After weeks of looking for a specific model of car, we found it here. It was in fantastic condition and low miles for the age. Now, I really don't care for the car buying experience, it's lots of dealing with people who actually don't want to part with their vehicle, or travelling long distances to look at cars that are much more beat up than in photos. We'd also spent some time at the nearby VW dealership, and that was a comprehensive waste of time. This is a family run business, and for the most part the sales people were pretty nice. Sadly, the guy who we had been dealing with was out on the day we went to buy the car. The other guy was pretty nice - up until the end that was. I had done some extensive research on what would be a fair price for the car, and to give the deal a reasonable profit. When it came to negotiating, the guy became kind of negative, and we were ready to walk out. He eventually capitulated, and the price including taxes ended up being within just a few dollars of what I had predicted. *Except*, and here's the underhand part that we found distasteful - during the paperwork, they slipped in a security feature, for $200 without explaining what it was and how much it costs. This is a warning - when buying a car, check exactly your paperwork - there is a tendency to steam-roll you with very expensive warranties and things you have to sign. In the end, we got that money back, but for this reason, I can only give 3 stars. Overall though, we're pretty happy with the car itself. read more

I left my car for an oil change and a 40,000 mile inspection. After approving the quote for some other maintenance items, I was led to believe it would be ready later that day. Now it's been a week, with various excuses and poor communication. I don't know when I'll get my car back. read more

I purchased my Mazda 3 brand new last year (2016) from the previous location. My experience there was meh, but not terrible. As of 2017, I was informed my service location moved to this new dealership. My recent experiences here in short: terrible service, incompetent staff that does not follow through. I will not be taking my vehicle here unless it is necessary under warranty and I do not look forward to that... The long version: Three strikes; you're out. Just hung up with a man in the service department who was cranky, short, spoke over me, and in general sounded bothered by my call. He was belittling when I asked about the RECALL message I was sent in the mail. When I asked him to look up the details of recommended repair, as of my last service, he told me I wasn't in his system. It seems he just didn't want to look, because once I told him I had been serviced there in May, he quickly found me. I assume they are poorly trained, but even the nice lady who answered my call said she couldn't find the answer took my number to call me back. Three weeks later, no return call! My experience there in May for a routine service was not much better. I waited at the counter for a long time without any acknowledgement until finally I made eye contact, smiled, and said hello to someone who then told me he'd be with me shortly. It was at least ten minutes before someone actually greeted me. There were three people standing around behind the counter, but no one to help or acknowledge me as a paying customer. I understand sometimes we are busier than we look, but hello people, a simple yet warm hello goes a looong way in customer care. To the managers: Train your staff on customer care and relations. Teach them to acknowledge customers when they arrive, even if they cannot attend to the customer's needs in that moment, let them know eye contact and acknowledgement early on set the tone for customer relations. Teach them to be friendly so that paying customers feel cared for and want to continue service at your establishment. Train them to look the customer up before assuming they are not in the system. Teach them that follow through (as in return phone calls) goes a long way in building trust in the establishment. Train them to NEVER belittle a customer when they call about a SAFETY RECALL. read more

After having some serious issues with a different bay area Mazda dealership, we brought our 2016 CX-5 to Marin Mazda. There was a problem with our rear brakes that the other dealership was unable to help us solve. However, the folks at Marin Mazda found and fixed our problem very quickly and efficiently. They were friendly, professional and reliable. The experience was pleasant and refreshing. Even though we live closer to the other dealership, we now bring our CX-5 to Marin for our maintenance needs. read more

This is for their Service Department. I have a 2016 MX-5 (manual transmission) and had an issue with the transmission that left the car complete immobile. Luckily I used the roadside assistance that came with the car and got a tow to the shop after hours. Come Monday I get a call and a text message letting me know they already started working on it. Turns out it needed an entirely new transmission which they said would be covered under warranty! They managed to order a new one and have it installed in 4 days, super quick. The service staff really takes care of you, which is refreshing. I'll continue to go here and recommend my friends do the same. read more

The manager here, Emil, is terrible. He's demeaning and does not respect women. Only negotiated trade in price when my husband was there. Carmax offered $5000 for our vehicle and we were going to drive back to sf. He made snarky comments like "so to be clear, you're driving back to sf for $500?" It maybe a negligible amount to him but, for some that is significant. We ended up purchasing a new 2021 Honda Accord that day. Would not recommend this dealership to anyone. read more

Where to begin? First off, this Mazda dealership just moved from its previous location to this dealership, so there is the expected amounts of adjustments to figure in. But this review goes well beyond that! So, I dropped my new car off a little after 8am, for a regularly scheduled tune up. The guy behind the desk told me it would take about an hour and a half to complete. Unlike the last dealership location, there was no offer of a shuttle service to any nearby locations (so I could wait elsewhere). I figured it was a short time to wait, so no biggie. I walked to a nearby location to kill some time. I returned to the shop at 10am, to find my car still up on the lift. The guy said it would only be another 1/2 hour more. So I wait in the waiting area for another 2 1/2 hours. Finally I go to see what the hold up is. He says my car is ready....and proceeds to try and charge me close to $200 for the service. Did I mention I have a new car, and these services are covered by my warranty? He goes away for 5 minute to try and figure things out, comes back....and realizes he has the wrong invoice! Needless to say, I was pretty pissed! And no car wash (like the old location)! Word to the wise - take your servicing to another garage! These guys acted in a very unprofessional manner numerous times during my encounter with them! read more

I was always pleased with service at Marin Suburu/Mazda, but quite different experience at the new Mazda dealership! Nobody there to help when I drove in. When finally someone did help me it took forever just to do the preliminary paperwork. Manager blamed it on slow computers. I was told routine service would take about 2-2.5 hours, and that I could call or text anytime to get the status of the car. It actually took 4.25 hours to complete the work. During that time I left a voicemail and a text, and no one responded. The dealership does not have a shuttle, but they will call and pay for Uber. Because I could not reach anyone for an update or to call Uber for the return trip, I called and paid Uber myself. I did not experience rudeness that others have mentioned. But serious inefficiency. I will probably go to a different dealership for next service. read more

I bought my 2016 CX9 a little less than a year ago. It's been a great car, and I highly recommend it. Shortly after I bought the CX9, Marin Mazda took over the Mazda part of the previous Subaru/Mazda franchise. While the sales department has always been spot on, and the owner, Mike G., is very personable, in the beginning the service department was a bit lacking. I am happy to report that they have markedly improved. This past week, I had them do some work to upgrade the CX9's automatic climate control system, all handled under the Mazda warranty. The upgrade was extensive (parts alone ran $2,000), and there were some hiccups, however I commend the service department for sticking with it. AC/climate control is now operating as it should. Owner Mike G. got personally involved, and Service Manager Tom Johnston went out of his way to be helpful. Service technicians Jay and Mario exhibited great professionalism. Lily helped me secure a loaner car, for which I am grateful since it allowed me to take care of my daily tasks in an almost normal manner. I can now recommend Marin Mazda for new-car purchasers! They show every sign of becoming a fine dealership that offers excellent back-up service. read more

Great pre-owned car buying experience in San Rafael. Quick and painless, competitive prices. Wow, I'm definitely coming back here and would recommend this dealership to friends and family. I spotted a car I liked on the Marin Mazda's website, called them up and Geoffrey answered some brief pre-sales questions for me. I liked Geoffrey's approach, just the type of salesperson you want to deal with, friendly and helpful, no nonsense and great communication. I never got any kind of run around or pushiness from this dealership throughout the process. Within 10 minutes of arriving they set me up for an unattended test drive (which is a major plus, who wants a sales pitch or small talk when you are trying to get to know a car?). The car was in great condition, and shortly it came time to discuss the price. In the past I've purchased used cars at other (larger) dealerships, and that process in comparison was painful. After going to Marin Mazda, I don't think I'll ever go back to those dealerships that make you spend an entire afternoon haggling and declining extra products. At Marin Mazda, Geoffrey worked with me to make sure the purchase was right for me, answered questions and we settled the deal in no time. After signing the paperwork, I found I was in and out of the dealership in about an hour with a car in excellent condition for a competitive price, outstanding! I was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience which is very customer-focused. My experience was getting a used 2014 Ford Explorer (purchased at Marin Mazda) repaired on a part covered under an extended warranty contract. This was my first warranty claim and I was expecting a ton of friction getting the repair done by the service center and authorized by the extended warranty company. To my surprise, the experience was excellent and I would highly recommend Marin Mazda Service Center (ask for Michelle) to a friend or colleague. I rarely write reviews, but wanted to call out the amazing customer experience I had at the Marin Mazda Service Center. Would especially like to call out Michelle Martinez for her competence in her field of knowledge, and giving me, the customer, absolute confidence my repair issue would be fixed quickly, without any hassle, and fixed correctly the first time. Michelle also was excellent about providing me with timely updates while my car was in the shop. For those with Mazdas, I would highly recommend Marin Mazda Service Center. Be cautious buying from here!!! Just bought my wife a 2013 Cadillac SRX 3 days ago with only 23,000 mile and got a good deal on it. The buying experience went smoothly ( paper work was slow however ) not sure why, I have great credit and was even putting 5k down even though I didn't need to. #1 Vehicle was at 22% oil. The salesman told me all there cars go through a vigorous inspection....I've never bought a car that didn't have at least a fresh oil change... # 2 Tires are already due to be replaced and are almost bald. I didn't even notice till I brought in for an oil change ( see #1 ) #3 The battery went out today only had a charge of 12 volts. ( vigorous inspection would have found this ). #4 This is ridiculous :( When replacing the battery ($170) we found a BK fast food bag ( fire hazard) along with pieces of a hamburger bun and fries under the hood next to the bottom of the battery...wtf! Obviously there was never any inspection of any kind on this vehicle!!! I've purchased 3 used vehicles over last 5 years and each time they had oil, new battery, and newer tires if not brand new. I'm highly disappointed with this dealership. They act like since they are a "family run business" they really care...total BS. I just bought my daughter a car from Toyota One Oakland last Jan. and the sales experience was top notch and they actually inspect there vehicles before selling. I asked if the car was in stock. They said it was, and that I can definitely get it in a couple days. I verified this across two sales people at Marin. They called me and said the car had damage, and there were no other cars that I wanted in all of California, and I would have to wait a month. I found multiple other dealers with the exact car I wanted. I suppose they just really wanted to make the sale, but I did take a day off work to go to their dealer, and it all ended up falling through. read more

They forged my signature on 3 different documents and they are payment packers. Charging me two times for a pre-paid maintenance service I did not want in the first place. Who wants to pay $1395.00 for two oil changes. What scammers they added the price in on the car price and the raised my monthly payments to pay for it. I have never taken the time to share an opinion about a business that I've dealt with. My recent experience with Marin Mazda warrants it. I'm absolutely disgusted with the tactics and behavior of this business. We drove an hour and a half to view and hopefully purchase a high end used vehicle. We made the trip based on the description they posted on several sites to include KBB and Craig's List. The model type was completely misrepresented. One would assume that once brought to their attention, they would immediately pull the ad and correct it. That is not the case. I conclude that this is a regular practice of theirs and if they are willing to do that, there is no way I can be assured of anything they claim about any used vehicle they have for sale. read more

So I Bought a 2012Mazda 3 hatchback 2.5 back in late 2012 and paid well over MSRP.The car had at least over hundred miles on it. I was young and didn't know any better. Asked for OTD price and was bamboozled into paying an extra $500 so the salesman can get some commission. I could have gotten 2013 for way less. The finance guy at the time is a crook. Took my car for an oil change and 2 months later my car broke down. Later find out the oil change and inspection was never done. My car has been sitting in their lot for almost 2 weeks while they tell me I need to call Mazda to get things figured out. I call Mazda and am told they only talk to dealers, not customers. I call Marin Mazda who says they are waiting for Mazda to call them. So basically that means they are doing nothing for me. This is a work in progress. YES!!! I just finished purchasing a used car from these guys, and I couldn't be happier. Justin greeted me at the door, and was low key and lovely from the first word. I had asked to speak to someone else who works there, Emil, based on a recommendation from their used car sales guy, Tommy. Since I felt immediately comfortable with Justin, I told him I was fine to work with him, so off we went. I dragged poor patient Justin all over the lot, both literally and figuratively. He never seemed flustered or impatient, even as I asked him to explain several things more than once. I'm in sales, and I can tell the difference between someone who is artificially saying "no problem" and someone who genuinely means "no problem". Justin meant it when he said it. I never felt pressured. In fact at one point I think he could see that my head was about to pop off my shoulders, and he said "you know you can go home and sleep on it, talk to hubby..." I mean, WOW! Mike in finance was absolutely lovely, thoughtful, and extremely efficient. I had the pleasure of also meeting Emil and while I am very happy to have worked with Justin, I am sure Emil would have been just as solid. Then, since I couldn't figure out how I was going to drive 2 cars home and I really wanted the car to be in my driveway when my daughter got home, they offered to deliver it to me!!! I've never had this happen, even from Mercedes of Marin when I was buying my 4th car from them. (They're another story, and it's not good) The "delivery guy" was Justin, but he'd put a hat on so I had no idea it was him... I have also recommended a few people to buy cars there. No issues. They are straight shooters. They have the best pricing. I know, they have my car up and there isn't a cheaper one in CA. I had a few hiccups during my first oil change with confusion over my service agreement but Mike Glasser apologized for the confusion on behalf of Marin Mazda and made sure I stayed a satisfied customer. I came back yesterday for an oil change and had great service from Lilly and the technicians who provided me with a video inspection of my vehicle (link to video sent to my phone). Best car buying experience I have ever had. I had to go in because I was impressed that Mike G. responded to so many of the reviews, good or bad. The deal was details were clear up front and stayed consistent throughout. Sean was almost as excited about my 2019 MX-5 as I was and I felt like I was in control of the process. Above all, where I have spent 3 hours at a dealership just to buy the car which I have already settled on, the entire process at Marin Mazda took less then an hour of my time in which the actual visit to purchase the car only took 20 minutes. There are about four mikes here and none of them were any help besides them telling me to bring my car back from the east bay to them to "put the battery on correctly". DISAPPOINTING!!! *Less than 24hrs after my purchase my car's radio and speedometer started flickering. The radio would momentarily stop working for 20 secs and resume. Kinda scary for a first time car buyer *In the back seat part of the plastic window protector came out by the time I got back home from the dealership and glue was there solution before-hand. ALSO WHAT KIND OF DEALERSHIP SELLS A CAR WITH THE TAIL LIGHT NOT FITTED INTO PLACE. I knew before hand getting the car which I was in a rush to get but how can they do that and not offer any suggestions or help on getting a fix SMH SEAN was helping me during my first test drive and then left me and my mom alone for me to have no one to ask questions or anything. The taillight area had a previous accident but they kept pushing that there's no accident report. SAM was being pushy wit the insurance aspect after my refusal three times. And then he said that he can make it affordable. Which he did by making my PRINCIPAL PAYMENTS lower than what is was WITHOUT telling me. Now they think they going to gain more money and they got me for a longer term. It went from 22 months to 72 SMH x2. I too encountered the rude service manager at Marin Mazda today. not only did he respond to everything I said with some smart a** remark, they managed to not do what I went there to have done. when I scheduled the appointment I told two different people what I needed, yet when I got there, the employee who checked me in didn't know why I was there. she then brought in the service manager and everything went downhill after that. I told them I needed to leave by a certain time, sat there for almost two hours without anyone checking in with me despite the texts the py sent saying they would. when time ran out, I went to check on my car to find it sitting in the parking lot. i asked the service manager why no one let me know and he not only didn't answer the question, he said that at least he got me out of there on time. then come to find out they didn't fix the main reason for the appointment. one of the absolute worst experiences I've had when dealing with car repair businesses. read more

The most amazing thing happened today, all thanks to Lily at the Marin Mazda Service Department. Lily reached out recently to let me know that there was an open recall on my car that required service-- when I indicated that I couldn't find time to come in because of work, she arranged to have my car picked up at my place of employment and returned there a few hours later with the work complete! Not only that, she noticed that I had just purchased my car in October and that it was due for an oil change and tire rotation-- so Lily had that work completed as well, all complementary! If this isn't enough, they also washed my car before returning it to me. A shout out here to the driver Jimmy as well, he picked my car up on time in the morning, and returned it to the exact spot in the afternoon. All I can say is, this was extraordinary service! I tried to lease a car here, and they are not serious at all, first I got a deal with one person over the phone and then when I was gonna close the deal they completely change it and they said they never talked about that deal, it was ridiculous! And this guy was very rude his name is David and the price he was giving to us, was completely out of any reasonable price. Because of the reviews mentioning how rude Tom, the service manager, was my friend drove to Fremont for service and I was going to go Vallejo. I decided to try Marin Mazda deciding I would leave if I encountered a rude service manager. Life is too short to deal with rude people. What a pleasant surprise. I was greeted by a smiling Miguel who welcomed me to Marin Mazda. He took my information and sent me to a very nice person who wrote up my order and and ordered an Uber to take me home. Two hours later I received a text that my car was ready. My experience was 100% positive and I whole heartedly can recommend Marin Mazda. Maybe I was just lucky and the rude service manager had the day off, but I for sure will return to Marin Mazda and my friend will get his next service there read more
