Servers were nice though slightly slow towards the end. The food was good, but not exceptional. May have been my fault, but everything I chose seemed to have hazelnuts. Normally not a bad thing, but I finished my meal with a general feeling of having had good food that was a bit too salty (the sauces) and too many nuts. If the food wasn't so salty, I'd give this place 4 stars because everything was well cooked and good quality otherwise. I think I'd take this setting over The Studio in Laguna Beach. OMG. This place was amazing. Service was great, the view was beautiful, and the food definitely hit the spot. We ordered the country Charcutterie board, scallops, ribeye, broccolini, and banana pudding. All was to die for! The chicken liver and jam is delicious, and the English muffins they make are super fluffy and tasty. All in all, definitely a 5. We paid around $230 for 3, including tip. Pricey, so not a place to come to on the daily. The restaurant is located in Terranea, so you have to park next to the Casitas. I will be coming back to try the other restaurants as well. read more

Mar' Sel exceeded my expectation, that was the bottom line. This is the first time we come to upscale restaurant, and they know how to deal with 2 small kids. My kids are picky, and dinner usually the worse time to go out, but Daniel, our waitress timed their meal perfectly, got their food first, we feed them, then took out ours. Food was fantastic. Great restaurant one of the best in the Southbay with breathtaking view. Chef Bernard has out Down himself by using fresh ingredients from his garden and by creating a incredible menu. It is hard to have a favorite dish when everything tastes so great. Last night we had the beef Wellington which melt 's in your mouth and also the seafood stew with mole sauce which was incredible and it was a green mole sauce. You are paying for the view! Just wanted to make sure you could manage your expectations accordingly :) don't get me wrong.. the view is gorgeous and so is the food. The only way to justify $9 hash browns though is the stunning PV landscape. The inside of the restaurant felt a little dark and outdated - especially in comparison to the bright sea scape. But the outdoor seating is lovely! Our server was nice and attentive - they made sure to bring me lots of water - and the food was good. Considering what we were paying, I would have expected twice the portions and half the salt. My lobster salad was pretty skimpy on the meat and pistachios and was way over salted. I got the hash browns as a complement (and filler) and while they were good, they weren't worth the price. I would recommend going for a drink and maybe an app to catch sunset, walk around the grounds, and utilize the fire pit. If you go for brunch: have a snack first :) read more

Marsel is a beautiful restaurant with excellent views. It's everything people say it is but I was surprised at how good it was. Everything about the experience was top notch, to the fresh baked bread (amazing) to the sea salt. My wife and I had our "official" 3rd wedding anniversary dinner at Mar'sel. (We went to The Melting Pot on the actual date, but that was spur of the moment activity as we planned on coming here weeks in advance). We had the perfect dinner - outdoor table with an ocean view at sunset. My wife had the salmon, which she enjoyed. I feasted on their rib eye which I thought was excellent. Cooked at medium, it melts in your mouth as you savor every bite. The portion was quite big for a fancy restaurant. Paired it with a glass of Provenance Cabernet Sauvignon. The food did take a while to serve though as people who came after us got their food before. The staff was apologetic and gave us free desserts, which were also excellent. read more

My friends surprised me with an early birthday dinner at Mar'sel. The restaurant is mind blowing beautiful. Mar'sel is a high-end restaurant. The property is located on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific with lush gardens and ocean views that are truly extraordinary. The instant we arrived the staff attended to our every need. Bar service, wine selection, personalized printed menus, wait staff were polished and very professional. The food was delicious and perfectly prepared with some of the finest, freshest ingredients. Reservations are a MUST. We had dinner on a beautiful terrace perched above the sea! And the sunset was incredible like a painting. We had our own piece of Paris right there, on the pacific ocean, sipping on a very good Napa valley wine. They give you a spoonful of something delightful to cleanse your palette before you begin your meal and then they come with a trio of breads to choose from and then I was in heaven because I'm all about the bread! (Carb lover for Life) The bread baked in house was incredible. It was possibly the most delicious piece of bread I have ever eaten with butter and sea salt..to die for! The next time I am ordering a bottle of red wine a 2 baskets of bread for myself. Oink. The views from this restaurant were spectacular but the food was even better! We enjoyed our dinner at Mar'sel very much so. Our server couldn't have been better, she was enthusiastic, she knew the menu inside and out and her recommendations were spot on. I was with a group of 5, but there no problems you can expect a great meal and to be treated like royalty! We shared numerous plates. I'm pretty sure 3/4 of the menu went through our table that night. We started with the lobstor salad -a dazzling combination of flavors and the mussels-enormous and tasty. Our tasting menu moved on to the king trumpet muhrooms served with a creamy polenta , a rich opulent dish which once again featured subtle nuances of texture and flavor - it was sensational. Sauteed with lemon, olive oil from spain and some brussel sprouts. The Shrooms were tender yet crunchy. The lighlty grilled spanish octupus it was flawless. Charred on the outside, tender on the inside. Shaved truffle on light pasta, oysters on the half shell. I ordered the alaska halibut just for myself and it was luscious with a very light sauce which complemented the fish. It was fresh as can be and the presentation was beautiful. But what really hit the spot for me is their signature burger. I said goodbye to my vegan ass (I'm a part time vegan, I love vegan cuisine, and eat that way 80% of the time) but when I am craving a burger once a while it has to be high-quality and it has to be out of this world and their burger was damn good! That burger didn't stand a chance. 3...2....1 Rita attack baby! Their buns are baked in the kitchen, fresh. The beef patty, cooked medium- rare is at a sweet spot ratio of tallow and lean beef, made up their own special blend of beef cuts. The spread is vibrant with a touch of tart is also their own. It all comes together that grabs your senses and becomes engraved into your soul. It is not on the menu and you must ask for it. Mar'sel was supposed to have the best burger in LA and damn right it was! I would get that everytime if the other items were not so tempting. Ask for it, it is worth it! We also had a cheese platter, oh and the local uni was delicious! The food is highlighted by produce grown on site. The whole resort is covered in fragrant rosemary. We finished with wagyu beef which although off menu seduced our taste bud and satisfied our souls. We also had a lovely wine experience. Now I want to talk about the ecstasy of one dish in particular. The pea dish. I am obsessed with peas and I had to order it. The dish was a compilation of Burrata cheese with fresh english peas with their tendrils; a caress of reduced balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper,olive oil. It was garnished with a grilled herb ciabatta. Perfection. I have never tasted such pea-ness, pea rich flavor an eathy freshness, almost tasting of the soil (in a good way). The savor was so deep, intensely pea like. This simple dish was in its simplicity, anything but simple. it was complex, deep, primal in its connection to the earth. I was then surprised with a delicious dessert sampler which was shared by all (much more sophisticated than the waitstaff parading through the dining room singing 'happy birthday'! LOL). It was a magical evening. It was very calm and quiet just how I like it. We watched the orange moon rose from the horizon while we feast and it was beautiful. I would come back here in a second! Dined here a few days ago and had a lovely experience!! Starting from the warm and exceptional service to the food! Michael and Marco were so attentive and engaging. Michael helped me pick out a wine for the tomahawk pork by bringing me two lovely tastings of different wines. He was extremely helpful, funny and made our dining experience special! Located in the beautiful 5 star class resort with great view and nice decor, and It has a great potential to be the best restaurant in the area but the food was not that great for the price we paid as well as the service rendered by them. My wife requested a paper napkins a several times but they were never delivered. I live in the area near by and it was handy to go down and have a dinner but I rather go to Beverly Hills area for the fine dining. Tables were to cramped together and I could hear everyone's conversation. They offer gourmet dishes and they look like ones but the food taste did not reach my expectation. I could get the better food for half price I paid. Not that great wine selection either. This restaurant is more like for the tourist come to the resort who has no choice to go around the area since there are not that many nice restaurants. read more

Not sure what's behind all of these terrible reviews. Our experience was truly excellent. The reason I knocked off one star was because the food was very simple (pretty much things we can easily make at home) and our jidori fried chicken was entirely DARK meat which in no way justified its priciness. However, everything else was impeccable. The restaurant was kind enough to hold our table after getting stuck in traffic. The hostess was so sweet and friendly. Our server was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, honest when asked about recommendations, and constantly present--fixing and folding our napkins, replenishing drinks and water, easy to get a hold of, etc. We didn't feel rushed by him. He even asked if we were celebrating a special occasion and kindly remembered to bring a complimentary delicious dessert for my mom. What a gentleman! The management even greeted us on our way out. We started with the bread basket (breakfast sweets) and their salted biscuits w/cultured butter - all fabulous and the ocean view is the best. The waiter recommended an Omija Berry Blush herbal tea which had an unusual tart flavor; I liked it so much that I found it online and purchased it for myself.
