Place is HORRIBLE. Waited an hour to get in the door. Still waiting on my food. It's going on 30 mins. Employees walking around like zombies. Whoa! Short ribs loco moco! You are my new favorite thing! I love any combination of rice and meat, but this was so tender and delicious! Putting the gravy on the side is a good idea so you can control the amount because they do give you a lot. My fiance and I split the Short Ribs Loco Moco and the Kalua Pig benedict, which were both excellent! The loco moco beef was extremely tender and well seasoned and the rice was a perfect accompaniment. The kalua pig was less tender but still tasty. I just wasn't a fan of the poached egg which was slightly runny. This place also has a rather long wait, and they don't take reservations, so be prepared to walk around the plaza for a little bit before its your turn. read more

Great breakfast spot outside of Honolulu! We were starting our drive around the island on a weekend morning. There was no wait for us at about 9:00-9:20 a.m. The wait started as we were leaving, but it seemed like they had good movement in turning tables. Overall a nice experience! read more

Sorry but after waiting a hour my husband and I were disappointed. The pancakes are huge, not a bad thing but they were rubbery and doughy. I ordered a Denver omelette it was more cheese and tomatoes than eggs. Very dry.... only good thing was the sausage. read more

This is one of the best breakfast places in Honolulu in my opinion. I'll definitely be back. I had the vegetable panini, my friend had the crab benedict, and another friend had the crepe with sun dried tomatoes and spinach. It was all very good and the service was also good. Delicious brunch spot! Opens at 7am, so very convenient after a sunrise hike at Koko head. Gets crowded quickly on the weekends, so expect a wait. Really enjoyed the spinach florentine and fried rice. $10-$15 for each brunch entree. read more

Wait times are really long so I had high expectations for this place. The decor is simple and light which is nice for a brunch place. Our waitress was friendly and attentive with frequent water refills. I got the eggs benny and it was delicious. Great breakfast place in Hawaii Kai. We usually go here after we do one of the ridge hikes and are subsequently starving from 4 hours of activity. The food is delicious, well priced and well portioned. The only caveat is that it's super busy so be prepared to wait at least 40 minutes on the weekend. After hearing much hype about this breakfast/brunch place, my family and I finally had the chance to check it out. Unfortunately, they were quite a letdown. Prices were high and portions were small. The food itself was subpar as well. We ordered the Strawberry & Milk Pancakes, the Short Rib Loco Moco, a Denver Omelet, a Keiki Fried Rice & scrambled eggs, and an affogato. The concoction on top of the pancakes was great, but the pancakes themselves were average at best. Liliha bakery makes much much much better pancakes. The short rib in the loco moco was tender, but very bland. If you took a bite of it by itself, there was barely any taste to it. Not to mention that there was only two small chunks of it. The Denver omelet was just okay.....nothing good, nothing bad.....just okay. The affogato was actually pretty good, but just a tad small. The service here was actually very good, so I gave them an extra star. read more

I'm not sure what the hype is all about. We ordered the chantilly banana pancake and the strawberry/creme pancake. Both pancakes were just meh, I've experienced better. The presentation looked really delicious but sad to say there was no WOW when eating it. What really took the cake was the size of their small pog juice. See the picture I posted. First let me say my wife just loved their coffee, I had the short rib loco moco which was just okay, think a hamburger is a better match for any loco moco. The gravy was good though. Wife had the eggs benedict which she said was okay, had heard good things about theirs so I kind of pressured her to try it. I also had their sweet bread french toast which was again just okay. Great breakfast place with minus one star for poor service. We arrived here around 9:30 AM after a two hour hike. It is right next to Hanauma Bay and Makapu'u, which makes it perfect spot for breakfast either before or after a long day at the beach. I got the pancakes which ended being two enormous servings. Be sure to ask for the coconut syrup for a unique flavor that can only be found in Hawaii. Minus one star for having really slow and inattentive (but not rude) service. Had to raise my hand to call someone over multiple times. Be prepared to wait if you don't already have a reservation. read more

Kept hearing about the Braised Short Rib Loco Moco from friends. Well, the dish was very good/ono-The meat was nice and tender, cooked to perfection. They have very nice but small spot in the Koko Marina S.C. and the service was great. The reason for three stars was the price $$$$ and a small portion. To pay 18$ for any Loco Moco is steep except maybe a Filet Mignon or Kobe Burger. Like I said earlier, it was very tasty and delicious but 18$ come on. At that price, I was expecting a lot bigger portion than what was served. Only two small pieces of Braised Short Rib with two eggs over a small bed of fried rice. This is the kind of price and portion you can expect at a 5-Star Hotel not a restaurant. Sorry to say but at those kinds of prices it will be my last time there unless someone else pays :). read more

IMO, #1 in any joint is service. Moena always has always been consistent with polite, quick service. Having someone greet you when you put your name on the sign in list is really nice. Always good to be acknowledged. The ladies who have served us at our visits have been so nice and considerate! #2 for me would be cleanliness. It always feel clean and doesn't have the wet rag smell that many places do after a while. The servers are on top of cleaning the tables to turnover quicker and so that people dining don't have to see any half eaten food on the next table. The only thing that my eyes are always drawn to is the dust on the ceiling by the AC vents. But that's a minor quick fix. #3 is the food. I love the fact that they serve modest portions. I don't need a whole plate of fried rice, nor do I want to see anyone else shovel down a 5 lb. plate of food. And I'm the kind of person who will eat something just because it's in front of me while I wait for others on my table to finish eating. Mo' Egga is a winnah! IMO, the PERFECT BREAKFAST! Artichoke spread on toasted roasted garlic bread with poached eggs. Simple dish, nice presentation, filling (without being sickening) and even after finishing my breakfast, I was craving for the next time we will visit. My mouth is watering even as I write about it. first off, seen some pictures from a former coworker and everything looked pretty good. well.. i suppose a picture can say a thousand words. let me start by saying if you plan on getting a table, get there early or be prepared to wait. Got there around 715am, and there was no wait. Seating is a bit cramped so if you are claustrophobic, you will not like this place at all. now, onto the food, short rib loco moco, I had real high expectations for this dish and it didn't really meet them. The shortribs were cooked, but couldn't taste much seasoning at all. I really hate to add salt to anything especially when i'm dining out. loco moco sauce looked very good also, but lacked basic seasoning... needed some salt. pancakes with fresh fruit, $15, maybe a little overpriced. The pancakes weren't that good. I'm sorry but it was rather dry. Fresh fruit, banana, blueberry, strawberry, coconut flakes, might justify price, but i had to ask for more syrup... they give a very awkward container that can make it very messy. read more

You had me at short rib loco moco, with fried rice of course! The portion is not small, I recommend sharing that and a side (corned beef hash) between 2 people. The kalua pork Benedict is also a favorites, and the coffee is great too. The place is not big and gets PACKED on weekends, so come early, don't bother showing up past 11am. There are so many people waiting outside that I felt pressured to eat quickly and get out of there. But on a weekday is easy peasy, seated right away and you can take your time with the meal. read more

Yum! Kinda pricey for breakfast/portion but worth it My bf swears the cinnamon roll pancakes are the best he ever had. Kinda gummy but had a nice sweet crunch of cinnamon throughout. And I don't cook, we eat out every meal of everyday! It's far away from home but who cares, I'll drive for good food. Came here after a hike for birthday breakfast. Ample parking. Place was clean and contemporary decor. Service was friendly and prompt. I ordered the short rib loco moco with fried rice. I don't normally order loco moco's but it was highly recommended from other yelpers and no regrets. The portion was just right. The gravy was not overpowering and was the right amount for the dish (I don't like it when it's too salty and slathered on) The short ribs were boneless and tender over the yummy fried rice. A great cup of coffee accompanied my meal (had two cups!) Friends ordered the banana chantilly pancake and corn beef with potatoes and onions. The pancakes were 'surprisingly moist and sauce was great accompaniment'. Corn beef was in chunks mixed in with potatoes and onions. Prices were reasonable and because it was my birthday, I was given a white chocolate pineapple scone to go. I would definitely make the trip again to the east side for this restaurant. read more

Delicious Kayla Benedict. It's pretty much the only food I've had, but I've sampled their French toast and hash which are also excellent. Coffee is expensive and only one free refill but it's more than a basic drip coffee so it's somewhat understandable. Always busy on weekend mornings, but if you're they're before ~9-9:30 the wait isn't too bad. read more
