Was working nearby and saw this place had just opened, so I figured I'd give it a try. The cashier and the workers in the kitchen all greeted me as I walked in. They were very friendly and made sure I got everything I needed. I ordered the Pulled Pork Adobo Bowl with Garlic Rice at the front, and went to the very nice patio in the back where the tables were. I saw the workers make sure everything was clean, so I'm sure it'll stay that way. The pork adobo was tender and delicious. The garlic rice was good, but I didn't really taste the garlic. Booked through Chase Dining for a random date night with the wife. Enjoyed the ambience, and staff were amazing (can't ask for more). Thank you for the hospitality. My wife is gluten/grain and dairy intolerant so it's always nice when restaurants have options to accommodate. We ordered the curry and instead of rice, they were able to provide sauteed tofu instead. I was bummed that the Grilled Beef Tenderloins were not on the menu when we visited. It was what were looking forward to. Flavor weren't too heavy and portions were just right. Overall experience was good and would come back for a party to order different options. It was the evening and the wind picked up, unfortunately the heat lamps were not working on our side (would've been more comfortable, but we blame ourselves for not layering up. It is always good to go to a place with an open-air Patio in San Francisco when it's not raining. On Townsend street in San Francisco there was Primo Patio Cafe which I frequently went back in the days for pitchers of sangria and tapas and nextdoor was Victor's Mexican Restaurant were everyone was referred to as Guapa or Guapo( I was referred to as Don Juan Guapo) . Both restaurants are now gone and now what replaced Primo Patio Cafe is Mestiza which serves meats and plant-forward flavors and different dishes inspired of the Pacific Rim and the Philippines . The patio at Mestiza has more open space than the old Primo Patio Cafe patio. Mestiza also has better art work in the patio. Mestiza has a good drink and food menu. I got the main plato (plate) the Mushroom Sisig a hidden dish gem which has carrots , crispy rice noodles, grilled jalapeño , and wild mushroom. It was served with a side of jasmine rice. The broth sauce of the mushroom Sisig and rice was savory and tasty. Each layer of the Mushroom Sisig has different types of delicious flavors ( mushrooms are my jam). It was kinda chilly and we asked if the heaters could be turned on. We got the Shrimp Gambas and Braised Pork Adobo. Food was very flavorful and the servings were pretty big. My friend and I got the small family meal (Malaait Pamilya Meal) and ordered the: lumpia, mushroom sisig, braised pork adobo, garlic rice, and atchara. I was pleasantly surprised that the lumpia was perfectly crisped and that the laman inside was well seasoned. The mushroom sisig was just okay, I prefer real sisig (can skip honestly). The braised pork adobo IS A MUST GET. This was my favorite thing on the menu. Perfect amount of acidity/vinegar flavor that you get with traditional adobo and the meat melted right off. The garlic rice could have had more garlic. I think traditional fried rice includes a lot of flavor but this was not hitting the bar rather just barely made it. Not bad though. I did not like the atchara at all despite the server recommending it as it was their most popular item. I think it was TOO coconut flavored. Traditional atchara has just a hint. It seemed like I was drinking coconut milk rather than having that atchara mixed with vegetable taste. Overall the ambience was great and I'd be interested in trying the other items on the menu but wouldn't designate this as a authentic filipino restaurant rather a nice upscale in between. read more

I came here from Ohio while visiting family for Thanksgiving week. The establishment is small, yet the seating area is outside with a thin ceiling that lets the light in. What really ties the dining area together is a beautiful mural of a dancing woman. Truly a work of art. Our server, Sharon, was an absolute sweetheart who was attentive in every step of the way. We ate from the lunch menu and I had BBQ chicken Inasal skewers and their chicken house lumpia. The chicken was a little dry at the tips, but was juicy and sweet as I ate more. The lumpia was my favorite, both light and perfectly crispy. For my entree, I had the braised pork adobo rice bowl. The rice was well-cooked, but the pork itself did feel dry the more I chewed it. I do wish it was more juicy and moist. Otherwise, I had a great experience as this was my first time trying Filipino food in my life. They only have outdoor seating, but they've made it super cute with lots of plants, wall art, and string lights--really nice vibe. We got the lechon bites to start, and they were super tender and flavorful. It came with a clear sauce that was tangy and spicy. What an amazing spot. Came with 3 other friends for kamayan and greeted with a welcome drink calamansi + Thai flower with cava or soju. The bartender and servers were all great. Started with shrimp chips and vinegar. Chef dropped off our kamayan and explained the offerings. I loved everything, my favorite were the fish and curry dishes. The service was great considering that we were there early for brunch time and were the first and only customers at that time. The foods we ordered was what Filipinos call a Boodle Fight. Its usually done for big celebrations and get together. The table/s are covered with banana leaves and then the rice, and all the entres are all piled on top arranged in an appealing order to the eyes, as well as the mouth! The fun part is you eat with your hands! You also have options for utensils, but in boodle fight dining, that is boring! The meaning of mestiza means mixed race, so this was not your traditional Filipino menu. It was more of fusión style. There were more plum salad, vegies, than usually pinoys are used too. We had steak instead of pork belly, which my traditional party preffered of choice. Their Boodle Fight entres were Chef's choice. So it was a total surprise to us when the set up was complete. We also enjoyed the cucumber salad that added just the right acidity as our sawsawan. We loved the adobo and the pancit was just the way I like it, with lots of veggies! Omg this place is amazing. Asked some colleagues about a great place to lunch and they all said MESTIZA in sync. I grabbed a pork adobo bowl with garlic rice to-go. It was fresh off the stove and tasted as delicious as it smelled. Soooooo good. The pickled veggies on the side were a nice touch and the salsa not too spicy but just the right flavors. I love to eat good, interesting food when I visit the city and was excited to try Mestiza with my family. First off, the service was super! I am embarrassed for not getting the name of our main server (possibly owner??) but she was so warm and accommodating (we had a second server that was equally personable)...offering options for our kids in case they weren't fans of the bigger flavors in the dishes we were ordering...but the kids found plenty to love! The chicken skewers, pork adobo, pancit, chicken lumpia and of course the seasoned fries were all well received by the kiddos. The food was all fresh and delicious. In addition to the dishes already mentioned, we had the shrimp gamba and a really yummy spicy slaw. Also amazing was the soft serve dessert...pineapple with a caramel drizzle (they were out of the coconut topping)...that caramel sauce was dreamy and the dessert could easily rival the mega amusement park version we all know and love. The dining patio is pretty small, we lucked out and were able to be seated right away at 530 on a Thursday but if you know ahead of time you're headed to Mestiza you'd be safest making a reservation. I really wanted to like this spot as it's in my neighbourhood and the menu looked very unique and interesting. Instead this turned into a 2 hr slog for very disappointing food. Cons: Excruciatingly slow service - The space between consecutive courses dragged on for 20-30 something minutes. Very disappointing food. (I ordered the gambas entree which was the only half decent thing in my 6-course meal) But worst of all : A pre-fixed menu which isn't advertised on their website or at the door and you only figure it out when they seat you. This was very off-putting as this came across as false advertising. I felt locked into a deal I didn't want but we had waited for over 40 mins so we didn't want to leave Pros: The space is very cute and cosy and could be a great draw! A lot of care has been put into the colorful decor, plants, and gorgeous mural that frame the outdoor dining area. Their menu is plant-forward, which made our family of vegans very happy. We started with the veggie pancit with vegan kofta, and it was delicious. My calabasa coconut curry was wonderful, and I took home leftovers, because I wanted to try their dessert. I wouldn't recommend you to have or eat the Pulled Pork Adobo is the worse taste I ever had and they have soup on it, and the Garlic Race is hard to eat the race is look like isn't done cook yet.
