Me Con is pretty legit for Viet food in South Austin! A group of my friends met up and had a really enjoyable dinner. The canadian egg noodle bowl was so delicious. It reminded me how my mom would prepare it for my family. The pho looked decent. The grilled pork vermicelli bowls looked amazing! Wish I could have tried everything but everyone was starving and ate it up before I could say "let me try a piece!" It was quiet for a bit which is a good sign, right? This is a review based on the Chinese portion of their menu. I am Chinese and have had good Chinese from Los Angeles to Boston. This is not it. Got delivery of Mongolian Beef and General Tso's Chicken. Both were inedible and ended up in the trash. Chicken was stringy, tough and dry and the Mongolian Beef has a few pieces of beef surrounded by tons of diced celery, onions and drowned in a clear sauce. read more

honestly this review needs to be divided into 2 parts food and atmosphere. first the good. the food is great. some of teh best asian ive had in south austin. my wifes egg fu yung was the best shes had in town and my canadian noodles were also great. on food alone its 4 1/2 stars However. immediately on walking in the smell of incense was overpowering. my wife who is sensitive to smells got an instant headache. we took a table as far away from the front as we could by the incense scent lingered in the air. I know there is a buddhist shrine in the front but a business,especially a restaurant needs to be mindful of that fact that not everyone can handle an odor like that especially when its overpowering. Coming from a Chinese person, this food was some of the worst I have ever had. We ordered the Chinese food (chicken and broccoli, beef lo mein, shrimp and lobster sauce, pork fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, egg rolls, egg drop soup) so I can't speak for the Vietnamese food. I ordered this through yelp's delivery service when I was sick and craving pho. It was delivered very quickly. The pho broth was delicious, the chicken was lean white meat chicken breast, and they did not skimp on the added shrimp. They included all the sauces and garnish (which many deliveries leave out). I was intrigued to see Hu Tieu on the menu. It's the main dish of the South and not as popular as the northern Vietnamese dish Pho. We arrive at the restaurant at 9:25. They close at 10. There were 3 parties there eating already. We ordered the saigon eggrolls, bun thit nuong, and hu tieu thap cam. I asked for hu tieu dry with broth on the side. The eggrolls were good. They brought out the bun thap cam instead of bun thit nuong. My husband told them it was okay. I had some of his dish. The bi was flavorless. Not authentic. The thit nuong had a funny aftertaste. They brought my dish out last. The flavors were so good. The execution though... the noodles were so mushy. They crumbled when touched. Unfortunately we were only in Austin for a few days. Not sure of meal was typical or because it was so late. We did get out of there right at 10 pm. read more

Wow. I was through and through surprised by this establishment. Number one, I walked in to find not one Asian in the restaurant. I thought what's up with that? I don't mean to judge harshly but it's Vietnamese food. I have never seen so many non-Asians working and dining in an Asian food establishment. It must be the trendiness of the place! Number two. When the food came out, I forgot about my first surprise. The food was fantastic. Very well executed. We got a bowl of pho--solid broth. Check. Vermicelli noodles with grilled chicken--outstanding and fresh. Check. The pork bao buns--well done and aesthetically pleasing. Check. Number three. Impeccable service. Wow. There are lots of servers--all hard working. I was impressed by the way the place was run. The food was fantastic. The phone in/online orders were constantly coming in. I'll start with saying the food is pretty tasty. I've had several dishes and they've all been above average. It's super fresh. The grilled chicken is tasty and the pho broth is pretty rich. The reasons I wouldn't go back or recommend this place to a friend: 1. I've never heard of bun coming without an eggroll. Our's didn't and they charged $3.95 extra for 2 vegetable eggrolls. 2. They also charged $2 for some extra vegetables to go in the bun. Again, I've never heard of that. It turned what should have been a $20 dinner in to a $30 dinner after tax and tip. Overall it's still a pretty nice place if you're aware of those things. It would still be a good place for pho, but we like bun, and eggrolls in our bun are a must. :D read more

First time going to this place after several recommendations from neighbors. I had the Mongolian Beef. It was served with fried rice and had very tender beef.
