Based on all the good reviews, I wonder if I caught them on an off day. The food was very mediocre to me; not one thing had a wow factor. The pot stickers were way too salty (think too much soy sauce), the Brussel sprouts were super salty and a bit overcooked, the cheese nachos were dry and bland (good portion, though), and the ramen was returned. I was so disappointed I didn't even try dessert and I always get dessert. On the flip side, the atmosphere and service was good. The food just needs some work. read more

I had a wonderful experience! I took my aunt to dinner to reunite after months apart, and I have to preface this by saying, she is a tough food critic. She truly enjoyed everything: the food, the service, the atmosphere. Every cylinder was firing! I think this restaurant is going through a transition or something. Because nothing went right today. And the food, it is bad! I used to enjoy coming to moxies for lunch meetings. It's a great location in Plano off 121. But today, nothing we ordered came out right. And it took forever. Spicy tuna roll- rice is ALL wrong. Tuna taste horrible. JUST TERRIBLE. They need to understand what sushi means or take it off the menu. Because that's an insult to call it sushi. Salmon Cobb salad - salmon was over cooked. Dry. Rubbery. Pasta kid dish- SO greasy! And this is supposed to be for a child. chicken lettuce wrap thing- you can tell someone is not a professional chef prepared this dish. When you prepare food for a lettuce wrap the size of the bites Has to be just right in order for you to make it work. I wish I took a photo of how big each chuck the chicken bell peppers and onions!!!! It's like a child made this. Caesar salad: OK The food took forever to come out. Like 40 mins. Then they told us we didn't have the right pasta for the kids meal after waiting 30 mins. I felt so bad for my friend. We ordered something else since the spicy tuna Roll was so bad. But they forgot to place the order anyway. I guess that was the universe saving us lol I do not recommend coming here until they figure it out. Moxie's Grill & Bar is located next door to Sandman Signature Hotel with plenty of parking, however if you come during the evening, especially on the weekend, it may be a challenge to find parking. Because I was staying at the Sandman, which breakfast is not complementary, my husband and I decided to order something to go. We ended up ordering: Classic breakfast with sausage, $14 prior to tax- This breakfast comes with 3 eggs, your choice on how it is made, bacon or sausage, two pieces of toast and potatoes. My husband picked sunny side up style and sausage. I don't normally eat a large breakfast like this so the amount was perfect for the both of us to share. I really liked the potatoes and feel that they gave us a generous amount. The eggs were perfectly fried and the toast was nice and hot. I didn't have any of the sausage (it was split in half) but my husband liked it and thought it was filling. We also got a large side of ketchup and jam. ------------------------- (Tota $15.16 after tax) After we phoned in our order, my husband walked down to pick up the food. He had told me that the employees were friendly and paying was quick and easy. Overall, we had a good experience. I was so impressed by Moxie's! This place is a tad pricey but so worth it! Truly a feast for the eyes. The restaurant is attached to Sandman Signature hotel, and is definitely not your run of the mill restaurant. Their decor is absolutely fabulous. Walking into the entry of the restaurant is a bold and beautiful accent wall with greenery and moss. I'm mad about it! There is a beautiful hexagon division panel and the restaurant has all the right balances of wow balance with minimalism. The right fluorescent yellow boots coupled with the black is a lovely contrast. I love all of the LED light fixtures down the middle of the restaurant as well as over each table flanking the walls by the womdows. The bar is well appointed and has really fun tiles, lots of TVs if you are into that. It was a pretty warm day so I did not sit outside but it is cute. Even the bathrooms are masterful here. I had to take multiple photos because they were that gorgeous. And let me me not forget about that beautiful wine cooler. This place totally gets two snaps for being all out fabulous. I came a little before happy hour started and tried the potstickers, it came with a generous portion of potstickers, a really fabulous sauce with pineapple, bell peppers. I also tried the steak bites, they were served with a horseradish cream sauce, perfectly cooked and had an amazing flavor. Shun was my server, not only was she extremely friendly but was attentive and beautiful to boot. During our evacuation from Hurrican Ida, the front desk gave us vouchers to try out the bar and grill attached to the hotel. I loved the decor and vibe of this place. They have a lot of good options on the menu and also offer a discounted late night menu. The food took a bit long to come out considering they were not even at 50% capacity, but there were several staff members that came by to check on us. The nachos appetizer was HUGE and perfect for a group. Flavors were really good. I ordered the pork belly ramen. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Everything in it worked well together. Really excited to be able to update my review for Moxies. I want to give a shout out to their manager, Jasmine, who reached out immediately after I posted my last review in order to make things right. I had a strong feeling that if I came back it would be a much better experience and they did not disappoint. I made reservations, again, and my husband and I were seated in the bar area as soon as we arrived. Our server was great, offering wonderful drink and food recommendations. We ordered the brussels sprouts and dumplings for appetizer because I have to try the brussels sprouts every where I go. I wasn't particular smitten with them, but my husband and I really enjoyed the potstickers. For our main course I got the Avocado and Bacon salad with the Scottish salmon and my husband got the Blackened Mahi Mahi. We both really enjoyed our meals! Wasn't as juicy and flavorful as I wanted them to be. I usually like steaks medium to medium well, and these were well done. The calamari was good but not great. I forget the servers name but once patrons started coming in he seemed overwhelmed. I had to flag him down for the table beside me so he could get their wine. My entree was blackened shrimp tacos. I got the ramen and my husband got the steak. the ramen was good and the steak was ok but it was pretty convenient, so I decided to try dine in. I brought my 21 month old daughter as well since they have a kid's menu and noted kids under 12 get a free drink etc, so I figured it was kid friendly. it definitely was not - they didn't have a high chair, kid's utensils and the server never even offered a drink for her. additionally, her pasta was so undercooked (not al dente) and had pieces of chicken when it was a Bolognese? my daughter even said ew and didn't want to finish it. Bolognese is her favorite dish. I also have no idea why they gave us an adult sized plate of this gross pasta either. I ordered the tuna sushi stack for an appetizer which was ok. just a deconstructed sushi roll. my husband got the short rib Bolognese which had 4 tiny pieces of short rib. I ordered the blackened mahi mahi which was sooooo salty. food was so unappetizing I just wanted to go boxes and to go back to my room. the service was poor. she took our order, dropped it off, didn't check back with us but another nice server took the time to ask if we needed anything, so I guess just a hit or miss. the price is literally expensive for what you get. This restaurant is in an interesting area being attached to a hotel, but the restaurant is well decorated and is probably most ideal for some sort of business lunch/meeting as the vibe is very professional and there is a decent spread of options on the menu to accommodate different preferences. Overall as a dining experience, my experience with Moxies was very average. I enjoyed the lettuce wraps and salmon that I had for my meal, but the cocktails that I ordered (Mai Thai and old fashioned) were borderline bad, but I am not sure the bartender even used the spirits mentioned in the menu as I am pretty sure I watched her make the Mai Thai with Captain Morgan. Service was also mediocre to poor as we had our server just disappear on us for a long while until eventually someone else checked on us. Again, I think there's absolutely a place for this kind of restaurant, but as of now I won't be advocating for a quick return. 10/10 In All Realms I've been to several Moxie's but none have compared to this one! The establishment is stunning; very large, very spacious, very beautiful. You have the option of sitting in the bar area if you want to watch sports or sitting in a separate dinning area for a more intimate experience. The best part was the food and drinks. I love when restaurants can not only make accommodations for me, but also do it very well. I got the Cobb Salad but replaced the bacon with shrimp and replaced the iceberg lettuce with Kale #BOMB! We chose Moxie's for our date night, pre-movie dining, made reservations via Open Table (of course!) and when we arrived at 5:15pm on Saturday evening the bar was packed, but the restaurant was very quiet (one other couple). Our waitress Alexa D was kind, friendly, offered great suggestions, and checked on us just the right amount. I had skimmed the menu prior to our reservation simply to ensure there was something my husband would eat, but neglected to look at the prices - my mistake. To the point review - beautiful ambiance, good food, good portions, EXTREMELY overpriced! Explanation... We started with the Guacamole for Happy Hour ($8). The guacamole appeared to be one avocado with lots of yummy mix-ins (cilantro, onion, tomato, peppers, and seasoning). The salsa was not to our liking (very tomato paste-like), but the chips were tasty, and we were brought complimentary extra chips when we finished them off but still had guac left. It was spot on for $8, but non-happy hour this costs $11, overpriced IMHO. My hubby's Old Fashioned was part of Happy Hour so it was $8, about average, but non HH it's $12.50. I chose the Kale & Quinoa Salad w/chicken. The salad was $13 but the chicken was $6.50!!!!! It was one chicken breast, not the whole chicken!! Hubby's Red Thai Curry bowl was $13.50 + $6.50 with chicken = $20. The food was good and the portion decent. We liked the food, the service and the ambiance, but the vibe this place we got from Moxie's (attached to a hotel) was trendy, but super casual. Fifty percent of the place is a bar and it was packed with college football fans cheering on their teams. In our opinion the prices did not reflect the casual nature of the restaurant. Our bill was over $80 and that was during Happy Hour! We both left perplexed that our casual dining experience just cost us over $100 - it was NO not worth it. It's called "Bar and Grill" afterall. We came here for early dinner on a Sunday, it wasn't packed at all which was nice! Got our drinks going quickly, he had the Coors (only available in a can) and I got the Cucumber Cobbler cocktail. The cashew chicken lettuce wraps appetizer was a large portion, the two of us couldn't finish it! The appetizer was so filling that we ended up splitting an entree - the Southern Fried Crispy Chicken Sandwich. It came with house made fries which were delicious. The roasted carrots were so good, but the cook was inconsistent. This place has real potential and has 4 stars overall which is a part what pushed us to give it a try (on an out of town trip). We had the best absolute time at Moxie's! We celebrated my husband birthday and everything was absolutely perfect. The food was beyond delicious, the staff was super attentive and our server was so beautiful, sweet and kind. I captured a few of the pictures of our food: I highly recommend the burger!
