So, I read y'all reviews. I went for it. Worth it. Ordered the kalbi short rib plate with Mac/greens/rice and a side of beef rib. This is what I would recommend people. The plates are around $20, and the extra rib (totally worth it) was an extra $3 and change. Get and stuff your face. Thank goodness I put my order for pick up because when I got there, a line of like people was already in play. Plus I saw a few more people come thru after my pick up. The place is definitely a small mom and pop tucked in a corner of a small shopping center and with tables from back in the day. Nothing extra ordinary with the service but I was not there long enough to really asses. I walked to the front of the line and a nice lady asked me my name and handed me my food. The food: Kalbi short ribs DO NOT DISAPPOINT. Freaking tender, meaty and perfectly marinated and moist. Beef Rib please read previous assessment of the kalbi, same for this. Big ol'beef ribs given. 5+ stars. The macaroni salad, I did not mind. I think they really review what people say cause I found it pretty good. I still prefer Ono Hawaiian Mac salad, but this one was not bad. It's Mac and potato by the way. The rice, was well cooked, not sticky as I had read in previous reviews and not dry. Again pretty decent. The green salad, a little wilted, but still enjoyable. Lightly dressed with I'm guessing their shoyu dressing which I enjoyed. Bruh, come and eat the ribs tho. Wow this was surprisingly good food!!! Located on Lincoln (cross street is Beach Blvd) the restaurant is tucked into a strip mall so pay attention as you approach. Walked in and was greeted by a friendly lady at the counter who helped me make my choices. I decided on the big kahuna family meal and a beef rib plate. Big kahuna - 5 stars. I couldn't tell by looking at the pictures, but this can feed 3 adults or 2 adults/2 children easy. The chicken, beef, and especially the short rib was delicious, and there was plenty of food to go around. I found myself wanting more of the macaroni salad and less rice, but it was all good. At $39 this is a solid deal and I would definitely order this again. Beef rib plate -- 3-4 stars. If you are a fan of beef ribs then this plate is for you. You get 4 ribs, Mac salad and rice, and portion wise, this is a good deal for the price. For me I thought the ribs were a little too fatty for me, but if you are a fan, this is for you. Happy that my cousin suggested we stop here on our drive down from LA because this is some of the best Hawaiian bbq I've had! What we ordered: * beef rib plate * kalbi plate The meat just fell off the beef rib bones, and both were so deliciously marinated. The portions are generous and good to share or to have leftovers afterwards! Nothing but aloha for Matiki's!! My fave Hawaiian restaurant--it's authentic and the absolute best! Don't order too late or they'll skimp on portions. And they won't have musubi :( That being said, I ordered the kalbi plate, no rice with double Mac. SOOOO good! Even though the meat was obvs a little old-ish (as in precooked in a large batch and left heated so it was a little dry), but it's SOO tender and flavorful that I was literally sucking the meat off the bones sooooo....yeah take that as you will, haha. My advice: get there fairly early to order and you won't be disappointed. Ever. Everything I've ever ordered is normally and always juicy and beyond delicious. But like I said, if getting you're an hour before closing, definitely expect an ever so slightly "lighter"portion (but I generally feel like that's to be expected so that makes sense to me and remain untroubled haha). Is the food still 10/10? Absolutely. This is the best Hawaiian food on the mainland--easy. Get extra Mac and teriyaki(??) sauce. Not sure why all the raving reviews because I'm so disappointed !!! I ordered the #1 rib bones and #2 kalbi and it was DRY AF!! Not sure if I got a bad batch but I could barely even chew it. It tasted like jerky my boyfriend took a bite and also immediately said pass. It wasn't fall off the bone or melty at all. For kalbi, this is probably my least favorite order I've had. It wasn't fatty or soft at all. I honestly had better even from Trader Joe's frozen section again, hoping just a one off where mine got overcooked. But we didn't even finish them sadly. Came here on a recommendation from a friend and was not disappointed. Loma greeted me at the front and helped me with my order. She was very sweet and helpful, which I appreciated as this was my first time here and first impressions are everything. I ordered the #2 which is the short ribs and she told me the macaroni was "best in the world", which I joked with her was a high bar to set. I decided to get extra meat for $4 as I was pretty hungry, so the picture attached to this review included the extra meat portion. The place was pretty busy, but my food came out fresh in about 15 minutes which was a reasonable wait time. As for the food, the short ribs were definitely the star of the show followed by the macaroni. The short ribs were very flavorful and cooked well, but my only complaint would be that a good amount of what you get is just bone and fat. Thankfully, I ordered extra meat so I was able to get plenty of meat from all of the bones after picking through the fat. I'd recommend ordering extra meat if you're getting the #1 or #2. The macaroni was really good with a hint of sweetness, which contrasted the rich and savory flavor profile of the short ribs. The rice was decent and the sauce was okay, but was sort of watery and lacking in terms of flavor. Overall, an enjoyable meal at an okay price. Our food came out relatively quickly, but I was shocked to see the constant foot traffic to the restaurant. I ordered the Sam's Plate and a spam musubi as a treat. When I tell you, the meat was practically falling off the bone. It was tasty, and of course, very messy - bring wipes! I went in expecting a lot seeing this business on all my socials and let me start off by say nothing was bad. I ordered the beef rib plate and my wife ordered the bulgogi and beef plate. Her plate was cool the pieces she got were a little more fat then meat, but all her meat had the same teriyaki flavor so it was really one note. My beef ribs were season to perfection had some sweet notes and savory notes chard and delicious I got one rib that was significantly more fat then meat.
