Iced matcha latte w/ oat milk
    Reine N.

Decided to cowork with a friend who wanted to check out Modu, so I met her here! I was able to find street parking in a residential block a couple minute walk away. Atmosphere wise, the music is a nice ambient level & everyone was either chatting or working. The area that left me quite disappointed was my drink. I opted to try the matcha latte as the vibrant green color I saw in other review photos looked quite promising. However, upon first sip, I realized that the color may have led me astray, as I struggled to really taste any matcha. It tasted a bit more like watered down oat milk. Overall, I'd likely stick to trying their coffee based drinks if I were to return in the future.

I had a great experience at this Korean bakery/cafe in Highland Park! For drinks, I got their signature Modu Latte Iced and it was great. It was satisfyingly sweet from the Korean black sugar syrup and had good espresso flavor. I also liked the sweet and soft cream top. I also tried their signature milk cream bun and it was between good and decent. What I liked most was the cream which was soft, not too sweet, and light. I could eat a lot of that haha. The brioche bun used as could've been better though. It was bready and firm, whereas I would've preferred the bread to be fluffy and airy. This would be great as a sandwich bun though. The interior and exterior are pretty nice, I like the vibes. There's a main table which people can share as well as individual seats and tables. There's wifi here, but I didn't see any outlets. Parking is street parking only. I would recommend parking in the nearby neighborhood for free parking. Overall, good experience here. I would love to come back to try thor other creative and aesthetic pastries!

Beware of street parking on York Blvd. I found luck on a neighboring residential street but street sweeping (No Parking) is from 9-11am Wednesday on one side and Thursday on the other side. Plenty of seats and tables, great for a work from cafe kind of day but might need to go early. People that were there already around noon didn't seem like they would be leaving anytime soon. We only ordered one coffee because we had watered down drinks from another place a few minutes prior. Modu Latte was terrible. Nothing special to it, tasted like a McDonalds' coffee but topped with a cream top.. We really came for their pastries and those were much better than their coffee. Yuja Kumquat Tart -soo good, the chocolate pastry shell wasn't too sweet and paired well with the citrus cream. Dolloped on top was a cream that was light and airy. Candied Kumquat was great touch. Black Sesame Mochi Cake Bar -it's what you expected it to be. Not too sweet.

If you drive too fast you will miss this place. You can see Galco market not directly across but close enough to know your in the right area. I didn't try the coffee this time but I did get some pastries to try. With all four of the pastry I got, they are not too sweet and I love that. Black sesame mochi cake loaf, you can taste the earthly toasted sesame and the texture is mochi but not too much. Lime tart, really unique with the sugar leaf on top and it goes well with the filling. Tart and I want to say I was able to taste a little of cheese in it too. Cream bun, sooo good airy and fluffy, you don't feel guilty eating it. Because the bun itself is so fluffy and the cream top is just light and delicious and I can see why the staff is making more of them in the kitchen. Last was this black sesame dark chocolate cookie. I really enjoyed it and take little bites of it. It's wonderful. The black sesame and dark chocolate goes well together. Service was very nice and the staff was patience and I was able to ask to put the pastry in separate boxes because I was gifting some

I came here with a friend on a Sunday morning after seeing it on Instagram. It wasn't too crowded for a weekend and the interior had ample seating for us. We ordered a yuzu tart and the signature cream pan for our pastries. For drinks, we ordered the matcha latte and the hojicha latte. Starting off with the cream pan, I would say it's solid for what it is; however, it's nothing to write home about. It wasn't too sweet nor heavy which I appreciated, but other than that it was pretty standard. The yuzu tart was very impressive. I admit that I am a big fan of yuzu, but this tart was made quite well. It wasn't too overly powerful, but it still had a nice aroma and taste of yuzu with each bite. I won't say much about the drinks because I don't think that's what this place is known for, but it's just your standard matcha and hojicha you can get anywhere else. All in all, Modu Cafe has an interesting selection of pastries and I had a good experience overall.

Modu is a cute café just a bit down on York Blvd in a quieter part of town, but offers a nice drink selection and an especially robust Asian-inspired dessert menu. I opted for the Modu Latte, as well as a yuzu kumquat tart and two cookies (black sesame and misu-garu). The cookies were phenomenal, chewy and full of sesame and soybean flavor. Even better was that they weren't too sweet! The yuzu kumquat tart was tasty, although I would've preferred a stronger yuzu punch, as it was quite subtle. The Modu Latte was okay, but I did find it overly sweet; I wish there'd been more coffee to counterbalance the sweetness more. Overall, Modu offers beautiful desserts and drinks and is a great place to sit down and enjoy dessert with a friend or getting work done. Worth a go while in the area!

Definitely will be coming here again! I just moved to the area and I was pleasantly surprised to find such a modern coffee shop with high quality in a close distance to the neighborhood. Service was pretty fast given they had a long line. Also the milk bun was a perfect combination of just the right amount of sweetness and delicacy. The modu latte was like a pumpkin spice combined with a hint of chai. So freaking good

This cafe is pretty cool. Indoor seating with a nice layout, almost looks like an Apple Store layout in a good way lol. Tried the sesame dark chocolate cookie and the matcha tonic on the LA cookie crawl (yes, it's a thing) and both were surprisingly pretty great. Coming back here next time I'm in HP

My wife wanted to try this coffee spot when we were in LA, said their pastries look awesome. I got the matcha tonic which tasted really good, my friend got the coffee tonic, was more sour and bitter than the matcha one. My wife got the best one, the Yuja passion fruit spritz, think it's yuzu but another name. The pastries are all very good, liked the sesame mochi cake the most, cream bun is creamy and dense, my wife liked it a lot, and the Brûlée cheesecake is also very good, a little on the sweeter side. Just note that there aren't many seats available, especially on weekends, we got there on Sunday 3pm ish, it was full. Definitely would revisit for their pastries and buy a drink with them.

I came here randomly because I was craving matcha. Was happy to see that they had Hojicha latte as well. The barista checked and she said that the powders do not have milk powder in them. I have a dairy allergy. I ordered the matcha and Hojicha latte with oat milk. My girlfriend had the cold brew with oat milk, and boricua cheesecake. I was disappointed that there was a charge for milk substitutes especially since there's lots of people who are lactose intolerant. Drinks were good. I saw people in the restaurant working on laptops. They had merch for sale as well. Parking is street parking.

Trying Modu Cafe was actually so fun! Their unique asian flavors were so interesting and hard to choose from because everything sounded so delicious! BLACK SESAME MOCHI BAR: 5/5 Classic mochi bar but with a black sesame flavor - the chewy texture had me taking so many extra bites! PERILLA LEAF LIME TART: 5/5 The candied perilla leaf was so cool and tasted so delicious and herbal! I love lemon tarts so this was an amazing twist! CREAM BUN: 2/5 I truly don't understand the hype of this - it's very cute and aesthetically round but the bread tasted stale and was not soft or pillowy. The fresh cream is nice but not enough to make up for the bread. It's very popular here so it was packed even on a weekday around 11am - definitely come early if you're trying to nab a seat! Lots of people doing work here. There's wifi, restrooms, free parking on the street, and the vibes are very clean minimalistic sleek and japandi.

Service, ambiance, and baked goods are all 5 stars. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and I love their unique selection of baked goods (that they executed perfectly) Amazing texture, flavor, and sweetness level of the cookie and cheesecake I tried. I will DEFINITELY be back to try their drinks and other baked goods.

    Cynthia P.

Perilla lime tart was delicious! Perfect hint of lime and tartness. I did not taste the perilla leaf at all though as it was completely covered in crispy sugar bits. Black sesame mochi bar was good too. Will come back to try more desserts. I also appreciate Modu accommodating my milk substitution request for their signature latte since I don't like oat milk. Free street parking. Make sure to read the signs for street sweeping restrictions!

Instead of traditional pinipig (toasted/puffed rice flakes), they used Frosted Flakes (the cereal!). The boba were scarce and hard, there were only a few strands of jackfruit, a sliver of flan, and coconut jellies. Most notably, it lacked classic ingredients like sweetened beans and macapuno that give authentic Halo Halo its signature flavor and texture. If you're looking for a traditional Halo Halo, this isn't it. I have to disagree with the claims that Cafe 86 serves the best Halo Halo, in my opinion, it's one of the worst I've had (with Manila Inasal's coconut milk version still being my least favorite). At $11.50 each, the portion size and quality simply don't justify the price. The Frosted Flakes didn't work for me, and what tasted like coffee ice cream completely changed the dessert's flavor profile. The problem with many modern dessert shops is that they try to reinvent traditional favorites for the mainstream but end up losing the essence of what made them special in the first place. Authentic Halo Halo is all about the balance of classic ingredients and textures, and this version missed the mark. Would I come back? Never. Would I recommend it? Absolutely not. If you're craving a more traditional Halo Halo, I'd recommend heading to Max's in Glendale instead.
