I've not had Middle Eastern food since my trip to Israel back in 2008, so when my friend dragged me down to Meze for a quick lunch, I knew I was going to have a terrific lunch. Started off with some of their delicious Hummus, Quicken Breast and the Basmati Rice, and all I have to say is: DELICIOUS! The meal was light, ideal for a fast lunch. I'll describe step by step, meat was soaked in vinegar smells was too strong I guess meat was fresh marinade that's why had too strong smells. Marinated meat is has to marinated and stay for a day minimum, but I guess you guys you don't do that. The same problems with salad, vinegar smells everywhere which is really bad. Really great take out tonight. Had the Lamb Kabob and the Chicken Kabob delivered and it was hot when it got here and the food tasted fresh and really good tonight. Had the hummus and the yogurt. Super fresh. Meze doesn't hit you over the head with garlic like some similar restaurants in LA. One of the best Mediterranean restaurants I've ever had. The plates will fill you up with a fair price. My favorites are the beef, chicken breast and lamb chop plates. Not only are the meats tender and delicious, but the sides are really really good too. They even have cilantro Jalapeño hummus which is a great mix, got to try it! I stopped in last night to place a take out order. I ordered two lamb kabob sandwiches and a side order of stuffed grape leaves. The sandwiches were bland and garlicky. The lamb was chewy and under seasoned. Since I took my food to go, there wasn't really much I could do other than toss my sandwich out. As far as the service, it was ok. I had this place bookmarked for awhile and finally decided to try them. I got the lamb kabob plate which cost me $20 ( $23 with tip ). The hummus had a watery texture rather then a soft smooth creamy one. The lamb chops themselves were cooked well but were lacking a bit in flavor. read more

Went in with my family yesterday and was disgusted by the cooks hygiene practices. I witnessed him clean his sweat, continuously sneeze and use his personal cell phone, while cooking. He was wearing medical gloves but would not replace them. He continued to directly pound the meat with his hands, the same hands he used to make calls with his cell phone, sneeze and clean his sweat off his forehead. Also, I noticed him pick at his ears and nose with the same gloves. A girl came in after us and ordered a bowl of soup and the cook took a spoon for her meal with one hand, then used his other hand to swipe the mouth of the spoon with his thumb. He did this quickly and discrete. We lost our appetite and left. Either the cook hates his job or the people he serves, I doubt he can be that stupid. read more

This is my GO TO place when I'm in Silverlake! The portions are enormous for the reasonable price, but more than that, the food is EXCELLENT! I'm a huge lover of Mediterranean/Lebanese/Persian/Armenian cuisine. I recently moved to Glendale where I can eat at Rafi's, Skaf's and Cafe Bravo and I can say with confidence that Cafe Meze certainly measures up to these places. The chicken breast kabob plate is typically what I order with hummus, Greek salad and dolmas. The chicken is so incredibly tender and the marinade is to die for. So tasty! I always feel fulfilled and totally satiated after a meal here. The owner and main cook are very pleasant too. They always check on my satisfaction and recognize me when I come in. When I crave Mediterranean food out of nowhere, I Yelp the nearest place I can find if I am in an unfamiliar area. The guy at the cashier was friendly which is very important to me, which was a pointer. The food took longer than expected which I didn't mind since the cashier guy kind of gave me heads up. I ordered chicken dark meat kabob plate and chicken breast kabob plate which comes with two choices of sides each + rice + pita bread. When the food came out, I started with the sides which was pretty good, but for the chicken..it was too burnt/dry and salty for my taste. Also, the meat portion is smaller than other kabob places I tried. They do give you a lot of rice which I don't really eat much of it, also they do not offer you hummus and garlic butter when ordering.....so you must ask for it and I believe you pay extra...overall, this place was mediocre. read more

I cannot even believe how terrible this restaurant and their service are--it's beyond appalling. I called to place an order for delivery. Granted, they advertise free delivery, but don't let them fool you, they only sometimes have a delivery person. Their food is mediocre, but I had a long day and didn't want to drive around. So, I placed an order at 7:30pm. I gave credit card information over the phone and was told my order would arrive in 40-45 minutes. So, by 8:30pm, I called again to check on the status and was told the delivery would leave the restaurant in 15 minutes. No apologies, no sincerity. Needless to say, by 9:15pm, my order still hasn't arrived. I called yet again, but to my surprise, the restaurant had closed. This is completely unacceptable. Do not order from this restaurant. I know I will never order from this place or recommend it to anyone. I will be calling and speaking to the owner tomorrow. This is a small restaurant within a small and friendly community-- you would think they would care about their customers, if not their reputation. UPDATE: My food never arrived, and after more than 24 hours, I still never heard from the restaurant. read more
