Went here around noon on a Saturday. The place was lively but two of us were still able to grab a table fairly quickly. The server came to take our drink order (cold brew black and a latte) and they kept checking on us even though we were not ready to order yet, which was really nice and attentive of them. We ended up ordering a French toast plate to share. It wasn't the best french toast ive had, it tasted a little bland and the bread felt hard but it was okay. Haven't been to a Marmalade Cafe in years so I decided to stop by for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. There's so much on the menu! I ordered the crispy short rib hash with gluten free bread and it was delicious! A bit pricey since there's not as much food but yummy nonetheless. Staff was very friendly and courteous, but short handed so it took a long time for the food to come. Definitely some shrink-flation going on. Portions are relatively small with no change in price. My sister and I decided to grab breakfast here before heading home to the Central Valley. We were seated right away and got our drink order quickly. We ordered and got our food in a timely fashion. Food looked amazing. The Gilson's scramble was amazing and our favorite dish out of the two that we ordered. The French toast was okay. My wife and I have typically dined out several times a week over many years. Throughout these many years we have never gotten up in disgust and left a restaurant without ordering. That is until our recent visit to Marmalade in El Segundo. We have also never left a negative review until now. We received an email from Marmalade advertising their Lobster Thursday offerings. Since we both love steamed lobsters we made a reservation by phone directly with the restaurant on the previous day, specifically requesting steamed lobsters for the two of us. The person taking the reservation confirmed our reservation as well as the order for two steamed lobsters. We received a confirmation by both email and text message confirming our reservation. When we arrived at Marmalade, the restaurant said they did not have our reservation or lobster request. Others were having lobsters in tables adjacent to ours, but the waiter said they were out of lobsters. We asked to see the manager and showed him our reservation confirmation. All he could say was that he was sorry and blamed it on a lack of communication with the chef. He encouraged us to order something else. We were obviously extremely disappointed and got up from our table and left the restaurant. We spent well over an hour driving to and from the restaurant only to go home totally dissatisfied. At 7:00 pm on this Thursday Marmalade was mostly empty, so there is no excuse for messing up our reservation and our advanced request for lobsters There is obviously a serious communication problem at Marmalade. It seem to me that Marmalade may be doing a bait and switch on their Thursday Lobster dinners, and only serving a very limited number of lobsters that cannot meet even the demand of a very limited number of diners. read more

We used to this restaurant, especially because of the great servers and interesting menu. Sadly menu hasn't changed much in years so it gets boring for regulars. We were regulars who used to go once every 2 weeks for breakfast or brunch. It's clean, pleasantly decorated (for every day eating but not special occasion fancy), and has ample parking. BUT the pricing has gotten way out of hand. They seem to constantly be raising prices on the same entree. Even with the coupon, comparatively it's still too expensive. Two people have to spend at least $45-$55 just for 2 simple breakfast entrees plus coffee, tax and tip. We've stopped going for that reason alone! Much too much for every day breakfast. read more

I've been to Marmalade maybe 5 times in the last two years. What I love most is the ambience. We like Ingrid, the nice bartender (can't recall his name) muscular arms and tats. And then there's that nice guy, running around in the mornings cleaning up. Truly dedicated employees who love what they do. I've had an issue with breakfast several times. My potatoes are never hot - taste like out of a bag out of the freezer. Inconsistent with how the food comes out - one time bagels were great; next time it seemed they were from the grocery store. I could understand when they charged if used a credit card, so I brought cash. The tipping point is when the owner decided to fleece the customers by charging 2.5% for all transactions! I've heard people say that they just deduct from the tip. So the server gets stiffed!!!! No - we're done with any restaurant that does this. Marmalade has how many restaurants? I never write bad reviews but this was the worst dining experience I have ever had at a restaurant. It was Mother's Day lunch and granted we had a reservation. We had a large party, 15, hence the reservation. Our entire party was present at the time of reservation but as we waited in line to check in, we were advised that our table inside the restaurant had been given away. Not our fault.. but because of it had to wait an additional 45 minutes for them to seat us at a janky table outside. When asked if we would still be waited on and served, they said yes. They continued to take walk ins while they were crazy behind on reservations and were severely understaffed. As soon as we sat down, we were told we'd only have 90 minutes to eat, which probably wouldn't have bothered me if we hadn't been waiting 30 minutes to order food. We waited almost two hours for our food. Water was never refilled. I got a pasta. The food was cold, the noodles had even turned hard and chewy from sitting out. The chicken was horrendously over cooked as you can see from the photo. The pregnant server was sweet and did her best to accommodate us but honestly this is the worst restaurant experience I've ever had and will not be coming back. Horribly understaffed considering probably one of the busiest weekends of the year. Felt bad for the servers. read more

Came in Sunday 7/30 afternoon during happy hour. Didn't get the name of the gentleman helping me just know time was 3:30 pm and he was working the bar as well as serving me. Looked online for happy hour weekend menus. Found marmalade cafe. Drinks for 7? I mean... you dont have to ask me twice! Lol Sweet potatoe fries and Philly sliders were a hit. We enjoyed the calamari. Tuna tartare was okay, I've had better. For the HH price it was worth it. Definitely wouldn't order it outside the happy hour menu. Service from our server was amazing. 100% very attentive. Our experience was nice. I'm not sure how this place is empty, maybe the location hurts it a bit because it deserves a little more love. It's not a place in my opinion for young people date or brunch. It's more of a place you take your mom and grandma for a quiet breakfast or lunch... OR the great happy hour prices on weekends from 3-6 because it's nearly impossible to find any restaurants that offer HH during the weekend. For that this place gets the 5th star. read more

If you look at my other reviews I'm not one to complain at all & all of my reviews are 4-5 stars so when I tell you I will never come back here & advise everyone not to waste your money here- please do NOT go. Ordered the crab cake Benedict and regret not getting a picture of the inside of the crab cake it wasn't cooked all the way, like literally raw and the poached eggs were really undercooked. (in my pic u can see the left yolk is about to pop and run, it's so undercooked) It was busy and don't like to complain so I ate around it (basically ate the potatoes and English muffin) When the waiter came to pick up the plates I told him about it (I just wanted him to tell the chef to be careful on his timing and not rush) & the waiter totally took it personal, snapped and told me that that's how poached eggs are made. I told him I've had lots of poached eggs before, these are worst ones I ever had. He didn't even address how raw the crab cakes looked, cut me off, snatched the plate away so aggressively I flinched. I told him please don't take it personal, it wasn't his fault, he didn't even cook it! He stormed away and he came back with the bill with a $10 deduction. I was trying to explain that how he reacted was unnecessary and he was brushing it off saying I got my deduction. It is not about money, I have money, it's the way he handled the situation. So, I asked for the manager - NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I ASKED FOR A MANAGER ! She came over and told me sorry that he gets like that sometimes. Ohhh so this is a reoccurring thing? Should've fired him the 1st time. She said she looked at the plate and she agreed and told them both it was undercooked. So why right after I see her go to her coworkers and say something & the coworkers start making faces and rolling their eyes, looking at me and smirking to the waiter I had etc. when I tell you I bit my tongue so hard... I used to work in retail for years & have tons of manager experience so I know the coworkers & managers just looking at me like a "Karen" when I know with my whole heart I didn't do anything wrong & they didn't even see the interaction. Then she came back with $10 gift certificate. Now why the hell would I come back here? The service and food was trash & really went downhill since last time I came. I will never be coming back again. What a pity. Could have been really good, but spoiled by lack of details and service. I ordered the waffles with bananas and berries, Mrs G ordered their chorizo and scrambled eggs (minus the chorizo). Mrs G's came out, Mexican in style and substance but lacking flavor and had to ask twice to get some salsa to remedy the situation. Mine in the other hand came out so late it was like we were eating in shifts. When mine did appear it was chicken and waffles (not what I ordered) and the waitress quickly said - " oh do you want the banana and berries on the side?" I've had good experiences here in the past but recently not so much. The place was packed, which is impressive for it being the only place standing on that side of the plaza in El Segundo. We sat outside on the lovely patio. Our server, unfortunately, was really inattentive and it took a long time to order, get drinks and the food. several servers stopped by bringing the wrong drinks/food. It was a busy time of day but our food took way too long to arrive (around 40 minutes). And then the food was pretty mediocre. My friend's grilled cheese was hardly melted and wasn't very good. Disappointing since I remember the food being pretty decent. We also had ordered a chocolate martini and an espresso martini and when the server brought it, she said she didn't know which one was which but could guess. She said she would go check and confirm but she never returned. Other than that, easy parking and easy to make a reservation. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I would first like to say this was my 2nd time coming to this particular location. The vanilla latte was very good. The breakfast...was horrible. We had our order of pancakes, eggs, and turkey sausage delivered to the table. The pancakes were undone and doughy...the waiter takes them back and brings another order out. The 2nd delivery of pancakes were again doughy...the waiter gets the manager on duty Terrain. She grabs the pancake and smashes it between her fingers and again says yes they are very doughy. She takes them back to the chef. She makes another set. The 3rd do-over comes to the table and this order of pancakes were doughy again for the 3rd time. Not sure what the issue was but needless to say I did not get to have any pancakes nor did my sister-in-law. The turkey sausage was horrible. It seems like it was more of an Italian sausage. It was nasty so the waiter brought regular bacon. So at the end of the day, all I had was a vanilla latte and egg and two strips of bacon because after all the back-and-forth, I wasn't hungry any longer. Do better...get another pancake mix or someone that can make pancakes the most basic item on a breakfast menu. The manager was kind enough to take the meals off our bill.
