Last week my friend and I went to Max Burger for Happy Hour, I really don't remember having been here before, despite it being a pretty popular spot in my town. They have an outdoor patio, which is a nice option for less humid days. We sat at the bar, there were a few menus floating around, one was their regular full menu, another was their happy hour menu, and then they had their ad for the $2.50 burger, which is only good 3-6, Monday - Friday. So we put in orders for those burgers. I also got a margarita, and my friend got a beer. My margarita was very good, it was lemon based, and a bit sour. Our burgers arrived, and they were no joke. These were full 5 oz burgers, with tomato and lettuce, except no cheese. On the side we got kettle chips instead of fries and sliced pickles. This burger was delicious, it was made medium. It was juicy, seasoned and perfect, it wasn't missing anything. There were people ordering seconds. We also got a root beer float to share. I'm really not a fan of root beer, but this was pretty good. The vanilla ice cream was soft and melty, and they gave us the whole bottle of the root beer. This was a very pleasant experience at Max Burger. Their $2.50 burgers are for sure worth getting, I'm not sure how long they'll run the promo for. read more

We got the candied bacon lollipops to start which were good but small enough for two to share. I got the pain killer cocktail which was large and good. They also had a full beer menu. As with the rest of the Max Restaurant Group, I find Max Burger to be a slightly over-manufactured but great product. Their menu happens to be a bit over the board (eg why is there randomly edamame on the menu? And why can't I get mac and cheese without it being a $16 meat loaded portion?) With that said, their burgers are good and cooked well. I got the Texican burger today ($16.50 including friends) as well as a small Brussels sprouts side (around $6) and found both to be delicious and cooked well. I've also ordered the Maple-whiskey burger (also $16.50) before which I thought was yummy. Overall, I've been impressed by the food and happy with the delivery. read more

I can't believe it has taken me years to get to Max Burger. I've always heard great things about it but never actually tried it myself. Well, I was certainly not disappointed when I did. The burgers are top quality--there's no denying that! And the fries are some of the best I've had at a burger spot. Plus, they give you a gigantic portion of them which is great because many places skimp on that. You can opt for a 5 or 8oz patty. An 8oz is sized at what you'd typically see a restaurant burger. A 5oz is closer to what you'd see at a fast food place. So, whatever amount of burger you're craving, they've got you covered They have plenty of appetizers and I cannot wait to head back when I'm no longer pregnant because their beer menu is phenomenal. But hey, they had a nonalcoholic beer option so I went with that one for fun...nonalcoholic beer is never fun by the way ;) Overall, I cannot wait to be back and I'm glad to have another favorite burger place in West Hartford. Someone recommended this place for burgers. Food was fine. I think the only negative thing was my medium burger was definitely more on the rare side. Our server looked like she didn't want to be there and did the absolute bare minimum, though polite. Never asked us how our food was or if we wanted anything to else. And then disappeared. Flagged down the host to get our check from our server. When she came to drop it off, she didn't even say thank you, just put it down and walked away. I think Max Burger is one of those places that tries very hard to hit all the right spots for their primary menu item, and there are excellent things all around. In particular, the Togarashi Tuna Burger is a real standout, with an excellent balance of flavors and beautifully seared tuna. I've had both the All American 8 oz. and the Fatty Melt 8 oz., the second of which is a hugely decadent heart-stopper of a burger. The toppings are really fresh, the cheese has meltingly luscious flavor, and the onion rings are really quite good. The fries are okay, but they seem over-seasoned to me. The reason I give this place only four stars is because of the beef. They really need to do a better job seasoning and searing it. Both times, I've had bites of the medium-cooked burger that were dry, and there's nothing more frustrating when the primary product is like this. Maybe it's time to do two 1/4 pound patties instead of one 1/2 pound which they seem to overcook to get the center pink? read more

Expressed dissatisfaction with server and manager...confident made no difference to bringing concern to chef's attention so that no other customer's order resulted in same burnt state.. On a base of brown sushi rice there was english cucumber, radish, 1/2 a sliced avocado, edamame, fried wontons, dressed slaw, and ponzu. We went for lunch mid-week, which was nice because the restaurant was definitely quieter than we see it around dinner time and on the weekends. We sat outside and it was perfect weather. While the short rib meat was a little scarce, the nachos as a whole were good: nice spice in the queso, good portion size and short rib cooked well. Chicken wings were good, pretty standard barbecue wings. Nice size and cooked well. For the meal, we ordered the chicken caprese sandwich with french fries and a basic burger. Unfortunately, we felt like we waited longer than expected for our food. We watched other parties or similar sizes around us arrive after we did and get appetizers and then meals, quicker. Nonetheless, the server, Maddie, was very attentive and absolutely lovely. Giving recommendations and checking in throughout our meal to make sure we were okay. 10/10 service on her part. The burger was cooked perfectly. Absolutely delicious and made with all of the specifications we gave (for our dietary needs). The chicken sandwich made me nervous because chicken can get dried out and overcooked so easily, but to my delight, it was moist and flavorful. This was hands-down one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had. It was complimented beautifully by the pesto and soft, flavorful focaccia. Experienced Max Burger for the first time yesterday for lunch with a friend and it was great! I got there early but they let me sit at my table while I was waiting. We ordered the loaded tots, which were perfect--from the jalapeño cheddar fondue to the crispy outside shell. We both got Downeast strawberry ciders, which I'm assuming was a special for Valentine's Day, but we hope they keep forever! My friend got the American burger with fries, and I got the Whiskey burger with coleslaw and a small side of truffle fries. I only saw "family sides" for $6 on the menu but the server offered to do a "small side" for cheaper (I can only eat so many fries!). I'm so glad she offered that because the size was perfect for what I wanted. The burger was OK--I wouldn't get it again.. the toppings weren't proportional (way too many onions and arugula and almost no bleu cheese). But I would definitely try something else like their southwestern bowl or non-beef patties. It's a solid atmosphere, clean, average noise, a lot of windows for natural light. After a long hiatus due to the pandemic, came by on a recent lunch. Service was your typical Max quality. Attentive service with a smile. Professional and able to juggle many competing interests. The venue was terrific. Got to sit outside under shade on a high top table. Good breezes, good mood. The food was very good but not perfect. Case in point: my tuna burger was cooked rare instead of medium rare. No big deal but why ask me how I like it? And the bun fell apart halfway through. How many other diners have had the same thing. Either get a bun that works or figure something out. But having it fall apart and then make a mess on the plate is less than ideal for a $15 lunch. Fries were good. This was my first time at Max Burger and I can't wait to go back. I've heard great things about it, so I was excited to try it. When we arrived, they put me down on the wait list as there was a 10-15 minute wait. They ended up texting me that my table was ready 5 minutes later, so I was happy about that. They have a great menu with very reasonable prices, which is appreciated. There's something to eat for anyone at the restaurant. I knew I wanted a burger, but I normally go for whatever is spicy. I didn't see any spicy burger listed on the menu and I knew I like Parmesan peppercorn, so I went with that one. About 10 minutes after I ordered, I looked to my left and saw a specials menu standing up that had a jalapeño popper burger listed. I was a little disappointed because I would've gotten that, but I'm glad I went out of my comfort zone by getting something not spicy for once. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time, maybe like 20 minutes. That was very impressive considering the restaurant was packed. As I mentioned earlier, I got the Parmesan Peppercorn burger and substituted the regular fries for Truffle Fries. It normally comes with tomato on it, but I didn't want tomato. Once I tried the burger, I seriously couldn't get enough of it. The burger was outstanding, and I do not use that word often. It was juicy, full of flavor, and the Parmesan peppercorn was game changer. I normally put ketchup on my burgers, but I'm so glad I didn't for this one because that would've ruined it. They put onion rings on my burger, but they were sort of cold and really thick, so I took them off. I don't think the burger needed the onions, maybe if they were onion strings as they're much thinner and easier to eat on a burger. I really enjoyed the truffle fries as I could tell they were fresh and had a good amount of truffle oil and cheese on them. The person I was with got the Maple Whiskey burger and really enjoyed it. The only thing he questioned was why he wasn't able to taste the maple whiskey sauce, and he didn't think they put any on the burger at all. Besides that, the burger and fries were great. We tried the turkey burger and the tuna burger both with regular fries on the side. You can upgrade to some of they're other sides for an extra $1. The turkey burger was delicious! It was a pretty big size, flavorful and juicy. It comes with apple honey dijonnaise, brie, lettuce and tomato. The only unnecessary topping I would say is the brie. It really didn't add anything to the burger. The whole wheat bun was hefty enough to hold the burger and was tasty too. My partner liked his tuna burger but just thought it was a little messy as sauce was dripping out of the sandwich even when it just got to or table. Fries were just ok for me. Went to see the Yard Goats play the Flying Squirrels with tickets compliments of brother-in-law. Took my neighbor who needed Handicapped Parking but there was no parking available at all nearby. They did head us to a private lot several blocks away with a line of at least a hundred people waiting to use the pay kiosk. So we took off for 'better or worse'. The lean green salad was amazing and I don't love salad. I had the fatty melt with onions rings and the onion rings are some of the best I've ever had. Max burger is a decent "high-end" burger place that is worth your time if you've never been. I recently visited with a group of friends and our waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable giving good recommendations from the menu. Nothing to fancy here with a decent selection of appetizers, burgers, wraps and the like. After consulting with the waitress I opted for the maple whiskey burger (if I'm naming it correctly) and was not disappointed. It was either this or the fat burger (if I can recall the name). The burger was a little under my normal temp that I go for but definitely not a wash. The flavors married very nicely and didn't over power the beef of the burger. I also order a drink that had maple and it might have been maple overload for me. Should have went with a different drink choice but it was good. The only let down of the whole ordeal was the fires. They were cold and sad. More like an afterthought than a compliment to the meal. One of my friends didn't touch her fires with her motherclucker chicken sandwich which she said was crispy and juicy. The wait for the food was brief 20 minutes (on a Friday Night). While we were having our drink we decided to just eat at the restaurant instead. The hostess was very accommodating and sat us at an outside table. We thought that was very nice. I ordered the Spanish rice dish and it was delicious! It came with chicken. So many wonderful flavors in one dish. Absolutely loved it. My friend ordered the pulled pork sandwich and loved it. It was juicy and tender, not dry at all. My drink was great too. Only downsides were the lighting (felt like spot lights shining down on the table, so people were either in the BRIGHT SUN OF STAGE LIGHT or total darkness and needed flashlights for their menus) and it was very challenging to determine what was Gluten Free or not on the menu. Thankfully I asked about the tuna burger and the server shared that it was mixed with soy sauce. Great find in a cute area of town! Lots of great restaurants to choose from and there was even a main square with music and dancing! We were craving a 'gourmet' burger and this place was perfect for our price range. Most of the restaurants were $15-20 on average per person so paying $13 for a good burger and fries didn't sound so bad in comparison. We both ordered the PepperJack burger that came with grilled peppers (they are a little spicy) cheese, avocado, and grilled onions. We paid a little extra (the waitress says about 65 cents each) to substitute our fries for their specialty fries like their eggplant fries and sweet potato fries. The burger was delicious! And the sweet potatoe fries were also very tasty. They weren't greasy at all which is always nice to see. The eggplant fries were heavily battered so you couldn't really taste the eggplant. It just tasted like any fried food. The place was crowded but it's pretty large so even though they quoted us a 30 minute wait time. We were seated in about 15 minutes. They have that great system where not only do they send you a text when your table is ready, they have a link to a website where you can see your place in line!
