Mark's Off Madison was good! I went during Passover and when I asked for matzoh instead of bread they brought matzoh to the table. It was so nice. I went with a friend and we ordered the Ultimate chopped salad to start. It was great but I didn't think it was worth $24. I ordered the Chicken Mattone which was delicious. They give you a large piece of chicken, I took half of it home. The vegetables were good, but a bit plain. Mark, the owner, came out which was very nice. He just said hello and stopped by. It was a nice touch, you don't see that often these days. We also saw a celebrity chef dine there so that must be a good sign. I'll have to go back and try the lasagna, it looks good. Just that salad needs to be more like $15! read more

I don't normally do this. But I wanted to write a review after reading a few negative ones from people .... because I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this restaurant! I have eaten at Mark's 3 times in the last 60 days & each time it was phenomenal! The food is absolutely delicious (I think I could live on the sliced bagels they give you as bread for the table!!) and the service /staff have always been so nice, welcoming & professional. They have consistently exceeded expectations in both food & service. It's truly one of my FAVORITE brunch places! Heck...I even have a rez to go AGAIN next weekend with friends that are visiting from out of town. It's one of my go-to brunch spots. I highly recommend it! read more

I was very excited to try this new place in the neighborhood! We ordered the bagel smoked fish platter. Unfortunately, there was parasite in the fish. I understand that this "could" happen in smoked fish. I was very calm about the situation. I told the manager that there was parasite in the fish. He came back and told me that it was the fish "skin" and its fine. I showed him photos of parasite in fish on google image. He said it happens and it is what it is and never apologized about it and just walked away. I left with a very disgusted feeling and disappointed with the way this manager handle the situation. He took the smoked fish off the bill but still charge us for coffee and fries. The waiter on the other hand was very nice and came to apologize to us. I hate to give this place a low rating as they just opened in this difficult time but the manager really needs to adjust his attitude. read more

Very poor service. The waiter was standing over us to order even though we had just sat down. There was little to no help in navigating the menu despite us saying this was our first time there and providing our dietary restrictions. We eventually felt so pressured we got pizza and a burger which were ok but definitely not what we would have gotten if we had adequate time and help to make a decision. Made a brunch reservation at Mark's off Madison by the acclaimed chef Mark Strausman with high expectations having frequently dined at Fred's at Barney's. Unfortunately we were all throughly disappointed, mostly by the food. We ordered the frittata which tasted like cardboard; we pretty much polished off a full shaker of salt. The Cesare pizza tasted like reheated frozen pizza, and the turkey club was extremely dry and served on burnt toast. Highlight of the meal was definitely the cocktails (Luke sky walker - very tasty and refreshing) and albeit the Mayo. Phenomenal. Admittedly the side of fries (for $10??!) and the chips were good too. We did alert our server regarding the meal and he was kind enough to send over 2 complementary cocktails, although not 3 for the 3 people at our table, apparently 2 was "all he could do at the moment". I visited Mark's Off Madison on a Wednesday at 1:30PM. It was quite crowded when we first arrived but that quickly dissipated. We ordered the truffle fries and calamari to start. The Piedmontese fries were good but a little bit soggy so I feel that they were a bit overhyped (all reviews say to try them above all else.) The calamari was a little off and arrived cold -- it wasn't crispy and battered but simply covered in what seemed to be a spice blend. We asked for lemon and it just never came, so we sent that back and didn't finish it. It seems like our first waiter was preoccupied, but he did come to ask why we sent the calamari back. The lasagna was quite good and large. I ordered the spicy spaghetti which was just.. okay. It wasn't anything to really write home about but also not horrible. It was fairly small for the high price tag, so I really was left wondering what I was paying so much for. We finished it off with the mango sorbet and our lovely waitress (who had switched off with our other waiter) brought us cookies for free. The cookies were not that great, just quite crispy and sweet. For all that, we ended up paying $95 per person (with tip included.) The ambiance is nice, spacious, and clean but I still couldn't understand where their prices were coming from. The staff were very nice though. I expected to be blown away but it was just... good. Have had dinner here several times. Just had Mark's Thanksgiving dinner and we all loved the turkey. It was very moist and the gravy delicious. The sides included cranberry sauce, sweet and mashed potatoes, sausage/ mushroom stuffing and Brussels sprouts. Dessert was pumpkin pie and apple pie. Both outstanding. On the regular menu I highly recommend the eggplant parm, lasagna, and the chicken. There are selections of both fresh and dry pasta. I especially like the spaghetti frutti di mare and the spaghetti Bolognese is one of the best Bolognese sauces I have ever had. Better than what I had in Italy. The breads are all homemade on premises, as are the bagels, and will blow you away. This is comfort food we all love. It is refreshing to have real food, and not this crazy, exotic strange combination food that seems to be in vogue now. Mark Strausman the chef knows how to cook and knows what people want to eat! SO happy this place is finally open. The space is great - both indoor and outdoor dining are clean and feel very safe. The setup is cool. The drinks are great. Great wine list, too. Tried a little bit of everything - latkes, pizza, pasta, fries, and they even brought us a chocolate cake dessert to try. Also LOVE that they have a special Hanukkah menu. I want to reaffirm my strong recommendation of this wonderful restaurant. I have dined there several times since my original review and it is consistently authentic and delivers in every way. Our server Sheikh could not have been friendlier and more helpful. The wine selections are well thought out and we're much enjoyed. The food is always great and there is so much to choose from. Last night we had their delicious crab cakes (almost all lump crabmeat and generous in size). This came with the popular fries. Also had the fettuccine with shrimp and lobster in Americaine sauce which was perfect. Started with the excellent Little Bib BLT salad. Unfortunately, no room for dessert! All around us, others had delicious looking pizzas, lasagna and other dishes. Chef Mark was nearby walking around the dining room and as always was a pleasure to chat with. We all as individuals can find something to complain about and I can say they were two incidents that made me annoyed with a certain employee actions. But im not going to let that employee make me give a bad review for his/her non thinking behavior. So with that being said, M.O.M. aka Marks off Madison is superb. The food was fresh and very flavorful. The service was up to par. They were very attentive, and the vibe is very laid-back. In which I like a lot. Been wanting to try this place for some time. Had the French dip for lunch today, and it was gross. Thick, fatty slices of roast beef on an oversized, and over chewy ciabatta. The serving was generous, but not flavorful. Instead of being served with au jus or a beef broth, it came with an under seasoned odd gravy. It was served with potato chips, and at $28 was overpriced. The best thing about the meal was the woman behind the bar that waited on me. She was delightful and gets five stars. read more

Sooooo overrated! Pizza was soggy and fell apart when we tried to pick it up. They better hope Dave Portnoy never shows up here! Told waitress and she just shrugged her shoulders. Burger just okay, not worth the price tag. Tuna melt was another mess. Rueben was good but way too much sauerkraut, again soggy. Chicken parm sandwich was enjoyed. Do NOT go late brunch time as we ordered deserts and they were out of 1/2 the items we chose. Staff abandoned ship at 2:30pm, new waiters arrived, couldn't care less and disappeared. All coffees and Capucino came out cold and we were told the machine was turned off. Grey haired manager sat at the counter the entire time on his laptop, never addressed one issue, barely mumbled goodbye to us on the way out. This place is surviving on past glory. None of us will go back and you should skip it. Too many places in NYC to waste your time and money here. read more

I've ordered in from Mark's off Madison several times and the food was very good. That being said I only ordered a salad so that's not saying much. I've since been to the restaurant several times and have left frustrated each time. The service is bad. It takes 10 minutes just to get tap water. My first time I left thinking not much of it but the service was mediocre. When going back two more times the service was again very bad. Not only was it bad but it proved to be consistently poor service. Most recently, I ordered the Nova platter which comes with three different cream cheeses, however, the waiter only brought one with my order. His response when I asked where the other two are was "sorry yes it comes with 3 but sometimes we'll just only bring one." Very odd. read more

First time at Marks off Madison, initially a very lively front house, with a Friendly host team. Even with a full house and a decent size party we were conveniently seated right at our reservation time frame. Our server had a fun energy, with that said they were a little fidgety (might be new to service!) We ordered a full course between appetizers and mains, their Belgium French fries and egg compagne were the stars of the afternoon. I hate writing these reviews but my dining experience here on Sunday was utterly attrocious. The waitress (or lack there of) was just horrible. She never put my egg order in and then when the other people I was with food came she then put it in. It eventually came out however wrong. I asked for scrambled eggs and got some sort of omelette. She barely apologized and was extremely rude about it. Manager came over and didn't understand what happened. They took the eggs off check as they should but whole experience was just terrible. Worst pepperoni pizza I've ever had in my life. The cheese was red, oily and liquid-y consistency.

While the food was decent and the atmosphere beautiful, there was such disappointment within my party due to the extremely slow and inattentive service. We had a birthday celebration with family members from different branches come. It took on average (we started timing it haha) 20-25 minutes for drinks to arrive, the waiter to ever come to our table, food to be ordered after having the waiter come and promise "he'll be right back." The food finally came about an hour and a half in and they got the order incorrectly so one member of the party was unable to eat until everyone else had finished. We had also given the birthday cake to the manager secretly before the meal and wanted it to be a surprise as is the norm. Yet, they made it very obvious the cake was coming by coming to our table to speak about it and put down desert silverware 20 minutes before the cake came. Overall, wanted to love this place so badly given I recommend Marks other establishments, but was highly disappointed and shall not be going back. read more

This is my new favorite restaurant in nyc. We had dinner outside last night. The food was amazing and unique, and the service was very attentive and friendly! The eggplant parmesan was the best we've ever had. We had sea bass and soft shell crabs for entrees, both were terrific. Each had wonderful sides and were prepared perfectly. While this is not an inexpensive restaurant, portions are large and shareable and this is a restaurant that is completely worth it! The macaroon profiteroles were beyond perfect. I would like to try everything on the menu. I can't think of another restaurant like this anywhere. We will be back as soon as we can! read more

FIRST TIMER, AND WOW!!! We are so happy to have this restaurant come to our neighborhood. The food was delivered perfectly, and every single bit was DELICIOUS.
