Stopped in a couple nights ago. Food was good but the service was bad. Neither people behind the counter wanted to help anyone. Tables were not being cleared. Take out orders were being left on the counter with no notice to those waiting. I was able to dine in, eat and leave while the same people were waiting for their take out orders. I live in the neighborhood and always come here. Food is great and consistently good. Can't say that about the service and every moron working in there though. Bus boy just told me I shouldn't have sat down at my booth when I asked him to wipe it down...so rude! And that's one example of many I've experienced! Not sure what everyone is on about with this place. Especially Rebecca B, we are really good friends and eat here all the time. Every time we've gone she's loved it and then posts the 2 star review to keep her Yelp cred up (love you girl but cmon).. A solid 4-star restaurant, at least for breakfast. We just moved to neighborhood and decided to eat at Split because it was close and open for breakfast. Wasn't expecting a whole lot based on some of the reviews but was pleasantly surprised. While I think that some of the more critical reviews are constructive, I think the the owners will figure it out over time. On the positive: The place is bright, and clean. I don't think it's as sterile as some people have noted in their reviews. Our food was solid 3.5 - 4.5 star quality. I ordered pancakes, which, in my mind are pretty generic. Not much u can do to screw them up or make them awesome. But these pancakes were awesome! Lightest pancakes I've ever eaten! My son's fried egg sandwich was good. Not the best but solid 3.5 star. Prices are reasonable for the area. The negative They did not have hot tea. Said it was not currently available. Odd that no tea for breakfast, but easily fixed. Staff friendliness. They weren't unfriendly but didn't go out of their way to make people feel welcome and wanting to make Split part of a regular neighborhood lineup. For example, cashier could have apologized for not having hot tea and let me know they would have great tea selection on my next visit. It just doesn't seem that they are naturally warm and friendly, with the exception of the young busboy. Also, they could have looked up and said goodbye when we left the restaurant. Again, not unfriendly but not at all inviting. I think they could raise their overall rating a star with friendlier service. Room for improvement but a good quality meal close to home. read more

We ordered our food. The guy at the front didn't have a smile and wasn't friendly at all. He acted mad to be at work. The dressing is horrible on the Alamo salad. When asked for a different type, the guy at front didn't bring the ranch. Instead, he organized glassware in the cabinet... funny, cuz it wasn't busy at ALL. Maybe four tables seated inside and out combined. He asked the busser to get the dressing after getting stares from us. He brought it in the smallest ramekin known to mankind. We asked for more ranch along with BBQ sauce. Busser didn't even know if there was BBQ within the restaurant. Hm?? He brought both; BBQ -- steaming hot. Yuck!!! Why was it hot? Love this spot! Get there for early lunch and sit outside and grab a seat in the sun. General manager and servers are super friendly. You can ask them to be flexible on any dish. Well, truly unfortunate. We live less than a block from this Split location and have been twice now. The first time, we ordered the fried half chicken and received room temp chicken, which if you've ever fried anything know is a huge no no. Graciously they replaced it. Came back second time. Same order. Cold again. Not worth waiting for a second round. It's as if they pre fry the chicken and have it under a less than warm heat lamp. Split is off the list now. I just love this place. It's beautifully decorated, cozy and just a great addition to the neighborhood. The staff is warm and friendly! I absolutely love the spilt chicken. It's so tender moist and flavorful that I just want to buy a batch of it to take home and use in my favorite recipes that call for shredded chicken. The crispy chicken is the bomb and topped on the Mandarin salad, wow! The salads are actually all amazing and you can't go wrong ordering any one of them. The Split fries are my fave and when I order a salad, I just have to get a side of fries, because why not! My kids are huge burger fans and they think the split burger is the best burger in town, so if you've got kids who love burgers, then you have to take them here! Split bread is amazing! I can't believe they only have 3 stars. I am so thrilled it's in our neighborhood now. Split Bread is just as amazing as Blue Barn, but cheaper and more spacious inside. The ingredients are always fresh, they offer gluten free options, and they have amazing beer of draft and wine. What happened?? Something is wrong in the kitchen. I've gotten the fried chicken sandwich and the Cobb chopped salad two times already and today I got both and added the artichoke and spinach dip--all to go. I know you're new so I was going to send you a message to see if the chef is out for the holidays and someone is filling in? I didn't see that message option here for you (big bummer). So, here's my feedback....the artichoke and spinach dip tasted so bad that I threw it away. The chips weren't even good enough to keep and eat separately. I hope this isn't the normal recipe of this dip. It was lacking in flavor and went beyond bland to actually taste bad. The chicken sandwich...the chicken seemed undercooked and the recipe for the crunchy fried part was different. This changed the taste of the whole sandwich. I had to throw it away, too, because it also tasted bad!! This was a big let down because it was so good the last 2 times!! I saved the salad for dinner and was really looking forward to it since I barely ate anything for lunch. It's normally amazing!! Tonight, it too tastes different. The chicken is wayyyy too salty. I think I'm going to have to throw this away, too. Please contact me about a refund and let me know if this was a one off because your regular kitchen staff is out or something. Came here with a friend had never even heard of it before but I looked modern a bit corporate mainstream. Aside from it being $60 for 2 people! It was thee worst customer service and food I've had in awhile. The (what I'm assuming was a lead of some sort.) white girl , glasses, bad attitude. All of our food was cold all of it. So I politely asked to reheat or bring out new hot food. Instead of "im so sorry." Or anything professional she says. "Ok let me take care of all of this (waiving her hands at the orders she's making) first. Then continues acting like a crazy person in a panic..I've been the assistant manager of a similar restaurant on Polk and you maintain your chill, apologize and fix the problem. I went back to my seat told my friend we were leaving and asked the girl at the counter for a refund. She got Mrs. Attitude who continued to interrogate us about what was wrong with the other items I finally had to stop her and say "can we just get our refund and go. She pulls out her phone does some calculations and then hands me a receipt for like $6 less then the original total. I said why is this not the full amount she says work a smirk and condescending tone. "There was nothing wrong with the drinks.". Wow.... Never in my life I have had or something as petty and juvenile as that. Sad. read more

I have only ordered take out so I can't comment on the service, but I enjoy the food. My hubby and I have ordered the classic sandwich,split burger, ranger burger, mandarin salad (my favorite), road house salad, grove salad, split fries, and french fries. While a bit pricey, the food is delicious and the only complaint about the food is that the bread on the Sonoma sandwich is too hard for my liking. The salad portions are huge and the salads are customizable. The split fries come with a tasty sriracha ranch sauce. Split is one of my go-to places for take out. read more

Hi hopes when this place opened. They still haven't quite nailed it. Staff seem kind of clueless about customer service. Don't eat outside - the stench from the gutter and city garbage can right out front are horrendous. The previous establishment made an effort to clean up that stuff (even though it was technically not their responsibility) but these folks seem to hate working there and don't give a damn or about that or their customers.
