Was recommended by family to try out this place. I want to say that it is very modest on the outside as it sits in the corner of a Ralph's and CVS complex, but there is more that meets the eye. Its very trendy and "loungey" as you get inside, reminding me of Lisa Vanderpumps style from Housewives! :) We walked in without reservation around 630 pm on a Friday night, and they only had tables outside, but there were lots of heaters available. We asked to switch tables so we can watch basketball, and they were accommodating. We ordered the calamari per Yelp, and I understand why it's featured as one of their top foods. I like how it was paired with banana peppers, which gave it a good accent. It was light, meaty, and nicely seasoned. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich, which was delicious as well. It was a good size and I definitely prefer the sweet potato waffle fries over the regular fries. Each bite of the waffle fries were crispy w just enough salt. Mutts is always a fun place to bring a group from out of town. The open air seating, funky vibrant vibe, and lots of fun food options. The portions are absolutely huge and their fries are the best. I enjoyed the fish and chips which like everything else, was so very big. The fish was great and the side of coleslaw helped balance out the fried food with some fresh crisp. MariAne was our waitress and she was AMAZING! She made me feel comfortable, she was so friendly and quick to point out the newly released Spring cocktail drinks. I had the Mutt's Special and had forgotten to ask without Mayo, when I let her know she was so nice about it and had no problem getting me a new burger (without mayo). That was awesome! Very charming restaurant with a great atmosphere, nice music, can you turn my music off please amazing restrooms, and most importantly - delicious food. We had the fun buns to start, which are like French toast bites. I had a breakfast sandwich (sub fruit) and my hubby had pulled pork Benedict. Like to stop by after flag football and have a drink with some teammates. This last visit caught me off guard when I got my bill. Apparently then menu prices had changed and what I ordered was $6 more than the menu I ordered from. When I brought it up it, they just said yea the menu prices changed. Please update your menus because $6 is a significant change for a sandwich or at least let the patrons know the prices are not accurate. Definitely feel like I was just robbed. Server was nice too, just tripped over the finish line and didn't try to resolve the advertised price. read more

Came to Mutts with some co-workers for lunch on a Friday and the place wasn't too crowded. For a party of five, we were sat right away. Our serve introduced herself right away and we were able to put in our drink and food order. Drinks and food came out quickly and our server was attentive during our time. I decided on a Caesar salad with grilled chicken and sweet potato fries. The chicken was grilled to perfection, but the salad had too much dressing for my liking. I should have asked for light dressing. Sweet potato's we're crunchy and yummy! We ruined else seemed to enjoy their meal. Mutts definitely has a very laid back vibe to it. Hats off to the team at Mutt's. Starting with Lara who for the 2nd year in a row helped coordinate our post row holiday celebration. She helped curate a smaller menu of choices that perfectly satisfied 30 plus hungry rowers and personalized our menus. The team was very accommodating in letting us arrive an hour early after our annual row to the last house was fogged out. Our server Christian assisted by my personal favorite Abigail did a great job juggling all the food and drink orders! Looks like we have found the perfect place for our annual holiday gathering. We had the best customer service visiting mutts and the best dining experience. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I have five little ones two toddlers and an infant so I don't always get the warmest welcome at restaurants, but the accommodations and spacious tables along with the coloring pages and server interactions were just sooo convenient to help my husband and I have an enjoyable meal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Garret the bartender was so interactive while passing by with our kiddos made them laugh, the managers Abigail and Daniel were phenomenal at interacting with all of us as well. I wanted to share a negative experience I just had at Mutts in Eastbluff. I went in late about 9:15 for food and a drink. I asked for both the full and happy hour menu and was told there was only the happy hour menu and that the kitchen was closing in 15 minutes (9:30). I was surprised because the last time I was in, which was probably a year ago, they were open until midnight even during the week and served from both menus until 11 p. The only time I came in was after 9 pm because of work and travel schedules. I mentioned that it had been different before. The bartender flopped the happy hour menu in front of me pointing out that it said 9 pm to last call. I asked how someone was suppose to know when last call was going to be and he told me I was being rude and he didn't need to serve me. I kind of mumble that the hours were inconsistent and he leaned over the bar in my face telling me I was rude and he didn't need to serve me. I got up and left. The reason I stopped going late at night was because the bartenders let the men in there drink too much. One night the bartender kept serving someone who was clearly drunk. [[HIGHLIGHT]]He kept dropping the F bomb and I said that it wasn't appropriate because he was in a family restaurant. He then called me a c...t.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I told the bartender that if he called me that again I was calling the police. Later he asked me "what do you expect if you come in here after 9 pm?" What I expect is to not be subjected to abusive or rude behavior by male customers or the bartenders. I will be calling the manager. Oh by the way, their website says the kitchen is open until 10 pm not 9:30. read more

Overwhelming scent of Fabuloso is a stomach turner Wow has this place gone DOWN. But the prices have gone UP! We've lived in eastbluff for a decade and used to love this place for great food, drinks and patriotic ambiance. But the last year it has really become ... not so good. We first started noticing the cleaning odor about a year ago , but it would dissipate once inside the restaurant. Not this time. We smelled it the entire meal. Strike one. Then onto the food. We love the Joe Dirt Pizza, and crave the chicken frisco sandwich, for the thick yummy juicy grilled chicken breast, the crispy bacon, avocado and fluffy crisp sourdough bread. Stroke Two. The "chicken breast" on my sandwich was a piece of totally flat possibly lab grown chicken.. since when is a chicken breast pink?? It looks like ham. The whole sandwich was flattened like a pancake and looked like it was run over by a Mac truck. I've had better food at Jack in the Box! The fries were hard and dry, and the lettuce was shriveled. Then the ambiance- they had the music so loud we were yelling. It was ridiculous. The juke box is one of our favorite things about Mutts, but strike three. So sad to say, We won't be rushing back, if we ever go back. read more

For some reason, the manager and staff do not like kids at this restaurant. We went there twice this weekend, both times with groups of families from our kids' school (which is right around the corner from the restaurant). Both times we sat on the patio, which was relatively empty, and both times the manager stared our group down and had the waitress try to shoo us out early. The kids were acting like kids - not destructive or disruptive to any other customers. This is unbelievably short-sighted. Our groups collectively spent well over $1200 in one weekend. Why would you disincentive potential repeat customers who might patronize the place for another 8 to 10 years is besides me. It's unfortunate. read more

We live close by and Mutts is a weekly dinner for us. Marianna has served us multiple times. She always remembers who we are and the things we enjoy. She knows that we typically put in to go orders for our teen boys and comes back to check in once our food has arrived. Most importantly, they've charged me for other people's orders, haven't placed my call-in orders, and take 10mins to figure out a $100 bill (which was used bc their charges suspended my card); also, "refused" to make a non-diablo spicy guacamole. This used to be my spot, now it's a dumpster-fire. The great bar service, nice cocktails, EuroTrash pizza, and indoor/outdoor vibe is the reason for a 3 star. Farewell, Mutts Eastbluff. Well...lets start with the always welcoming receptionist, ice cold mugs, great food at a reasonable price, and a fun relaxing atmosphere. As a resident who lives out of Orange County I go out of my way to go to mutts. Especially when Makena the bartender is working there. Her drinks she makes....delicious, her customer service.... Impeccable, her personality.... The best ever. The prickly pear martini and euro trash pizza are my go to order every time I make my way down there it's delicious. But you really can't go wrong with ordering anything from the menu. Next time you are in the area be sure to make and stop and if you're lucky enough you will have makena as your bartender. read more

Absolutely love the vibe, food, and energy of Mutts! Madeline welcomed me with a smile and offered me outside or inside seating, both have such warm ambience! I sat outside where they had really powerful heaters, perfect for the winter! Marianne was our server and she was extremely sweet, she made sure to show me their wine Wednesday and late night happy hour deals (amazing btw you guys have to catch on). Their rosemary fries were so flavorful and their cheese balls were a classic treat! Their wine collection is full of classics from Napa and Paso which I really enjoyed (would recommend the Angeline Pinot Noir). All in all, 10/10 would recommend! This was my first time here and I was not disappointed at all. The food was so delicious! I got the cheeseburger sliders . The service was so amazing, I've never had better service at any other place and that's all thanks to Eri! I love the vibe here! The drinks are so unique and delicious, not what I would expect at a more sports type of bar. I usually go on a Saturday night or Sunday and Zack and Garrett are the best bartenders. They're always so attentive and I always just order whatever they suggest. It never misses. This is one of my go to spots now. read more

The sauce had a wonderful, creamy texture--it just lacked flavor. I think it could have benefited from something cheesy, tangy, peppery, or simply a little more seasoning. Even with that, I'm still giving this place five stars because the service was outstanding. They genuinely listened to my feedback about the meal and went above and beyond to make things right, which says a lot about how much they care about their customers. This was my first visit, and I definitely plan on coming back to try one of their signature dishes. I highly recommend this restaurant overall. Everybody from the staff and the customers who welcomed me,as a first time patron, during what I did not know was trivia night; moreover, turned out to be a great group of people. The food was excellent the service spot on. The feel and look of the room was welcoming, and extremely comfortable; especially if one wanted to watch the sports they were interested in. They did have all the games going for that evening, but they also had tennis which for me I have two favorites, soccer and tennis- so if anyone can find soccer through the channels that you have already programmed, I promise you'll have a lot more of the adult league in their watching soccer. The neighborhood is filled with coaches and teams because of Bison Park. You might do yourself a favor- if you do start programming soccer and put a little quarter sheet paper on people's windshield letting them know that your restaurant is not a dog grooming service. Please let them know the sports that you have going, because so many of us are looking to see our favorite teams playing and not always at home because it always seems to be a better tournament when there's others involved watching the game. Without a doubt between Friday night games and the adult league at Bison Park, there are so many families that could easily order food to go if they knew that you were literally across the street in the Eastbluff shopping center. Maybe it's odd advertising, however, because you allow dogs there is so many of us that use Eastbluff shopping center almost every day, but we've also watched dogs walking into the restaurant, which is great and hats off to you because there should be no reason not to be able to bring I would expect a well-behaved dog . And there's where the confusion started for some of us thinking it was a dog grooming. Definitely let the Bison Park soccer leagues with either a small discreet note on their car and maybe a free drink or dessert for the first time. Watch how busy it gets soccer players and their families that don't get off that field on Friday night until 9 o'clock and everything is closed near here to get something to eat except you're open until midnight. If people know they can order food to go, and still be on their way home after hours in what will be colder weather on that field. I guarantee you you will have a whole new group of patrons as well as those who will come back and watch soccer on your incredible TV screens. We don't have to drive to a sports bar, a British bar in Santa Ana. The ambience that you set up makes it so easy to be that neighborhood spot to go watch a game. Where do you go to watch the big matches and there are Muldoons or British bars there's a few places in and around Newport Beach Santa Ana. But you are sitting in soccer Central with Bison Park across the way. I'm telling you most people don't know what Mutts exactly is. I watch families go in there every weekend for lunch and brunch. I'm just lucky one who found the restaurant during trivia night when the doors were open and the laughter was infectious. Of course I had to walk in and I keep walking in thanks to the staff, patrons, and hats off to the chef and anybody else on the line cooking. Went here for fourth of July this past weekend and the guy managing the line was extremely RUDE & RACIST. He was a white skinny male - maybe look at who you're hiring to manage the line. We got in line and we are already halfway through. Bunch of people behind us. Im just talking to my friends and BF waiting to get in when this guy comes up and tells my bf that he "left the line, came back & is now not allowed in" mind u, me & my group were there the ENTIRE time. & funny we were the only asians in line at the time & my bf is half hispanic. AND whats even more funny? The girl group behind us all spoke up and told that racist male that we've been here this whole time. We dont even know them and they stood up for us. We left the line to not cause problems but i went back to say my piece bc i wasn't gonna let my bf get disrespected like that & that racist white man had nothin to say because he knows he's in the wrong lmao. Funny they had an incident last year on the fourth too where they were being racist & calling people beaners. Maybe double check who you're hiring to manage the line. They are extremely well traveled and have been to the finest restaurants around the world and they absolutely loved it. They're not easy to impress. I'm talking about the Costa Mesa location, the outside patio is awesome and inside is some combo of retro plus old Newport plus new Newport plus old and new Costa Mesa. It's cool and thought out. Service was well on point. The food, though, was incredible. I had the three different enchilada combo that was out of this world, and my wife had some healthy protein bowl that was so light and so flavorful, it was just incredible.

If you didn't know, they now offer a full breakfast menu on weekends, and they've been adding fun seasonal and holiday-themed events. It's an interesting block with Olive Oil and Beyond where you can taste the most amazing olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Almost a little Italy with Balsilic across the street and Ciao across the street. It's a real challenge to operate a restaurant when it's not packed every night. What do you do about spoilage - how many times to you throw out the meat, and seafood, and vegetables you don't use and how long can you keep them and not affect the taste? My read on the food is that it was not fresh...we have veal piccata and it was well-prepared but didn't taste very fresh, and prawns with pasta on the side...the garlic bread was soft (a choice) but not crispy but soft and somewhat mushy. The prawns were no fresh and had a strange texture. The service was excellent...we don't know his name but he was very kind and helpful. He knew how to service tables and was very skillful. We never saw the chef. We love the ambiance ... a very quiet and old world kind of place...tables and chairs...just an excellent venue with excellent service. it felt very comfortable and dampened noise from the street quite well. Now how to solve the problem? This place needs to be full every night. They need to be purchasing new product every morning. It's almost worth anything to fill the restaurant...off specials and coupons, make it almost impossible not to come. The more people come the more word of mouth. This place can't survive on hope. The chef needs to purchase the absolute best food product and then use it everyday. Otherwise the experience will not be sufficient to bring us back. Things need to change. We spent $112 with tip for a dinner for two. A glass of wine was $16 and a plate of garlic bread was $9. The check says the name is "Trattoria Mediterranean Cuisine".

I told my man we don't need to order anymore because we had plenty. Just make sure when ordering you have them read it back not to miss anything. The clam chowder was good, could've had more clam but came out piping hot, which I know is an issue sometimes at places like this. My son got the tuna melt and couldn't finish his potato chips. Wish they had coke on the menu instead of Pepsi, that's my only qualm but other than that next time I'd definitely order the lobster roll.

I also had the chance to meet the owner, Victoria, and hear a bit about her vision for the space, which made me appreciate it even more. The ambiance is lovely, with an English garden feel that makes you want to linger. The latte was excellent, and the baked goods were just as good. Also, my son loved the breakfast burrito and the tuna melt really was great. Definitely a new go-to for me!
