I am hooked on their fresh milk tea mix here. They have a variety of flavors and so far I have tried the mango mix and loved it. It is so good and refreshing .This fresh milk mix has a variety of egg pudding, mango boba and jelly in a blended milk smoothie. One other thing, I find the layout quite odd and the ambiance lacking. Will not be returning to this place when I can get better tea down the street, literally 1 block away (Ding Tea). Decided to try this place out given the high yelp reviews, but I was so turned off by my experience. It is in the tiny Senter plaza where parking is tight and a one way street to fender benders. For me to even return to that plaza/parking lot, Meow Tea would've had to have been phenomenal for me to risk car damage from careless drivers. The place was empty and also dark/dimly lit, no customers or even employees in site! I stood at an empty register until I rung the bell a few times for an employee to come take my order. I got a couple of jasmine milk teas, which I feel is a good easy standard to compare all my milk tea places, because how hard is it to make a simple green milk tea? I also got mozzarella sticks because I needed to reach the credit card minimum. My friend and I did not enjoy the jasmine milk teas, it tasted too milky and had no tea taste. The mozzarella sticks were good, but again, how can you mess up frying frozen foods. All in all, the place felt very unwelcoming. It was dark, a bunch of storage boxes in the back corner, and a weird layout where they go in the back behind this big wall to make your drinks and nothing can be seen. I've been to Meow Tea a few times and I definitely recommend it. Although I've tried a few of their drinks, my favorite is the fresh oolong milk tea with MILK pudding! It's located in the Senter Market area and is pretty small, but it's hard to miss the big cat that is on their sign. The owner is absolutely adorable and friendly that you can't help but smile when you meet her. You can tell that she is dedicated to this store and determined to be successful because she is constantly asking for customers' opinions and adjusting their drinks to their preferences. In addition, she is always improving her menu to be able to serve popular drinks but also offer new items for the adventurous. You can even ask her to surprise you and she just might make you a drink of her own creation. Oftentimes, she will give free samples of possible new drink items to customers to get a feel for interest/disinterest. If you ever get a chance to talk to the owner, you'll find out that she has experience with milk tea (or whichever name you prefer) from working at multiple businesses and from being an avid customer herself. It was a light pink color, not dyed red or any dark color. It looked like it was made from the real fruit, so I asked how sweet it was. The boy behind the counter said it's not really sweet, then I knew for sure I had to try it! It was a light, refreshing, watermelon icy, with chewy aloe bits in the bottom. (Boba adventure is never boring, isn't it? ) First impression of the cafe: They tried to be neat with their interior design, but I personally felt like the walls were too bare. This is my first time here! I really enjoyed the drinks and the customer service. We walked in and noticed the big menu poster. We were intrigued by the "popcorn fish" under the snacks category. I've only tried two things from the snacks menu which was fish roe ball and popcorn chicken let's say easily one of the best places to get those two things bc not only was the price great but the portion and taste was all there. Definitely recommend. As for the drinks I've tried meow tea mi, matcha dream, avocado and strawberry smoothie, jasmine milk tea, and oolong milk tea. None of the drinks disappointed, on top of that they have a great variety of toppings that are only 50 cents, most milk tea places now are really pricey. It's not anything fancy but their drinks are more than satisfying. I've come to this place more than a handful of times and so far the customer service has been great. I recommend their Fresh Milk Mixes which come with a myriad of toppings (the swirls look nice, but I'd shake up the drink to mix the syrup well), or stick with Classics. The prices are also GREAT! This is one of my favorite milk tea spots and it is really underrated. I love that they have a "buy two, get one for free" promotion for their drinks. So far, I have tried their milk mixes like brown sugar, caramel, and meow mix. Their drinks are a little on the sweeter side. However, you can adjust the sweetness to your liking. I've been waiting for a place that had some kind of drink or dessert with LOTS of pudding (whenever I asked for extra...it was never enough...). Meow tea has both egg pudding and milk pudding. For those who don't know what pudding is, think of American jello and pudding combined...so the taste of pudding and the firmness of jello, but a little softer. The difference between egg and milk (besides what their names entail) is that the egg is sweeter and softer where as the milk is firmer and ..fresh tasting haha, & less sweet. They have a drink that's called the Fresh Milk Mix with unlimited toppings. It's milk slushy with caramel drizzle and whatever toppings you like, but the most preferred mix is milk/egg pudding + boba. Such a good mix! I have a sweet tooth so I loved the caramel but she said you can ask to have it without caramel so try first and add it after so you know how sweet it is. My sister had the strawberry green tea. The owner said they use strawberry syrup, but brew real green tea and add in real bits of strawberry. The green tea was definitely strong! I usually don't like any fruit tea besides peach but the strawberry here is a winner. Since it's their soft opening, they also offer samples if you're having a hard time committing to a drink! The workers are very nice and help you out a lot/will check on you in case you want your drink remade and inform you about the drinks so I didn't even have to ask any questions because she came out and explained everything to me off the bat. The parking is terrible in this tiny plaza filled with tiny shops! But we were lucky and found a spot not too far from the tea shop. Came here only because it was close to the 85 Bakery we were just at that day and the ratings for this place is pretty high. Upon entering the shop, we were hit with the pungent smell of deep-fry oil. It just enveloped the entire place in that smell and made me feel icky :/ We were the only customers at that time and although the cashier was nice and took our orders correctly, I don't know what happened in the back... The wait was a little longer than expected since we were the only two customers in there, but when it finally came out, I was happy to leave that deep-fry vat. (Jfc, I am not kidding about the smell!) When we tasted our drinks in the car, we were severely disappointed. I ordered one of their top drinks with coconut and mango, but it just tasted like a really sweet coconut milk drink. I didn't even finish it; it was that sweet/ bad. Wow let me just start to say, I have never been to a boba shop as unique as Meow Tea. I am not talking about the menu or the decoration or even the quality of tea. Though all of that is superb, I was blown away by the hospitality of the staff. My friends and I were getting some viet food for dinner in the area and wanted a place to watch the Warriors game afterwards. We came to Meow Tea to get some boba first and when we entered the store, there was a huge crowd gathered in the middle of the shop watching the game. The workers were so friendly and immediately pulled up chairs and tables for us to join them. They even gave us chips! How cute is that! I got the peach oolong crema which is a refreshing peach oolong ice tea topped with a layer of creme that went so well together. The more you drink it, the more the two layer mixes and it turns into a peach milk tea but it doesn't hide the flavor of the peach (which is pretty subtle) that milk itself would completely obliterate (unless you're using peach flavored syrup). We watched the game and we cheered together. Everyone else that came in, they invited them to sit down and offered them snacks. It was like a giant happy family. I've never imagined I could watch a sports game at a boba shop so this was definitely a first. It was lots of fun as well! When the warriors won, we left and they even said, see you guys Sunday for the next game! I would totally come back here for their drinks as well as say hi to the workers who are awesome!! I was actually excited to try this place since it's close to my place and the reviews of the fresh milk teas aren't bad. I went there just now and saw no one behind the register, but there was a group of people playing cards at one of the tables. I thought maybe they were customers but when I asked to see if they happened to know where the employees were, one of the people told me I had to go to the back to find someone. First, that was a little of a throw off. As I was walking to the back, I heard one of them say that they worked there too. That was certainly a throw off because even if they weren't on their shifts, someone could've at least went to get the employee instead of having the customer do that. I decided to leave because of the very poor service. I said I changed my mind and as I left, I heard one of the guys said something along the line of, "Oh, there was only one anyways." It was nice enough that I didn't say anything because I tried to be understanding but clearly, I will never come back. Finally decided to give this place a go since they recently opened again after reconstruction I believe. I was a little hesitant to try the milk teas and honestly came to try their fishballs. However, I was pleasantly surprised. My family got the rose milk tea, thai tea, and jasmine milk tea. All of them were good but I would definitely say that if you don't like your drinks as sweet to get it less sweet since their drinks are more sweet than usual. As for their food I had the onion rings, curly fries, cheese sticks, and fishballs. The food was good but kinda salty so I would definitely ask for less seasoning next time. They kept asking us if we liked the drinks and her son is even more cute, so social and kept talking to us about a super secret kids drink that he wouldn't tell us what it is because we were "adults". So customer service is an A+. The drinks itself were good, but because San Jose has an endless amount of boba places, I have had better. Not a disappointment though. We got jasmine tea with creama, honey jasmine tea with creama, and iced milk drink. All not bad! However, I would not go back because the price for my jasmine tea with creama was $4.68. That's a little steep especially for my drink not having any toppings either. Overall, it's worth a try. read more
