Ordered brew coffee as it is my to-go option. The coffee is just alright, standard level. It has a no acidic taste, which I like. It is not bold or overly bitter. To be honest, the coffee didn't surprise or amaze me. My dad tried the almond croissant, and it was average quality. The staffs were friendly and chilled. There's quite a line and busy, but the employees were still very welcoming and didn't rush to get the orders done (the employees' pace remained constant). The coffee shop has a nice interior design, but it is hard to find a table or a quiet spot to talk and enjoy the order because of the long waiting lines and crowds. Overall, the shop offers a standard level coffee and food. You can stop by if you are in the area.

Matchstick manages to maintain high quality across all Vancouver locations.  The atmosphere was clean and modern.  I like the place's natural lighting and the wood furniture's stylish warmth. I got a Masala Chai Latte.  The drinks only serve one size cup here, and it seems a bit small, but everything is worth it.  It tasted amazing, and the latte art was beautiful.  Also, they don't charge for substituting oat milk for dairy. Drink & Food: 4/5 Should Try! Service: ‍‍‍‍‍5/5 Kids: 3/5 Price: $5.99 Surprise Bag ($18.00 value; I received four different favour croissants) Presentation: 2/5 Parking: Paid street parking Tips: * has vegan and gluten-free pastries. * has indoor and outdoor seating. Would I Return: Yes ‍

It's fine. The salmon toast was underwhelming (most places serve salmon toast with avocado, but this place doesn't and charges $18 for it). The mushroom toast was better. Service was unfriendly but coffee was decent.

This place has grown on me over the past few visits. The interior is decked out in a color palette of Instagram-approved dusty rose and teal, with a mix of community tables and individual seats. On my first trip I ordered a chai with their house made oat milk, which was adequate, but for $5+ didn't match the spicy creaminess of my favorite chai in the city (from Rocanini on Beatty Street). However the food that I sampled was quite good--a beautiful cardamom cinnamon bun that could've been straight out of Stockholm, a delicious tomato soup that managed to be both vegan and not overly acidic, and a fresh hummus and carrot combo. Counter staff seemed to vary in terms of chattiness and warmth, but in general made the ordering experience efficient, and demonstrated their knowledge of the menu. I would choose Matchstick any day over some of its more corporate international competitors that seem to bloom on every street corner...

I've been here a couple of times now since they opened, in different contexts - sometimes to sit down, sometimes just to grab something to go; sometimes getting something sweet, other times something savoury. Much as I was excited to see a new coffee shop open up near where I live, I have to say that Matchstick feels just okay. Nothing stands out - the drinks (from chai lattes to mochas to london fogs and more) are all okay, avoiding the pitfalls of excessive sugar but also not having much flavour to them. They don't do multiple sizes but the cup sizes are small, which I appreciate, though they're priced more like large drinks at other shops. The baked goods are fine, nothing memorable. Everything is a little bit pricier than I'd like to pay for the taste, though - I'd rather go somewhere cheaper and simpler, or somewhere fancy where the quality really matches the pricetag. The physical environment itself is also not great for staying, unless you're in a group. It's dominated by communal tables, which makes for fairly uncomfortable seating if you're looking to sit down with somebody one-on-one, or if you're looking to do some work or studying on your own. And there aren't many outlets, or if there are they aren't very visible. The decor is all very nice, though, you have to give them that. And so far most of the staff have been very friendly and nice. But in terms of the food, drinks, and the experience of sitting there, I feel like I gave it a fair shot, and I'm not tempted to go back when there are other coffee shops just down the block.

Excited to see a new coffee shop opening in the west end!! I'm always looking for a a bit of a stroll with a caffeine destination on my lunch break and I'm pleased that matchstick is here for me. I've definitely had their coffee from other cafes that serve it and I've been to their other locations. I'd say that their staff was quite knowledgeable and experienced on my first visit. The space is bright and quiet. Right on the first level of a new residential building in the west end. I was excited to see earl grey muffins in their selections of pastries! Definitely a pick me up treat that we all need in our lives! And they don't use muffin cups There's a selection of lunch items and loaves of bread in addition to their beverage offerings. Will be back

The aesthetics of the store is great! Lovely brand logo too! The coffee is okay. I'm not a fan of coffee with the sour after taste, however the beans used were quite rich in scent and flavour.

Service was good, friendly. The restaurant is the same as I recall, clean enough. A little cramped and the seating isnt too comfortable. Its really not a good place to hang out for a long time, but rather sit down, eat, and get out type of place. I had the lavender latte and the Tagine this time. Ive had it before and at least its pretty consistent. Ive tried several other things on their menu in the past too, all pretty solid 4/5. Nothing standout as so amazing to deserve 5 stars, but consistent and tasty. I did have a reservation which they charge $10/person for, purely for donation to a charity and does not contribute to your meal at all, and also nonrefundable. While I find this somewhat annoying, I dont blame them for doing this from a business standpoint. They always have a lineup so there is no shortage of customers for them. There is no reason they need to deal with the headache of a ton of reservations. On the flip side, they honoured my reservation in a very timely fashion and I bypassed the line, so props to them for doing that part right. If you have to park, then you may find street metered parking or use one of the nearby paid lots.

I find that even though I am back home now, I still think about having that breakfast poutine. It was a nice mix of sweet, spicy, and savory between the roasted pineapple, charred tomato salsa, pickled jalapeños, and salsa verde. The bacon and potatoes were nice and crispy too! Not only will you find the best food here, but the views are unmatched too. If you get there early, you can enjoy your breakfast by the window or on the patio overlooking the marina. I was meeting a friend here yesterday who's visiting from California, and when deciding on a meeting place, we realized a bunch of the Gastown coffee roaster places were closed on Sunday, so I mentioned Breka , knowing it was opened 24/7. (LOVE this!). Plus, this site is close to Waterfront Station, and my friend had a busy day planned, taking the Seabus to N.Van and doing a lot of sightseeing. So this Breka was perfect. I was there early at 10 am-ish, and from the outset, I was impressed: exposed brick wall, long counter and display case, fully stocked with the most beautiful pastries and tarts and cakes, and lovely looking sandwiches, too....Just lovely. I ordered a tea from the guy taking the orders. At the check-out, the woman working the cashier was the most unfriendly, aloof person I have ever encountered at a Breka. She was downright dour. Never looked up, never smiled, said I owed X for the tea I ordered, gave me a receipt and said I was "number 3", no "thank you" (despite my saying thanks!), nothing. She looked really unhappy and bothered to be there. (I sat at a nearby table, waiting for my number to be called. I saw her interactions with all the people behind me - and there were quite a few, as it got suddenly busy in the cafe. She was cold and unfriendly to everyone in line as she rang them all up. These are mostly tourists! Why have a dour, borderline-hostile woman at the check-out counter of a busy cafe in a touristy part of our city? I just don't get it). Anyhow, I waited 10 minutes to hear my number called, but I never heard it. I walked up to the take-out area and there was my tea, on a receipt that said "number 3". Did they call out my number? I honestly don't know. I was seated at a table a few feet from the area and listening for my number and I didn't hear it called. I was not impressed with this set-up. Not at all. My friend arrived and got a chocolate concoction which looked amazing, and he loved it, so there's that. I still love Brekas but I probably won't return to this site. Between the cold experience at the cash and the prolonged waiting for my order (a cup of tea!), and not being sure if my order number was ever called, it just all left me with a bitter taste in my mouth.

We were having gorgeous weather in Vancouver so we decided to eat on the covered patio. The place is pretty cozy, but was only moderately busy when we went. They have a pretty good menu with lots a Benedict's and a build your own breakfast option that seemed pretty nice. I took the recommendation from our server and got the bacon benny. It did not disappoint. I think I have recently discovered that I love poached eggs and these were perfect. The yolk was nice and runny and the white was firm but not hard. I like to cut in to my egg and have it run down and get messy on the plate. The hollandaise was excellent. So many breakfast places will serve it broken, but not here. It had the perfect amount of lemon, butter ratio for my taste and I really enjoyed it. The bacon was good, not to salty, and the english muffin was, well, an English muffin from a package that they toasted and out on the plate. I did splurge and paid the extra dollar for the truffle potatoes and they were very good. I love truffle oil on potatoes so I am a sucker for it whenever its on a menu. You just cant mess it up. Fried potatoes, truffle oil, and a lemon squeeze to bring it all together. My wife got the brunch burger and she loved it. It was a messy breakfast burger that a lot of places have but this one was done right. A poached oozy egg, on a burger patty with american cheese, the best burger cheese in my opinion, bacon, hollandaise and arugula on a brioche bun! It came with tater tots and they were nice and crispy just like she likes them. Well, why didn't I give it five stars you may be asking? Great question. Here it is, each plate came with a side that was just awful. Mine had some "fresh" fruit that nearly made me laugh. It consisted of the saddest, limpest piece of watermelon I have ever seen this side of a trash can. I also had an old crusty orange wedge and a single grape. My wife got a slimy side salad that I think was holding on for dear life. Both, we deemed inedible and moved on immediately. I think there is a rule, or at least there should be one, in restaurants that if you wouldn't eat it then don't serve it. There might be another one that says if you eat rotten food maybe get a different job and see rule one. Overall, we liked the place and would go back. We would just avoid the salads and fresh fruit and stick to the food they cook.
