So this review is long overdue. There is so much love towards Maui Rose from me. This small establishment has really come through over the years in the quality and consistency of their food. Sure, it's no high end sushi joint, but the food the cook in the back whips up is hands down some of the best I have had... it's like comfort food. Let me tell you, I first had an Unagi don (eel bowl) here like 5-6 years ago and it completely changed my life. It was large, cheap, and truly euphoric experience. I mean, some might agree with me... some might not. Ever since then I have been to various "Japanese" restaurants in search for a good unagi don in par to the one I have had at Maui Rose. No other restaurant in Southern California has met that level of excellence apparently lol. I don't know. I have a strong connection to this small hole in the wall... maybe because it's been a part of the community for years or because they continue to strive to be a successful business as one of the few restaurants we have around here. My mouth is watering as I write this! Also, my girlfriend and I got catering from them for our baby shower in June and it was delicious!!! Hands down some of the best catering I have had. It was on time, fresh, and all my guests loved the food. They kept asking me where I placed the order. I got the mixed meats, came with pork Katsu, chicken, beef teriyaki. The sides were plentiful and the California rolls we got were on point! Would definitely get catering from them again and they helped make our party a blast!!! read more

I was first introduced to maui rose by my bf, at first when he said we are having tiger rolls for dinner.. I thought.. 'eww, sushi??' But I tried it, and now I love it. I'm not a big fan of different cultures food, I'm mexican, but this little joint is so delicious.. everything I have tried I have liked so far. And the people there are friendly too. It may take a few mins to get our food but its worth it, I know they're making my meal look and taste really yummy. I have been here multiple times, whether in the restaurant or had delivery. The tempura tofu blocks are drizzled with terriyaki, and they're awesome. When I feel like tofu, I crave this stuff. Last week, I went in with a friend that requested them to put the tofu on top of the fried rice...not that hard, right? We got a long blank stare from the cashier. Thinking it was a language barrier issue, we both began trying to explain what she wanted...another long blank stare, followed by, "No. That's too much work" Hahahah, way to please the customer. I kept seeing this place driving up and down Magnolia and finally decided to try it. The first thing my girlfriend noticed while parking was the filthy windows, they were covered in hand prints and it was a big turn off for her, I wouldn't have noticed otherwise. Walking in, though, I got past it and the place was very quaint looking. The people who worked there looked tired from a day of sitting around doing nothing. We looked at the menu and decided we were just going to order our own food for the time being, I let me girlfriend go first, the older man took her order and immediately left the front to go back and cook. I was left waiting for gods know how long until the younger guy who was sitting next to the soda machine finally decided to ask if I needed something; when I told him that I was ordering something too he just said "... Oh..." Slowly put down his book, and sauntered up to the counter to take my order. When the food came, though, it was good enough. I figured by looking at the menu when I walked in that it was a Hawai'ian fusion place, but the thing is I hardly saw ANY Hawai'ian food aside from the use of spam in fried rice. I enjoyed the rolls, though. I got the Maki Special because it's 3 different rolls in the order and the spicy pork bowl. The pork was way too heavily spiced, though. I couldn't taste the meat or rice above the seasonings. Discovered this gem of a place! The menu is extensive including anything from salads, potstickers, tempura, along with rice bowls, bento boxes, noodles and sushi. The service is great and the portion size is amazing!! I've eaten here many times and am impressed with the taste of the food. The prices are very cheap. I ordered two Californian rolls and a Washington roll for only $20. The delivery is very fast oo, they came after about 20-30 minutes after I ordered. All in all I love this place :) read more

They have really slow service and the food ain't all that. They are super pricey and for that quality, it's definitely not worth the money. They do give you free miso soup while waiting. You are only allowed one refill per cup. The employees are always taking up one of the tables in this small store. The best Korean run Japanese "fast food" place i know. The chicken and beef teriyaki is ALWAYS tender and lean. Their salad dressing is yummy (sweet miso style) and the fried items like tempura and tonkatsu are ALWAYS not greasy ( if that makes sense). Excellent prices too. read more

Been wanting to try this place since I saw it driving by. Well I finally tried it and what a disappointment to start off the name throws you off thought they were going to have some bomb Hawaiian food instead got at best generic Japanese food by way of Korea which was freshly prepared but for some reason my meat was luke warm but the rice was steaming hot haven't figured that out and it was doused in some teriyaki sauce that tasted like it came straight out of a can. The service was so so where you pay upfront and the guy brings your food samurai style with a semi bowe after. As I was eating I kept thinking they should take Maui out of the name cause I was totally thrown off with the idea of Hawaiian. The food was edible but not worth coming back a second time. read more

I love this place. Friendly staff, clean facility, speedy delivery and most importantly food taste great! I usually order the Washington roll (salmon) and it is good quality considering this is a small establishment. It gives me that quick fix of sushi that I need during the day when I'm stuck at home with my kids and can't really drive to wait anywhere. They usually tell me on the phone that delivery will take 30 mins, but in 20 mins, they're at my door. I've been ordering from here for a couple years, now, and I'm still happy with them! read more

Yelper's can have a feeling that if you walk into a restaurant at noon on Friday and only one other party is present, reset your expectations. For Hawaiian BBQ, this falls way short of expectation. Sauce was over sweet. Chicken katsu was super thin and didn't include extra sauce. Crunch roll was salty, rice fair, no macaroni salad (are you kidding), didn't see spam on the menu, etc. The counter person was friendly but not Hawaiian. For those others who posted 4+ star reviews, maybe we had a bad Friday lunch experience but you should compare this to Ono Ono and then re-rate. read more

I'm really glad my cousins and friend told me about it! I can't get enough of their beef & chicken bowls. And their Cali rolls are great! I originally found this place on yelp when typed in hawaiian BBQ near by. I went in and for a small place they had a huge selection of sushi rolls and combination plates. They didn't have the normal hawaiian BBQ chicken plate that I'm used to with macaroni salad, steamed cabbage, 1 or peices of chicken. I ordered the combination plate they had #22 Hawaiin BBQ and it was amazing. I comes with a large portion of grilled chicken marinated in BBQ sauce and already cut in little pieces. It also comes with rice and I side salad that was just perfect. The cashier even gave me a free small bowl of meso soup while my food was being prepared. It was a good experience over all. read more

Wow ! This place was grossly discussing !! It's a shame because it's only two minutes from my house. One night I invited a friend over for dinner didn't feel like cooking so I went to yelp to find a great place great review place to eat. Yelp recommended this place so we went it was 30 minutes before close so we hurry we hurried over. When we showed up the place was empty , we asked the gentleman behind the counter what he would recommend us. He recommended a mix meat plate and a California crunch roll so we went ahead and order that few minutes after we ordered I heard the ding that sounded like a microwave. Not a good sound but I gave them the benefit of the doubt due to the reviews . We got our meal went home when we open it up the sushi was so cold it was worse than store-bought and the chicken for the mix meat was purple on or how old it was. Bad place read more

They opened a Maui Rose about 2 minutes from my house so I was interested to try it out. Now, I am VERY fickle about my sushi and don't often eat sushi outside my favortie place but I thought I'd give their Sushi a shot. I have to admit - pretty good stuff. Fresh and very well prepared. I learned about Maui Rose through a flyer that was sent to my house. We gave them a try, and their food is really great. I used to go to a Japanese restaurant in Cerritos that had the best sushi, but now I don't need to drive there anymore! The food here is great and reasonably priced. I have been eating here with a smile for over 7 years now. The only set back is that they are closed on Sundays... but it is a family run business and Sunday is about family and church, so no big deal. Service is always great. The young man always at the register is very nice. When he is not busy he is doing his school work. Our orders are always $40 or higher, the kids love the Miso soup and the California rolls. I personally love the #104 Rattlesnake Roll and #24 Beef & Chicken Teriyaki plate. My wife loves the #78 Shrimp crunch roll #5 Mango & Avocado salad.
