I'm not sure if it's because of that particular day or not but was kind of disappointed. However, they do have a pretty good Happy Hour (food & drinks) menu if you're into that. Monday-Friday 4pm to 7pm! But for morning coffee and lunch, I will be going somewhere else. But I will go back to Mr. West from time to time because it IS such a well designed cafe and I absolutely love the decor and the interior. Mixed emotions on this one. I see potential here, but was served up a big breakfast of mediocrity. After waiting about 30 minutes standing in line outside (which apparently is customary here in Seattle with the Covid restrictions) I was finally able to order. You can call ahead for Togo orders, but I like to visit brick and mortar establishments. You order at the counter and pay. At this time, you are asked if you would like to tip or not. I wish that option was given to me after my experience because it would have been a no. I ordered, paid and luckily there was a table so I took a seat. They bring your food and drinks to the table depending on what you order. My food arrived after about 10 minutes, not bad. It looked really good, and it tasted fine, and that's where it stops. The eggs were runnier than I thought they would be, the toast was so hard I felt like a caveman ripping meat off a bone, the potatoes were bland and looked over cooked and the plate was too small to hold everything. I had to be careful nothing spilled off onto the table. No water was served, you have to get up and get it yourself. Not a fan of this because I don't want to be touching communal water. And get this, my coffee came out halfway thru my meal. I thought that was really crummy. Especially since people AFTER me were getting their coffee drinks BEFORE me. I asked the food runners a couple of times about this and they just gave me the brush off. ALSO, my coffee was served in a paper Togo cup. What a disappointment. Everyone else was getting nice coffee mugs. Maybe because I ordered a large? Maybe the restaurant should order bigger mugs! I ordered the seasonal coconut latte and it tasted nothing like coconut. Such a pleasant café to spend the weekend morning at with its relaxing ambience and tasty food! The interior is spacious, clean, pretty in its architecture and natural light, plus decorated with lots of plants. A little bird that had accidentally flew in two days ago brought smiles to the faces of many customers. The croissant had the perfect texture of a slightly flaky exterior crisp and many inner buttery layers. It paired well with the spreads. The compote I got was made from rhubarb and had a nice spice from the ginger. Fresh fruit was a mix of blueberry, orange, apple, strawberry. As for the seasonal pastry, you can't choose what you'd like. The right of the register displayed a handful of pastries comprising of cookies, brownies, scones, cake, and hand pies for roughly $3 - $5 each. Mine was the Poppy Drop that was light in flavor and well-baked to still have that fluffiness. Sold separately, the butter croissant is $2.80 and the scone is $3. So the fruit and spreads cover the remaining $4.20 of the cost. ----- Mocha (12oz): $5. I was astonished by just smooth the coffee was! It was not too sweet and flavorful. ----- A line to order at the front counter is constantly out the door. I showed up 8:30 AM on Sunday and waited for about 25 minutes. If dining in, the cashier hands you a table number holder for you to pick your own spot. Outdoor dining is available as well. With such popularity I had expected to not find a seat, but surprisingly there always seemed to be a couple of open tables. Definitely a Yes! Stop here and check them out! I actually stopped here 2x while I was in Seattle - both times for breakfast. The environment is really peaceful and relaxing. There are plants around, lots of medium wood grains and plenty of space between the tables. Its the kind of environment I am looking for when I go to a breakfast place - I want to get a start on my day, get my head together, and enjoy some tasty food.....you'll check all three boxes here. I love the UVillage location, but this one disappoints. The tables are not clean and the service is extremely slow. My sister and I came in this morning and the line ahead of us was roughly 4 groups long. It was moving fast until the person ahead of us. The woman on the cash register started helping the barista make drinks, which is understandable if it it's just a drink or two for a few minutes - but she spent over 15 minutes doing that and so no one was taking orders. The kitchen orders and drink orders are worked on by different parts of the restaurant so this stalled the kitchen a lot. The women on the cash register also pressured me to leave a tip, and I did though after that wait am not sure why. The kitchen was good once they got the order, it only took them 10 minutes. I tried a the tomato arugala toast for the first time (normally I get something else at Uvillage). It was good, but not worth the wait. I also feel the service is somewhat kinder at UVillage. I was given a bad knife. The knives have wooden handles with a metal blade, and my blade was loose. I took a picture of my order. If you look at the table corner you can see some of the food on the table I was talking about. If it is a bus your own table restaurant that's okay, but maybe the cashier should tell people as she takes their orders. read more

Ate here when I was in the area for PAX, and holy shit was it good. Eating at Mr. West was seriously a highlight of the trip. You know it's a serious cookie when it's salted with the super fancy salt that you can see with the naked human eye. We didn't eat this until we got home, but holy moly we microwaved it for 30 seconds and it became the freshest tasting cookie I've ever had. It was like molten lava cake condensed into cookie form. I've been trying to Google around to find a product listing or any more information on this mysterious cookie, with no avail. More so I ordered a tea so it should've been near burning hot instead I received my drink lukewarm which was such a bummer! I loved the plain avocado toast because it came with a curried flavor. The curry flavoring was really tasty and a great addition to the thick toast. They were out of the croissants for the breakfast sandwiches so they made me an open faced version instead. They made the toast with ham and it was so tasty with a little bit of honey drizzled on. She liked it so much, she ordered lavender honey to make the drink at home. We also loved the decor and vibe. If I lived here, I would be a frequent customer. Mr. West was outstanding. We stopped in for lunch on a weekend afternoon. The place is gorgeous inside, with plants everywhere and a modern décor that is spot on. The menu is phenomenal, with so many things to try and a lot of vegetarian options. We ordered the Mediterranean street fries, summer squash and orzo salad, and green pea hummus with side pita and crudité. The food was ready quickly and there were numerous free tables in the dining area (its counter order). All the food was outstanding. Portion sizes were hearty and prices were reasonable too. Where do I even begin with this place? This place is literally brunch heaven! They have the best avocado toast that you can customize and add different things like bacon or a boiled egg. The toast are huge and super filling. I also ordered a small cappuccino which was delicious and a cinnamon bun which was one of the best cinnamon buns I had ever had. The customer service is really good: you order the counter but they bring it to you at your table. I have already gone twice and the experience was the same both times it was delightful and delicious. Another aspect of this restaurant I really liked was the ambience and decoration. I do love coming to Mr. West for brunch and their coffee, but they have made some recent changes that I am personally not a huge fan of, but some may like the changes. It used to have a more resturant vibe where you were seated, you ordered your food, paid the bill and were waited on. Now they do counter service, order first, pay your bill, find a table then your food gets brought out. Someone did bring us water, but he seemed quite annoyed and when I asked what happened to their waffle bar he seemed even more annoyed. Came here on a Saturday afternoon and the line was a little long and very slow--it took about 15-20 minutes to get food and some drinks. I got the Turkish eggs and my friend got the shakshuka, which she described as "okay to good". I thought the Turkish eggs were quite good--just a little bit of spice with creamy, flavorful yogurt and fresh dill. The yogurt was cold, which I guess I should have expected, but the eggs were a little cold too maybe as a result. Avocado toast : it wasn't as good as I remember it to be, but still enjoyable and filling nonetheless. I got it on sourdough, which is the way to go plus an egg! The bride-to-be got hers on the grain toast, which tasted cinnamony and very strange to everyone who tried it since that flavor does not go well with avocado and mustard seed... She politely asked the waiter if perhaps the toast was actually a breakfast bread vs the grain one, but he was adamant that it wasn't and just walked away. Eventually, we asked someone else if they could switch out the toast for a sourdough bread and it was much better for her. Now I did feel bad and odd having to ask at least 2x about the coffee and toast, but for some reason it was an off afternoon and things just didn't taste right ...This was exacerbated by the fact that our waiter was in a foul mood from the get - go, even before my coffee and her toast situation, but in the end, the company was still enjoyable and it made for a good bonding experience to start the day. read more

I had family visiting Seattle who stayed at a near-by hotel. We went to Mr. West to grab brunch and I loved every bit of our visit! During our visit we ordered the House-cured Wild Salmon Toast, the egg and cheese croissant, the continental breakfast, chia pudding, lavender sugar cookie, and the maple bacon scone. You can't go wrong with any of these options, and there are tons of other food, pastry, coffee, and alcohol options to choose from. Before visiting, I always thought that Mr. West was a fancy sit-down restaurant. But after visiting, I quickly learned that Mr. West is a great place for brunch, grabbing a quick coffee, or even some drinks! There is also outdoor seating available if you're more comfortable with fresh air. I can't end this review without talking about how much I love the vibes in Mr. West! There was a small line before ordering, but I honestly didn't mind standing in line because of all of the plants, the good music, and the small items for sale. I wish Mr. West had a location over by the Eastside so I could visit more often. If you find yourself in the Downtown Seattle area (or even University Village), I definitely recommend a visit to Mr. West. read more

This is exactly how I've been trying to decorate my new place. I love my slow mornings when I get to take things slow and sit down for breakfast. If you are a planner like me (and many other millennials if social media is to be believed), you probably look carefully at a restaurant's website before going. Especially if you're vegetarian and a picky eater. I considered ordering ahead since I was short on time, so I looked at their menu via their online ordering system. I ended up ordering in person, and the print/PDF menu is totally different than what they have for online ordering. It shouldn't be hard to sync these up, and if you order online (spoiler: or if you order in person), don't expect to get what you ordered. I still ordered what I planned to--the garden veggie sandwich, no tomatoes. What I got was different from both the online ordering and print menus. The first ingredient (avocado) was missing. There were pickled onions not mentioned on either. The eggplant and pepper mentioned on the print menu was some sort of sauce that made the bottom half of the sandwich a soggy mess (the pickle spear that was placed underneath the sandwich in the to-go box didn't help). I ate about a third of it, mostly bread, cucumber, and sprouts. Definitely not worth $15. The root beer cream, which was on the online ordering system, was not on the print menu and confused the two cashiers until the barista showed them the button (it cost $6, but trying to enter it manually, they were about to charge me $9). It was tasty, as was the tahini blondie. After tax and tip, it was $34 for lunch. I'd only return for the drinks and order off the print menu. read more
