I wanted to try Mian Cupertino recently but they were closed for lunch. The next day, somehow I found out that there was a Mian opening in Milpitas. My friends and I checked it out and it was at the former Layang Layang restaurant space. I loved that restaurant and ate there recently too. So sad. We headed over right near opening time but there was already a long line. Anyhoos, the line was a bit slow but my friends and I were eventually seated. We ordered several noodle bowls, pan fried dumplings, and chili wontons. Everything was wonderful and I enjoyed the simple flavors of the food. I couldn't eat the spicy items that my friends ordered because I can't eat spicy anymore. Also, I really wanted the steamed egg that everyone raves about at the other locations but they were sold out. You can order via the qr code or from the server. It was early morning, and upon checking Yelp on what's open, I noticed Mian was. It was around 9am in the morning. That's a big plus considering most Asian restaurants don't open until 10am+. When we arrived, we were the only ones seated, but there were a few take outs. During the morning, they have a very limited menu. It was only appetizers, steamed dumplings and pan/stir fried. That was a little disappointing since I really wanted the chili oil wontons/hot and sour wontons. Next time. The limited menu makes sense since it's still fairly early and I assume the items that weren't available take more time to prepare. We started with the signature cold combo. This was a combination of spicy wood ear, beef in chili sauce and cucumber salad. This was a fantastic dish. The flavor was great and it definitely a great starter dish to get your appetite going. Then we had the pork and crab XLB. They were pretty good imo. The XLB was packed with soup and the filling was good. Not the best I've had. We also tried the steamed shumai with sticky rice and mushroom and juicy wagyu beef onion pie. The shumai is filled with sticky rice and mushrooms, completely not what I was expecting tbh. It was nothing special to me but my wife liked it a lot. The wagyu beef wasn't my favorite either but it tasted pretty good. Lastly, we ordered the soy milk. This was probably my favorite thing besides the appetizer dish. It only comes in a small size but it was refreshing. We definitely want to come back when the entire menu is available. More or less a catch-all restaurant, or an introduction to all northern Chinese dishes. Food quality is average; nothing surprised me eating a Braised Beef Noodle Soup. While the dessert is fairly delicious, this restaurant seems overhyped for what it's worth. Not to mention that their "Michelin Star" is from a Costa Mesa location that didn't earn it back after covid... Environment is decent: fans blowing jn the room (not AC), nice straw roofs and panels lining the walls, and some neon lights to accentuate the place's cool color palette. Same can be said for service: 15-20 min wait for 4 dishes, waiters walking around occasionally or just to bring food, and a fast checkout process. However, no waiters will check in on you or notice that you're done, so you'll have to get their attention if they're available. I'd recommend this place if you're exploring northern Chinese cuisine, but for a more refined taste, look elsewhere. read more

Saw some posts that this place recently opened, and the photos looked great, so we decided to give it a try. When we arrived it was pretty packed, but luckily there were still two tables open so we were seated right away. A waiter quickly brought over placemats that showed all of their other locations, along with pictures that demonstrate how to eat some of the dishes. Nice touch, especially for people who may not be familiar with certain items. They also provide metal cups and a carafe of water with lemon, which was refreshing. To order, you scan a QR code and place your order from your phone. What we ordered: Xiao Long Bao (6 pcs) - These were huge and incredibly juicy. Definitely one of the juiciest XLBs we've had. The flavor itself was good, though the highlight was really how much soup was inside. They also provide a generous amount of ginger, which we loved since most places tend to skimp on it. Spicy Braised Beef Noodles - The bowl was large, so we ordered the mild version since my daughter doesn't like things too spicy. The vegetables were very fresh and still crunchy, which I appreciated since many places overcook them and they get soggy. The noodles were cooked well and there was a good amount of beef. They also let you request smaller bowls so we could share the soup, which worked out perfectly. Juicy Wagyu Beef Onion Pie (2 pcs) - Pretty tasty overall, but some parts were a bit too oily. The name suggests they'd be very juicy, but they didn't quite deliver on that especially compared to the XLB. One thing that surprised us was that although we ordered on the phone, we couldn't pay through it. A waiter had to come by to process the payment. Loved Mian Sichuan. It tasted great and ever authentic. We ordered the two popular dishes - Chengdu Zajiang Noodles and Spicy Braised Noodle Soup. Chengdu Zajiang had that fiery sichuan taste. I got the medium spicy, and it was very flavorful. The minced pork and sauce coats the noodles evenly, so it won't leave you with any dry noodle. The egg was a nice add on top. Spicy braised beef noodle was great. Broth was delicious and the meat is very tender. It was a great dish that will satisfy your craving. We also got the pan fried dumplings. It comes out fresh from being hand made. It is molten hot, so be careful with biting into it. The noodle dishes come out very quickly but be patient with all the dumplings. Mian took me by surprise! I'm not usually a fan of Sichuan flavors because I personally don't love that numbing sensation, but the feeling is mild enough for me and there is a lot of complexity in the flavors. I will be trying more dumplings! RECS: + Chili oil pork wontons ($6.99/6 pcs) were SO good, I regret not getting more. They are silky soft with a delicious pork filling + Beef pancake roll ($10.99) had the perfect ratio of hoisin sauce, and the pancake itself was delicious! PASS: + Chengdu zajiang noodle ($14.99) had great flavor with the chili oil, but personally I felt it was not special otherwise in terms of texture. I don't think these are handpulled noodles + Mee goreng mamak ($16.99) was interesting to try and I did like the amount of protein in the dish. It's not my favorite location - don't think it's as good nor do I like the ambiance as much. I took my mom as she hadn't had it and she liked it and liked it so much, she took my dad and they both liked it. I would recommend getting the non-rice noodles (still good but try it without). For the QR code ordering I was confused and added rice noodles for her and my order when we went. Accidentally stumbled upon this place during their soft opening. I was planning on going to the wings place next door but Mian was very crowded so we decided to give it a shot. Im glad we did. I was pleasantly surprised. We got the dry zhijiang mian and the chilli wontons. Both were packed with flavor and very delicious! The wonton sauce was a little too salty but besides that, it was great. Wish the noodles had more bok choy. Service was okay. We had to ask for water because they didn't serve it to us initially. We came here for the grand opening special: 40% off noodles on Saturday. We got seated within 5-10 mins around 5:30 pm. The restaurant is pretty spacious. Dishes came out pretty quickly. The spicy braised beef noodles were delicious, though 'mild spicy' wasn't spicy at all. The noodle texture was perfectly chewy. My MIL said the zhajiang noodles were a tad too salty and too hard (but I suspect that she generally prefers softer than al dente noodles). My kids enjoyed their noodles, especially the mee goreng. Was going into this thinking it would be kind of mid. I ordered the pan fried pork buns, spicy braised beef noodle, sichuan fried fries, and the soy milk. The spicy braised beef noodle was what I expected it to taste like. Kind of like a vietnamese beef stew taste. It's pretty good. Dipping their fresh dough sticks into the soup was incredible too. The pan fried pork buns were something I did not expect. The bun was slightly thick and sweet, and inside of it was a pork filling that was very juicy. Definitely would get this again. The sichuan fried fries were also very crispy and kind of remind me of another crinkle cut fry from another fast food chain but done 10 times better. Lastly, the soy milk was great. Excited to have an outpost of this restaurant closer to me, although this one sadly does not have Stan's Donut next to it. Strong four stars though I'm rounding up for consistency, cleanliness, and ability to find parking on weekends (unlike anything at the Ranch 99 plaza). All my favorites in one place: soup dumplings, beef roll, beef noodle soup, pan fried buns, Chinese donuts, and soy milk, etc. I do have a favorite version of all of these items at a different restaurant, but usually that particular item is the only strong thing at the restaurant. We finally got to eat here today and everything we ordered was good! The only note I have is for the sauce. It's definitely good, but might not be at its peak flavor -- meaning, it could be better if they enhanced it to where they want it to truly be without thinking how others would react. I think sometimes when I go to any good Asian food spot, I feel there's a bit of a lack of true depth of flavors particularly in their sauces and maybe it's on purpose so that way others who aren't of Asian descent can enjoy it without the true strength of the flavors. Personally IMHO, stay true to your flavors and make it the way you want it to be! It'll taste much better that way. Food Golden Soup Wonton 6pcs - $6.99 The wontons are served in a rich, golden infused pumpkin purée broth, and garnished with fresh green onions. The wontons were steamed nicely, but the broth itself did not seem to pair well together. Perhaps a clear broth for the wontons would have given it a more traditional soup. The beef was thick and subtle with the onions. Given the light filling flavors, it could use a side of sauce to enhance this dish. Roseanne, the manager, was especially warm, helpful, and informed me that my take out order was missing one time that was still being prepared. I waited an additional 20 minutes after receiving an alert that my order was ready for pick up. She shared that the restaurant is currently in its soft opening phase and mentioned that the previous Layang Layang owner retired. Mian preserved the former Layang Layang Malaysian chef and team to support operations and overall quality. Once I walked into Mian, the first thing I noticed was the decor. It made me imagine that I was eating street food. There is plenty of seating since the inside is very spacious. A restaurant known for their noodles. I tried their Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings). I ordered the pork as well as the crab & pork ones for our table. If you are into xiao long bao, I recommend Special Noodle in Milpitas. The beef roll was good if you don't mind the sauce which is slightly sweet. I enjoyed it. The pork soup dumplings though, my mom said were gamey. I think with chicken and pork dishes in a Chinese restaurant, cooking wine should always be added to the meat to get rid of the gamey taste and smell. I did try the crab and pork version of their soup dumplings and it was ok (nothing special), but I agree with mom that marinating the meat with some Shaoxing wine would get rid of the fishy taste in the crab and gamey taste of the pork. The spicy beef noodle I enjoyed. It was fragrant and I'd give it a 4/5. Beef noodle soup is one of the dishes my mom makes exceptionally well. This was my favorite of all the dishes I tried at this restaurant but there's room for improvement. The beef needs to be cooked slightly longer. The broth is good. There were a good amount of people during the holiday weekend. The wait staff are courteous. This restaurant is new. It replaced Layang Layang. Got their signature soup noodles and the noodles were very meh, texture and taste were like those usual store bought machine made dried noodles/instant noodles. Broth was interesting actually and pretty tasty. A lilll bit salty and almost tonkotsu like. Got their pickled veggie and pork steamed buns, the filling was a bit odd in that it was entirely pickled veggie and I wasn't even sure it had pork? Other than obviously tasting the oil. They were also not steamed all the way through... either that or they were left sitting there for a while. For a chain that literally has mian, the noodles/flour character as their name, definitely did not seem like noodles or flour products were their specialty. I wanted to keep my review for Mian- but after a lunch visit and a a couple of takeout orders gone wrong, I can't rate it the five star experience I had the first time I went. I took my family there for lunch, and the food was not good. We ordered the golden chicken noodle soup- beef noodle soup- vegetable dumplings, and the starter plate the cucumbers, woodear mushrooms, and bean curd. The starter plate was so salty, not over seasoned but heavily over salted. The noodle texture was not chewy (QQ) and felt over cooked. The vegetable dumplings were overcooked, mushy, and one even falling apart upon arrival. I chalked it up to an off day and decided to just go the breakfast item route with them. Third time I ordered my normal breakfast spread, and the beef pie was so oily I could barely eat it. Napa cabbage dumplings were not like the first time, with the cabbage cut quite coarsely and seasoning off. Fourth time I ordered a beef pie/ vegetable pie/ Napa cabbage dumplings, soy milk, frozen Shepard's purse big wontons (25) of them, and pork/mustard green baos. (It's not mustard green, it's actually another thing called Mei Gan Tsai their translation is incorrect.) While eating the Shepard's purse wonton last night, I bit down on a hard object in the wonton. Hard. Like. Hurt my back left molars. I spit it out and found a pebble sized hard object ... approximately the size of a 1 carat stone. I took a video of it and photo. Today I called Mian to tell them about it and they requested a photo which I gladly sent along with a video. After receiving the video and photo, their response was that the vegetable in the Shepard's purse wasn't washed cleanly and the foreign object I bit down on in the wonton was a rock. A literal rock. Where are you washing the Shepard's purse vegetable?? They refunded me $24 for the wontons with an apology- so all is resolved. My teeth feel okay - and I hope they tossed their batch of Shepard's purse wontons they currently have so this doesn't happen to anyone else. Having a rock in a wonton is no joking matter. Customer service and handling of it was subpar. Purchased wontons on the 14th of this month. I hope that safety precautions were taken. read more

My girlfriends and I came here as it's in between south san jose and dublin. The location is convenient with plenty of parking and near heytea ;) I ordered the beef intestines noodle because I usually don't have it often at other restaurants. The broth had a savory flavor but not too spicy. The intestines are clean and tender. We shared chicken gizzard together, and it was spicier with heavy seasoning than I thought. We also got chocolate dumplings. This dish came out way too early in the meal, and the waitress took the lid. By the time, we got to the dumplings, it didn't taste as good. Kinda sad! The pan fried pork buns were good. My friend got the ribs, and she didn't expect that the dish provided no noodles.... Very weird.... Not as good of an experience as I wanted. read more

My kids love the dumplings here. I grade a soup dumpling based on meat texture, taste, soup flavor and wrap. Meat taste and texture is good here as well as the dumpling wrap. The soup is way too sweet imo. Tried both the pork and pork mixed with crab. Most of the dishes have a sweetness to it. The noodle quality is qq. The popcorn chicken was pretty bad imo. Came here for brunch around 11 AM, I wanted to try this place since it's new. I was told they opened 2 months ago. I got seated quick. They brought out my Chinese donut without the soy milk. Then brought out the beef noodle. So I just started eating the beef noodle first. It's decent but not the type of beef noodle soup I was looking for. The meat was kind of hard and not very tender. Soup was flavorful though. Noodles were just alright too. Veggies was on point though, tasty and fresh. They finally brought my hot soy milk, maybe they made it fresh? This apparently is a chain in from So-Cal. They just opened up in Milpitas. The noodle is supposed to be fresh... and it does taste really good. Fresh certified. I ordered the spicy noodles and it's good. You do have to pay for extras if you want any meats other than ground pork and fried egg. We orders the braised beef and it's pretty good. The best way to describe this dish is Sichuan Spaghetti. I ordered extra spicy and it was only mild for me but then again I'm a Sichuan fanatic. Came by for a weekend lunch around 11:30am and no wait! Make sure you check their yelp page for waitlist and times. We ordered via the QR code at the table after the waiter explained the specialties since it was our first time. We started off with the pickled cucumber appetizer and I liked their version a lot. Crunchy, fresh, and perfectly marinated. We also had the clear beef noodle soup and spicy beef noodle soup. Good amount of proteins to noodles and broth was very flavorful. We ordered the spicy noodle soup as mild but definitely will try medium heat next time. The spicy and sour chicken dumplings were delicious! 6 dumplings were sitting in a spicy and sour broth. Again the heat level was very tolerable. Our least favorite was the chicken and corn XLB. The wrap was a bit thick and a couple split and lost their juices in the steaming process. They do give a hefty meat ratio though. Service was very good! Super efficient and there was always someone around in case we needed anything. Overall, great addition to Milpitas! Mian definitely lived up to the hype! Most dishes were seasoned well and came out relatively quick all together. I think maybe someone was on break because there were a lot of tables waiting for their food before we sat down but after 30 mins, all the food started rolling out LOL. We really liked the house lamb meat, spicy beef braised soup and the XLB! I thought the chili oil noodles were average, nothing special. We also got the dandan noodles but with the rice noodle, I'd recommend sticking to the regular noodles since the sauce wasn't absorbing much of the sauce. Servers were nice and quick. I had a craving for spicy wonton so I checked out this newish place. The restaurant is surprisingly very large inside. The decor is Chinese paintings on wall paper, tables and chairs were made to look like bamboo, and the kitchen and eating area had the bamboo thatched look. very cute. There was a small crew working but everything was efficient. I ordered by QR code at the table, within a min or two I got my utensils, napkins, and water. And soon after the food orders. I ordered the spicy wonton, a special spicy and sweet wonton, golden noodle chicken soup, and Napa cabbage steam dumplings. All very good. I preferred the special spicy and sweet wontons over the regular spicy wontons. The special dish had a slightly sweeter taste but not too sweet, and the wrapping was thicker which I liked. The soup was surprisingly light because it looked like a curry when it first came to the table. The Napa cabbage dumplings was a nice end to the meal. The dishes before had more flavor and dense to them so it was refreshing to end of a mild dish. Overall, I think this is a great spot for noodles and dumplings. Came here on Mother's Day for lunch and was surprised to get seated pretty soon after waitlisting for a party of 5! The restaurant was much larger than it looked from the outside. To order, you'll need to scan the QR menu; but to pay, you'll need to ask for the check instead of paying through the app. I ordered a spicy beef noodle soup, but it wasn't spicy at all. That wasn't a problem though, as they had hot oil placed at each table! The noodle texture was nice and chewy. With a variety of smaller plates and noodle dishes, I would highly consider coming back to try more of their stuff! read more

Finally try this place out last night. It's good food and very reasonable. The beef noodle were great, but the broth was bland. Also the beef rolls were good but just not a whole lot as compared to other places that I have been to lately. Service was hit and miss. Seems that they were quickly thrust in opening this location. Could tell. Therefore I would suggest coming back once they have worked it out. Might return to see if they have worked it out months from now. read more

3.5? not bad, not amazing ? in grocery outlet plaza chairs & tables were interesting - didn't get any very good pictures though clear broth beef noodle soup - 7/10 beef slices are really really thin :( but broth seemed good & they gave lots of noodles lol xlb - 9/10 def burnt myself but each xlb was p big so I guess it kinda offset the higher-than-normal pricing too dry noodles - 6/10 kinda crunchy noodles threw me off but maybe that's just me - also p oily so beware of accidentally splattering on your clothes water they provide doesn't have ice aw read more

We went on a Friday evening, we went around 6 pm. The restaurant was pretty busy, the food came out quickly. The restaurant was clean and decor was nice too. The pork xiao long bao had a thin outer layer and the dumpling was juicy and full of flavor. The spicy beef noodle soup hit the spot. The broth was light and flavorful as well. We also got the fried pumpkin dessert as well, it's just the perfect amount of sweetness. Crispy in the outside with red bean on the inside with a brown sugar drizzle I believe.
