The interior is very vibey. There's ample seating indoor and plenty more outside. The staff greeted me right away. There are kiosks by the entrance where you can place your order. I ordered the following: Blanquita (sushi) $15 Strawberry cream milk bun $4 Earl Grey matcha $8.50 My order was ready in ten minutes or less. The Blanquita is a spicy yellowtail & cucumber roll topped with yellowtail, Minnow salsa verde & green onion. It can be made gluten-free, which I requested. It was deelish! So this is a new spot in the area that I've been meaning to check out for a while. Still haven't tried the matcha since I went for happy hour. Thanks the Arizona Restaurant Week for opening my eyes (and appetite) for allowing me to try this cute, modern place! For a second, I thought I was near a beach watching sunset and gossiping with a friend lol! Love the self-serve kiosk idea. The chef was right there helping my friend and I figuring out the best options possible, when my brain was screaming "GET THEM ALL!" Really, I really did feel that way! We ended up ordering the bluefin nigiri, the sides were edamame and cucumber salad, the main rolls were citrus and red dragon. Every bite made my tongue dance and I was trying so hard not to make weird noises (half singing). It's embarrassing to admit, but I haven't had great sushi in a while. If you love sushi and matcha, this is your spot! The Ube Matcha was a dream. Perfectly sweet and salty, with the perfect balance of ube and matcha. It was truly perfection. Ordering was fairly easy, with the staff nearby to kindly help. The whole place, both inside and outside was very clean. Food came quickly and was prepared nicely. I tried spam for the first time, and while I'm not to sure if I'm a fan, all the sushi was so incredibly fresh and delicious. And, besides the ube matcha being the star of the show, the banana bread coffee cake was absolutely incredible. I fear I could eat it every day. The prices were amazing. Being a matcha bar, I had very high expectations for this place. Here they serve both sushi and matcha, and you order what you want at a kiosk. Just happen to be driving by the other day and saw this place. I thought I would stop in and try it out after looking over the website. I noticed they had happy hour prices from 8 to 9 which is perfect for anytime I need to head out for a quick bite in the evening. My son loves sushi and lower prices always help with the amount he usually eats. This place was casual and affordable. Nice and clean. With a nice patio. I look forward to when the fireplace is lit. Everyone was super nice! And the service was fast. If you're looking for a casual sushi place this is a great option in this area. We went for the traditional spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls. Tasted fresh and had a nice little mild kick. 2 for $12. We also ordered the red dragon which had a great spicy and sweet flavor to it. The swim break was my least favorite. I think it might've been the sauce. I liked it but I think it would've been better if it had been drizzled over instead of poured over. It drowned out the flavors of the fish. Let me start off by saying the matcha was amazing. I'm super picky about my matcha because a lot of places are either too sweet, all milk, or super grainy/chalky. This place was none of those. May have found my go to matcha spot in Scottsdale. The reason for the 4 stars is the food is nothing super special. I got the California roll and edamame. California roll is similar to what you can get at an AJs but a little fresher since the roll hasn't been sitting in a fridge. Edamame was way too soft and lacked any flavor besides the salt sprinkled on top. You also need to pay extra for ginger, wasabi, and sauces outside of soy sauce. I came back to try a matcha latte again and ordered an egg sando too. I had to knock off two stars from my review because I found them to both be underwhelming. The matcha latte (I ordered an iced matcha latte with sesame cold foam) had way too much ice in it and lacked flavor. It was very expensive too (over $6!). As I sat drinking it, I kept thinking about how I could do a better job making one at home (for a much lower price too). The egg sando was basically egg salad on a hamburger bun. Granted, the bun was a little softer and fluffier than an average hamburger bun, but I think this kind of sandwich works better on slices from a loaf of milk bread. Again, something I probably could have made at home. We ordered matcha drinks and shared 2 rolls: the blanquita and saguaro, 2 non traditional rolls with a Hispanic twist. The blanquita which had a salsa and saguaro which contained nopales. We had difficulty ordering as the kiosk froze. A nice employee was able to assist us at the register. She was great! Got to check out Minnow on their grand opening! Such a cute spot and combination of a few of my favorites things: Sushi AND matcha! The community itself was equally exited, as the inside space was full and their was a consistent line while we were there! The space itself is small, featuring a few sizes of tables form two tops, four tops and a larger community table, As well as a small bar area. They also have a nice large covered patio with a lot more seating, but not the best for those toasty summer days! The moment you walk in, you will find the sushi area to your left, and two kiosks right in front of you. You can order all your items here and then have a number to talk to your table for them to bring out your order. We tried the rainbow roll and the spicy roll with yellowtail. As well as their matcha cheesecake, chili crisp scone, the miso matcha and the inner child matcha. Everything came out timely, even while busy. They have a self service station with sauces, chopsticks and anything else needed. Both matchas were good, the inner child with the banana being much thicker than I anticipated. I enjoyed the miso as well, but not sure if I would get it again. The cold foam was good, but could have used a tad more sweetness in it, to balance the drink overall. The cheesecake was delicious and such a great treat that was balanced well with the yuzu and strawberry jam! The chili crisp scone was a bit of a letdown, lacking flavor, very dry and just did not hit the mark for us. I had much higher hopes for it! Minnow was shockingly great. I didn't know what to expect but the ambiance is clean, refined and fresh. The service is good, you order on a screen and a server delivers your food and drink. No frills, nothing exceptional but it gets it done. The food is where Minnow really shines. The sushi rice was so fresh and tasty. It was delicious. The fish was equally fresh. Overall the sushi was priced affordably and two people ate for under $25 which is a good deal. I don't think the miso soup was a good deal however, it was somewhere around $5 or so and was pretty lackluster; not only was it a really small portion for the price, maybe 2-3 spoonfuls but it didn't have any treats like silk tofu or nori if you're accustomed to that. It was simply just miso broth. I'll certainly be going back to Minnow in the near future and I hope to see you there! read more

We read about this new place in Phx New Times. I added it to my list to check out. And when I went into the Yelp app to bookmark it, I saw there already were some reviews. Minnow didn't officially open until today, July 8th. However they had their friends & family + soft opening over the holiday weekend. We went on Sunday. Arrived around 1pm and was told there is zero sushi or food menu items available. Bummer! So for that, I have to give 4 stars. It was disappointing and I was hungry. But it's understandable, they were running a 50% F&F deal so I'm guessing people before us just went to town on that deal. I had planned to. I saw people in there with large trays of sushi. It looked pretty tasty. So, we had to pivot as there was no food available besides pastries. We tried the burnt miso poundcake and banana bread. I was looking forward to the match cheesecake but that also was sold out. Pound cake was dry, and I thought a bit plain. I did enjoy the banana bread, even more so when I brought it home and microwaved for 15 seconds, added a little butter. It was SO good warmed up. We tried a few different matcha drinks. The hot ceremonial matcha was real nice. Smooth texture and matcha flavor that isn't too bitter. Ceremonial is supposed to by the highest quality of matcha one can drink. It was very good. I really liked my iced matcha/ ube drink. Great matcha flavor with a nice ube sweetness. Derek Y had the standard iced matcha latte and the one with strawberry. I liked the strawberry one better. SMALL FISH IN A BIG POND This restaurant sounds FISHY. A seafood restaurant named after a freshwater fish? I had to investigate, so I came for the soft opening because they were offering 50% off their menu. With a deal like that sure to make a splash, naturally, when I came here midday on a Sunday, it was like a school of fish with all the bodies swimming around. Everyone took the bait for their promotion and sadly they were out of sushi by the time we got there. So then I had to settle for some drinks from their green tea selection. The MATCHA GREEN TEA drinks were not very sweet, as I am used to the Asian tea shops where the drinks are like a dessert. I liked the UBE better than the GOMA and the RED VELVET because it was slightly sweeter than the others. The green tea itself seems more highlighted in their drink recipes. I appreciate that they have Ceremonial Green Tea which is the highest grade of green tea and an appeal for real green tea lovers. The BARLEY TEA BANANA BREAD was also light in sweetness and the tea flavoring did not stand out to me, but it did taste fresh. Everything is seemingly subtle and light in taste here. It feels like the almost a purist approach to the flavoring of their menu. This is a very small place, with a few bench seating type tables inside and can fit about 20 people. The patio is actually bigger than the inside. You order from a kiosk and grab a number marker and they call out your number to pick up at the counter. In a very cut throat, saturated market, Minnow is another spot to add in the Pond of sushi restaurants. But their differentiation is that it is a sushi restaurant with a coffee shop vibe. Seems like a good place for a quick stop-and-go type of restaurant, as well as a chill place to hang and chat over some comforting food and drinks. Went here at 12:30 on a Sunday! Busy parking lot, glad they extended it so there's parking around a rectangular perimeter. Minnow is right next to chop shop! It's a smaller place, and at least right now when they're newer and quite busy, expect it to be packed. We luckily got a table inside right as someone left. There's a few four tops and two tops and one long table and then a bar with seating. You order on a screen by yourself and take a number - very efficient. Since it was already the afternoon I didn't opt for matcha because of the caffeine, so I'll have to go back to try it because I've only heard amazing things. I got the red velvet matcha but as a decaf latte with oatmilk (strawberry and white chocolate), the larger size, and it was pretty cheap at about $8, which is still expensive but it was larger and had two flavors! I really liked it, not too sweet or artificial, I wouldn't say it was red velvet so to speak but I enjoyed it. My friend's blackberry matcha looked divine! It smells like fish and soy sauce in the restaurant so just come in knowing that. They have a whole jug of soy sauce, pretty cool. Own water filling station too. I heard about their soft opening and just had to go! Matcha and sushi? What a great combination! I took a peek at their menu and saw they had really unique matchas, beyond just the basics. Other than matcha and sushi, they also have coffee, pastries, donburi, and dessert. In addition to inside seating, they also have a lot of seating available outside, where there is a fireplace. It was much too hot to enjoy the outdoor dining area, but I'm sure once the weather is better, it would be enjoyable to dine outside. Minnow is a fast casual restaurant, with 2 kiosks where you place your order. During their soft opening, everything was 50% off, which made me want to order everything! I ended up getting the miso matcha latte (miso honey and miso cold foam), the go-go salmon roll (crab mix, cucumber, avocado, spicy salmon, unagi sauce, and spicy mayo), and the matcha cheesecake with strawberry jam and yuzu cream. A savory matcha like the miso matcha is not what I typically go for, but it was so unique that I felt like I had to try it because I could get the same or something very similar elsewhere of their other offerings. You'll definitely need a straw to mix the miso honey in with the rest of the drink. Before doing that, I couldn't taste the miso flavor, even in the cold foam. With the straw, I could taste the miso, which added a unique flavor to the drink, but wasn't overpowering. This drink is not my favorite, but I appreciate they took a risk and I'm sure there are others who would enjoy it. The sushi came in a to-go container, and even though it's a fast casual place, for the price, it would have elevated the experience if the sushi came on a plate for dine in. I also understand it would be a lot of work to bus the tables and run the dishwasher though. The matcha cheesecake was nice, but I would describe it more as a cake texture rather than cheesecake, since it was spongy. I liked that it included strawberry jam and yuzu cream on top, though I felt like the yuzu flavor was almost too subtle. That being said, I love their marketing, with vibrant pics, an eye catching menu, and the overall design of the restaurant. Minnow is part of the In Good Spirits group, which also owns Citizen Public House, the Gladly, and Beginner's Luck. Their grand opening is 7/8 and they are looking to extend their hours to offer dinner service and alcohol too! Minnow shares a parking lot with Chopshop next door as well. Visited on the first day of their soft opening weekend. They opened at 7:00am. My cousin and I got there just before 11:00am. It was not as busy as I expected, but it's also a holiday weekend. And to my surprise, they were offering 50% off! They have a small parking lot with some additional parking just north of it. I like that it is located in a relatively quiet area of Arcadia. The place is a bit small inside, but there's additional seating on their patio. Inside you order at one of two touchscreen kiosks, or there was a staff member that could take your order on a handheld device. Sushi is not served until 11:00am and you can't order it ahead of time, so we ordered drinks first. MATCHA: Our drinks arrived less than five minutes later. We both tried the Miso Matcha, iced with pistachio milk. The flavor combo is unique and definitely has that umami - a bit nutty & salty from the miso with a touch of sweetness from the miso honey. I wouldn't order this regularly, but it was worth a try and enjoyable. *Note: They offer the matcha drinks in 12 or 16 oz, but the 16 oz is just extra milk. Once ordered, our food took about 15-20 minutes. I was disappointed that the Red Dragon roll wasn't available, but we loved all three rolls that we got. The sushi rice and fish all tasted fresh. I already want to go back to try other rolls. What we got: -Blanquita -Go-Go Salmon -Yuzu Salmon DESSERT: The Matcha Cheesecake was surprisingly very light in texture. We forgot that Japanese cheesecake is not dense like American cheesecake. The cheesecake itself was not sweet, which was well-balanced with the tartness of the strawberry jam and sweetness of the yuzu cream. I really want to go back to try the Burnt Miso Poundcake too. As a sushi and matcha purist, I love this place! My fiancé prefers the fun rolls, while I like simplicity. Our friends got fun matcha lattes and I stuck with the hand-whisked shot. The patio is perfect for most months in Arizona. While the restaurant prefers you to order on the kiosk, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I can't wait to come back! read more

Stopped in for friends and family and the food was so good we dove in before photos (whoops)! The restaurant has two kiosk ordering stations. Grab a number, head to the condiment station for your choice of plasticware or chopsticks, fill up the sauce pots (they all come with lids for easy transport!), and find a seat. Drinks were out within minutes and food followed shortly thereafter. Usually pre-opening events are still working out service kinks, but not here! Bernie and team are dialed in. I will fully admit I'm not usually a huge sushi person, but a few bites of the poke donburi (tuna bowl) and I actually said, "man, I could eat this for lunch every day!" Exceptional. The yuzu onions are over the top - I'd order a side to go if it was an option. The avocado was plentiful. The rolls - spam isn't my first choice but my partner thought it was great. Interesting textures and a lot of crunch from the veggies. The tuna avocado roll was even better than expected. The real star of the show, though, was the blanquita. Hot damn. Their salsa verde is exceptional and this combination of flavors was out of this world. Easily the best sushi roll I've ever had.
