I've seen a few different locations and have always been curious to try this spot, so after working up an appetite after shopping, I decided to try out their South Coast Plaza location. Upon checking out their sign displaying their Combos, someone quickly came to greet us, go over the Combos, and provide us with a menu to look at. Once we decided we wanted to eat there, we were seated immediately. You scan the QR code at the table to view the menu and place your order. We opted for a Combo A and a Combo B. In each combo you select one item from each of three categories (appetizer, entree, and drink/dessert). For the Combo A, we got the Pickled Cucumber, Chengdu Zajiang Noodles, and a drink. I was surprised how big the cucumber appetizer was! They were tasty and refreshing. The Zajiang Noodles came with some bok choy and an egg. I think it could have used a little more sauce, but it was still tasty. For Combo B, we got the Chili Oil Chaoshou, Tomato Beef Noodles, and a drink. The Chili Oil Chaoshou are more like the chili oil wontons (vs. chili oil dumplings). The sauce has a kick, but they were also good! The Tomato Beef Noodles had a good amount of beef, and it came with sliced tomato, bok choy, and green onions. The broth had a good tomato flavor. My only complaint would be that their posted advertisement says that you can choose ANY drink, but when you order from the QR code, it only gives you a short list of drinks to choose from. read more

The broth had so much flavor and the beef was so so tender that it basically melted in my mouth. I really loved the rice noodles and how it had a soft chewy texture! The chicken fried rice was also really good--we loved how flavorful it was. Chili oil dumplings were also delicious, but it was sweeter than expected due to the sugar in the sauce. I still liked it overall. I understand how Szechuan is a very acquired taste, but I believe this place is a great introduction. The mapo tofu noodles has a very strong mala numbing spice and after a few bites it did get really overpowering. I would recommend the spicy beef noodles for anyone who's still introducing themselves to Szechuan food. This time we got the Tomato beef rice noodle, Beef pickled soup noodle and the Golden soup chicken noodle. The tomato broth wasn't too strong, just the right balance. Some broths you get is very tart but this has a very good flavor. The beef pickled is spicy, but the flavor of it is quite unique and almost addicting! I couldn't handle much of the spice but the flavor kept making me eat it. Lastly, the golden soup broth is very rich and thick. The meat is okay, nothing unique, but the broth carries the dish. The only downfall is the wait is always long. You need to wait a long time to get seated (as with every good restaurants here in South Coast), but you also do wait quite some time for the dishes to come out. read more

An accidental find and unexpected surprise. Went to South Coast Plaza to return an item. We got hungry and saw the long line at the famous dim sum place.
