Wonderful little restaurant. I loved the family feel of the space and the beautiful touches they add like fresh flowers on each table with a tea candle. The entire place was very clean, the bathroom was so nice. The food was delicious. I ordered the Eiffel Tower and it was cooked to perfection, the presentation was striking, and best of all it was delicious. The staff was very friendly, even the chef himself came to our table to tell us he ran our of a minor ingredient. Love this hidden gem! I have been here many times and never disappointed. Came for brunch today and asked for crab cake Benedict; it's not on their menu m, but they make it. Best crab cake Benedict I've had in the entire state! Highly recommend coming here for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. Owner/Chef Michael is typically here and is full hands on. I stumbled upon this place by making a wring turn. I was looking for somewhere new to eat and im so glad i found it. The dining is subdued and comfortable, you can tell this is one of those places that people love but dont want to tell everyone about lest they spoil the atmosphere. The bread was fresh and warm the service was excellent. I had the french onion soup, a dish that has so many ways to make it. It was pretty good, a little too much cheese for my taste but good non the less. The mail course was recommended to me by the waitress and it didn't disappoint. Very quaint and exceptionally good restaurant. Sunday afternoon special of Salmon Benedict. Excellent dish served on a croissant with hollandaise sauce and potatoes. Both had the same and were impressed. Also pumpkin fritters which were also great. Definitely a must try restaurant in north Tampa. You won't be disappointed. Returned with my family for dinner. Not good. Food took about 45 minutes to come out and the sides were cold. Evidently played long before the main dish. Hopefully it was an off night but I'll have concerns about booking Michaels in the future. Backing off a star because of this visit. Very disappointed. read more

I have had the pleasure of hosting three milestone events in our family's history at Michael's Grill located at 11720 N Dale Mabry Hwy, Tampa, FL 33618, (813) 964-8334 and with some degree of guilt I admit that this is the first time I have taken the time to write a review on them. Perhaps my hesitation was because I was afraid that once my "little secret" of how fabulous Andrea and Michael, the proprietors of this independently owned restaurant, have been to work with each and every time I called upon them, how delicious the food was and how beautiful and unique the food presentation and decor they created for each of our catered events were, they would get too busy to accommodate my next event. All joking aside, Michael's Grill is not only the best kept secret in the Carrollwood area for a quiet and delicious lunch, evening meal or Sunday brunch but where they truly do their most impressive work is when it comes to creating a special event for whatever type of occasion you are hosting. All my friends know that I do my homework before I ever embark on any project, be it a vacation, a household purchase or in this case a place to commemorate a special time in my life. After much research on price, convenience, quality & presentation of food and wine, ease of working with the owners and most importantly reliability and the knowledge that my event will receive their utmost attention to detail, I always go back to Michael's Grill. I know after discussing with Andrea and Michael what I require and what my budget is, I won't have to worry about anything regarding my event. At the end of this March, our family had the pleasure of celebrating a milestone birthday for my husband. I contacted Andrea and after a few short conversations, I left her and Michael and their talented staff to create the event I had imagined. They didn't disappoint. All of our 78 guests raved about the delicious food, the atmosphere, the beautiful decorations and most importantly the service they received from the wait staff. Needless to say, I took a bit of credit for the event as after all, I was the smart one who knew exactly where to go for this celebration. The bottle of Groth was an excellent suggestion of our server. She was pleasant but it hurt to watch her struggle with the corkscrew to open the wine. She also kept turning the bottle and dribbling the wine in other than the glass. We all tried to make light of it. The wine was not inexpensive but my husband and I were celebrating with a friend we hadn't seen in over 18 months. We felt bad for the server but she was being so sweet we were not a lot to fuss over it. Restaurants seem to be struggling for staff, so we tried to remember we were all new at our jobs at some point. Michael's has always had some lovely menu items. This time was no different. We all enjoyed our selections. I had the roast beef melt on grilled rye bread with a side of their photo salad. The beef was moist, tender and generous. Michaels has been one of our most favorite restaurants to go to for years. We always look forward to the treat of dining here. Not sure if the ownership changed but the service was not at all what we have been accustomed to. We were ignored for 15-20 minutes after being seated. Twice they tried to deliver food to us that belonged to other customers while still not acknowledging us. They finally determined we had not been served at all and then began the process. I had the salmon Rockefeller which had a red sauce that definitely did not compliment the fish along with a quinoa mix that equally did not blend with the other flavors . Disappointing but we shall return as we would hate to give up our favorite based on one mediocre experience. Not at all, however, what we expected. Update: thank you Michael for your response and offer. We had no intention of wanting anyone to lose their job over one mistake. Equally, we have no expectation of free meals. We only hoped to help you to be able to correct or improve a great restaurant. Thank you for the offer, it is a wonderful customer service offer but not necessary. I always sit outside, no matter the weather and come mainly for lunch and Sunday brunch. Brunch is what this review is about. The usual bread loaf came out with the flavored butter. Hot! Woofed it down. Ordered the Eggs Bennie with house potatoes. Another in my party the Western Omelet with fruit. Coffee for everybody! The Eggs Bennie came out perfectly runny and very tasty. The omelet was great. The potatoes sauteed just so. Everything was fantastic. I have had almost everything on the menu. the fish is fresh. All they cook is fresh and I think that is what makes the difference here. There are no tricks or foolery here, just good, honest, tasty food. Try the she crab bisque. Come here. Michael's is tucked away in the same plaza as Black Rock and the Villagio. The menu is a mix of Italian and American style dishes. The service here is great. The chicken alfredo is great. All the pasta dishes we tried were. I had the steak frites. They were a little under cooked for my taste and I found them bland. This is our favorite brunch spot in Tampa. I'm from the South, and Chef makes grits so creamy that they remind me of home. I always get the traditional breakfast with bacon, biscuit, and obviously the grits. Everything is made from scratch. George gets the She Crab Bisque as an appetizer, and then always chooses one of the omelets. We are stuffed by the end of the meal, and ruined for the day...so worth it. Oh, I almost forgot. The Bloody Mary's are to die for, eat outside on the porch if possible, and ask for Rachel. She's the best in town. read more

We had made a reservation for Saturday evening for outside seating. Who knew it was going to be a very cold night, when we arrived they had our table ready outside as I had requested. My name was written on a card placed on the table which I thought was a nice gesture instead of just reserved. Immediately, our server, Brittany came over and told me she tried to get a table away from the wind. She took our drink orders and brought them promptly. She then said she would try and get a heater from the other out door area. She came back and said none was available but when a table opened inside she would move us inside. A few minutes later the Manager, Joe appeared and said he would try and seat us by the heaters on the other side when available. We placed our orders and Brittany was terrific making a few recommendations. Soon, Joe came back and said he had a table for the three of us. Brittany said she would continue serving us even on the other side. We had a wonderful dinner, the Halibut, Pork Diane everything was prepared perfectly. Joe kept coming back to ensure we had a great experience. We stayed long after everyone left listening to the music from the Wine bar next door. Was probably a nice place 15 years ago, but definitely don't waste your time or money. The servers were nice, but they don't have a cocktail menu- when we requested one, they said, "What drink do you want?" And then, they don't have a bartender, the waitstaff just goes behind the bar and makes the drinks. Shouldn't have been surprised when the gin and tonic came without the lime, or when they were out of bourbon for an old fashioned. The menu is very limited- no salads at all except for the house salad mentioned that comes with an entree. The food wasn't bad, but nothing great. Again, don't waste your time. Our fault for not making reservations elsewhere on a Saturday night. read more

Our group of 4 went last night , (Saturday) had reservations at 7, did not get our food til 8:30. Food was fine but that is just too long to wait. Food kept coming to our table only to find out it was supposed to go to another table. People around us were getting food and done with the meal before we received ours. When the food finally came it was plunked down with a bag on the table. We did not complain as we were with another couple, but we will not be back. The waitress was very informative and just knew her stuff, and looked very young and it amazed me. It's a very popular spot for a business lunch, and it looked like we weren't the only ones that were there for buiiness. I started out with the lobster bisque and it was nice and creamy and pretty good. The catch of the day is usually always grouper, and I did have it in my salad. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Tampa. The food is always fresh and flavorful. This is the kind of place where you can get a delicious meal that is light and doesn't make you feel disgusting afterward. They are constantly creating new dishes. All of their fish is fresh and they have different specials every night depending on what is in season or the "catch of the day." I usually try their specials since they have always impressed me. They have a fabulous selection of wine (I think they get it from the awesome wine shop next door). Best part....they usually have deals for 2 people. You can get two meals, an appetizer, and a bottle of wine for around $35-50 when they are running these specials. Oh, and you can enjoy your meal on their relaxing outdoor patio! I love this place because I am always impressed by their food without spending a fortune. The prices are completely reasonable. I wholeheartedly recommend Michael's. Well we came here because Yelp listed it in the best seafood search engine. What a misleading search result. They have only 4 fish choices. We had Duck and Chicken instead. Appetizer of stuffed mushrooms was disappointingly bland bread stuffing. The Duck was a rubbery half breast with a tasty blackberry sauce. But way too much pepper seasoning as was the half mashed potatoes: wild rice would be a better pairing. The broccoli and carrot side was the best part. Chicken dish was ok. The chocolate creme brûlée was exceptional good, highly recommend. The atmosphere is nice, a little shabby but not offensive. Service was friendly and attentive. We had one glass of wine and an $80 bill seemed high for the quality. read more

Oh, Michael's...it's been a good 4 years since my last visit and I was so sadly disappointed. For years, Michael's was our go-to "finer-dining" restaurant in Carrollwood. We moved out of town for a couple of years, and have been meaning to visit again since moving back We were very early to a movie, so we popped into Michaels for some appetizers. We were seated immediately, but it was a good 8 minutes before the manager noticed we still hadn't been greeted by our server. The appetizer plates on our table were dirty--not spotty, but literally filled with giant crumbs and leftover food as if they just put a clean plate over a stack of dirty plates. We were finally brought drinks (my son ordered sprite, but was brought seltzer or tonic water) and they kept pushing the "$3 apple fritters"--you'd think after the long wait to get our drinks, the dirty plates and bringing the wrong drink they'd have just brought us the $3 fritters as a peace offering. (I say the $3 fritters because she kept telling us what a deal they were at that price.) When our food arrived, it was as good as I remembered, but the off service left me longing for the Michael's of old. I'll definitely give it another chance and update my review accordingly, but this recent experience left a lot to be desired, and that makes me sad because it was one of my favorite places for so long. read more

The experience here was very unique. Not a big restaurant, not very flashy or fancy...but quality is really top notch! These are the kinds of meals and service that leaves one satisfied and happy. We visited for dinner and started with the signature egg roll appetizer, which was unlike any egg roll I've ever had! Really nice dip as well, I would definitely recommend! The bread basket is very good too, freshly baked bread and a tasty garlic herb butter. Now, on to the main dishes, we had salmon (both pistachio and tapenade) at the table and the wild mushroom chicken dish! Very tasty well prepared and full of flavor... compliments to the Chef! Nice quality food served here, worth a visit for a date night, special dinner, or an all round family treat! Dessert was also tasty. I had the chocolate creme brulee! It's disappointing when a restaurant with a great menu and a great chef are negatively impacted by marginal service. I had brunch/lunch today at Michael's with my son and I was really looking forward to numerous menu items as there were many unusual dishes. I narrowed my choice down to crab cakes benedict or shrimp and grits, but Peter, our server, shut down my curiosity when I asked if he knew the menu as I had questions. His answer was "somewhat"; ....OK.....interesting?. I then asked about my two possible choices, to which he said "I don't like seafood". That was it! No additional comments like, customers like the shrimp and grits, or the crab cake benedict is our specialty. With that non-helpful response, I just ordered the special, which was grouper salad. The food arrived and my salad was very good with the grouper cooked perfectly. But, where is our server? No refills of drinks, no "how is your dish", nothing. Finally, Peter comes by almost as an after thought, so I get the bill and pay before having to wait again. If I were rating the menu and food at Michael's, it would certainly be 4-5 stars. But the service we received on my first visit to Michael's, was non-existent. Given the menu and quality of the food, I will give Michael's another chance, but I would hope that the bad service was just a fluke. read more

I was excited to try this restaurant out; had heard great reviews about it. They were quick to get us our table, even a few minutes before our reservation. After that, the experience was downhill. They did not have a great variety of food on their menu. We ordered the fried Brie appetizer, which was way better than expected; it was the only good that came out of this experience. The price for the food was a little over the top. My kids ordered the waffles with chocolate chips for $10, no sides, or extras. I'm expecting a nice size waffle to come out. What came out looked like two frozen waffles bought from the local grocery store. My food was not seasoned at all. I got the filet omelet. The steak was cooked perfectly, but had no taste. The home potatoes were dry and over cooked. My wife's food, ribeye steak sandwich, was dry and the Parmesan fries were a joke, a few pieces of shredded Parmesan cheese melted on fries. Just extremely disappointed for the amount of money that was spent and the quality of service received. We barely saw our waitress. Probably will not come back, not will I recommend this place to anyone. read more
