We loved this place!! Sat at the counter on Monday during lunch time and the place was packed with a short wait for a table. The staff in the open kitchen was working hard cranking out the best looking food. The waitresses were SO nice and friendly!! I got the chicken biscuit sandwich and a cinnamon bun pancake on the side (1). The pancake was amazing!!! I could have never eaten more than 1 but the one I had was perfect and did not need any syrup. I criticized my bf for ordering chicken tenders for his last meal in Raleigh but they came out looking amazing!! He is still thinking about them now, he asked for their hot honey to be drizzled on them and he loved them, he loved the seasoned fries and the creole honey mustard. The tenders were huge and juicy. Checked out the Metro Diner in Raleigh yesterday. Great quick and kind service. Food was pretty good, tried out their holiday special of their chicken and waffles. This has been bookmarked on my list of places to go for breakfast for a long time! When you arrive and sign in, you give your phone number along with your name and get a text when your table is ready. On this Saturday morning, we waited 35 minutes although we were told it would be around 45 minutes. I ordered the fried chicken and waffles and my husband ordered the San Francisco eggs Benedict. A big thank you to the reviewer who recommended adding mushrooms and onions to the hashed browns that came with the eggs Benedict! The fried chicken was excellent but the waffles were just ok. The portions are huge! One order includes 4 pieces of fried chicken - wing, thigh, drumstick & half a breast! Our server asked if we wanted to try a sweet & spicy sauce for the fried chicken. When we said yes, he mixed maple syrup and hot sauce in a small bowl. Wow!! It was so good!! My husband thought the eggs Benedict were just ok, but he loved the hashed browns with the addition of grilled mushrooms & onions! We had the most amazing server, a guy named Nghi. He was excited that it was our first time and was incredibly friendly and helpful. He said it's a lot less busy on the weekdays. We plan to be back to try their lunch menu. read more

When we first started eating Metro two years ago we were blown away, but it has slowly gone down hill. Once it was the dried out and hardly iced bread pudding...Take into account tonight...I ordered a BLT sandwich that not only had floppy (that undercooked cheap bacon they you get at Wendy's) but no mayonnaise even though indicated to have Mayo, and ONE piece of tomato...It's a joke of a BLT. Not even cut in half...yeah we got our order in at the last few minutes but that doesn't mean you give us a shi* order. In addition to that, they don't give you the option to customize your entree on Uber eats, grub hub etc. It would be nice to be able to request extra Mayo for your sandwich (that is if you even get it in the first place) or request crispy hash browns. Just all around bad experiences with Metro and it's so disappointing. read more

A friend took me here for breakfast and the food was absolutely delicious. The wait time was about 45 min and it was worth every minute and penny. Once you're seated, the server takes your order and the food is brought to your table in about 10 min (it's quick!). The atmosphere is pretty laid back and our server was awesome. I can't wait until the weather warms up to dine outside. By the way, once you're placed on a wait list, the hostess will text you to let you know when your table is available. First of all I love metro and I came here and ordered a croissant turkey sausage and egg and cheese sandwich with homemade fries the food came out and I realized I had a pile of burnt potatoes I don't know what happened to the potatoes but they was not appealing than someone else order potatoes and they was fresh and not burnt I didn't say anything to the waiter because she was busy and I tried to eat a few but I just couldn't so I asked nice to remove it off the ticket but my thing is if you won't eat it why would you send it out the kitchen and it wasn't even HOT it looked like it was 3 orders that was sitting in the grease too long so they piled it up on my plate because they needed to get rid of it smh shame on you please don't send it out the kitchen if you won't eat it !! read more

Went here for brunch and it was packed. They told us it would be a 40 minute wait but I'm sure it was quicker than that to be seated so don't get discouraged by the wait. While I'm not usually a fan of chains, Metro Diner is the exception. This chain of diners from Florida is definitely a welcome addition to the Triangle. While they certainly don't serve a menu that's fusion, farm to table or gourmet, what they do serve is excellent, classic American cuisine that's hearty and filling. What I love about Metro Diner is their breakfast. You should try to go early, the place is usually very busy with a line waiting outside. Grab a seat at the counter and order up some eggs, sausage and hash browns (shredded potato) along with some white gravy. They usually also have some great specials, their chicken and waffle includes a HALF chicken and their pulled pork mac stack includes a heaping pile of barbeque over mac n cheese and a cheddar waffle. Do not come here if you're on a diet! And given the volume here, the staff at Metro Diner is super well trained and efficient. They will get you in and out quickly with attentive service. So as much as I'm NOT a chain restaurant fan, the Metro Diner fills a major need in Raleigh offering up great breakfast plates at a decent price. A-List for weekend brunch! If you are on a wait list, they have ice water and coffee. There is a specials menu posted, which included Mimosas and Bloody Mary's for 2.99. I split my meal and it was still a lot of food. The sausage gravy had such a good flavor. As did the biscuits. My daughter had the special which was Fried Green Tomatoes Benedict. So good! I especially liked the notification when we were on the wait list and could see how many parties were ahead of us. Very reasonable prices for a BUNCH of food. Definitely coming back. read more

This is a small number of chain diners ! Well established, good food but typically very busy....

Well, it was about the most inoffensive huevos rancheros I've ever had. By that I mean that gramma would probably like it. Yes, there were jalapenos - fried - which were OK. The tortillas were fried light and airy rather than just plain flour or corn. Now's where they fell a little short (in my opinion) - bacon. This may be the most difficult thing I've ever written - bacon does NOT go in huevos rancheros. Love bacon and all - it's probably the second best thing ever - but it seemed that there was an expectation of chorizo and it was a massive letdown to find bacon. Wait! What is that? Is that...kielbasa??? Yup. Instead of chorizo they put in kielbasa. Wow. Now, before somebody removes me from Yelp, let's say that it was good. It actually tasted pretty good. Sorta like Panda Express is to Chinese food. Relatively tasty, but no way near authentic. My wife's food (Belgian waffle and bacon) was good. So would we be back? Absolutely. Visited this place for the first time today and decided to go with the Cinnabon pancakes, my mom had the chicken and waffles along with a few mimosas. This place is quite busy , we had about a 15 minute wait. The portion size was pretty big. The only minus was the pecans on the pancakes but other than that quick and good service, will visit again soon . read more

My oh my - will i be coming back here AGAIN AND AGAIN! Must try: Fried chicken, oh so good, huge pieces of chicken and the batter was so flavorful. Not greasy AT ALL. this is probably one of the best fried chicken i have ever had in my life. I truly enjoyed this dish and it was the favorite thing our table of 4 ordered. My second fave was one of their specials which was the Spicy chicken benedict. Two strips of chicken tenders, perfectly fried and battered on the english muffs, topped with poached eggs, hollandaise sauce served with their potato hash. Third was the awesome side of french toast topped with their famous strawberry butter (and i asked for extra). This was definitely delicious to ask to be topped on their waffles and pancakes as well. It was so creamy, and packed full of strawberry flavor WITH chunks of fresh strawberry pieces in it. We love the food and the service at Metro Diner and we will certainly come back!!!! read more

My daughter and I went for dinner around 5:30... no wait but it was full with a line by 6 pm. The service was friendly and efficient. She was attentive and brought refills before we asked. The food was the star of the show. I had chicken and waffles and so did my daughter. There was so much chicken, I needed a to go box. I am so completely disappointed in my experience with Metro Diner today. It was the worst. The service was nonexistent. The girl---yes, I said it--GIRL who was the "to-go" cashier was just as rude and nasty as she could be. I called Metro initially around 11 a.m. and spoke with this person who immediately put me on an indeterminate hold for so long I eventually hung up and called back a little while later. I spoke with another young lady who took my order immediately and gave me my total. The first woman that I'd spoken with had the audacity to call my office back and ask me how was I going to pay. HUH??? Cash or card? I had both and told her so. She says, "The reason I ask is because you have a large order and if you don't pick it up we'll have to pay for it." Again, HUH? I was ordering food for my coworkers, so why in the world wouldn't I come get it??? I tried being nice, to get her out of her bad attitude, but she wasn't having any of it. So finally, I told her I was on my way to the restaurant and hung up. I have spent hundreds of dollars on group orders from Metro, and they've always treated me with such kindness and respect! What happened? I spent over $100 for food for my coworkers and myself, and because the cashier ignored me and intentionally made me wait while she did everything but give me my food, everything was cold when I got back to the job. My shrimp and grits looked like some kind of soupy mess. The french fries were cold and soggy. I had to throw them and the boneless wings in the air fryer to crisp them up again. Metro, please do better by your customers. I recognize that you do a robust business, and perhaps you guys just had an "off" day. It pains me to leave a less than stellar review for you, but the last two times I have made group orders you have missed the mark by not giving me all of the meals I ordered, but this particular experience was beyond subpar. I hope to come back in the future, but it may be a while before I do so. read more

I went with my friend because she kept talking about how good the fried chicken was. I was not in a chicken mood, I wanted breakfast so I got the steak bowl. It comes with steak over potatoes with eggs and cherry tomatoes. I was not impressed at all, my steak tasted sour and I did not like the grits. I did however taste her chicken and it was really good. She told me that normally there is away but we walked right in and got a table it was probably around 1 o'clock on a Sunday. If you go here I would definitely suggest getting the chicken. My boyfriend and I were excited to try this place for awhile now after all of the great reviews. We made the 30 minute trek today for breakfast. We arrived around 9:00AM and it was busy, which is always a great sign. We had a 20 minute wait for a table. The hostesses were happy and pleasant and we didn't mind the wait. We were seated at a small table and were promptly greeted by our waitress. She seemed great; she asked us if this was our first time at Metro Diner and we said yes. She immediately started pointing out the favorites on the menu and took our drink order. A few minutes later, she brought back our coffees and tea, and stated that she would be back in a few minutes for our food order. There were so many delicious breakfast choices!! My boyfriend ordered the Bissell breakfast with hash browns and extra crispy bacon. I ordered the Crab Cake Benedict with hash browns. Our waitress stopped by to refill our coffees and tea, and that was the last time we saw her (more on that in a bit). A server brought out our food and it looked AMAZING. I couldn't wait to dig into my crab cakes, and my boyfriend was happy that his bacon was super crispy (you would be surprised at the number of restaurants that don't know how to do "extra crispy bacon"). The Manager stopped by our table and asked how our food was. Of course we both said it was great!! My only complaint is that my hash browns were a little too done, but I still liked them. We both finished almost all of our food, and we were full and happy. Then the wait began. We watched our waitress take meticulous care of all the tables around us, asking them if they needed anything, how their meals were, if they wanted more coffee...she never came back and asked us any of those things! We literally sat at our table, food and drinks were gone. There was no reason for her not to check on us. 10 minutes go by, 20 minutes go by, and nothing. She brought out checks for everyone but us. We tried to get her attention, but she refused to look in our direction. It was very strange. So finally, after almost 30 minutes of waiting, feeling like we had the plague, we got up and walked to the hostess station to complain. The hostesses were shocked when we told them that we never received a bill or repeat service from our waitress after such a long wait. They went and grabbed the Manager, a sweet woman named Brittany (the same woman that checked on us earlier) and we explained our situation to her. Brittany was mortified at our experience, and told us she would pay for our food. We graciously accepted her offer. That was more than generous of her, and she told us that next time we come back, to ask for her and she will take care of it. We never got the name of the waitress that waited on us, but I hope she never treats any other customers this way. The other waitstaff and servers need to be more aware of their surroundings. If they notice a table is not being taken care of, step up and say something. Ask if we need anything, or if they can find our waitress. They should also be walking around refilling coffee mugs during busy mornings, and they did none of that. We will be back someday to give this place another try, but we will definitely ask for Brittany. read more
