They're making some good BBQ in Portland. We were visiting Portland and stopped by Matt's for lunch. The food truck is located in a cluster of other trucks at Prost! bar. We placed our order via an electronic kiosk and ate at one of the communal picnic benches. We ordered pork ribs, brisket, and beef and cheese and jalapeno sausages. All were cooked in Texas style and well prepared. Parking is on neighborhood streets.

My first experience at a Portland food truck. I've heard a lot about the food truck scene in Portland so I was very excited to try. This place was amazing! The ribs were tender, and fell off the bone. The burnt ends were so flavorful. The brisket wasn't dry and sooo sooo tender. They have so many different sauces to choose from as well. The portions were great for the price. Super fast service on a weekend as well. Will definitely be back when I find myself in Portland again!

No bias. This is my absolute favorite bbq spot in Portland. The briskets are my favorite. I recently tried the brisket bbq sandwich and it was stuffed! Brisket proteins render and juicy. Pickled veggies and cabbage. All the sauces were so good! Cherry chipotle was my favorite and second was the hog vinegar! Definitely should give it a try. You can order online for pick up or arrive and order at the kiosk. There is an estimated wait time counter in front of the cart!

Stopped at this food cart at Prost as people have been talking about this bbq. This place has the staple bbq items: I learned if your heart is set in your favorites order in advance as thus joint runs out before they even open. So I ordered some alternative items and pleased with my second choices. I ordered chopped brisket sandwich and Mac and cheese. The Mac was a good deal at five dollars: rich and super filling with some kick. The brisket chop sandwich was tummy; meat was super moist and not fatty. The BBQ joint also offers four sauces: two mustards, vinegar and sweet bbq. Pro tip: order your food in the morning as cut meats sell out. Worth a visit!

Solid food, quick service, chill setting... cost too much for what you get. I'd for sure get it again but the pricing was just high in my opinion for the amount of brisket on the sando or the 1/2 pound of brisket. No real complaints, most places cost a lot now.

Crazy good BBQ, super fast service, lots of seating in the pod, order-at-kiosk. What's not to like? Next time I'm looking for some BBQ I know where to go!

So I've been here a few times over the last couple of years, and I gotta say that it's progressively gotten better versus the first time. Hence why I never reviewed this place with the first visit. Here's the latest with Matt's BBQ: = Location | Parking = Along the mighty Mississippi Ave, and within a food pod corner of Skidmore, you will find Matt's BBQ along with other tasty carts. I didn't notice any Parking Kitty signs along the street, but did notice bus stops, 30 minute, and 2 hour parking signs. So be mindful of where you park. = The Q = Previous orders... A late afternoon visit and ate at the patio: ~ Chopped Brisket Sandwich ($13.00) and a NC Style Pulled Pork Sandwich ($12.00) with Potato Salad (1/2 pint $3.50). Messy at first, but what pulled pork or brisket sandwich isn't? Maybe it's the slaw. I'm picky about this and don't necessarily like the slaw juices soaking up the bread. But still, the meat in itself was smokey and flavorful. Would I order these again? Probably, but it's the "I need a fork" situation. As for the potato salad, I'll just say their's definitely is a lot of chunky potato cuts, and drier than I expected. More recent order... Got there right when they opened and was the first customer that ordered: ~ Brisket Cuts and Pulled Pork, with two Sides Combo Plate! This time with the sides, I went with the Pinto Beans (1/2 Pint) and Queso Mac and Cheese (+$0.50). Total for the combo $36.50. Now this I took home. I actually raced to get home to eat it right away too. When I got home, the meat cooled, so I threw it in the oven for a few minutes to warm it all up. And maaaan, I gotta tell ya! Both the fatty and lean brisket slices were SPOT ON with smokiness, smoke ring, smell, and taste! So tender, so good, so savory! The pulled pork as well, you can smell the smokiness and it was just greasy fatty goodness! As for the pinto beans, I liked it. They went well with everything really. The queso mac'n'cheese was also tasty. So would I order this combo again? Highly likely! I enjoyed it! = Service and Overall = I can't say that I've interacted with the guys working there, but I haven't had any negative ordering experiences either. Overall to me, their Q stands out versus others in the area, but especially after my last visit. If anything, I'd just recommend going there right when they open. Right when the Q is ready to be served ;) That's how it's done son!

Overall I would say Matt's BBQ was solid Texas style bbq. The food cart picnic tables had a good vibe and turned over quickly. Super nice on a sunny pdx fall day! We had the brisket burnt ends, spare ribs, potato salad and queso mac & cheese. The pickled veg and mac and cheese were my favorite bites. I felt like the burnt ends even though they were tasty had too much bbq sauce and the ribs were a bit tough. Portion size on everything was surprisingly huge.

It's not much of a secret that Matt knows his BBQ. Matt has learned the trait to a T. There isn't too many elite BBQ options in Portland, but here's one of them without a doubt. Maybe the best? This place could thrive anywhere in the country. It's legit legit. Between Matt's BBQ Tacos and Matt's BBQ, I've tried a little of everything. There are no misses when it comes to the protein options. Even the BBQ sauces were above and behind. Absolutely terrible potato salad though. No one is coming for that though. Matt's is as good as advertised. (4.8 Stars)

Can I get Matt to the front of the line pleeeaasseeee!!! Matt, if you're in the kitchen friend, hello how are you? Lol I've been mad that every time I come to your place of establishment you're always sold out but today!!!!!!!! Lol I understand why you're always sold out. The flavors, the smokiness, the beans, the potato salad, the sauces, the mannnnn!!!! Yess this is what barbecue is suppose to taste like. This is what food is suppose to taste like. And the cost of all this too??? Wow... amazing Matt you outdid yourself

This entire food pod is a whole vibe. Me and a friend came here two days in a row during our trip to Portland. On our first visit, I connected with a food truck owner from my home state, and my friend and I also met a couple visiting from Florida. We ended up talking to that couple for close to three hours; they had ordered brisket from Matt's BBQ and insisted that we have some. My friend and I had a few small bites, and we were both so completely blown away by those samples that we came back for dinner the next day. I ordered chopped brisket for my meal and my friend ordered sliced brisket. Sho' nuff, Matt's BBQ handily delivered on flavor and quality once again the next day, and every single thing on my barbecue tray was absolutely delicious! This was honestly the best brisket I've had since my first trip to Austin, TX almost eight years ago. If it matters to you, Matt's BBQ is one of the restaurants that Phil Rosenthal ate at during the Portland episode of Somebody Feed Phil.

This food truck bbq meal tastes just as good as any non food truck. We shared ribs, a pulled pork sandwich, Mac n cheese. There was also unlimited use to sauces, bbq, spicy, mustard. Definitely try them all, the ribs were my highlight as they completely fell off the bone

    Iris H.

Best pork spare ribs ever!! This is by far my favorite pork ribs I have ever tried among all the bbq. It's not overly chewy; it's tender, falling of the bone, has enough cartilage and has a dry semi-crispy outer skin. Their queso Mac and cheese is also very delicious. It's very cheesy, a little liquidy and has a bit of spicy kick. Cole slaw is refreshing as a nice side to pair with the meats.

As…read moreyou walk up they have a very large outdoor seating area for at least 80 people, the main entrance has Podnah's name posted within a rustic building. The building is a very casual place, as you walk in the friendly staff greet you and ask you to take a seat wherever you like. We decided to sit in the backside of the building it is a very peaceful section by the kitchen, you can smell the amazing smokey scent of the bbq from there. The walls are covered black and white cowboy pictures. As someone mention in their review, parking is a little challenging but we found parking in the neighborhood within 5 min. The Menu is simple and to the point, one page is drinks the other page is the BBQ, We shared the Pit Boss Platter, you will find that it feeds 2-3, you get a 1/4 pound of brisket and pulled pork, 2 pork ribs, 1 link (very good size) cornbread and your choice of 2 sides, we choose the collard greens and the the green chile mac and cheese. Everything was amazing. It was plenty for the two of us that shared it, we actually took some of it home, I also tied in the pickles, the are served with pickled onions and jalapeños (yummy). The BBQ flavor was amazing, nice and smoky , great smoke rings, they table drop in three different sauces, a vinegar oil, a surprisingly tasty mustard sauce and their house bbq sauce, they are all great tasting. My son ordered the 2 meat plate, he loved the Brisket and Ribs, he also tried the Pinto beans with Brisket, they were very tasty. Overall Podnah's lived up to the hype. If you are in the area its worth a try.

Honestly, I'm totally fine with restaurants making the food pricier to make up for costs, but adding a huge mandatory tip is a iffy. There are plenty of really good bbq places in the area that will give you comparable food without that. Neither myself or anyone in my party will be going back while this is still present, sadly.

So we went in the middle of the afternoon but the line was still pretty long. They were nice enough to let us sit at tables they weren't waiting on while we waited. The restaurant has a jungle vibe, a real Southeast Asian feel. It's fun and lively. The waitstaff are pleasant, albeit not super friendly but maybe that's the vibe they're going for. We got the fried chicken, the wok fried yu choy, smoked pork krapao, white curry with brisket, and red curry with veggies. We also got a bunch of drinks. It's fun to have a place that puts just as much effort into their non alcoholic drinks as their alcoholic drinks. Strongly recommend you try something while you're here. Everything was great but if I had to pick my two favorites, it was the fried chicken and the white curry. I was worried the fried chicken would be too sweet but it's very well balanced. Not overly sweet or sour, very crispy and the meat was tender and juicy. For some reason I thought they would bones in them but they didn't. It was clearly the table favorite as it was gone pretty quick. The white curry was a great example of how this mashup of two cuisines work well together. The white curry is a mellow flavor and almost acts like a thin gravy to the well smoked brisket. I have high standards for brisket and whether this would hold up on its own is a question but it certainly worked well in this context. That's not to say the rest wasn't good. I think I liked the pork more than others but the stronger Thai flavors was not as big of a hit as the rest. That said, the fried egg was perfect and paired with the juicy pork belly that was so tender and rich. The red curry was delicious although the choice of veggies was not my favorite. The yu choy was good, if not a little ordinary. Some may not like the bitterness of the yu choy but I thought it added a little complexity to the flavors. All in all, we loved it here and will definitely come back if in Portland again.
