Beware of Bait and Switch! My husband and I decided to purchase a Subaru Forester 2.5i Premium with Eyesight, and after test driving the Forester at one dealership and getting a price quote, we decided to compare prices at dealerships in our area. After going online to Muller Subaru and seeing a car coming in soon that met our specifications, I requested a price quote. I received a call on my cell from a gentleman named Elliot and he emailed me a quote which turned out to be for the wrong car - a different model altogether. He realized his mistake and then emailed me the internet price for the Forester. Once I got off my cell and saw the second email I was impressed with the price but was unclear about whether the price included Eyesight, (a set of safety features) which was already installed on this vehicle. I left him a voce mail message and he got back to me this morning. When Elliot called, he said that yes, the quoted price did include the Eyesight. I was waiting for quotes from other dealerships and said that I was very serious about putting a deposit on this exact car. But I wanted to compare all the quotes before I made my final decision. Shortly after that he called back to say that actually the quoted price in the email did NOT include Eyesight and then he verbally quoted me a new price which was over $400 more. At that point I was getting a little concerned about the price change and so was my husband who requested that maybe Elliot could include some floor mats or something to make up for the fact that he changed the price on us. He said he would check on that and I requested that he please send all this new info in an email. Here's where it really felt like bait and switch. Elliot then sent me an email with a new price that was $1,800 MORE than the original price and $1,400 more than the price he had JUST quoted me verbally! I sent an email to Elliot and copied the Sales Manager Karl. Elliot called me back and just kept making it worse saying that the original quote was for a base model car. I reminded him that I had never requested pricing on a base model but had only been interested in one specific white car that was due to arrive in a matter of days. He then said that car had a special package so that's why the price went up, and that the package could not be removed. So, the car had that package when I talked to him about it prior to this, yet he still quoted me lower prices twice even though he knew what features were on the car. By the way, those features are not mentioned online. And it was the first time he revealed that the specific car I wanted had this special package that made the price go way up. The Sales Manager Karl (and then later, Karl's boss) also called me. They apologized and said the third price was the right price and I could buy the car at that price if I wanted to. Now that I had the "real" price, it was the highest of all the other dealers I had received quotes for on the same make and model. Frankly, their apologies mean nothing to me since by this point I have no trust in their dealership and feel compelled to warn others of how I was treated at Muller. To me, this experience represents everything bad about buying a car. What seem like "mistakes" are probably just tactics to keep raising the price on customers who simply want to buy a car. I realize everyone's experience is different and I do also realize that people make honest mistakes. However, it is difficult to look at three different "incorrect" quotes (one for a completely different less expensive vehicle) and give a dealership the benefit of the doubt. I don't want anyone else to waste their time going through a roller coaster of price changes when there are other dealers who treat their customers more respectfully and dare I say, honestly, than Muller. read more

Bought a Warranty from Nothshore Highland Park, IL Subaru in 2009. They wrote up a contract that gave us cash back after 4 years if we didn't use the Warranty. 4 Years later we call to get our cash back....Muller bought out North Shore in 2011. Muller will not honor the warranty contract. Don't purchase a warranty from this dealer. Very disappointing. read more

Best experience I could hope for here! The staff was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. They solved every issue I could throw at them and never got upset. They walked me through each step of the process and didn't push any extras that I did not want. If you are buying a Subaru, Nissan, or VW this is the place for you! **Update** I also ordered some accessories when I purchased my new car and getting them installed was as bad as buying the car was good. The salesman never called me to set up an appointment like he said he would. I brought my car in and the service person did not bother to tell me they needed both keys for the remote starter. When they called the next day I was told I could just bring the other key when I came to pick the car up and it would take 10 minutes to program. I went there on my lunch break and waited for over 30 minutes before I realized that one of the accessories they ordered was wrong. They were able to locate the correct item but I had to leave and make another trip back. When I picked the car up they gave me the keys and said sorry, that was it. No one ever called to apologize or ask if there was something they could do to make it better. There seems to be communication issues here so I would suggest not ordering accessories from them unless they are added before delivery. I am very disappointed with this experience. read more

I had a bad experience at mid city Subaru on Irving Park, so I drove from the city to Highland Park in hopes of a better experience. I was greeted right away by Ben who was very friendly, not pushy and incredibly helpful. He made my somewhat complicated process of buying a car a total breeze. It was a world of a difference from what I experienced at mid city. Karl was also on point when it came to the financing side of things. He kept me informed during the entire process. The whole process took about a week for everything to go through, due to my compacted circumstances, but they were constantly in touch. This is the second car we've bought from Muller Subaru, both from Thomas Donahue who gets us a great, fair price and we trust him. We do a lot of research and compare Mullers prices to other dealers, and we get the best prices here. Plus there are no games to get you in the door. Thomas is upfront and honest, even finding us discounts/rebates AFTER we agreed on a price. The final processing can be a bit painful bc we don't want the extended warranty and they push us pretty hard on that. But Thomas isn't involved in that process. We will definitely come back to Thomas when we are ready for our third Subaru. read more

I wanted an Outback 2.5i Limited with package 23 in red. I had already secured financing with my credit union. I contacted several Subaru dealers in Chicago, Wisconsin, and Indiana to find the best price. All the dealerships were within a few hundred dollars of each other, but the ones with the color I wanted were far away. There were only 4 red ones in a several hundred mile radius. I asked several of the dealerships close to me if they would get the color I wanted immediately, and only Muller was willing to do so. My husband and I visited Ben at Muller on a Wednesday to drive a car in the same spec as the one I wanted. He was extremely knowledgeable and unhurried with us. Eyesight is an extremely advanced technology and he took the time to make sure we experienced how it worked in real world situations. Subaru financing through Chase was able to get an apr 2% better than my credit union, which was a big pleasant surprise to me. We left Wednesday after putting down a good faith deposit and the handshake promise that Ben would secure an Outback 2.5i LImited with Package 23 in Venetian Red Pearl for us to pick up the next day. Thursday afternoon we showed up to a smiling Ben with the good news that our car was ready. We signed all the papers, Ben spent another few hours with us explaining the infotainment system and other aspects of the Outback, and we drove our new car home. This is only the second new car I've purchased, but it was such a friendly and comfortable transaction that it really stood apart from my previous car buying experience. I believe that any car shopper that is calling dealerships for quotes needs to be very specific, down to the VIN. To eliminate any confusion, I noted the VIN of each of the Outbacks that I was interested in. If you know exactly what you want, you would do well to be specific down to the VIN when asking for a quote, that way there is no chance of miscommunication. (VIN is like a social security number for cars - no two are alike. It stand for Vehicles Identification Number) p.s. - the Outback is truly awesome. read more

I've always been skeptical of Muller dealerships because their ads promise only that "You won't be disappointed." (In case you don't know, that's the tag at the end of all Muller dealership commercials.) Who wants to be just "not disappointed" with their purchase - especially one as significant as a car? I don't know about you, but I want to BE satisfied. And I'm not! Muller Subaru and Muller Volkswagen appear to be separate businesses on opposite sides of the lot, but they are as connected as Siamese twins conjoined at the neck with one head. That's not a big deal, but you might like to know it. I narrowed down my search for a used car to a few possible Volkswagen models and a specific Subaru that was listed on-line. According to Car Gurus, it was listed over six weeks ago. Within a few minutes of arriving, I got the impression that their top, overwhelming priority is new car sales, and used cars barely even rate. A quick rough count of about 45 used cars and around 300 new ones reinforced that impression. I walked around for over an hour, virtually ignored by everyone else. One employee held a door for me as I entered the Volkswagen building at the same time as him and another waited inside for me before he exited. The one who held the door asked how I was doin', in that standard, formal tone - the one that's polite but really not interested in talkin' with ya'. Another seemed to growl "excuse me" as he passed, apparently going back outside to a customer with whom he was working. By looking at some new car models, I ruled out two Volkswagen models that I was considering, and lowered my prioritization of the third. I also confirmed my thoughts about some Subaru models. I couldn't find the one that I came to see, so I went in the Subaru building. The receptionist greeted me, but then decided it was more important to answer the phone than talk with me approaching her desk. I walked around a couple cars in the showroom and was about to go to some people at the other end of the building when I saw an employee sitting at a desk and watching me. He greeted me, but did not get up. I walked over and told him the year and model of the car in which I was interested, and he invited me to sit down. He checked his computer and said they didn't have one of those. I said I had just seen it on-line; he asked how many days ago; and I told him hours. I offered the VIN and he said he needed the stock number. Fortunately, I had it, too. He entered that on his computer; called someone; then said it was a new arrival and not ready to be shown. He didn't offer to show me anything else - I had to ask if he had anything comparable. Even after I told him the particular type of car I wanted and why, he continued to suggest ones that didn't match my criteria or were above my price range. Finally, he asked me to wait a minute and he walked over to the Volkswagen building. When he came back almost ten minutes later, he told me that the car had been sent out to be detailed. He never offered to call me when it came back. Now that I think about it, he asked how I determined my price, and I told him it was what I could afford in cash. His already minimal interest seemed to diminish even more, and I was surprised he didn't start trying to qualify me for financing. I never bothered to confront him about the inconsistency between the car having been listed on-line for over six weeks; versus him saying that it was new and just sent out to be detailed. It's not his fault if someone lied to him, but I have to wonder about how management treats their employees if he can't even see on his computer when they received the vehicle, and if they did lie to him about the status. And what does that say about how they treat their customers? And if it really was just sent for detailing, why did it take 'em over six weeks to do so? Perhaps I was treated this way because I was wearing blue jeans, nice ones - not faded, a polo shirt, and sneakers; and have long hair and a beard. I wonder if they would have treated me differently if they had noticed the $50,000 SUV in which I drove up. I will NOT check back to see when the car comes back from detailing, nor will I bother with following any other cars at ANY Muller dealership... I doubt that I'll find any rare gems of a deal that'll make me wanna' make an exception. They've lost their credibility with me, and in this case, it isn't just this dealership, but the entire Muller "family" of dealerships. read more

I went to their dealership looking for a car, hadn't used credit in a while so my credit score was basically nonexistent, and there were a few other issues, but they flat out told me I need a cosigner or no car, just like that. So I went to another dealership, presented my situation to them, they went to work on the situation and got me a new car, on terms I could live with.. So my question to mr Muller was, why wasn't your dealership able to help me with the problem when another was, a smaller dealership. Having made an appointment I dropped my car for service at 7am. I needed to Change oil and to check one of my power window because it was not working properly. They are charging me $138.00 to look at it plus the cost of change oil. I'm ok with that and told them I need an estimate before they worked on the power windows. At 10.30 am I called as I did not hear any update. The person who answered said they are still checking it and they will call me back shortly. At 3:30pm I called back again and was told they will check and call back. After a few minutes I got the call and was told that the motor of power window need to be replaced and it will cost me $800+ dollars plus the $138 fee to look. I really don't think you need more than 8 hours to diagnose a broken motor. In addition, the parts were not available they have to order it. I decline the service and asked if my car is ready? Oops they have not done the change oil. It will be ready by the end of the day. Finally got a call at 6:00pm and car is ready! What service! 11 hours to change oil and to look at broken power window motor. I will never go back! I will Prefer to drive further to another subaru dealer and get efficient service. read more

This dealer , who took over the dealership from North Shore Subaru, would not honor the warranty that we bought 4 years ago. If you bought a cash-back warranty, they will not honor the contract. Very sad as we never would have bought a warranty without the cash-back incentive. We paid extra for it and thought we were playing by the rules but it was apparently a scam. I bought a car here last year certified pre-owned with a clean carfax (figured go to a reputable dealership) I went to trade it in at another Subaru dealership closer to my house since I moved and to my suprise they said they didn't want my car!!! Confused, as you'd imagine I asked why and the sales manager stated he pulled the CARFAX and it states my car has a bad CARFAX with STRUCTURAL DAMAGE. Frustrated I called Muller Subaru and thry said that there CARFAX report doesn't show that but after looking into it they found the updated CARFAX report, I bought the car at full retail had I known the CARFAX was bad I Would've never bought the car in the first place right?!?!?! So they are willing to buy the car back from me but not at full price because they will have to "AUCTION" the car becuase it has a bad CARFAX!!!! How's this my problem you ask??? Jeff Spivak in sales is AMAZING! My Subaru lease was ending, and I had visited two dealerships already and was feeling really discouraged by re-leasing and what to do about it. I checked out the inventory at this dealership and found a car that I really liked and wanted to see, and from the moment I met Jeff to begin the process of considering the car I liked (and then decided to lease) Jeff was nothing but amazing and kind the whole time.
