Got a call an hour before appointment that they had no more loaner cars and had to reschedule our appointment. Mini of Tempe is awesome! My husband and I were looking for the perfect Mini for me and we found a gorgeous red cooper S at the Mini Tempe location. Every other dealer we visited left us feeling angry and cheated. They either couldn't produce the cars we asked for, or kept jerking us around on the price. When we arrived at Mini of Tempe, they were straightforward with their pricing, fair, and didn't attack us in the parking lot. Bonus- they also didn't try to sell us 10 other cars that we specifically said we weren't interested in...Sergio and Charlie gave us exactly what we wanted and provided excellent service. The deal was negotiated fairly, effeciently, and we were driving off in my new car before I knew it! I went back the next week to get some racing (bonnett) stripes on my little racer and had a pleasant experience with their service dept. as well! Derek was very accomodating and gave me a nice Mini to drive while they added stripes to mine. He even threw in a free wash which I used the following week after the dreaded haboob! I had only been at this location for service a couple of years ago and had a pleasant experience, but this was the first time I renewed my lease with them. I must say that the finance manager and the sales manager (Chris and John) were more than accommodating. I had several questions after having leased the car, and they were happy to take the time to sit down with me to respond to my concerns in a way that was pleasant and upfront. They went the extra mile to make sure I felt comfortable with my new lease and their service, in a way that made me feel that they respect and care about their customers. How to ruin a perfectly good car.. I have had the most horrific experience at the Mini of Tempe Service Department. I took my 2006 Mini Cooper for its annual oil change and check up upon arriving from Seattle for the first time on 08 February 2013. That check up came with six recommendations: Fuel Filter, Fuel Injection Flush, Oil Pan Gasket, Crank Sensor O-ring and Dipstick Tube O-ring, Lower Control Army Bushings and Alignment...Cost: $2600 I wasn't even officially signed into my new address located three hours south of Tempe and made an appointment for 25 February 2013, 7:00 am to have all of the recommendations done. The condition of my Mini Cooper before the repairs was one of top performer with no concerns whatsoever. The only dealer who serviced the car prior to visiting Tempe was Northwest Mini, WA. I arrived at the dealer at 7:08 on 25 Feb. and the service department was not open. The staff were all in the shop but they did not open on time and I became confused and thought I got the time wrong. The staff behind the glass doors would not acknowledge me with a smile or a "wait just a minute" look and proceeded to continue to walk around the service area with no acknowledgement of a customer standing at the door. I went back to my car to call the service department and speak with the personnel when someone approached my car. They seemed annoyed with me for being on time and asked what did I want. They finally let me in but at the service desk, Derrick Carter, Service Rep had no idea why I was there for service even though he was the one who made all of those expensive recommendations. The staff did not greet me with any type of welcoming smile or good morning. In order to get to my appointment on time I had to get up at 3:00 am and be on the road by 4:00 am because I was coming from Sierra Vista. I believed in Mini dealerships and their service before this experience and trusted their expertise. By 1:30 pm I got my car back. The car was returned to me not with the usual explanation of services rendered I was used to from Northwest Mini. Derrick had no interaction with the customer during payment and did not thank me for my business. These flaws in customer service are minor in comparison to the condition of the car upon its return to the customer. I got in the car and it was shaking and sputtering. I figured it was fuel injection cleaner and drove locally to do errands. The shaking turned to violence. The car began to lurch and idle very roughly. The sounds from the engine were gasps...very loud gasps. The RPM gauge needle was moving up and down vigorously with every gasp of air the car struggled to take. I finally called the dealer who advised I bring the car back immediately. I didn't know if I would make it back. The "check engine" light began flashing and the service lamp remained on. I was trying to hold back the tears. My Mini was dying. Derrick's diagnosis: Bad coil wire to engine causing misfire and possible bad distributor. An hour and half later car is returned and I am about to start a 3-hour drive south. I don't make it three blocks and the car is shaking and struggling to stay conscious. I bring it back and by now it is after 5:00 pm. I am exhausted and have been at the dealer since seven that morning. Derrick takes the car and I am given a loaner because I know I will be stranded on the side of the road with the state of the car. I have never spent $2600 dollars on a car and received it back worse than it was before it went in. Two days pass and Mini of Tempe doesn't even call. They had my car for a week and at no time did they call me to reassure me the car would be okay. I had to call them for updates. I believe they had lost faith in the repairs done to the car. The service department put a gasket back on the car wrong during the fuel injection flush and the cleaner they used was so strong that it left pockets of residue in the lines stalling out the car. I had to ask point blank was it the coil. They were covering up their mistake and needlessly letting me think my car was just falling apart. read more

Most dealerships are full of dishonest sales people and this place is no exception. I bought my 2013 Mini Cooper from them in 2016 and was talked into the 5 year extended warranty plan and was sold on them telling me "over the next 5 years alone oil changes and brakes will cost you more than twice the cost of the plan". It seemed like an obvious choice. Also the idea that everything BUT tires was covered for that 5 years. First thing, is not everything is covered, some things were covered but they made an attempt to bill me first and not until I said go get me the manager dd they say "oh yes I see you have the extended maintenance plan so it's covered". Other things just were not covered, like lights. It also had the SRS airbag light on and they can't fix it and kept giving it back to me unfixed blaming it on a radio that had been installed for over a year. Most recently I went in due to it needing brakes and was informed my warranty had expired. I said I don't see how that can be since I bought it in 2016, it's 2018 and I got a 5 year extended warranty. They said it's 5 years from the day the vehicle was originally sold to the original owner in 2013. Not at all what the finance guy told me .. So I managed to get 1 oil change, and 1 set of front brakes from them for a $1600 extended warranty. I will never bring it to them again. They are all a bunch of scam artists. read more

Incredibly unprofessional. Beware of Wally Cahill. He comes off as a friendly guy but will screw you if given the opportunity. Don't fall for their "mandatory" LoJack scam add-on for $525. Hint: it's not mandatory no matter what lies he tells you. He got angry claiming they were losing $700 on the deal. Another blatant lie. Once the deal was signed, he turned around, red in the face, and walked away without another word. I could go on and on; just proceed with caution if you must. Remember, he's a car salesman and will say anything to get the deal done. read more

It's a shame because we actually like our Mini a lot (bought a used 2009 about 3 years ago) and we would have used mini of Tempe again if not for what just took place. My wife handled an appointment and service transaction when her brake light came on. The mini was taken in and given all new pads. Additional checks were tacked on that amounted to a lot of money, but no actual work had to be done. My wife agreed to the add-on service checks and the final bill was $950. Of that $950, we were charged $560 of labor. The work was already done by the time I was notified about the price and so the bill was paid. In summary, the break light came on (car has ~50k miles on it) and servicing the vehicle at this dealer was about a thousand bucks. It feels wrong and it makes you feel dirty when this type of thing happens. Steven Pham was the associate that worked with my wife, who I understand was a pleasure to work with, but the service charge for what was done is truly over the top. Again, it's sad because she loves her mini and had been thinking about a newer model in the near future. We bought this one at mini of Tempe and had a good initial experience. Now we feel ripped off for what was really a simple service run (took them just a few hours and the car was ready). It takes us out of the running to work with them again because the charge is simply dishonest. read more

I brought my Mini in for service. I had made a phone appt the day before . I asked about a loaner car and they said they proved a free car. However when I got there I was informed there was a $20 "gas" fee. When I complained they waived the fee. I brought the car home and still had the same issue. I bought it back and this time they said it was a strut. The estimate was $400 for one so I had my mechanic fix it for $126. Now my car has developed a check engine light that came on. I called to talk to them about it and was told to bring it in and check it out. When I arrived there this morning they asked if I had been told about the $119 diagnostic charge. No I had not! Needless to say I will not be going back. read more

I inquired about a CPO Mini I had found on their website, they gave me a price, I countered a bit lower but fairly, I was told they could not possibly "go any lower because it is a CPO car", passed on that and did not hear anything further. So I continue to follow the car on their website and surprise, a week later, it is now almost $600 less than what I offered, no follow up call, no follow up e-mail! Moral of the story...should have let me know, would have kept another $600 in the deal, made a sale, and perhaps had a happy customer. read more

Don't let them sell you something you don't need... they told me I needed rear brakes for almost $500. It didn't sound right to me. I only have 37k miles on the car so I said lets wait. I got home, took the rear wheel off and found much more brake pad than caliper. I still have plenty of miles to go. They never even looked at the amount of pad that was on the car. read more

I had a small oil leak. I took my car in on Tuesday. They said it was an O ring. They replaced it and did an oil change for me. It wasn't until Thursday when I was getting ready to go to work. There was a larger oil leak than before they did the work. I called they got me in as soon as I got there. They said the housing for my oil filter was leaking. So they needed to replace that. If they did my oil change and changed my filter on Tuesday wasn't that something that would have been noticeable? They repaired it. Everything was under warranty thank goodness. All the staff are super friendly. I say just double check to make sure things they say are done really get done. read more

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but the service here was truly terrible from the moment we talked in. First contact the person was very fake. The dealer who actually "helped" us was rude and very unhelpful. We were not just in there for fun, we were seriously considering buying a mini. I dont know if the guy didnt take us seriously because of our age (middle 20s) or what, but the whole time he acted like we were wasting his time.
