Welcome the new coffee shop on the block. As a coffee snob, I'm excited a new coffee shop has arrived in the Martinez area. Don't disregard this place due to the small area, because this space packs a punch. When we arrived, we were welcomed by the owner and his assistant. Their kindness was exceptional. They took the time to tell us about where the coffee beans are roasted (BTW-in Montana). We ordered a Café Latte and the special of the day Chai Tea. The Chai Tea was amazing. We could have easily finished it all, before we even reached our car. That's how good it was. As for the Café Latte, I thought it was ok at first. The assistant made our drink and I think she was still learning on the ratio of espresso and soy. The owner asked me what I thought of the latte. I told him it was weak. There was more soy, rather than espresso. He kindly made a new latte which ended up tasting great. What I love about "mom & pop" café is the customer service. When you own the shop, you have to be twice as nice...bottom line this is your life line. You can't blame anyone for your failure, except yourself. I believe they will be successful, because you can tell they love what they do. They offer pastries from Saucie's Bakery and they also make Vegan Oatmeal and Gluten Free pastries. Call ahead to make sure they have what you are looking for. The most interesting service they offer is "TEXT YOUR ORDER". Basically, text your orders to 925-293-6872, indicate what you want, your car (i.e. red Tahoe) and when you will be arriving. All you have to do is pull up to the café and someone will deliver your drink to your car. No need to get out. How cool is that!! They also have a "$2 Honor Pay" for coffee, the cups and the carafe is on a table, all you have to do is fill your cup and drop $2 in the box and go. Holy Smokes!! What an absolutely perfect addition to our town. I had this place bookmarked forever and had mentioned it to my mom several times. She had given up coffee some time back and today was going to relapse, so whats a good daughter gonna do? Well, this one took her to Mountain Grounds. Cute from the get go. The owner met us at the door and was so very friendly. I ordered the Crème Brullee because I had to, it was a deal I made with myself and did not disappoint. However next time I must try a cold drink. Mom had a latte and then walked outside for a phone call. The owner remembered exactly what she had described her perfect coffee to be (I didn't) and made it perfectly. Then after chatting for a while he offered us cinnamon toast he has been playing with, sweet and delicious. I gladly took the stamp card as I will be back. Probably very soon. Exceptional in every way!! Cheerful, friendly greeting totally brightened my morning, and I didn't even realize I was having a blah morning. Mocha came out quickly, and it was hot & wonderfully flavored. And I noticed that thay do drip coffee, which is one sign of a legit coffeehouse. The shop is kind of small, but still room for sitting at the bar-style tables with your laptop or outside. Their pastry selection was pretty much nonexistent (like 3 random items left), but I didn't exactly go in there wanting one so it had no bearing on my experience or my rating. What an endearingly, cute, friendly little place. After doing a little Yelp research for new local cafes, this adorable little place popped up, accommodated with some absolutely stellar reviews. And after viewing some pictures of their signature Creme Brulee Latte they custom make, I HAD to make the trip over to check them out. Mountain Grounds is located right off Alhambra ave, in a little, semi shopping center. I believe another coffee like shop resided here long before. The cafe is quite small. It still looks like their in the process of fixing it up, or doing some finishing touches interior wise. Or, it could just be the interior designer in me thinking that : ) They have a few seats inside along the wood bar up against the window, as well as some out door seats. I got to chat with the incredibly, personable, friendly owner. What a great guy! I don't think I have ever felt that welcomed before in a shop. He also went over the drinks and juices they make. I though, had my heart set on that creme brulee latte. So, I got the latte. It comes in small or large. I ordered the small. You can't take this drink to go, being they have to torch the drink as they do REAL creme brulee. I also got a dollar off using the Yelp check in offer. I got a little seat inside, against the window. It took a few for the drink to be made. Then the owner brought the drink to me along with the torch to do his finishing touch. It was kind of fun to watch. It looked absolutely beautiful when finished. He then suggested I wait a few minutes before drinking it, saying it almost turnes into a cookie like consistency. I then proceeded to drink it and my, was it delicately delicious. The semi sugar crust was divine. And I appreciated how the drink it self, was not overbearingly sweet. Nice, creamy and enjoyable. I also noticed they have some gourmet-like popcorn flavors such as Snicker Doodle....yum! I look forward to stopping in again sometime! read more

Just visited this place this morning & it was awesome! The guys working there are all really nice & fun to talk to. The place itself is a little small but they have room for outdoor and indoor seating which is great. The place has a modern decor and is very clean. They provide pastries from a local bakery which is like a two and one deal. They also have shakes, teas and coffee. I tried a chai latte & it was better than Starbucks! No joke! Very warm and rich tasting. For a limited time only you can get any size drink for $2 - again awesome! Their hours are also decent - early 5 am opening for coffee in the morning and also for late afternoon which is nice on winter days. Parking her is shared with a nail salon and subway - which isn't to bad. Another thing that is 5+ about this place is you can text your order in and pick it up & even take it out to your car! This is amazing when you are out on the go - drive thru without the wait! I think this place has great potential and hope it excels! My current favorite cappuccino is at Pacific Bay Coffee in Walnut Creek. Mountain Grounds has an even better espresso, but the foam is dryer. I will ask for them to tweak it next time, and it may wind up being my favorite. So currently, it is number 2 on my list, and a close number 2. I will certainly be back. read more

This little coffee shop is a bit of a drive from me, but I will try to come in every weekend. Why would I do such a thing when there are at least two Starbucks two minutes away from me? Because Mountain Grounds have great coffee - coffee that needs no sugar or cream or fancy syrups to hide its inferiority. My first order is an Americano and all I tasted was the bold deliciousness of coffee. There was no burnt bitterness at all that is the trademark of other coffees I have had heretofore. Their latte was so beautiful, even though our barista kept on apologizing that the phoenix was somewhat messed up. In the end, we decided it was an Art Deco phoenix, and it was beautiful and never affected the goodness of their superior lattes. Also, this coffee shop was the owners' (also our baristas) baby and it is hard to miss their passion and dedication to their craft. While we were lounging about, someone ordered a cup of coffee and I watched while the lady barista prepared it. It was mesmerizing and will really make you appreciate your coffee more. As they explained, during the mornings, they have a pot brewed in the morning (i.e. rush hour) and people can text in their orders ahead of time. They also try to remember their regulars' name and it just makes the small place seem cozy and inviting. I will definitely return as often as possible. I have my eye on their creme brûlée latte. Wow! What a find! The owners of this place are truly passionate about their business and providing high quality coffee. I feel like I owe them tuition for the knowledge they kicked down my way about coffee, tea, and the work it takes to produce the perfect cup. I was blown away by their creme brulee latte. This thing had me hearing birds chirping in my head and I almost busted out singing a Disney Princess classic. It was an event watching it being torched to perfection. The taste was pure, perfectly balanced and clean. The crystalized sugar on top was an extra little almost cookie-like treat. Why did I have to drink it that fast?! I also sampled a delicious passion-fruit tea that is in their queue to be sold soon. It would be amazing hot or iced. Overall, this place completely won me over. The only coffee I have had that was equally as good as this coffee was the cafe au lait I got at Alice Waters' Cafe Fanny! It's better than Pete's and Starbucks hands down and costs less too. Get the best for a lower price, support the local guys and get treated like royalty. They are so nice and care about their customers. My new favorite cafe. I found out about this place from fellow Yelpers. I ordered a soy macchiato and it was made perfectly. It was so smooth and not overly sweet. I savored every sip! I wanted to go back the next morning to get another, but it's a little out of the way from my job. Still, it was worth being a 'little late' the morning I went! I'm looking forward to going back and trying their creme bruleed lattes (I believe it's not available to go), and another one of those yummy macchiatos! Service was very friendly. What a hole in the wall! Upon arriving to this coffee shop, I couldn't help but think about how cute it was! Although it's small, there are plenty of options for outdoor seating. I went with a friend who frequents this spot, so he told me to order the creme brulee latte for my first time. The experience was so interactive because they bring the drink out to you and blow torch the top so you can watch. I thought that was pretty cool since I've never ordered anything like it before. This little coffee shop is located in a small strip mall off Alhambra Ave, in Martinez. When I visited it there was plenty of parking, but then it was a holiday when I went. :) Like I said it's small, I would not recommend it, if you're looking for a place to have coffee and hang out for awhile. There is a long tall table alongside the front window with some tall chairs and a couple of other small tables. The barista was really really nice, he was super friendly and helpful and really knowledgeable about the bags of coffee they sold. I really appreciated him sharing his knowledge with me. I ordered the Chai Latte and found it to be yummy. It had more of a spice kick to it, rather than a sweetness. It's the type I prefer. It wasn't served very hot, like you didn't have to wait to let it cool off, or remove the lid to allow it to cool down. Nor was it necessary to have it double cupped. But it could be considered a good thing. Anyhow, I would return to this little coffeehouse. read more

First time here. I got my nails done at the place next door and wanted some coffee. Kayla was the barista, and asked me what I normally order coffee shops and then made suggestions base off that. I asked her what her favorite was and to make that for me. I'm not sure what it is, but it's amazing. I think what really sealed the deal for me at this coffee shop is the barista introduced herself & shook my hand. You just don't get that friendly make you feel at home service anywhere anymore. I ordered a sweetened cappuccino today and finished it within 30 minutes. It tastes way better than the ones they make over at Starbucks. Plus, it only cost me only $3.25 ($4.25 with tip). They will charge you much more for the same amount over at Starbucks. This place is super affordable and super good. I also enjoy the outdoor seating for fresh air. They do have wi-fi but you have to ask for the password. The high school girl who made my drink was super nice so I have her a tip (I usually don't tip people for coffee). Well this is the smallest and most original coffee shop in Martinez by far. The employees are very personable and the friendliest in the area as well. The coffee takes a while for them to make because they go one cup at a time pour over style. There also known for their crème brûlée latte which I have yet to try. The coffee is good enough and upon learning that they have a text in line that has made the process much quicker so I don't have to be late for work!I wish that they had a little more indoor seating as there are only two tables that seat to a piece. Luckily in the summer they do have a few tables outside that will be more accessible as it is chilly in the mornings during the fall and winter! I finally got a chance to try Mountain Grounds for the first time Sunday. I had it on my list of places to try before the holidays. Such a great little coffee shop! Excellent service and amazing coffees. Everyone seemed to know each other there, which is a great sign. I had to try the novel item on the menu -- the creme brûlée latte. It was so good with the crust of sugar on top! I also had a breakfast sandwich special, a ham, egg and cheese sandwich on an English Muffin. They make it on a panini press or maybe a George Forman grill? Very creative to make a breakfast sandwich that way. They even cook the egg on the grill. I'm sure I will be back! read more

This is a pretty small coffee House. Very busy. You have to wait a long time to get your coffee even if there are not many people. We tried 3 different types of coffee and for my taste they are very acidic. We were there for about an hour and I saw many people parading, most of them buying some kind of iced coffee and smothies. I also saw a client who ordered online and jusy payed and tool their coffee, is good they have this service for people in a hurry. About the variety of bakery is very little (they had just a couple of Donuts and mufins and 2 pastries) I do not know if that is because was Sunday. This little place is such a gem! I've come a few times to get some work done on my computer and enjoy a morning treat. I'm always searching for the perfect almond latte, and Mountain Grounds makes it so well - super creamy and not burnt at all. If you're staying, you can have it in a mug. They also offer delicious pour-over, hot or iced, and tasty breakfast sandwiches. The staff are really friendly and kind. Last time I came here, I took out my laptop and noticed that as soon as I did, the guy working there changed the music to a chill instrumental playlist, which was more conducive to working.
