My favorite Irish pub in Harrisburg with great happy hour specials and delicious food. And not just average bar food. Their menu is full of Irish fare along with a great selection of excellent bar food. I enjoy the Blarney Bread and different varieties of wing sauces that change weekly. My favorite beverage here is the Moscow Mule and it's a tradition for me and some of my friends. The staff is great, friendly and fun. Happy hour is 5-7 with great draft beer specials and $5 appetizers. Well worth it and always a fun time. They also have a daily bottle and drink special which are easy on the wallet. There is a smoking bar upstairs and no smoking downstairs so everyone can get their drink and smoke on, depending on the mood. Go here for the food, drink, and general good times when you're out on the town in Harrisburg. You'll be glad you did. read more

This is a great pub in downtown Harrisburg. There is street parking and parking lots all around. The hours are a little different due to Covid, but they are still open to serve you. They are wearing masks and adhering to guidelines. If you haven't yet, please try their food. It is quite good and with a good price to match. This place serves the best BLT I've ever had in my entire life! I love their "chips" too. They are "french fry" like rippled chips that are just the right crispy on the outside and warm on the inside. The crab pretzel is delicious! The fish and chips are delicious! Needed a place to grab a quick meal and watch the Steelers beat the Bengals. Glad I found McGraths. Courtney mixed me an outstanding Old Fashioned and then I ordered the Dublin wings(sweet and spicy) and a side of fries. As you can see, the food was perfect, delicious and the atmosphere was great. This is a hidden gem in Downtown Harrisburg. Great beer selection had my all time fav Chimay blue. Went there for food. Ended up staying a number of hours chatting. Stopped in here a few days ago, and had an absolutely phenomenal experience. My fiance and I came in today, and sat at a table. The bartender was behind the bar on his phone. Never even acknowledging us. A separate group of people came in a few minutes after us, and sat at the table next to us. OK. I'm eating crow on this one and it has nothing to do with the food. I hadn't been there in a few years so when my husband recommended this as a post-soccer game weekend lunch . . . I wasn't enthusiastic. I wanted something more interesting and I didn't want "bar food". I hate bland and bar food is often bland. Well, when we walked in it smelled smoky. I made a comment about it. Turned out it was the hostess who had just taken a smoke break. Oops. Off to a great start. Our server was good and we soon had our orders taken (despite indecision on my part which delayed the process). My son ordered one of the $10 burgers and it was fantastic. A big, juicy burger on a decent bun. The fries were also good. I ordered the Pub Club which was very good except for the bacon which tasted deep fried (which tends to strip out much of the flavor in exchange for good crunchiness). So big, I had to take half of it home. Not bad for $10. Again, the fries were good. Daughter ordered the BBQ wings. She really liked them. Hubby ordered the Shepherd's Pie which had a flavor I hadn't encountered with that dish before, and it was really good. Definitely worth the $13. Over all, a great experience. Quaint, Irish pub look and feel. Only one compliant. They must have been cleaning in the kitchen because there was a lot of noise and the sound of spraying and the smell of bleach. It was the bleach smell that made things unappetizing. Kind of made your nose burn. Also made me wonder if the bleach was in some way getting on the food. read more

November 11, 2022 - Veterans' Day - Lunch today at McGrath's Pub was terrific. Server Kimberly R. was a real pro - friendly, attentive, accommodating, and efficient. I had one of the day's specials: Bacon-wrapped meatloaf, red potatoes, roasted fresh Brussels sprouts, and brown gravy, plus freshly buttered bread. It was delicious, very flavorful, and juicy. My companion ordered a starter of Duck Flat Bread, which was described as soooo good! This was followed by the Ryan Sandwich with pub fries and pickles. Also given high marks. Stopped in for happy hour and to celebrate some birthdays on a Monday evening and it sure looked like so did everyone else! This place was busy for a Monday and it shows that with great deals and good food, you draw a crowd any day of the week. We called ahead for a table and they reserved this were very accommodating. The place is small so trying to maneuver was a little challenging. The place is very cozy so it's a very inviting space for a date or for a small gathering. My husband ordered the shepard's pie and he loved it! It came in a little crock and was filled to the top. I ordered the cup of potato soup which was perfect for the cold weather and the appetizer portion of the fish and chips...minus the chips. The fish was salmon and it was in a beer batter coating. It was so light and crisp. It was delicious! It was 5 generous pieces. The tartar sauce was very good and tasty. This is a great place to hang out with friends and enjoy a good meal. This place is great. A laid back drinking oasis in a sea of booty clubs. McGrath's has an older, but still kind of rowdy crowd. One can tell upon entering that it's full of professional drinkers, hockey players, or both. I sensed a family vibe between the patrons and the staff. The most awesome part about this bar is the huge selection of craft beer. I hadn't seen this anywhere in Harrisburg yet, and was very excited. I never thought I would say this but this is a smoking bar/pub and I would come here again in a heartbeat! Normally I would avoid a smoking establishment like the plague but these folks are so good I've made and exception. I was in town on business and walked in here based on the solid 4 star Yelp reviews. I arrived at the tail end of happy Hour on a Tuesday and the place was jammed. I was lucky and only waited 10 minutes to snag a seat at the bar. The smoke was discernible but I knew that coming in so I was prepared. Regarding beer; these guys have about twenty taps and ton of bottles. All together the selection is very good. I'd had a very tough day so I needed something with a kick. Stone Double Bastards did the trick. As I sipped my draft I noted that two thirds of the folks at the bar were eating and they looked very happy. The guy to my left was tackling a platter with a 1 lb. flame grilled rib-eye with all the trimmings. This thing was huge and he said it was delicious. It's the most expensive item on the menu at $30. Most everything else is much easier on the wallet. The gentleman to my right was enjoying a meatloaf sandwich on toasted sourdough ($8). He also said it was excellent. I choose the Simple Steak. It's a 6 oz. Flat iron and you pick either grilled or blackened and I choose the latter. It comes with the vegetable of the day and goes for $14. This steak was way beyond average pub food. It was cooked correctly and the blackening was perfect. The vegetables were sautéed Brussels sprouts with red peppers and mushrooms and they were outstanding. So I could do without the smoke but otherwise my visit was excellent. I also award these folks 4 stars. read more

Pure perfection to someone like me. I start by entering the restaurant/bar on the ground level and settling in with a Extra Irish coffee and a shepherd's pie. After the food is gone I move upstairs and take a comfy seat ordering a Guinness and an Irish Whiskey. Then out comes my iPad to get some work done and a good cigar. One of the few places grandfathered in for this. The Food - The fare is what you would expect to find at any irish pub. Obviously made from classic recipes and made with care for your enjoyment. A myriad of drinks and I watched many of them mixed speedily yet with no less care than placement of the food on plates. The place excels at the small touches that make the experience worth the price. The Price - The food seems to be market price and no complaints there. Drinks were a little above average. The beer and standards seemed about equal to the other bars in the area however the specialty and mixed drinks were definitely more. However worth it in my opinion. The Service - This is the winner. Over the multiple times that I was in I was treated like a family guest. No matter how full the place was. Bartenders and Waiters/Waitresses would stop and talk when not busy and I had more than one good conversation with the owner while up smoking my pipe in the smoking lounge. Clarification - On the upper level there is a secondary bar that allows smoking, a smoking lounge (comfy chairs in living room fashion), a game room, and a outer deck. Four words: Thanksgiving Feast Turkey Burger Never heard of such a thing? Neither did I until I saw it as one of the current specials at McGrath's Pub. What is it? Well, it's everything I love about Thanksgiving wrapped up into one huge sandwich: grilled turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing and cranberry sauce, all piled on a Ciabatta roll. I couldn't believe I was reading the menu correctly and had to try it. After the bartender put the plate down, I first tried eating it with my hands like a burger, which turned out to be an impossible task. So I resorted to knife and forking it to completion. It was an absolute delicious mess, complimented with a pickle and potatoes sliced like potato chips but with the consistency of French fries. French chips? I don't know, but the whole meal was tasty and filling. Actually, I'm having a repeat craving just thinking about it again. Add in a half-price Happy Hour (4-6 pm) on all 20+ taps and I was patting myself on the back for deciding to stop here. My wife and I have been going to McGraths since we met there is 2014 and it remains our favorite place in Harrisburg for good reason. They always welcome you like you're a long lost friend, the beer selection is ever changing and has a good mix, and best of all the menu is good with quite a few standout items. The specials are creative and never dull. Last night we tried the PB&J wings and were not disappointed. We'll keep going back and will always recommend it to anyone visiting from out of town. McGrath's is one of my favorite pubs in downtown Harrisburg, it's has a homey Irish decor about it, with 2 bars, a small outdoor balcony, and a lounge area. The downstairs is usually packed on weekends but you can often find a somewhat more laid back atmosphere in the upstairs bar and lounge. I've never tried the food here but I love how they have such a huge selection of bottled and draft beer. If you check out their website, they update the beers they have on draft (and plan to have) regularly, and they do carry some rare beers you probably have never seen before. Service has always been good for me and as mentioned by other yelpers they do make strong drinks for a fair price. Definitely recommended. read more

First time here and I absolutely enjoyed it to the fullest. The bar was nearly full, so my friend and I sat at a table (able to seat yourself). We were greeted immediately by our server Nick. He was super fun, relatable, and took care of us. I ordered the cherry wheat beer, scotch eggs (YUM), and probably the best caesar salad I've ever had. We've enjoyed several menu items. The Blarney Bread is delicious. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Restaurant is clean, warmly decorated and has wonderful stained-glass pieces behind the bar.
