."it's not too bad" and walked away assuming (I hope not) that I would eat what was there! Giving them the benefit of the doubt I got another plate and same thing..really cold food. I've already notified the Chelsea Board of Health. I have never done that before, but felt it wouldn't be fair to others not to complain. read more

Service is great. Water is always full. Love coming here for seafood such as shrimps, crawfish, and crabs. They keep the seafood coming esp the crawfish(not cheap and slow like other place) Basic Chinese food. Hot and sour soup and egg drop soup. Not much fresh fruits but they have the basic and ice cream. There are puddings, cake, and fried plantain. stirred fried noodles and fried rice are pretty good. I would recommend this place. If you love buffets and love eating a lot of food in one sitting and then holding your tummy while you painfully walk back to your mode of transportation declaring that you're never going to eat so much again, when you know deep in your heart that you're going to be here next weekend then this place is for you. This is an Asian buffet and the name is even Mandarin Buffet, but I was pleasantly surprised that they had a lot of American food as well such as spare ribs and chicken wings. There were also some truly innovative items such as a muffin dumpling (I wonder if there is some other name to it?) which is basically a super tasty muffin with an edible fried shell casing substituting for the annoying paper wrapping. Extremely fun to pick up and eat. The buffet had a nice meat and seafood selection that had me unabashedly piling on plate after plate, and then wondering as to how they turn a profit at such a low price of $9.49 on a Saturday. I believe it is even cheaper at $8.49 on a weekday. The rudimentary economist in me came to the conclusion that I probably ate more than $9.49 worth, but since I'd ordered a drink in the form of a coffee latte milkshake at $3.50 that's where it must have all evened out. The milkshake was in a super tall glass and I thoroughly enjoyed it and still felt that it was cheaper than a starbucks coffee. The only negative thing about this place is that I waited about 5 minutes for the server to come take my drink order and since no-one came so I just got up and helped myself to the buffet after which the server immediately came over and took my order. All my plates were whisked away while I was away from the table and in that respect the service was prompt. I'm chalking the initial wait up to the fact that it was a busy day for them. Oh and I could have done without the boba (the chewy tapioca balls) in my coffee, but that is completely on me. I should mention that to them the next time. Good buffet, one special thing that attract people to this place is the crawfish which I love. But you gotta come in on weekends, weekdays food are just dried and tasted eh ... bc weekends has more people so they serve better food. The service is ok ... they're nice in the beginning but in the end, they always give you the bill quickly to rush you out the door. Which I find so disrespectful and it just kills people mood. Went in tonight while biting into a dumpling I got two pieces of plastic. Asked for the manager and when he came over he said he could give me 20% off because profits on buffets are very low. I explained I had not even finished my first plate (no where near $18 bucks the meal is) the manger then said fine and then said you're not going to eat any more right. This is a review on the staff not the food, the food may be good but we are not ever going back. My husband and two children came to Mandarin Buffet for dinner. All was going well until out of no where one of the male servers approached our table, I thought he would be removing plates but instead he put his hands on my son, he covered my son's eyes with both of his hands.... why????? Why did he do this? We do not know him, do not know if his hands are clean, my son is highly allergic to shellfish, do these people not get trained on allergies?? A few moments later the same server came back to our table and he was about to try the same thing on my other son and I firmly told him NOT to touch him. Never under any circumstances should a server touch a child, that is unless it is necessary like in a choking situation. The epic crawfish battle and crab!!! Feeling of shame and dignity out the window. I like to consider myself having manors. Standing in line waiting for my turn. As soon as the food came out "crawfish and crabs", people who are not inline just grabs random utensil and try snatch from the other side. I watch a lot of martial art movies!!! With my thong in hand I decided to walk away, I'm not gonna lose my dignity and feel ashamed strolling back to my table with eyes on me. But when my wife said she wanted some, I decided no more games and just called for back up, and we surround that buffet island like vultures, hyenas. food is good and price is right! the resturant is located inside a plaza. we were there for the first time today and was somewhat surprised that it's located inside a plaza. the plaza itself is pretty nice, lots of store. about the resturant, it's packed for a wednesday. the tables were almost full. the resturant is very new, the bathroom, decor, tables look very new. there's a nice selection of everything. sushi, hot and cold foods, desserts, and fruits. the food quality is also very tasty. the only thing i don't like is the hot spicy soup which is too spicy, flavor is very good though. i will recommend people here, and we will surely revisit. read more

I came here when it first opened in Chelsea. The food was decent, nothing out of the ordinary buffet. It had a small selection of food, but a good selection at that. My favorite part was the fact that there was SUSHI, which I love. I also enjoyed the fact that I saw someone making the sushi, so I knew it was fresh and not just sitting there all day. The only thing that irked me was the fact that a bill was brought to me after I got up my second time to get food. Staff is definitely pushy, and will stare at you. I called in to see if i can have some take-outs, and out of curiosity, I asked how do they charge take-outs. The guy told me $5/lb. But when I got my food, he just told me the total amount w/o telling me the unit price. I was surprised at how such a small amount can be 2 pounds, so I asked how is this calculated, so I asked how is this calculated, he said $6.99 per lb bc I had seafood. I asked is it always 6.99/lb if i have seafood, he goes no, depends on the portion of seafood you get. (BTW, he didn't even open the box and look at what I got in the box) I am pissed off because: 1. The dishonesty when he told me about the price. If I didn't double check the price before I leave, I won't be able to find out I was charged by $6.99 per lb 2. I think the rule for doing business is you set a price, and let the customer decide to buy it or not, in stead of vice versa, attracting the customers by a fake cheap price, then decide how much you are going to raise it without letting the customer know. 3. The food is very unfresh. I got 3 tiny blue crab legs. Two of them are halo in the middle, the meat is as hard as the shell. The 3rd one was OK. Which convinced me that the first 2 are from earlier meals. 4. employee/boss not friendly at all. After all, this is not a place worth trying. I can imagine all the earlier reviews about the service are true.
