    Monk Momo's food truck

Ok I keep coming back cause these fat dumplings are so yummy!!! It's is seriously a party explosion in your mouth!! The staff is very helpful and nice. It's a food truck off of McNeil Blvd... I prefer the steamed chicken momos... it's so good you don't need any sauce!! Try it out but be aware there are open limited hours!! It's worth the wait!!!

Wow. Did I just have the best momo I've ever had in my life? I think so. I'm obsessed with trying dumplings from around the world and I've been to quite a few momo places in different states, but I've never been wowed by any of them. I ordered the Jhol Momo through Uber Eats because I wasn't able to go to the food truck directly. The Jhol Momo was so so so good. It was spicy and tangy but not too tangy, they have the perfect flavor. I ate the whole plate in one sitting and I wish I could have it again today. If you're craving authentic Momo or want to try Nepali cuisine, then definitely come here!

The food was overly flavorful. I tried the pan seared momo and the creamy tomato broth momo. I liked the one's in the broth better and I wouldn't use a sauce on top next time. There is so much flavor in these and it is just not for me. The service was friendly though and the ambience is nice, outdoors, plenty of seating.

A no frills food truck that serves four momo options: steamed, fried, chilli and Jhol (which I believe has a chutney sauce) We ordered steamed and fried momos, both were quite tasty. The meat filling was packed with spices like cumin and turmeric. The wrapping was nicely thin with the sauces options - the red one was very spicy. Giving four stars because they were good not great. Each order takes about 7-10 minutes to come out even when there is no line. There are a few benches around if you want to eat there.

There needs to be more Nepali food in Austin but I'm glad there's Monk's! When we came, Monks was definitely the busiest food truck in the park and for good reason. There's a super simple menu with only 4 options, all variations of momos. We got the Jhol momo which comes in a tomato & sesame based soup. It was delicious! The momo was perfectly chewy and the soup flavorful. Only cons is it's a terrible area to look for parking -- took us 20 minutes. While parking is demotivating to come regularly, I'll definitely be back!

Best momo place in Austin! Been here several times. Service is good. Like the ambiance in downtown with other food trucks.

Cute little truck specializing in Nepalese/Tibetan food

4.5 stars While planning for the Austin trip, I asked my good friend to let me know of any places she wanted to check out. Monk's Momo was on her list because she wanted to try Himalayan/Nepalese/Tibetan food. Since they only open in the evenings for dinner and late night snacks, we decided to stop by after a show on Friday night. Big plus that this was only a couple blocks from the hotel we were staying at too. Apparently Monk's Momo food truck used to be on the popular Rainey Street but have since relocated to be off East 5th St between San Jacinto Blvd and Trinity St. A momo reminds me of a Chinese jiaozi or a meaty xiaolongbao, Korean mandu or even Japanese gyoza. Momos are essentially the Nepali/Tibetan version of the East Asian dumplings with Himalayan spices. You can get it steamed, fried or with one of their special sauces. They offer two types of momo: chicken or vegan. Chili Momo ($9.99) - deep fried chicken dumplings in a shallow pool of sauteed bell peppers, onions, a hot and sweet chili tomato sauce and sprinkled with cilantro. It's super flavorful as is with the tang and spices, but also comes with a different type of chili dipping sauce (which I don't think it's necessary unless you prefer the extra heat). Steamed Momo ($8.99) - steamed chicken dumplings and sprinkled with julienne carrots and chopped cilantro. This is also served with a spicy dipping sauce. I can definitely understand why these are considered such a popular street snack. Among the seven trucks, Monk's Momo was the one drawing the most visitors that night. My friend and I wanted to have momos again before we left Austin (was eyeing the Kothey Momo), but unfortunately, the timing just didn't align. If you're in downtown, consider checking out this small food truck for some delicious Nepalese/Tibetan dumplings.

I'm vegan and I was in Austin for a client's event (because my company manages marketing for midsize businesses), and I didn't have a lot of time for dinner. Pepe at Monk's Momo was super helpful, friendly, and accommodating, and helped me order the perfect vegan dinner for my hotel room. If you're not familiar with momos, they're savory Nepalese dumplings that folks across the Indian subcontinent love. They're not easy to make, and these were absolutely superb. Plus, the sauces were so well made, they took this meal to a whole other level. So grateful to the team at Monk's Momos who worked so hard for a complete stranger, topping off my experience with a heartfelt, "Welcome to Austin!"

This was located in an alley next to other food trucks. I have been wanting to try Nepalese dumplings for a while and was super excited to find this in Austin. The menu was short and sweet and we opted for C momo and steam momo. They were both excellent. The steamed ones were like Chinese dumplings with curry flavor inside and the C momo tasted like a stirfry with a burst of flavor. It was very memorable and I highly recommend it!

    Merra K.

Omg these were so good! Also best service. I ordered the steamed momos but was curious about the one with sesame and tomato base. They gave it to me on the side for free just so I could try it and can I say they were all delicious. No artificial flavours. Truly tasted authentic. I would defos go back when I'm in town again. The ambiance was relaxed and chill for a Sunday night.

Wowww, I searched high and low for this truck. I sweated, I scootered, I found it! No longer located on Rainey (as indicated by Apple Maps), Monks is now located off of 5th in another small food truck lot. The beef chili momo were fire! The peppers and onions were super fresh and the service was quick and friendly. It kinda sucked eating these bad boys in 110 degree heat, but yolo.

Everytime I'm in Austin I HAVE to have some of my favorite fried momo from Monk's. They have a small but tastefully curated menu with some of the best momo I've ever had. Don't let this food truck fool you, they're my go to over any fancy restaurant in that are. We always ask for an assortment of sauces, including chili sauce that is fireeee! Try them out ASAP for late night eats :)

    Rajiv K.

Exceptionally made momos. Affordable. Good filling. I didn't find too greasy. Perfectly warm paired with two sides: chili and mild sauces. I went back for seconds. 8 per order.

They said it would be about 20 minutes for food since they were slammed, but I appreciate knowing it was made to order, so no problems there. Tried the Kaeng Panaeng and it was good overall. Huge portion size but wasn't quite what I was expecting. Salad was pretty standard but I'm glad they kept it separate so it wouldn't wilt from the heat. As for the chicken, I was hoping by itself it would be more thai inspired/marinated/seasoned but it's effectively just chopped up chicken tenders to be dunked in the curry. The curry is flavorful, albeit a bit watery, which I wish was reduced a bit. But if curry is not your thing, my friend's Kai Zabb was very good: tangy, sweet and heat all at once, so good to really switch up bites. And while I wasn't expecting sticky rice, I can't help but say it's the first time I've had thai fried chicken without it. All in all, I think its a great new place to try out, but if you've had thai fried chicken before, just temper your expectations.

Thus, Mr. Pimento is an appropriate name for this Jamaican food truck. Plantains can be cooked when they are ripe and especially sweet.
