There were 4 of us and we ordered the bottomless brunch. it took an hour to get our first dishes - it was NOT busy. We then tried to order more food which then took another 30 min. Our first visit was excellent, so we returned. I ordered a "medium rare" cheeseburger and fries. The burger arrived "far beyond well done" with little or no seasoning, dry as could be. The fries were excellent, but the burger was one of the worst I have ever had. I should have sent it back but didn't want to sit and wait for a new one, while my wife ate. Maybe they only serve them well done for liability purposes, but, if so, the server should have told me. We will try this restaurant again, understanding it only recently opened and it takes time to eliminate early problems with food and service. read more

Beautiful new restaurant in west roxbury. Was so excited to try it and was really hoping it was good.... And it was!!! We got the coconut margarita, and the cucumber crush. Both very delicious drinks. For apps we got patatas bravas and short rib empanada both probably a 6/10. Then the real winner was the mission on fire chicken. We split this along with the taco pizza and I wish I had just gotten my own chicken!! The flavors were amazing! I was skeptical at first with the gravy and rice and sweet cornbread, but it was an amazing, delicious combo!! I will be ordering that again every time I come back!! We also got the taco pizza. Interesting menu with lots of small plates that sound good. We tried the chicken wings and the burrata. Wings were good but the burrata, which was 24 dollars, was described with beefsteak tomatoes, prosciutto, pesto, and pistachio dust. The tomato was pale, unripe, and tasteless. The prosciutto was in two tiny pieces, each about the size of a quarter. One was very dried out and both were bland, low quality prosciutto. I tried two of the Italian whites on the short list of wines available by the glass; both were lousy. We ate a the bar and the service from the bartender was excellent. read more

I've been here twice since they opened. Met the awesome bartenders (RJ) and the general manager Johan. Our first time went for dinner and the food was good. The bartender was so sweet and stuffed my olives with fresh blue cheese for my martini even though he was very busy. The 2nd time we came, was for brunch. Food yummy, but again service amazing, and RJ asked if I wanted my blue cheese olives again. And I said yes please and put them in my bloody mary:-) Looking forward to going back again! read more

A beautiful facility but with needed improvements to staffing and food. We went today for brunch. We arrived right at opening (11:30) and were greeted by the hostess, casually dressed in a sleeveless golf shirt, capris jeans and flip flops (so unsafe to wear as a restaurant employee, no matter what their role!). We were seated quickly and our server, Nicky, approached our table with water and took a drink order. When she returned with drinks and to take our food order, she clearly had NO familiarity with the menu. We literally had to point to the menu item so she could copy what we wanted down onto her pad of paper. (At that, she still ordered the wrong item for my husband!) Their brunch menu consists of small plates so we were encouraged to order a couple of items at a time. I ordered 2 different tacos (not much flavor on either - disappointing) and my husband ordered the french toast (which he enjoyed) and the classic eggs Benedict (he was brought the caprese eggs benedict). As stated, portions were small plates so we placed another round - our server highly recommended the avocado and eggs and toast so I decided to try it only to find out 10 minutes later by a manager that they were out of avocados. I opted for the huevos rancheros (poached egg, braised short rib, beans, salsa, cotija and aioli). The egg was fried, no salsa and there was one VERY small piece of short rib, probably amounting to less than a tablespoon of meat (too bad because the flavor of that little bit of meat was delicious!) Make a menu item to its description on the menu, for Pete's sake!! Maybe the other menu items are better. Maybe brunch isn't their strong suit. They had 15-16 tables and 3 servers so business was good and the kitchen (clearly visible from the dining room) seemed well staffed. Their waitstaff DEFINITELY needs more training. Their hostess should be dressed to greet customers and not look as though she's going to run errands. I know for a fact that the owners are experienced restauranteurs. How they could allow this lack of service is questionable. I wish them well but after this experience, I wouldn't bother trying them again. read more

As with most new establishments, I don't discount the experience based on their menu and service. The Mission menu is discombobulated, going from empanada & tacos, to burrata and Greek salad. The chef will hopefully figure out his cuisine soon. That being said... The cost of this menu makes it a place you cannot frequent with weekly or bi-weekly visits. For example: $22 for 6 oysters? $24 for a burrata app? $9-13 for a draft beer? Examples of items that are obscenely over priced. The best Italian spots in greater Boston have the same offerings for half the price. The entrees are pretty solid overall. Reasonably priced, and good flavor. Again, they need to trim the menu down. It's very overwhelming and no one wants to get Shrimp Scampi at a place that seems to be targeting Spanish food and rotisserie chicken. Not to mention, rotisserie chicken with Orecchiette is near criminal. Bar is small, tight, and feels like the bottles are on top of your head. Decent experience to try for something new, or go on a date every 3-6 months. Unless they drop prices, create a true culinary identity, and solve their layout, this place will most likely be doomed to the same resolve of all other VFW restaurants. read more

Truly a disappointing experience. We were really excited to try Mission because we previewed the menu and so many things we liked were listed as well as it being so close to our house. When we got to the place it was reservations only for awhile so we took a seat at the bar. The music was incredibly loud but we were near a speaker so that may have been the issue. They seem to be a restaurant struggling to find an identity. They are listed as an American restaurant online but seem to be more of a cultural fusion restaurant. It's a rare occasion to get oysters, empanadas, and a Greek salad all at the same place. I don't hate all the menu options but it also shows in the decor. You have screens that resemble a sports bar, music that is meant for a club, and a lot of the rest feels like an upscale restaurant. Most importantly, the food. It was just okay. The oysters were great but at $4ish dollars per oyster they were on the high side. I dont mind shelling out for a good oyster if it wasn't accompanied by all of the other things. $9.50 for an empanda half the size of a standard one? Shameful. I get that it's tapas but something has got to give here. The brisket was dry. We ordered the Greek salad and half of the plate was pita with nothing to even dip it in. By this time, we were disappointed and still hungry so we decided to try one more thing on the menu. We thought that we probably won't come here again so let's get weird and order the grilled cheese Mac and Cheese. It was weird and we were in for weird but it just didn't work. Bread was nice and cheese was nice but not even all the pasta was covered in cheese and it just didn't work as a good menu item. Last but not least, we got the blueberry lemonade drink and a Mai Tai and they were just okay. Blueberry lemonade tasted good but I couldnt say for sure if there was even alcohol in it. read more

Service was good. Food was good, not great. Prices for tapas were overpriced ($12 for a two bite crab cake and $8 for a three bite empanada). Half chicken at $17 was less expensive than I would have guessed and a good value. The big problem is how loud the place is. Impossible to have a conversation at a table in the main dining room. The tables on either side of us felt the same way. Nothing in the construction to absorb any sound. We felt like we were yelling at one another just to be heard. The food and service are good enough to make a return visit, but the noise problem, for us, was a factor for the entire evening. I have never been this bothered by the loudness in any restaurant that I can recall - this was truly over the top. Food and service are always important, but the inability to enjoy the people you are dining with, makes me want to spend my money elsewhere. read more

It's new and it's good. I liked Sophia's. Sad to see that go but this is just as nice. I wasn't hungry so I shared appetizers. We tried the crab cake and the stuffed Paplano both were tasty. I had a slice of someone's pizza and that was good too. They do have healthy options like salads that you can add a protein to, which is what I'll probably do next time. They just opened. They haven't opened up the upstairs yet but they were able to get a reservation the day we called. Definitely call ahead. read more

He even created a unique menu and seated us in a private area of the beautifully spacious restaurant. The food - in its variety and preparation - was exceptional and delicious. I waited to write a review for this place because maybe they were just having an off day when my family and I visited. But my experience was similar to some of the other reviewers'. The food was average. Nothing great. (This was from a take out order) Definitely overpriced. Menu items were all over the place. The service was absolutely terrible. When we walked in, we saw the hostess wearing a loose tank top, golf shorts and flip flops. Really? A hostess wearing that? She seated us quickly but not friendly - like she didn't know what she was doing or didn't want to be there. Our waitress came and gave us our menu. No smile. No hello. Just set the menus down. She came back to fill our water. Again, no smile. No hello. Didn't introduce herself. She didn't speak one word to us. She also spilled water all over an empty chair next to my three year-old son and some on his pants. She not only didn't apologize, she also didn't wipe it. She SAW it and walked by it many times. We waited 15 minutes and she never returned to take our order even though she walked by us many times. We got up and left. On our way out, we told the hostess that we were leaving because no one came to take our order. She said, "oh ok." Clearly she didn't care. While waiting for our waitress to take our order, we noticed how dirty the place was. There was ketchup smeared on the half wall and on the floor. MANY staff walked by and SAW it but didn't clean it up. I guess they didn't care because it wasn't their job. Finally, the hostess came after walking by several times and sort of wiped it with a napkin. No clean up. No mop. Just stickiness. She returned to the hostess desk without washing her hands. I could only imagine how dirty their kitchen was. Needless to say. We're not returning. It's really not just some kinks they have to work out - it's the overall lack of care in a hospitality business. Based on the responses to other reviews, I'm glad that their management is acknowledging the issues and hopefully doing something about them. read more

New restaurant with an interesting menu to try. The restaurant has a nice modern decor that is very inviting. The food and drink menu is well diverse in different exotic flavors. My only complaints would be time management . If I make reservations for certain time I expect to be seated at that time . I should not have to wait an extra 30 min. I do have to mention my waitress Daviana was very attentive to my party and always smiling and making sure we were happy. Good customer service there . So I went to this location to go to Sophia I remember a friend mentioning it before. When I arrived it wasn't the restaurant my friend mention but what I came into seemed amazing. It had a great atmosphere and I am secretly a food critic and I did not have any complaints. The service was awesome and I honestly sortof felt I had a designated person helping me. Everything was explained to me with suggestions which I took and honestly can't want to go again. I am thinking a year in, this place can only get better with time. Mission on Fire! Wow! From the moment I walked in, the experience was top-notch. I kicked things off with the Tango Mango cocktail--perfectly balanced with just the right mix of spicy and sweet--absolutely delicious! The tapas stole the show: the short rib empanadas were bursting with flavor, the papas bravas had the ideal crispy texture with a bold kick, and the sautéed shrimp were cooked to perfection. Just Wow. I would give this location a 5 Star, but I reserve the highest rating for the moment you say that was so amazing I could die now. Prices here at Mission on Fire are not only reasonable but the food and service experience exceed my expectations. No Pics as I did not expect the experience. Lobster Mac is served with large pcs of tail and claw (never experienced such portion of lobster) Mac and chz was light on a creamy chz sauce accompanied with the perfect balance of cheeses. Enjoyed about 6 tapas items to start, to much to type but still have to say wow!!! We also had to try their pizza because we had to. Had the 6 chz pizza with multiple aromatic cheeses prepared in a brick oven, amazing. So in short, I would highly recommend this place to dine lunch or dinner. We went for brunch and unfortunately we were disappointed . Our waitress was nice and kind but not attentive. The first round was waffles, French toast, eggs benny, potato bravas, cheesy eggs and sausage. Food came out erratically and when we got our food we had to ask for salt pepper syrup etc. The sausage never came out because she didn't hear that I had ordered it. She went and put the order in came back 15 minutes later and said they didn't have any sausage. They don't have bacon or at least it wasn't on the menu we had. You cannot order an omelette or anything like that you have to order what's on the brunch menu. The meatballs and sauce were very good just needed a nice chunky piece of bread!! Overall it was just nothing special . It was quite loud as well. Just not something I feel we would go back to. In my opinion this fell really short. read more

Food was great service even better. We started with dollar oysters which was a special they run weekly on Mondaysat the bar. Then moved along to some tapas, the bbq brisket was outstanding. Entrees where the churrasco steak and the blackened salmon again knocked it out of the park. Tried this for the first time and what a disapointment! Food is just meh. We did the bottomless brunch which means you can order as much food as you want for 1.5 hours which we didn't even want that much and it felt like a scam as the waitress failed to tell us they were out of sides that come with the deal which was part of why we ordered it. She didn't even say that until I asked if the sides were coming and then my french toast never came. She let us know the kitchen was busy which I would understand if her service was better but she failed to check on the french toast twice and didn't to bring the check until after 2 requests. I would recommend passing on this place for both food and service as they need to do better training all around. read more

I love coming to Mission on Fire since they opened. The ambience is very chic and the restaurant doesn't get too loud. The menu offers a lot of different kinds of food which is nice for picky eaters (like me) and everything always comes out great. we were really looking forward to trying this new restaurant as locals and were unfortunately disappointed with the experience. We got calamari and a salad to start - the salad actually tasted grainy and dirty like it wasn't washed. the calamari was fine. we were then rushed by our server to order entrees right away "this is what the kitchen recommends" she said, (even though we wanted to wait) , the entrees came out right away though so we then rushed through our apps so the main dishes wouldn't get cold. both of our dishes were underwhelming ( pasta dish and chicken). our server brought over a dessert menu but then didn't return for 30min.. so we just got the check. Back-in-the-day this location housed Fontaine's w/ the landmark neon chicken flapping its wings at the corner of VFW Parkway and Rt 109...most recently, this spot was Sofia's Italian Steakhouse but now it's Mission On Fire - and boy is the house on fire...the menu is fiery exciting spiced w/ a Latin flare...something for everyone and the vibe is a-w-e-s-o-m-e. Noteworthy is Johan, the General Manager, who is laser-focused on customer satisfaction while insuring the total dining experience is top-notch. Johan's passion for excellence and profound hospitality experience exude confidence and motivation in every member of his staff. Johan is a leader by example and he deserves 6 stars on a 5-star rating scale but nonetheless his restaurant well deserves the 5-star rating. We went on a Saturday for the $20 dollar bottomless brunch (great price). Checked out the menu before hand and it looked good. We sat, ordered, and waited for the food. The first round of items were pretty good-huevos rancheros was great, scrambled eggs, steak taco, meatballs, and avocado toast were okay. Needed seasoning but no salt or pepper on table. The brunch comes with bread and homefries for free that never showed up, but after asking the waitress about them they came to the table pretty quickly. Second round fish tacos, salmon tacos, waffles, and French toast. All yummy besides the fish tacos. I took two bites and each one had a pin bone. I was very disappointed because I love fish tacos. The waitress was very friendly but you could tell she was overwhelmed with a pretty packed dining room being the only server. I didn't have the heart to tell her about the bones. Final round I got the huevos rancheros again but there was no delish short rib this time!! This time I spoke up to I think the manager? He was running around helping the server with a nice lunch/brunch pop she was dealing with. He was very nice and offered a refire but I declined because my two year old and husband were ready to go. I think this place could be really good, but they need more time to work out their kinks for sure. We will go back in 6 months or so to try it again. read more
