Mian offers a really enticing combo meal option that is priced between $20-$25. I chose the $25 dollar combo with Chili oil dumplings, spicy beef noodles, and a drink. In today's economy, this is a steal! Portion is really fair and I had leftover. No complaints about the quality of the food. It's authentic and has good flavors.
I ordered the Combo B which comes with a drink, appetizer and a dish for $25.99. I ordered the passion fruit green tea, chili oil dumplings and spicy beef noodle soup. The passion fruit green tea was very refreshing. The chili oil dumplings and spicy beef noodle soup were both flavorful and cooked very well, but it was lacking a bit of spice. To order your food, you scan the QR code on your phone but the staff was very friendly and helpful making sure we weren't having any trouble ordering from our phones and helping us navigate the menu and giving recommendations based on our food preferences. They would clear our table of any extra empty dishes to give us more room. The service was very attentive and friendly.
You know, it really is true when they say, "when one door closes, another opens". Because, as disappointing as it was to have our initial dinner plans foiled by the long line at Din Tai Fung (our fault for not having a reservation, but a two and a half hour wait on a weeknight?!), things didn't turn out all that terribly for us. After all, it's hard to be too upset when it led to us eating at such an awesome spot like Mian! Located on the first floor, directly underneath the perpetually busy Din Tai Fung, what prompted us to come here when we did may have been because it was the nearest alternative we saw, but I imagine we would have ended up here at some point anyways. For one, the decor and the artwork on their walls, in particular, are pretty eye-catching, but mostly, the menu is pretty enticing. Although it may not be super extensive, Mian has a solid selection of dishes to offer, from their Chili Oil Chau Shou, Spicy Beef Noodle Soup, and Mapo Tofu Noodles to their Thousand Year Egg with Tofu, Fried Pumpkin Pancake, and Spicy Beef Rib Noodle Soup. In short, there's plenty to choose from! -- THOUSAND YEAR EGG WITH TOFU I was super excited to try this, but, sadly, it ended up being more okay than great. The slices of tofu were decent, albeit really thin, and the eggs themselves were awesome, but the preserved vegetables on top were a bit overwhelming. -- CHILI OIL CHAO SHOU To me, the portion felt a bit light, but, to be fair, it's also because I just wanted more of this! The dumpling was perfect - the skins had just the right thickness (had a nice chew) and the filling was so meaty. Plus, the chili oil was terrific and had just a touch of heat! -- SPICY BEEF NOODLE SOUP Ehh...more solid than spectacular. The noodles were tender and the broth was decently flavorful. However, the chunks of beef felt a little inconsistent to me - some pieces were juicy while others were a bit on the chewy/tough side. -- CHENGDU ZA JIANG NOODLES While it wasn't the prettiest dish to look at, this tasted great. There was a good amount of meat and vegetables and I liked the slight kick that the sauce had. I just wish there had been more noodles to balance how much meat/veggies this had. Between how good the food is, the solid service (the workers were friendly and quick), and how convenient of an option they are, Mian is awesome spot, whether you're already going to be at South Coast or not. What's more, the prices here are relatively budget friendly as well, especially when compared to how much you might end up spending at Din Tai Fung (ignoring the fact that they're not exactly alike). Add all of that together and it makes me more than a little excited to come back whether it be here or at their outpost back home in the Bay Area!
Food is really good and I need to come back to try more stuff. Price is a little high but that's just cause we at south coast plaza so I give them a little waiver.
4.5 stars I first tried Mian when they had their location in Las Vegas (with free mung bean soup!). I finally got a chance to try this location in South Coast Plaza. There was no wait for a party of two to be seated on a Saturday around 1:30PM. The interior is not that large but there are a good number of tables and the decorations are beautiful. Service was fine but minimal due to ordering via QR code. They have combination deals where you choose an appetizer, noodle dish, and beverage for $20-25 + tax, a pretty good deal. We tried two such combos and enjoyed the crispy cucumbers, golden soup wontons, hot and sour noodles, and spicy intestine noodles. We ordered passionfruit green tea and mung bean soup as our drinks. The food came out promptly. All of the food was tasty with generous portions. The golden soup has the tastiest broth in my opinion, and the mung bean soup was super refreshing. You can't go wrong with Mian for an affordable and tasty meal!
We came here with friends for lunch. Let me start with service and hospitality and that's why the four stars. The service staff, overall, are not that good and not that bad. They are not interested in making this place hospitable but perhaps just wanted to be efficient. But that is the management's choice. Food is good. If not for the service, I would have given this place five stars. All of us liked the pickled cucumber, beef rolls and their Chengdu fried rice. For dessert we ordered sesame balls, and they are delicious. We will come back again and hope the service will be a bit better.
Came for their Combo set deal and it was very filling! The potions are great if you're looking to share between two people and don't want to get exceptionally full. If you order the combo for yourself, you will definitely feel very satisfied. Beef Noodle Soup (8.5/10) Not very spicy, great noodle texture, and balanced broth. This is a great beginner beef noodle soup due to the rich flavors, tender beef pieces, and mild spice. Spicy dumping (6.5/10) Love the garlic flavor and chillies that compliment the dumplings well! However the wrapper was a tad too thick and the filling felt like it was missing something. Beef Roll Pancake (7.5/10) Great flakey texture from the pancake and wrapped tightly into a roll. I definitely enjoyed the balance of cucumber and onions. The sauce used was a tad sweet in my opinion. The service was fast and using the table QR code to check out made the experience accurate and efficient. I enjoyed that there were photos on the ordering page so you can see the dishes! I appreciated the servers for coming to check in with us frequently.
We had dinner here the other night. It is located inside South Coast Plaza on the level below Din Tai. So there is ample parking. The restaurant itself is charming and has a fun vibe. We both got the $25.99 Signature Combo. You get your choice of drink, an appetizer and one of the signature bowl of noodles. For an extra $3 you can add a dessert. We got the brown sugar ginger tea and the passionfruit green tea. Both were so refreshing and tasty. For our appetizers we got the chili oil dumplings. We loved the flavor and the heat on the dumplings. The dumplings themselves were soft and filled with pork. We got the spicy sparerib noodles. I loved the bok choy. The noodles were fresh and bouncy. The meat fell off the sparerib bones. The broth was rich, warm and delicious. For dessert we got the brown sugar rice cakes. Soft, sticky mochi texture and the brown sugar was the right amount of sweetness. The pumpkin cakes were soft and delicious. I loved the grated coconut on top. In addition to the signature combo, we added spicy cucumbers. They were crispy and just the right amount of heat. The vegetable fried rice was delicious and so flavorful that we ate all of it. We also got a cold combo with seaweed salad, wooden mushrooms and beef. It was perfect to break up some of heat from the noodles and dumplings. Wonderful service and large portions will make this your new soup noodle spot.
Combo B is such a good deal. Enough food to feed me and my preteen. Try the mung bean drink- surprisingly delicious! Service was quick, especially since you order your food on your phone. Restaurant is right underneath din tai fung and across from Uniqlo inside South Coast Plaza.
Came here for the all you can eat for $30 OC Restaurant Week deal. True to their word, everything on the menu was fair game (except soft drinks which is $5 more). I ordered all the popular items such as Beef Roll Pancake, Shrimp Fried Rice, Mapo Tofu Noodles, Steamed Egg Pork, Pork Shrimp Fried Dumpling, etc. The dishes were delicious and my mouth had the spicy zing feeling after eating sichuan spices. My favorites were the Mapo Tofu, Fried Dumplings, and Beef Roll Pancake which were all delicious and had a premier flavor. The fried rice could've used more flavor, which is why it's best accompanied by chili oil. Great food overall for a limited time deal.
We tried Mian during OC restaurant week and took advantage of the $30 all you can eat special they offered. The all you can eat included full portioned dishes, anything on the menu. If you wanted unlimited drinks it was an extra $5, which was totally worth it! Food- 8/10. Food was yummy! I loved being able to have all you can eat so we could try many dishes. I loved the cucumbers and dumplings. The rice was a little bland but had a lot of shrimp! The drinks were good, but I wish there was a little extra sweetness to them. Service- 10/10. Everyone was so kind and helpful! Carroll was great and helped us with everything! Restaurant- 9/10. The restaurant had a lot of seating! They had sit down and to-go options. They also had a viewing area where they made the food, which was cool. The restaurant was clean and organized. It's in the South Coast Mall, so there are lots of shops around and parking. We went at 3:30pm and there was no wait.
Ok we are officially pigs. We did the all you can eat Mian OC Restaurant Week. Started strong with the Mian Cold noodle combo, steamed egg with minced pork, sesame balls, chili oil Chão shou, hot and sour chao shou, shrimp and pork pot stickers, shrimp fried rice, chicken in chili oil, and beef rib. We are officially stuffed. Definitely come here when you are hungry and in South Coast Plaza. The staff are amazing! It's downstairs from Din Tai Fung. Happy Yelping!
This chain is finally coming to South Coast plaza. Perfect comfort food! I had: 1. Value combo: spicy beef noodles, brown sugar milk tea, chili oil dumplings, pumpkin rice pancake 2. Pickled cucumber 3. Tomato & beef noodles 4. Chicken gizzard noodles 5. Mango boba light milk 6. Fried Chinese donuts with sweet soy milk - simple yet so delicious!
Always walk by this place and decided to walk in today. Ordered their mapo tofu noodle mild spice and it was really good. The flavors were well balanced. It's a different kind of spice here, more of the "mala"'spice. So if you can't handle heat, make sure you ask about spice level. Love the interior and the food! We ordered the combo A $20 set where you choose an appetizer, entree and drink or dessert that is listed. Chengdu zajiang noodle - Nothing special in terms of flavor but such a relief to your palette after eating the other spicy dishes. Beef noodle soup - the amount of meat was satisfying. The noodles were chewy and beef was very tender. The soup itself wasn't too heavy and had a deep flavor. Pickled spicy black fungus - I really enjoyed this! The noodles here are great, I've tried a few different dishes and they have not disappointed. This time we got the Tomato beef rice noodle, Beef pickled soup noodle and the Golden soup chicken noodle. The tomato broth wasn't too strong, just the right balance. Some broths you get is very tart but this has a very good flavor. The beef pickled is spicy, but the flavor of it is quite unique and almost addicting! I couldn't handle much of the spice but the flavor kept making me eat it. Lastly, the golden soup broth is very rich and thick. The meat is okay, nothing unique, but the broth carries the dish. The only downfall is the wait is always long. You need to wait a long time to get seated (as with every good restaurants here in South Coast), but you also do wait quite some time for the dishes to come out. read more

A few friends and I came here for lunch over Labor Day weekend. I really enjoy Sichuan cuisine and was excited to try their dumplings and they did not disappoint! The flavor and quality were excellent. Our server greeted us right away and had us scan a QR code to view the menu and place our order directly, which made things quick and easy. The restaurant had plenty of seating and a nice overall ambience. My dumplings were to die for. I honestly wish I lived in Costa Mesa so I could have them again and again. My friends ordered the Mapo tofu and beef ramen, and they thoroughly enjoyed their dishes as well. Restaurant is located on the first floor across from Uniqlo. We came around 530 on a weekday and there was no wait. We ordered pickled cucumbers, the beef roll pancake, fried chicken cutlet, steamed egg, mapo tofu noodles, spicy beef rice noodles, and hot & sour dumplings. Out of everything the pickled cucumbers and beef roll pancake were just beyond. They were soo delicious. Honorable mention to the fried chicken cutlet. It was so crispy and thin it was amazing! Hot and sour dumpling had a very strong aftertaste, all we could describe it was as very intense kind of almost too vinegary? But other than that everything was amazing and I will definetly be returning. read more
An accidental find and unexpected surprise. Went to South Coast Plaza to return an item. We got hungry and saw the long line at the famous dim sum place. We went downstairs to see what else was around. There was a shorter line and got seating almost immediately as we were a party of two and the others were larger groups. Never been here before. Scanned the menu and servers were very friendly and helped answer our questions and provided suggestions. My daughter ordered the $25 special and I ordered the $20 one. We ordered extra appetizers. We were hungry and only realized we ordered way too much food. Place was clean, food and drinks arrived quick. We absolutely enjoyed our meal and took home extras. Food was delicious. Service was quick & friendly. We enjoyed the spicy black fungus appetizer, the eggrolls and most especially, the chili oil dumplings. Omg the chili oil dumplings were the best. We both would go back there to order that. Mian Dan Dan noodles. Medium spice. Ordered extra ground pork which probably did not need but my eyes were bigger than my stomach. We both ordered the lime passionfruit tea and it's a new favorite. We feasted and took home leftovers. Finding parking at this section of South Coast Plaza was ok. We were there late Saturday evening and able to find a spot without driving in circles. Highly recommend this place. Yummy . We ordered the spicy beef noodle and Sichuan cold noodle dish and the wood ear cold dish. The wood ear was a bit salty but very flavorful. The cold noodle dish was by far our favorite. Super simple, very tangy and flavorful. read more
Great Mian store inside of South Coast mall. Located on First floor. Smaller store but we came around 7-8 PM when they were close to closing so there was not many people. We have been to their other store locations and loved their high quality authentic noodles. We ordered one of the set meals which included the Zhajiang noodles, one side dish (we chose woodear 木耳) and a drink (we chose green tea lemonade). We also ordered the zhajiang with rice noodles and the Huaxing Egg noodles (soup dish). The zhajiang is one of our favorites, good flavor and comes with an egg and vegetables. Rice noodles can be harder to find so it's nice that they offer the option to customize. The woodear appetizer was fresh and had a nice seasoning, small portion. Huaxing Egg had a nicely cooked egg and good soup. Tastes like Chengdu! Green tea lemonade was solid too, not too sweet. Pretty affordable, and nicely maintained location with good service. Parking was not too bad either, but we came at an off hour. read more

Can we take some time to appreciate how great this noodle soup looks? Gorgeous. My boyfriend and I were brought here because we saw this place on Instagram. The noodles looked so good, so we had to make a visit. This restaurant is located in the South Coast Plaza, so we expected it to be a little busy. Luckily, we were seated quickly and met with outstanding service! I wish I got our waitresses name. She was so attentive, welcoming, and helpful when we were deciding on how spicy we wanted our noodle soup. She suggested that we ordered it mild and she can just bring more chili oil if we wanted it to be more spicy. No additional spice was needed though. It was perfection. I still think about these noodles and can't wait to go back. They have meal deals that are totally worth trying! I ordered the spicy beef noodles with a side of spicy dumplings and a passion fruit tea for just $25!!! Likewise, my boyfriend ordered a similar meal deal-- the spicy beef noodles with a katsu cutlet on the side and Diet Coke. It was a very satisfying meal. read more

I had a good experience overall. The food was tasty--especially the noodles, which were served super hot (I did burn my tongue, so be careful!). They were really soft and flavorful. The chili oil wontons were definitely my favorite dish--so good! Service was okay. Our waiter forgot our drink and didn't bring it until we asked, but once we did, they got it right away. The interior was clean and the overall vibe was nice. I'd come back for the food for sure. read more

Great experience! Our group got Combo B. My order was spicy beef noodles, chili oil dumplings (favorite!), and brown sugar milk tea. The beef in the spicy noodles were so soft, melted in my mouth! Great dish. My favorite from this meal was the chili oil dumplings! Had a slight sweetness to it which was very interesting to the chili oil flavor combo! Washed it all down with the brown sugar milk tea (not pictured). Not too sweet and just right to combat the flavors of the other dishes. Setting of this restaurant was nice! Great decorations to look at while dining. The servers were very helpful and attended to our table multiple times. Great experience overall! read more

This place is something I crave usually on cold days or whenever I'm just in the south Coast Metro area. I honestly think it's a hidden pocket of great flavor at the mall. People seem to line up for din tai fung but they are missing out on mian. It's packed full of flavor , my fav is the hot and sour soup with black fungus - which is a terrible name for ear mushrooms. 10/10 I really couldn't believe how delicious the food here was!! I'm skeptical of "mall" food, but this restaurant blew me away!! We came in on a Friday for their $25 lunch special - we got a drink, appetizer, noodle dish for $25 and added dessert for an extra $3!! This deal is amazing!! Aside from the price, the appetizers were so good! The beef noodle soup was such a highlight for me!! So much flavor packed into this soup! It came out piping hot and lots of meat as well!! This place was delicious. I love sichuan mala spicy food in general and this place hits the spot! The food came out nice and hot and the numbing spice was so tasty. The flavors were fantastic! I prefer the mapo tofu noodles over the beef noodle soup. Probably because I don't think I can find mapo tofu noodles like this anywhere else. I got both noodles at spicy level 3 (the spiciest level) and I think that the mapo tofu was way spicier than the beef noodle soup despite it being the same spicy level. Both were great, but I'll definitely be ordering the mapo tofu noodles next time. Service was solid and the restaurant was nice and clean. You order online by QR code and the food comes promptly. We came in right before last call and they were able to get us situated and fed quickly. Overall this place was great. read more

We arrived 20 minutes before closing so had to place order quickly as kitchen closes 15 minutes before closing. We ordered a braised beef noodle soup with level 3 spicy, and Mapo tofu noodle with level 3 spicy. Both were very flavorful and the spice was totally bearable for me. The Mapo tofu noodle felt spicier than the noodle soup. We also pre-ordered a serving of extra noodles and split between the two bowls. There was enough content and flavor in both bowls to accommodate the additional noodles. Service was no nonsense. We didn't really need anything and couldn't order anything extra since kitchen was closed. Overall a very quick and tasty meal. read more
I took my kids to Mian for a little noodle outing, and they absolutely loved their spicy beef noodle soup. I ordered the Ma Po Tofu noodles and, in true "learned the hard way" fashion, went with very spicy and unfortunately my mouth went numb faster than some of my past relationships. I ended up taking most of it home to tone it down, but the flavor was excellent. The dumplings and cucumbers were also delicious and perfectly balanced the heat. Overall, the food was flavorful, fresh, and satisfying. I'll definitely be back but I'm just ordering it regular spicy next time. read more
The wait had a long line for lunch. We were able to get seated quickly and skip the line because nobody wanted the bar seating. That was a good way of getting people in and clearing the line. The clear broth was great and not too heavy. It was the right amount so you wouldn't be too full. The broth was full of flavor. The ambiance was busy and a bit overwhelming due to the lunch rush chaos. It took a while for drink orders to come through. I would come back to try the other soup dishes. read more

I've seen this place on TikTok and family and friends recommended this place to me! I'm extremely satisfied that I came to try. Got a table quick. You scan the QR code on the table and order from there. My phone service wasn't working, so I ordered on my sister phone. I think you can order with someone if your doesn't work at the restaurant. I got combo A. - Seaweed salad 10/10. - Chengdu zijiang noodles 9/10. - Passion fruit drink 8/10. My sister got combo B. - spicy beef noodles 10/10 - chili oil dumplings. The staff was very welcoming as soon as we approached the front. She took us to our seats and explained how to order using the QR code. I ordered the chicken gizzard noodle (mild). It was the perfect spice level for me. You get hints of the spice but not overpowering. The gizzard was flavourful as well. I might just have to reorder this in the future. read more
We enjoyed our lunch here. It's a little hard figuring out how the ordering process worked but we eventually got it. There's a QR code to scan at your table. This allows you to check out the menu, select your food, and send the order to the kitchen. Every table QR is unique to that table so they know where the food is to go. Everyone at your table that scans the same QR will be able to send their order to the kitchen. The only draw back was it can get really loud in there. Food was fairly good and unique. FYI - I saw the place mat describing the mung bean soup as a hot beverage but it actually comes cold. It tasted like a sweet tea. read more
