Sometimes all you want is a good burger and when that happens, Max Burger has got you fam. I was really really craving a burger and my date nearly gawked when he found out I'd never tried Max Burger. I was whisked away immediately. Twenty minutes later, I was beaming. Clutched tightly between my two hands was a hefty 8oz burger dripping with mouthwatering meat juices that the feather-light artisan buns couldn't contain. I'd gone for the Maple Whiskey which meant my burger was topped with arugula, caramelized onions, applewood smoked bacon and Swiss cheese which I'd asked for in place of the blue. The addition of homemade maple-whiskey sauce yielded a phenomenal sweet and savory combination. I am drooling about that burger as I write. For my side, I opted for sweet potato fries instead of regular ones and was again thoroughly satisfied with my decision. I seriously enjoyed my burger, tasty, classy, meaty, juicy and pretty. It was fairly cold out the night I came in, was wondering why so many people were withstanding the temperature outside while on the patio. Turns out the patio is heated and man it was wonderful, very good heated patio system they have here. Anyways, I was quickly greeted and seated, for an app I ordered the Fried Chicken Street Tacos which was something different, very good but not great. Still very pleased with it as it was crispy and flavorful but I just wasn't the biggest fan of the sauce. It was a sweet chili sauce with kimchi. I'd still recommend it though, maybe the sauce was slightly missing something, or I don't know, maybe I'm being picky. But for a main course I had the Wagyu Maximus Burger which consisted of American Wagyu, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and mushrooms all on an artisan roll for $16.95. It looked good, was cooked good, well put together, juicy, everything was perfect, it was just a great burger overall. Oh yeah I forgot it had the special "Max Sauce" as well. I was able to try a Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwhich as well and that was also very good. Meaty piece of chicken, fresh herb aioli, coleslaw and pickles. Chicken was well seasoned, crispy and fully cooked, everything else was fresh and was also only $9.95 which is so worth it as it comes with french fries like my burger. This place looks more expensive than it is which is great! Staff was friendly and informative as well. Once again I've ran upon another solid Max Restaurant, I knew it was going to be good and I'm glad I was right. Wasn't perfect so I'm giving them 4-Stars but they do have 5-Star potential. The review is more about the server Maya though. We had a server (I didn't catch her name) but we asked if she lived in the area as we had come to truly get the vibe from the locals. She wasn't local, but sent over Maya. Maya was raised in the area and she went above and beyond to help us out. She took out her notepad and gave us a list of things to do and places to check out. I ordered takeout from here through uber eats. I ended up ordering a marshmellow milkshake and the steak house burger which came with candied bacon, cheddar fondue, and waygu beef. A little disclaimer, take out food probably isn't as good as sitting down at the restaurant and having it served fresh. The burger was good not great. The cheddar fondue was heavily added and a little all consuming of the flavors. The milk shake was very good and came with a torched marshmellow on top. I enjoy the max restaurant group and will be back here again in the future. I would like to try a different burger and another milk shake. This pace is located next to Blue Back Square, which is a very happening area. It's nice to have a burger and walk around the posh neighborhood. Blackjack burger was my favorite. It's a very flavorful burger. Eggplant fries is something I never miss. Fatty melt is cheesy, but slightly bland for my taste. Truffle fries are good too. Hard to find happy hours these days! Restaurant was relatively quiet for the middle of the afternoon. Sat at the bar with no issues. Timing was off as the beer taps were down but the half price cans (Thursday special?) made up for it. Happy hour nachos had crispy light corn chips with their version of cheese sauce. Very tasty. It's always a worry for me that a place like this, located where it is and in such constant high demand, will inevitably decline in quality and consistency even if it is run by The Max Group. I'm glad to say that's not the case, and that my recent visit was very satisfying. Aside from our waitress being somewhat frazzled and a bit forgetful about aspects of our order, I have few criticisms. We enjoyed caesar salads and buffalo shrimp to start, the buffalo shrimp plating was very skimpy, but what was there, was good. The Steakhouse Burger was incredibly delicious, I mean if I had to describe my perfect burger, that was it. I housed the entire thing, which hardly ever happens, and the cook on the burger was perfect in that they achieved no pink for me without drying out the meat horribly. I'm told The Big Max Burger was also delish. The fries were great too, perfectly cooked, and the truffle parm option was even better. For me, however, the best part of the meal by far was the perfect little miniature milk jar kahlua milkshake, holy crap was that good. Food is okay. The fries are mid at best, generally soggy. Burgers are standard fare. There's a hidden $2 up charge for gluten free fries when dining in person and is specific to the West Hartford location. Wait staff experience was terrible. Inattentive and left with the impression that serving us was more of an inconvenience. We weren't a highly demanding group, but our waiter wanted to get away from us so quickly, they left behind all of our menus when we ordered. When asking for refills on water, one glass was refilled while two others remained empty. There was a single check in during the dining experience and was long enough that any issues that existed with our order couldn't have been addressed. Ambiance is fine, I don't think there's been a substantial change in the 10+ years it's been there. The suggested tip range of 18-25% on the receipt leaves a bad taste to the overall experience and serves as a reminder that you're not just at a burger place, you're at a burger place in west hartford center. Yeah, inflation is a thing, however the standard 15-20% range is already based on prices that have increased due to inflation. By no means am I suggesting that wait staff should not be tipped, however, it's just another thing about this location in particular that comes across as a cash grab and reinforces the perception that west hartford is for the upper class. Advice: the Longmeadow location is generally better, and slightly cheaper. If you're in the center, Halfway serves similar quality food for cheaper (a bacon burger is $2 bucks cheaper, hot dogs $5, cocktails $1.25, etc). If you're a gluten free diner, Plan B is a better option. read more

The ambience was good I ordered a buffalo chicken burger on a gluten free bun and my husband ordered the veggie texicana style burger. It came with fries and pickle! The portion size was good however the buffalo chicken burger was horrible to taste. The blu cheese(over powering) couldn't balance well in the burger. The chicken could not be tasted at all. With bbq sauce, onion rings and bacon. Eggplant fries, also great. Favorite app is general tao cauliflower, buffalo shrimp and wings. Our server Jessica was one of the best waitress we ever had! Decided to stop by this restaurant for the first time due to the hype I had been hearing for quite some time. Unfortunately, the experience did not meet my raised expectations. While the service was great and the staff was very friendly, the food itself could use some improvement. My party ordered several burgers, buffalo wings, and the poutine appetizer; all of which were salty and mediocre at best (besides the poutine and the Texican burger, which were both pretty good). Additionally, the bathrooms were unclean and had a terrible smell...such a drastic contrast to the clean dining area. Overall, I'm not sure I would recommend. However, I'd be willing to give it a couple more chances. I would be interested to come back and try more of their appetizers...perhaps during a happy hour to get that reduced price. read more

My friends said that Max Burger in West Hartford is the best burger place they've been to and insisted on taking me there. Downtown West Hartford has both street parking or paid parallel parking. There was a parking lot not far from the restaurant where we parked. I ordered a burger with a side of eggplant fries. I have never had eggplant fries, and I was very curious what they tasted like, I couldn't help myself but to try them. My burger was delicious, it was fresh, it came with some kind of sauce which was also pretty good. The eggplant fries were AMAZING, they were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside; they were seasoned and cooked so well that my mouth is watering as I'm writing this review. I don't know how I haven't reviewed Max Burger. It is definitely my favorite burger place. I have had every single burger on the menu and I have never been disappointed with the food. There is no one go to burger for me here, I always change it up based on what mood I'm in. Some things, like the Fatty Melt, are a novelty and definitely should not be your "every time" burger. But the Classic, the turkey burger, the Fun Guy, all excellent choices on a regular basis. The Fun Guy is their mushroom themed burger...fughi...Fun Guy...get it? They also have a "burger of the day" each day and sometimes have specials in addition to that. I've recently "discovered" their grilled cheese...it is enormous and very tasty. It comes with a small bowl of tomato soup for dipping. It's large enough to eat half there and take half home. Be sure your server gives you a container of soup to take home with you too! I will probably order it the next several times I go, until I feel the craving for a burger again. There are a ton of different sides you can get, but I never get past the truffle spuds. They are little bits of mashed potatoes, breaded and fried, and tossed in truffle oil and parmesan cheese. They are unique and tasty, you can't get these anywhere else, so definitely get them here! The staff/service can definitely be spotty, especially if you call ahead or try to go there with a big party. We recently had a holiday lunch there, and while they ultimately accommodated us, it was a super stressful experience wondering if we'd have a table when we got there. The soup came out wrong and the food runner went back abs brought us the soup we hd ordered. The goat cheese dip was good but the tomatoe soup was lacking in my opinion. I added one more "Max Group" visit to my Life Experience list today, when Max Burger in Hartford joined Max Amore (Glastonbury), Trumbull Kitchen (Hartford), Max a Mia (Avon), and Max Burger (Longmeadow) as a dining destination. Three of us popped in on an early Saturday evening, after volunteering through Yelp Helps to register and distribute shirts to hundreds of runners for the Iron Horse Marathons. (By the way, that was a real fun four hours!) Max Burger doesn't technically take reservations, but if you call them they will send you a text when a table is almost ready, and that worked to perfection for us. We walked in around 6 PM and the place was slammed busy. We were seated in a "cozy" corner booth pretty close to an adjoining booth. I know it's all about bodies per square foot, but this was cozy. Our drinks were a McKenzie Hard Cider ($5.75), a PB&J Shake ($5), and a beer special on the board - Stone Sprocketbier Black Rye ($6.75). My son was disappointed that his PB&J shake didn't have any booze in it, excuse me, but why should he have specified that's what he wanted? Maybe our server should have asked? Especially when the only PBJ on the menu is with the Spiked Shakes, and a non-alky version isn't even listed? Major fail. I have to give some props to that Black Rye- it's made by a brewery out in San Diego, and I really enjoyed it. It was smooth, delicious, and pretty darned potent. Our entrees were a Turkey Burger Salad ($12.95 for a nice salad topped with a "7 oz., Plainville Farms Turkey Burger with goat cheese, watercress, and oven roasted tomato"), a Drunken Mac and Cheese ($13.95 for "Cellentani pasta, bacon lardons, caramelized onion, arugula, Gouda, baked crispy onions"), and an Inside Out Burger with fries ($12.95 for an 8 oz, angus burger "gorgonzola stuffed" with applewood smoked bacon, grilled onion, arugula, artisan roll"). I had the salad and it was a very good value with great taste. The turkey burger was stellar- very tasty and satisfying. I stole a few fries from my son's burger plate and thought they were excellent as well- crispy outside and just really good. We finished with two desserts a white chocolate bread pudding and an icebox pie for $5 each from the special menu. I didn't fall in love with either, the bread pudding was kind of bland and flavorless, and the icebox pie was too frozen to really enjoy. I did really like the Hot Cinnamon Spice tea from Harney & Sons for $2.75. Our bill was $88.91 for a lot of food and drinks. Service was perfunctory, our server said and did all the right things, but seemed like she was reciting memorized lines in a play instead of genuinely interacting us. read more

I used to love this place, but something is VERY different now. 1) it was the first warm day this spring and it was uncomfortably warm inside 2) Ordered poutine but they bring some strange concoction of tator tots with minimal cheese which was on the bottom. Any Canadian would die laughing at this sorry excuse for poutine. It was nothing even remotely close to what poutine is supposed to be. 3) ordered a burger medium rare which came nearly well done, vastly over-cooked 4) onion rings were in a very dry doughy coating that had absolutely no flavor.
