Amazing lunch!! I had the Chipotle Asiago Sandwich and it had a fantastic kick to it! I was pretty full after finishing half the sandwich but I ended up finishing the entire thing because it was so good I couldn't put it down lol. It's definitely worth the price! I also ordered a side of potato balls that you have to try with your order - it comes with a dipping sauce that makes the potato so tasty! There's no indoor dining due to COVID and all the employees wear a mask and gloves while enforcing social distancing. I have to try the What The Frick Fries next time! Got the habanero pesto and the bacon avocado. I preferred the habanero pesto by a long shot, but the bacon avocado was good too. The sandwiches were massive, enough to save half for another meal. Note: I warmed up the halves 2 days later (not amazing, but not bad) and the habanero slaw definitely powered up and got spicier in those two days. I've always been curious about Katsu sandwiches and have seen them on Instagram, at night markets and such but never tried them. One day while on a trip to SoCal while browsing Yelp I came across this place, the pictures and rave reviews totally convinced me to give them a try. The young man at the register was very helpful (wish I knew his name) and told me his personal recommendations as well as what the popular menu items were. Because I'm basic and was unsure if I'd like the two most popular sandwiches I decided to go with the Original (Pork Cutlet, Slaw, Katsu Sauce) then I made it a meal by adding Potato Puffs and a drink. I love that the kitchen is really open and you can see them making your food and the food is cooked to order. I made the mistake of waiting until it was too late to tell them light on the coleslaw because they are very heavy handed with it. The food was ready in a reasonable amount of time and my mouth was salivating when I saw the sandwich. They use a think egg bread I'm guessing and I like that because it really holds up to the slaw, sauce and pork cutlet. The bread was toasted on the outside yet soft on the inside and quite delicious. However the sandwich in it's entirety fell flat for me because the pork cutlet didn't seem to have much flavor at all and I think they rely on the slaw and katsu sauce for the flavor. The coleslaw just overpowered everything and I had to order a side of katsu sauce because I couldn't really taste it on the sandwich. The pork cutlet was cooked perfect and was juicy but just bland. But I will say the sandwich was huge so the portions are great and I got full off of only half the sandwich. The item that really stood out to me were the Potato Puffs which are potato croquettes, they were so good. The exterior was super crispy and crunchy and interior of the mashed potato was smooth and velvety, I dipped mine in the katsu sauce and that really gave it more flavor. It came with three potato puffs and a drink (+$3). The staff was so kind to bring it out for us already split into two plates. Even one sandwich half was more than enough for me. The million dollar idea has shipped away. Walked in 2 hours ago, and saw two new people I don't recognize. That was the first red flag knowing that it wasn't the same two korean owners. With that in mind, we ordered and got our usual stuff Habanero pesto, american breakfast, potato puffs, and we did get a salad. Let's first talked about the salad that was probably the worst salad I've had in my life. It was super bland and oily. It was like an olive oil parade spread into this salad but it had no taste at all. Also, there was a distinct taste of things coming off a refrigerator(Idk if you guys know what I'm talking about). The was probably the 2nd -3rd red flag. It was so bad that it was basically the 3rd red flag. Point is it was a very bad salad. I would say that out of everything, I would say the best are probably their potato puffs that had the least change possible. It still had most of it taste without lacking the old flavors it used to have. Moving on to the habenero pesto...although it had the pesto taste to it, I no longer taste any of the habenero taste at all. It had no kick. It mainly just had the pesto taste with the cole slaw also lacking bunch of flavors. I guess they really don't give much effort on their greens. The katsu wasn't as great as it used to be but it was still decent. I also don't think they don't toast the bread as long as before and butter the breads much at all... American breakfast: my once old love. from the outside, it almost looked the same but when you take a bite into it, it was a different thing. The overcooked egg that no longer explodes the yolk out. There were some kind of lack of flavor that I don't know what it lacked but it lacked even though there no greens involved. The bacon helped with the dish but it just wasn't my old love anymore. You have changed Mr Katsu. These days when I feel that I wasted calories, it's when I feel like I had a bad meal. Although, I was pretty full, I had deep regrets of not just getting an in-n-out burger that consist of toasted buns, chopped chilies, grill and raw onions, and a side of pickles. I was just very unsatisfied and very sad. All these are true...including that thought of the in-n-out burger. As before, I was worried that Mr Katsu would close but closing leaving a better memory in my head would be better than what I just experienced now. My husband got the OG and I got the Pesto Habanero. The portion is amazing for the price point which is a huge plus plus plus (hey leftovers!). The flavors of both sandwiches were also on point. We got the curry potato puffs, which were smaller than I thought, but still good. I would probably skip the potato puffs because the sandwich itself feels pretty heavy after a while. You really don't need anything else but the sandwich- the star of the show. I think the amount of slaw in the sandwich helps with the weight of it. I was back again recently because a friend of mine has never been. After the previous visit I had, I honestly did not want to come back, but I wanted to give this business another chance. We came in a full hour before closing, asked to eat outside on their two tables, was completely ignored and got a receipt for to-go food. Still 30 mins until closed and the two women running the place were in their car ready to go... Your potato balls are full of undercooked flour which made the gummy as hell. The pork katsu was not fresh (I saw you pull out the old one) and made it dry and slightly sour. If you have business hours and tables for people to sit at, honor them.
