I had a fantastic dining experience here. I didn't know what to expect, since I've never heard of this place but my friend has been here many times. It's a small place, and i'm sure it's often overlooked if you aren't looking for it. I doubt people notice it just from driving by. Love the cans hanging above in the restarant. You'll see that I shared a photo of that. We were seated as soon as I walked in. We started off with with the muscles. Loved the flavor from the soup which I dipped every bite of bread into after I finished eating the muscles. Guess it can be described as a "light chower" with muscles. My main course was the chicken. I have to stress how AMAZING the chicken is. It doesn't look like a large serving size, but it's actaully a lot of chicken. The season and stuffing they use is just perfect. I made sure my friend had a bite of the chicken.....my mouth is watering as I write this review. I'm not sure what spices are at the center of the chicken, but they know how to make some GOOOD chicken. It's very juicy and tender. It takes some mad skills to make chicken like this. Our waitress was great. Gave us tips on what to order. Refilled my iced tea before i finished it up and checked back on us frequently. There's street parking. Marvin, I like you. I love your charming signage in front! From the outside, you look cute and modern. The inside, however, interesting and different. With aluminum cans lining the ceilings, colorful plates decorating the walls, and purposely worn-looking tables... as the new kid on the block, you're definitely making an artistic statement. Overall, I would describe Marvin as a casual and intimate wine bar, featuring French cuisine. Great for a date or girl's night out. The menu is made up of a variety of cheeses, small plates, large plates, and desserts. I would recommend ordering a bunch of things to share. My husband and I shared the following: - Wine: I don't even know the name of the wine I got. It wasn't on the menu and I just asked the waiter to recommend something that's light and sweet, similar to a Riesling. He brought out a new French wine they just got in, and to my surprise, it was also bubbly. A little on the dry side and reminded me of prosecco, and wasn't similar to Riesling in my opinion but I still enjoyed it. - Asparagus, Burrata, Fried Egg: Although I'm not a big fan of asparagus, I liked this dish. I love burrata and this one did not disappoint. Tasted great with the fried egg on top! A good mild starter. - Ratatouille on Toast: My husband really liked this dish. This one is great for sharing, and if you love ratatouille in general, you will like this. It came on top of goat cheese spread on soft and chewy toasted bread pieces. - Jamon Tomato Toast: I liked this toast dish better than the ratatouille one. The jamon is thin, slightly salty, and delicious. Went really well with the tomato and the toast. Another good dish for sharing. - Brussel Sprouts: they got the flavor right. It wasn't too salty or too bland and had the perfect amount of char. Although I wish the texture was a little less soggy, I still enjoyed this side. - Market Fish of the Day: Loup de Mer. YUM! So glad we got this! The fish was cooked to perfection. The skin was delightfully crispy and the meat of the fish was so soft and fleshy. It was salted just enough. Loved the flavor and texture! The creamy mashed potatoes it came with were perfect. The broccolini was just okay, pretty forgettable. But overall the best dish of the night. - Pot De Creme: My favorite of the 2 desserts we got. Mmmm I really liked this chocolate pot de creme. It also had caramel in it. Sweet and decadent, but not overly sweet. I savored every single rich and creamy bite. - Bread Pudding: I didn't really like this dessert. It's definitely not your average bread pudding (see pic) and not what I expected. It reminded me more of a brick toast dessert you'd get at an Asian cafe with mascarpone and syrup on the side. It was sweet and tasted okay but I wouldn't really recommend this one. Wow, a very solid neighborhood spot. Atmosphere is great and staff is friendly. The Caesar salad was executed perfectly and the burrata toast was next level - a perfect pairing of textures and flavors. The spicy vodka and cacio e pepe pastas were also amazing, no notes. They charge you 20 percent gratuity. Which is fine. But they do it before tax, so you have to pay tax on the gratuity.

This restaurant was an unexpected surprise after reading some of the negative reviews. Upon entering, I wondered if we were in the right place. It is an unassuming atmosphere that looks more like a West Hollywood bar complete with colored holiday lights strung on the ceiling and wait staff wearing T-shirts and jeans. The menu is lengthy and has something for everyone: meats, fish, pasta, vegetables, salads, even a burger and fries. Don't be fooled though. This is excellent French/Italian cuisine served in a casual atmosphere. Our party ordered the arugula salad, Caesar's salad, burrata toast, truffle fries, king salmon, and two pasta dishes. They were all excellent, perfectly seasoned and cooked generous portions. It definitely reminded me of the many wonderful French cafes in Paris that just always have delicious food. I only deducted 1 star because Marvin automatically adds a 20% service fee which does not include the tip. This service fee does not necessarily go to your waiter. Our waiter took the time to explain it but was not at liberty to tell us if or how much goes to staff. He was very kind and did not press for us to leave anything else but given his great attitude and service, we left an additional 20%. Came here for Saturday brunch yesterday with my toddler son before we headed to LACMA. Good: - it wasn't busy at all when we arrived at 11:30pm. Aside from us, there were only about 5-6 other tables that were occupied. - easy-to-get reservations via OpenTable - cheap metered street parking. I didn't get one right in front but just around the corner on Crescent Hts. - service was friendly & very accommodating towards my son - yummy salmon benedict (hollandaise was lemony and tangy, which was nice). The side of hash browns with an herby butter was also good. Bad: - the place itself is blah and the furniture are very basic (but who really cares) - the coffee was ok, not great - I had to ask for water 4x before it came In summary, we had a good and relaxed time and were out of there within 45 minutes (food came quickly and I was famished). I went to dinner tonight at Marvin in West Hollywood. Food was absolutely delicious. The bill was pricey, around 250 for 2 ,but figured with the experience, food, location, ambiance, etc it was worth it. I went to the bathroom which was connected to the kitchen, I came out and slipped badly, like super embarrassing. The floor was wet and oily from kitchen stuff and the table nearby was genuinely concerned and helped me up. As I looked back, the staff was laughing at me and then cowered into the kitchen..avoiding any acknowledgment of the situation. I have brusing on my knees. Idk why, but I feel really disturbed by it, especially since I left my server a 50 dollar tip prior to him laughing at me...maybe I'm sensitive , but what happened to human compassion and empathy..family says call a lawyer..... read more

My party of five had a reservation last night for 8:45 PM. We arrived a few minutes prior to the time of our reservation, and we were told to just wait for our table to become available. We were not told where to stand nor given a place to sit, but rather were told to just stand towards the front of the restaurant, which is where everyone is walking, servers are moving, and people are sitting down trying to enjoy their meals. We ended up waiting over 45 minutes for our table, for which we made a reservation days prior. While waiting, I continued to ask the servers what was going on, and nobody could tell me anything beyond they were still waiting for a table to be available. Eventually, we moved outside and sat in the cold. While there, the server continued to tell us that they were not sure when a table would be ready for us. When our table became available, the server came and told us to move inside. She did not help us move any of our things from our outdoor table to the indoor table. (We had ordered a bottle of wine during our extended, uncomfortable wait.) Once seated, about an hour after our reservation had started, we ordered food. The food was tasteless and not well-prepared. The server was incredibly rude during our meal, and did not properly serve the food and alcohol. When it came time to pay the bill, the server was not interested in talking to me about what happened prior to us being seated. She did remove 20% of the total off the bill, and then proceeded to throw the receipt and pens on the table for us to sign and complete the bill. I was extremely disappointed by the service, quality of food, and support staff at this restaurant. It was loud, overcrowded, and they clearly were not able to support as many people as they had. The bathrooms were not properly looked after and were a mess. There were was no assistance while waiting for our table, no host or hostess to direct us, and there was no place to wait. Heard a lot of positive reviews about Marvin so I was very excited to try the food there. Ambiance was ok, a dark and sort of small restaurant that offers outdoor seating. To be honest, I was disappointed w the food we ordered. Steak frites was a tad bad over cooked (asked for medium and came more well done ) and way too salty. We also got the spicy vodka and that too was salty which left the pasta tasting unbalanced. Roasted mushrooms seemed too acidic which and tasted like they were soaked in too much sauce/vinegar. Best dish of the night was the simple burata salad which was great and exactly as expected. Not a fan of mandatory 22% service fees and then a section on the bill to leave additional tip- restaurants need to leave tip /service fees to the discretion of the ppl dining in. Leaving three stars as opposed to 4 bec I think the restaurant is overpriced and would expect a higher quality, more tasty meal for the price point. Likely won't be dining here again. read more

I was on the fence with all the bad reviews but it turned out to be pretty good. One friend had the French onion soup and said it was a little too salty which was surprising since he over-salts everything. Too salty was one of the big complaints on Yelp! though so... I had the steak tartare and it was very good. So was the cacio e pepe. One person had the rigatoni with spicy vodka sauce and liked it and another had a chopped salad and some kinda chicken dish and he was happy too. And the service, which has bad reviews on Yelp! was just fine. On the down side there's only very limited street parking and the chairs are very uncomfortable. The huge drawback and why none of us will ever go back it the alcohol sitch. Wine only and with the most ludicrous, insane prices I've ever seen. The cheapest bottle was $72 for a $28 bottle of Valipocello. RIDICULOUS. I'd expect those prices at Providence or a Michelin star fine dining place but not a hole-in-the-wall-wanna-be-bistro on a traffic clogged LA street! read more

I used to love Marvin years back. Hadn't been since the pandemic and was concerned with a lot of recent reviews about bad service. I went with a large group a couple weeks ago though and thought it was great as always! We had almost all of the pastas, the chicken parm, the salami/ricotta toast, and a couple salads. Everything was delicious! And no issues with the service. The wine options are all a bit expensive (but the lower priced options were still great!), and they do add 20% automatically to the bill as some have complained about that.
