So I ended up not paying tips, then they chased me back for tips after I left. P.s, I always pay 18% tips. If I pay them, it's not fair to those who put effort to service customers. The food is salty and full of MSG. The price is reasonable. They are trying to avoid tax so they don't even have a legal receipt. There are many Chinese or Cantonese cafe in Arcadia. Am making May Mei Restaurant my weekly or monthly rotation for sure, and if I lived in the area I'd seriously eat here everyday! I mean the menu does have something like 238 items to choose from and incredible lunch specials at a good value (from: 11am - 4pm)! Weekdays only for lunch specials. While the restaurant is known for "clay pot rice", their stir fried and braised items, noodles, soups, etc are just stellar; you really can't go wrong ordering from here. The meals comes with a hot soup (fire soup) and that alone is amazing! I was blown away at how fantastic the food was with perfection in "wok smoke" and flavor! Even left overs taste amazing! What you won't find are BBQ roast meats or live seafood served "whole" ; although, there are seafood items on the menu. This place is just alright.. What we ordered: Honey Walnut Shrimp - 6/10 - there was way too much mayo to my liking. I was basically scraping it off the edge of the plate Seafood Tofu Claypot 8/10 - pretty good! Very flavorful, but there isn't much variety of items inside (mushroom, tofu, some shrimp, some fish). Salt and Pepper Pork Chop 5/10 - Good portion but the meat is very fatty. It literally melts in your mouth and feels very tender, but it's because of how fatty the meat is. Seafood E-noodles 7/10 - the noodles were veryyy al dente - to the point where we were unsure if they were fully cooked. Nice, light flavor. Cons: - They charge $2 per person for rice - They also charge extra for credit card purchases (so bring cash!) - The waiters here were kind of mean to us because we weren't Cantonese speakers... - Service was minimal and slow. It was hard to flag down someone to order and our food came at really different times. May Mei is a local Arcadia gem, and I'm glad I returned with friends for their signature clay pot rice. Seating wasn't too difficult on a weekday afternoon, and the staff were friendly and present. In addition to the clay pot rice, we ordered salt and pepper pork / ribs and the string beans. We started with a complimentary soup - yummy! Imagine a sweet yet savory soup, the traditional, homecooked Cantonese style dried vegetable & pork broth soup with carrots. Ooh so yummy! The string beans were a good appetizer, and we picked at it like chips. Could be crispier and lighter on the salt but overall yum! The salt and pepper pork was perfect though a tad bit too salty as well. The real treat was the clay pot rice, and that - with half soy sauce - was perfect. The pork, sliced sausage, and vegetables were the perfect assortment of textures and tastes. And the best part? Scraping the clay pot in the end for the burnt rice. Great food like how my mother used to make at affordable prices in generous portions. At office reunion lunch this Saturday, we especially liked the August special of Steamed Fish (tilapia) -- only head and eye were left over with two wanting the leftover. i love their Scrambled Egg Shrimp dish like my mother made every Chinese New Year. I also love their Fish Fillet over bed of veggies, Sweet & Sour Ribs, Fish Maw soup although their house soup is very flavorful too. The staff can be hit or miss...some are super friendly, while others are a bit curt. The food however is consistently fresh and delicious. We especially enjoy their fried tofu in brown sauce, sauteed green beans, salt & pepper fried fish, various congees and chow fun dishes. They have quite a menu selection, so it's easy to find something new to enjoy. Parking can be a bit hectic on weekends, but the satisfying food at reasonable prices keep us coming back! read more

I just moved to the neighborhood and they are my go to place to eat out with friends when they visit. I haven't been able to go to another place because I really like any dish they have served. I'm in love with the fried squid with spicy salt I can't stop ordering it, it's just right. The Mongolian beef, chow mein, wonton soup, and green beans are all great as well. Tonight we ordered glazed walnut shrimps, assorted preserved meats in clay pot, black mushrooms and mustard greens and their delicious beef with green beans. Soup and almond jello desserts are complimentary. The workers are friendly, nice, and attentive. They always provide us with good service and refilled our drinks often. This restaurant is in a small shopping center. A hole in a wall place for a great meal. I live in Los Angeles and depend on Metro transportation. Since my bff live close to May Mei Restaurant, I ask her to order takeout on Saturday and bring to church on Sunday so I can have beef brisket for the week. Nice portions. Good flavor. Well, we had another sleepover this past weekend and we were able to eat lunch at May Mei Restaurant. We got there before the rush of customers. They do a lot of takeaways orders. We ordered #72 deep fried fish fillets with spicy salt, #202 Singapore style fried rice noodles and # 197 chicken chow mein Hong Kong style crispy noodles. We also ordered takeaway. I ordered my usual #116 beef brisket hot pot. Bff sister ordered #197 chicken chow mein for dinner. Not sure what else she ordered. We had a wonderful culinary experience. I usually get their chicken and mushroom clay pot and wonton egg noodles. Very delicious and tasty authentic Cantonese foods. Been coming to this restaurant for over 10 years now, usually I have a really good experience here but post-covid the overall quality has gone down. To start off the negative, I ordered and waited 50minutes and got... nothing on my table. I told a server of my situation and turns out they lost my order. I was given a complimentary soup (which I didn't even want) and had to wait another 10minutes before 2 of my 3 dishes showed up. At this point I was starving and the food quality was just alright. The beef cubes were delicious but the fish fillet didn't taste fresh. You can definitely tell it was expired sea fish. The portion of the food also got ALOT smaller compared to pre-covid. They also charge $1 for drink refills now so save ur money on that. To make matters worse the stone pot rice I ordered never came. Since I figured they lost the order I just wanted to get the check and leave. The old asian bald server (presumably manager of some sort) told me in a condescending tone: "Why didn't you tell us earlier?" Now this is how you piss off a customer.
