The place is just about average. Rating is more like 2.5 Reason: average. Nothing that stands out on either end of the spectrum and since there's so much competition for Mediterranean food places in and around Castro. It will be one of my last options for Mediterranean food around here For vegetarian options it is easily a passé! For instance, the veggie delight, is a Combination of scanty amounts of a few things. They serve about 2 tablespoons of hummus and babaganosh hitch taste aight! The salads are probably disgusting and almost non-existent. The falafel and dolmades are ok. The potato thing is amazing though again it's only scanty. Oh and they won't sub their stupid pita bread with rice! The rice isn't even yellow! I ordered the beef kabab koobideh wrap and HD ordered the chicken wrap. Both were very good. For appetizers we order Kibbeh which came out when we were almost done with our wraps. . YUm Yum Yum. 4 stars for the food. I had a restaurant.com coupon which resulted in extremely icy service from the young lady at the counter. They tacked on 15% service charge, what service? We ordered our food at the counter, we got our own drinks, napkins, and silverware, picked up our food when they called out that our food was ready. Been going to Mediterranean Grill House for lunch with friends & co-workers since the beginning of this year. They have one of the best falafel wrap and plate around. Not to mentioned their chicken or beef & lamb wrap combo are just delicious. I would give them 5 stars if not for the sometimes slow service during busy lunch times. I've been searching for the perfect tabouleh since my college days when I dated a Lebanese guy whose mother made the most wickedly delicious tabouleh. I had almost given up hope when I found this place. Y-U-M. There have been a couple of times when it wasn't quite perfect but for the most part it's excellent. Also, LURVE their falafel...super crispy on the outside and moist and tender on the inside. Recommend the lentil soup as well. The one complaint I have is that it's not very well ventilated and the heavy meat smell is kinda off-putting to my tender vegetarian sensibilities. So, unless it's warm outside and I can eat at one of the outside tables I just get my food to go. read more

I can't believe I've not reviewed this place. I used to come here often when I stayed in Mountain View and now I come back for the falafels! I used to always eat the Kufta Kebob and my husband's go-to is the lamb shish kebob but, in an effort to eat more healthily, I tried the veggie delight plate. Dulmas are not my cup of tea but I loved the falafels. They remind me of indian dhal vade. Anyway, their falafels are super fragrant and fried till crispy on the outside but not dry inside. I crave the falafel plate which I usually have with hummus and tabouleh. Great combo :-) I much prefer Med Grill House to Falafel's Drive In near Santana Row cos it's more fragrant even if FDI's is more moist. Hmm... Honestly, for $14.99 I was expecting WAY more than 5 little pieces of chicken and burnt pilaf (I got the chicken kebab plate). The flavor was ~good~ but not good enough to justify the prices. For 2 chicken kebab plates and 4 falafels, our total was $34... for counter service only. There are better and cheaper Mediterranean/Persian restaurants in the area. Great place for a Mediterranean feast. The husband and I head here when we're really hungry. I usually have to take 1/2 the meat/rice home if I order plate - that's saying something - I do agree w/previous posts that it is oddly not as good the next day! We've eaten here about 8 times and tried several of the plates and wraps. Service is friendly, food is consistent (EXCEPT - falafel balls recently shrunk by 50% - not a good sign!), atmosphere is minimal/clean. They do have outside tables on Castro which can be nice depending on the weather. Salads are fresh, meat is of good quality - yes, there's not much pita provided - we've never needed more, however I get the feeling if asked for it would be provided gratis. read more

I've definitely experienced better than this. Falafel is not any exceptionaly good. Infact, unlike some other falafel places, these guys dont have any specific hot sauce which you should or must have. I would still prefer going to Falafel bites on Lawrence expressway anytime. BEST MEDITERRANEAN FOOD I've ever had! Prices aren't bad. The food is so worth it! I almost always leave full! The service is also pretty quick and friendly as well. I've had the vegetarian plates/rice dishes here as well as lavash wraps and falafel sandwiches. When the weather is hot and I don't feel like eating to my heart's content and leaving with my stomach all out for the world to see, I like to order a couple falafel balls (I think it's a dozen for $5) with some tahini sauce. After a 3 hour hike went to this place since it had a halal menu. We ordered the lamb and beef shawarma plate, a lamb shawarma wrap, and a house special plate. The meat was tender and well cooked. The serving size was decent for the price however the wrap was really bland even though we asked for it to be spicy (they had asked). One of our sides was tabouleh salad which was pretty ordinary.. We also ordered a side of garlic potatoes which were different than what we expected and didnt seem like they were cooked fresh. Got there a little late, around 9pm. I asked when they closed and they said 10, but clearly the place was folding up as the cooks were well into their cleanup. I ordered a beef-lamb shawerma wrap. It was just OK for me, needing more flavor. Anyhow, I thought it was OK until the last bite, when I dragged out a long piece of un-chewable fat from the wrap. If there is one thing I can't stand is having mystery meat in burritos or wraps, and places that don't pay attention to the quality of meat they use and use scrappy meat thinking people don't notice if they can't see it. I NOTICE. I was also disappointed that there was no one to ring up a dessert when I stood there at the register waiting for service. 3.5 stars The food is great but points docked off in customer service and price. It is a bit on the high side for what you get. Customer service is a hit or miss. First time I was here, the girl at the counter seemed to rush me, so I felt pressured to make a decision. Other times, the cashier is very bubbly and warm. Depends on their mood, I guess I ordered the falafel with eggplant. Its good, but quite expensive for what you get. Maybe the wraps are smaller than the plates but I literally finished my wrap in 5 bites. When you pay almost $9 for a wrap, I expect to be full. Maybe Ill try the plate next time. read more

I've only ever ordered falafel from here but the service is fast and friendly and the price can't be beat, especially when you get the bag of a dozen! The falafel are big and fresh although I find a more complex flavor develops after the leftover sit in the fridge for a day or so. Falafel was average and the beef/lamb shawerma was not appetizing at all - overcooked with tough meat. It never really looks busy (walk by there a fair amount) and that's usually a red flag. Yum! This place was delicious! The falafel balls were so good-not too greasy and with just enough crunch. It came out warm too. I had the shawerma beef and lamb wrap and it was good but in my opinion, had a little too much meat. The meat was tasty and flavorful but on the drier side. Love the food once again and the hospitality of the owner. We missed ordering a wrap and the owner gives a falafel plate on the house.

My wife and I were ahead of 7 groups with two or more people and everyone got their food before we did. 24 minutes later, I went up to talk to one of the helpers and he said he'll check on it. 5 minutes later, two more groups received their food. We were hungry and fed up! We went up to get a refund and the guy who took our order didn't even apologize. He went straight to the kitchen to check on the food. When he came back, we demanded a refund. He stated that our food was coming up and said he would give us a refund. The food finally got onto trays while he refunded us and said we can have the food. Of course, you can't deny free food! Here's the kicker, most of the other people's food were on plates. We only ordered two wraps which should come out fast! Yeah, they must've forgotten but we noticed that other people went up to the register to follow up in their food. I would give zero stars, but I have to give one to complete this review. Excellent food. Great, fast service. I call in a lunch takeout order about once a week and it's ready for pickup in under 10 minutes. It takes longer to find parking, unfortunately. They hold takeout orders in a little mini-warming cabinet so that after you've circled for parking for 30 minutes, your food is still nice and warm. One complaint - the falafels are mini! They should tell you they are 1/2 falafels. Seriously, they are semi-circles. The other thing is that for lunch, it's not cheap. I just spent $15 on a chicken kebob plate. It's ginormous and I can probably save the rest for dinner, but I never do. I wish they had lunch specials (lower prices for smaller portions). This isn't the fanciest place on Castro, it's easily my favorite though. You will not leave this place hungry. Whenever I order one of the plates, I always think it's way too much food, but I somehow end up cleaning my plate. My favorite has to be the Kufta kebob - this sounds strange but the rice is addictive. Also love, love, love the cucumber yoghurt salad and humus. If you're not super hungry any one of the wraps is a good choice. Tip: If you're going to go with a group, let the cashier know and they will arrange to have everything ready at about the same time, otherwise someone will end up waiting. read more

This is a nothing fancy place however, the Hummus is far and away the best I have ever had. I cannot figure out what the ingredient is that makes it so good. I have tried a lot of variations of recipes but nothing comes close. Texture wise it is also the smoothest. Everything else here is good but it's the Hummus that gets it the 5 star rating. read more

I've been here with my friends and on a date with my boyfriend and I always get the beef and lamb shawarma plate. It's very good and filling. For dessert I finish off with a baklava! The service can be slow, but can be fast where the food can be ready in five minutes. It's good for lunch and dinner and on a nice day, go out to the patio to eat there. read more

Great falafel wrap! I requested no tahini or yogurt sauce, and this is one of the very few places that actually takes out the sauce! The wrap itself is huge, comes in a wheat like wrap, it's got a brown marble color, and is stuffed with four falafels, lettuce, and tomato. I ate the whole thing, it was so tasty. Also came with a couple interesting pickles. My friend ordered the falafel plate and liked her dish as well, it came with 6-8 falafels, salad (cucumber yogurt), hummus, and bread with dipping sauce. Aww yeah, falafel burritos. I love me some falafel wrap. I like the food here in general,but their falafel seems to be the best-- it tastes fresh and moist on the inside. The wraps are nice and big and can easily last me two meals (if I can have self control!). The lamb is good too, and I really enjoy the tabouleh (I recommend that as a side over some of the other mushy things, but that's personal preference). It's pretty much great comfort food. Next time I go, I want to try their cucumber yogurt sauce. I have to agree with Kristine D. that the food looks better in person than on the menu, but it's useful to have the pictures there so you know what you're going to get. I also really enjoy the mysterious magenta pickled vegetable. What is it, anyway? Maybe kohlrabi?? This place is GOOOOD. We went in as a group of six and ordered pretty much everything on the menu. The Chicken Shawarma and the Veggie Delight really stood out for me in particular. I also thought their Falafels were really well-made and delicious, so getting a falafel plate to share would be a great choice as well! The staff is friendly, but I don't think that much of the wraps. I suppose it's neat that they offer both spinach and whole wheat wraps, but the meat has a similar flavor to that of Med Wraps in Palo Alto. Probably has something to do with coriander, but I don't have the words to describe my palate. Nevertheless, I think the flavor of this place is more similar to Med Wraps, whereas Gyros House tastes more like Gyros Gyros. read more
