SOOOOO fun! I was looking for a bar in Harrisburg to watch the Notre Dame game last Saturday night against Michigan State, and thanks to Yelp reviews ended up at McGrath's. I walked in and ALL the tv's had the game on, the sound was playing, fans all over, and every time we scored they played the Fight Song! I had SUCH a good time. The food was great too :) I had a turkey burger and my friend had the bacon cheeseburger. They were nice and juicy, served with chips, which were more like round french fries, but nice and thin, yet still chewy.... Can't wait for my seminar next month so I can come back here for the next game! read more

Ordered take out today for myself and my boss. We both are adhering to specific diets and requested certain changes on our food. Our orders came as is and the requests we made for our individual meals were completely ignored. My Celtic Burger was to be medium and it's bright pink, cool, and rare in the middle. In the drab, boring, plain commonness that is Harrisburg, I was so pleasantly surprised to find a little hole in the wall pub to have lunch and IT WAS D'Lish!! My Smoked Turkey Wrap was AMAZING!! Good location, friendly staff and decent food. They have a varied menu with several types/flavors of wing sauces (some are gluten free) and many burgers, sandwiches, salads, and entrees. A nice option is a grilled or blackened protein with a vegetable of the day (chicken with broccoli was $12). Reasonable prices and standard fare. read more

Great service and food. Just what we were looking for! The friendly atmosphere perfectly fits the Irish pub setting. I had their specialty, Irish Fish and Chips. This entree was not the typical frozen fish and fries meal. The fish pieces were perfectly fried pieces of fresh salmon. My wife had the Delmonico steak, and it was very tender and cooked exactly to her liking. Will definitely return when back in Harrisburg again. read more

I'm usually not one to opt for a pub, so I was pleasantly surprised by the food, cleanliness, and overall atmosphere. The fish and chips were spot on-- and get this, they were made with salmon. Great place. I got the pub club with the fries and those fries we probably my favorite fries ever. I was full and kept eating! The place has a true pub feel to it. The place isn't huge but it looked like a popular place for locals! And they had my favorite beer on tap, Smithwicks! All around great. read more

This is one of the good bars in the so called Harrisburg downtown. This bar has two floors where both the floors have bar counters .. the second floor is a smoking section where you an smoke inside and outside . They have good food too every time I go I order Barney bread. They have good burgers too. read more

Sat at the bar as I was flying solo. Had a nice pint of Smithwicks Ale. Ordered the Shepard's Pie, which was disappointing due to large chewy pieces of lamb. They graciously took it back and I went with the Fish and Chips, which was excellent. They handled my complaint very well and I would be happy to go back again. read more

A really nice pub with ample space to spread out across two levels. For the nicotine lovers, the second floor is a smoking zone. Good selection of Irish and Scotch whiskey, and of course beer. Haven't tried the food. Bartenders were attentive and made sure we always had a drink in hand!! read more

There are 2 bars, 1st and second floor. I usually visit upstairs which allows smoking and has a great happy hour with $1 off mixed drinks. I'm addicted to pinball so I get my fix while enjoying a great mixed drink. The bartenders are very friendly with great service. I've only tried the celtic wings and pub fries so far, but the wings had me coming back more than I'd like to admit because i became addicted immediately! read more

This place is amazing! I eat here for lunch during my work day, and have never had a bad experience. Their burgers are top of the line. Nice beer selection. I have eaten at just about every establishment in the Capital Complex area, and McGrath's is the best. Their fries are "chip" style and so good. Not a bad item on the menu. read more

The good: The Moscow mule. Best Drink in the house, hands down. The bad: Upstairs. Upstairs is a very strange atmosphere. There's an OK bar room, but it goes quickly downhill from there. A balcony seats about 3 people, and feels as safe for maybe 1. If your lucky you get the seat next to the open door the bartenders throw empty bottles near. Or maybe you're lucky enough to walk up a few more stairs into the awkward living room sitting area. I feel as though I've broken into someones place to have a beer. The bathroom, however, is nice and homely. If you want to pee in any public restroom in Harrisburg that is an exact replica to your grandma's bathroom, then go pee upstairs. Also there is an awkward arcade room. the Verdict: Keep sippin the endless beer supply downstairs. Pee upstairs. And drink a Moscow mule to and from on the stairs. read more

Stopped by with my wife and young kids and had a great meal. The staff was excellent, the food looked good and tasted even better (def. try the potato soup). Highly recommended for anyone looking for a good meal in Harrisburg. 5 stars, hands down. read more

My friend's love going to this place. HOWEVER, every time they take me to this restaurant/bar we receive the worst service. It is almost like we (customers) are bothering wait staff for items. My last visit August 4th was NO DIFFERENT. I ordered Crab Stuffed Mushroom - when placing my order - I instructed wait staff, that I would like drawn butter and extra lemons for my app. The new manager (?) short linebacker body style female - delivered my food. When she sat the plate down - I told her I asked for lemons and drawn butter. She literally touched my 1 lemon on my plate with her finger. I looked at her and said "that was gross" and "you literally just touched my food on my plate with your bare hands" - you could tell she got extremely irritated, grabbed my one and only lemon off my plate with her BARE HANDS and walked away. She came back with a plate of lemons and drawn butter. By this time, I was already cutting my food up to eat, when TWO FLYING INSECTS came out of my lettuce. Instantly grossed me out and I did not want my food any longer. She looked at me like I was a problem. CLEARLY MCGRATHYS your wait staff needs education on how to SERVICE customers and to know when to apologize when your establishment was clearly in the wrong! Let's add in TODAYs new - from Department of Health annual survey posted all over public media ~ Food stored at TOO WARM temperatures ~FLYING INSECTOR OR RODENT contaminating prep area ~Employees touching ready to eat food with bare hands (I am sure... that was HER) ~No soap at employee hand sink - PHEW McGrath's Pub - owner(s) should be ashamed of their selves to hire individuals with horrible work ethic and bad manners I will NEVER return there and I will be sure to tell everyone I know as well as show them the pictures of my food with insects in it. read more

Food was pretty good. French fries were rather cold. Bartender balked at me sitting at a table even though there were very few people in the place. After sitting at the bar, which I find uncomfortable to eat at, I ordered my food. Just then other people came in and sat at the very table I first occupied. This is my favorite place to hang out in the Burg when I just want to chill with a brewski. Don't be lured away by the other so called Irish Pubs, this place is the one you want. The bartenders and servers are so friendly and always know what's on their ever changing taps. I love the Turkey Rachel it's delicious, but if you're a vegetarian you don't have to many options (the good old portabello staple and apps are about it). However, I think the food is good and again, my favorite place to just hang comfortably. read more

Ah, love this place. I look at the menu each time but gravitate only to the following: Irish Nachos (potato skins w/banana peppers) and the fried salmon appetizer. Yep, you read that right. They use salmon v.s cod for the fish and chips and it's actually great. Awesome mixed drinks from Adam, the best bartender in town, and a friendly staff. Go early if you have a group. The best place to get a properly made, and served in a copper mug, Moscow Mule. Whenever I need to clear out any congestion I have or even pneumonia, I come in here and order a few of these. I've been here countless times and they deserve my review, one word that comes to mind is... consistent. Lunch would be my suggestion, as you can get in and out with a decent meal in 40 minutes. Lunch service has always been smooth, whether at the bar or tables. Their specials are always spot on, from Hawaiian pulled pork to seafood dishes. They have a good selection of drafts, both local and national. They have an upstairs as well, more of a smokers bar, so no need to venture up there if your a non-smoker. The pub isn't that big, so if you go in the middle of lunch hour it may be full. For a pub in Harrisburg, it is way better than average. read more

This is the gem of downtown Harrisburg. I have only really hung out downstairs because the upstairs permits smoking, but I have always had a good time. It usually gets pretty crowded on the weekends, but I have managed to grab a seat at the bar or a table on most occasions. They always have great beers on tap, and I hear the Moscow mules are pretty killer. Friendly service (always a plus) and a low-key vibe. read more

This is a nice little pub with a decent beer selection. It's nice enough but definitely not pretentious. I got the Delmonico steak and it was cooked correctly but a bit fatty and fairly thin. Other folks got the fries and thought they were good. So I guess the summary is it's quite nice for a neighborhood pub but the food could be better. Service was friendly and again unpretentious. Came in, visiting from Philadelphia for an art show, got a beer, waited a bit after at a table moved to the bar for easier faster service. Got the habanero Garlic wings, sweet, ordered theduck boxy, my boy got the crabcake entree. Duck Came out burnt boxy half cooked, was real upset with it. Turned out, the owner was sitting next to us, real cool guy. Asked me about the food, after over hearing me talking to my boy about the sub par entree i received... Sent me out food that was worthy of this review. The Duck boxty was the second time out. Get it... Juicy the chipotle jam was sweet, spicy, and complimented the properly cooked duck and boxty perfectly! Overall between the cool owner who actually cares about his business and wants to see it do well, which is keyduring these hard times, and the best duck I've had in a while I'd day it's worth an hour and dirty one minutes drive to come back.
